Just saw it on Amazon. I'm thinking I might!

Yup ordered a 16GB gold model from newegg. Hope it doesn't suck

The only thing that might suck could be development. But maybe the aggressive price point will rope more devs in.

I work for Huawei USA, and I have done everything I can to support custom development on Huawei handsets. We send out devices to community maintainers, and Huawei provides the kernel source and bootloader unlock codes. Ultimately, it comes down to the popularity of the device. Based on all the positive coverage from CES, I think the honor 5X is going to do well. Honor can also get users attention by continuing to deliver regular software updates, and keep improving the user experience.

Already one dev waiting to be told he can. And he already has the device.

I ordered one for me and one for my wife. i think she will like it if the camera is decent. I really hope that development takes off for this device though.

Just ordered mine, hopefully there's a ton of interest in this device because of the price point and being "sponsored" by XDA.
Did everyone get that piece of mail from XDA?

Just wondering since I can't find any info. Does this come with gorilla glass or any other sort of scratch resistant glass?

I Think there will be enough available for $150ish on swapa, as long as they dont sell out on amazon and newegg
now if they DO SELL OUT, then there is going to be a premium, given how much buzz they have created !

It sucks being in Canada as I really wanna pick one of these up.

How about updating your european devices as well, or is it just a fact what i'm assuming, that being that Honor doesn't give jack-**** about Europe?
I don't think you can fault Honor for trying to fight there way into the western market. There competing against big-boy established companys.
Anyways the updates aren't much of anything, if they don't update to marshmallow with all the other varients, I could see being disappointed

Seeing the way they're handling updates so far for this device, I have my doubts if Europe or anyone else is going to get Marshmallow any time soon... Also I don't care who they have to fight against, if you can't keep up, don't step up, it's that simple.

I don't know the numbers...... But did they sell 1 phone in Europe and 10 million in the US? I know that sounds extreme, but makes good business sense to support the majority.
We don't know what the software team at honor is anyway, could be one person handling variants and a whole team handling the states.
The phone has only been released for a short time and we know they are working on updates, so they haven't ditched the development.
Just saying be patient because you haven't had a update "NOW"
We have a working CM ROM anyways, why would you want to use stock?

Other than bands and languages, isn't software the same? ROMs for L24 with B140, work on L21 and L22. However, the US version only comes with 2GB RAM, whereas other variants come with 3GB from what I've heard.

I have no received any update yet to 151. Wonder whats taking so long.
The updates are merely security updates. They are being pushed by regions. There is little to no change in the UI between 140 and 151, but there is some more bloat. Additional apps like Kindle and Amazon, which you may or may not want.

Honor 7 Source Code Petition

Hi,
I'm maybe not the first one to do it but I made a petition about Huawei/Honor not giving source code of Honor 7. Honor published the source code of Honor 5 but why not H7? We need Driver Sources, otherwise devs won't be able to develop ROMs.
If you can share it, we'll get more signatures
It's available here
Counter: 13
Thank you, Nex
Maybe it would be more effektive if you d be more specific about what they habe to Release.. they ve allredy released the Kernel sources, but the Thing that is Missing and is elementary for Rom devs are the Driver sources..
It's not very likely they'll release the driver code.
Just remember that it took several years for Xiaomi to release source code...

Source codes are already published by the Honor, so please stop making petitions, and as far as the ROMs are concerned, we need a solid device tree, on which some devs are working on to make it possible.
So I kindly request you to not make this kind of threads from now on asking for source codes from Honor for Honor 7, as they are already released.
You can take a look at it here, this thing spitted out the DigiKernel v1.1

Gave away my Mi2s. But I still like the other gadgets I own from Xiaomi.
The development of Miui is unbearable. It´s bugs after bugs and locked boots. And support for older devices is short to nonexistent, they tend to abandon old models too soon.
What about translations made by 3rd party volunteers? And noncoherent update policy?
A nightmare that resulted in the loss of massive market share. They were once the biggest Chinese phone brand but now are 4th or 5th.
Miui is a very good idea badly executed.

Indeed, at the beginning they grab quite a market share by MIUI, then release its own low budget phones, that was totally a hit in China market. After that, other companies like HUAWEI, MEIZU, OnePlus and others find the same gold mine and do their own jobs. Without much patents or "hardcore" fans, Xiaomi falls down quickly.

They actually boasted a lot their products were bottom up and they had engineers listening to consumers in forums to incorporate their suggestions into future releases. Oh how consumers complained for several months for fixes that they never delivered.
So Huawei it's very good in comparison, just need to fix/optimize MM fast charge, battery in 4G and multiusers.

HUAWEI starts to provide "powerful" phones since last year, from Honor 3C, 4X and so on. It looks like the first years of Xiaomi, hope HUAWEI can make this trend last longer and provide a long support period for its devices. If not, open source its kernel and let developers and fans to have a longer life of a phone with decent hardware.

The Honor brand is disappointing..

I'm quoting a user who contacted Honor UK asking about the EMUI 5.1 update

Honor has no plans to release EMUI 5.1 at the MO.

I hope that this thread will be noticed by the Huawei/Honor community managers, and that they'll take full responsibility for all the false claims and misleading motto about supporting the Dev community (that includes releasing proper source code) + 2 years updates + XDA partnership.
We need an explanation.

Yepp, disappointing. My last Honor personally, will move to another brand.
I'm a big fan of the Honor/Huawei camera, its the best out of all brands I've used including Apple, but they need to improve the updates and release the kernel source. For a moment I was close to selling the Honor 8 and getting a OnePlus for a better software experience, but I managed to go jump through hoops to manually update the phone.
I paid $280 for my Honor 8. I have been nothing but happy with it. If you don't like it, move on to something else honestly.

If you got your phone for a good price and you're happy with it, it's good for you. This thread exposes some facts and its aim is to get a "minimal" support from Huawei. So, maybe we'll move to something else 'honestly' in a near future. But many users can't afford it
Don't get it. People are calling some underpaid support guy on the customer level, mostly not really tech avid guys and quite uninformed and than believe what they're saying? Honestly?
There is only one department for outside communication. And you never talk to them. Relax and don't believe what so [email protected] guy is saying you, as they often get informations even later than the customers.

I know what you mean. Though, I like my honor 8 phone but their support is by far the worst . I ask questions in their community forum site and hardly ever get any responds . And, I even wait a few days for an answer, still nothing . To me that's not acceptable . It would be different if I were asking my question here on a non Honor website but my questions are direct to them, unacceptable PERIOD

Lol it's the same even with supposed top brands like Samsung your calling a call center usually from another country that has only been trained to tell you how factory reset your phone from settings or from a button combo. If that doesn't solve it you are usually directed to send your phone back for warranty if it is under warranty or pay to fix your phone. So it's not just honor brand.
Yeah, I like the hardware especially at the price but software support is too poor for me to ever consider Honor again. Too many bugs and too few fixes.
It's the same on every single brand. My last was LG V10. A very pricy device. But no updates, not even security updates in time. I was expecting this for a 650€ device. On the H8 I got Nougat right after I booted it. And it was only 360€. Quite good. I'm disappointed by the closed source policy though. They promised more and that's why i didn't get the bq devices with some kind of Cyanogen on it. Still not sure if it was a wise decision.

That maybe so . I wouldn't need another phone for a few years . When that day does come I will make sure beforehand which company provides a good phone and support, one thing is for sure it wouldn't be Huawei
I want Security updates once a month.
B360 has the patches from three and a half months ago.
That's...crap, honestly.
I'm not asking for shiny new features and the latest version of Android. Those would be great, but EMUI 5.1's not horribly out of date. Security fixes so my data's not stolen or device ****ed up are kind of important.

Honor 8 Long-Term Update: How's it holding up?

The Honor 8 has been out for about 10 months now and can now be purchased for $299 from the Honor website. So let's see how this phone holds up and if it's still worth the money.
Updates
The Honor 8 was early to the Nougat scene and has been updated regularly. The stock firmware is currently on Android 7.0 with EMUI 5.0. This has the Honor 8 easily keeping up with its competitors when it comes to updates.
Development
There are several regularly updated ROMs for the Honor 8 that will bring you up to Android 7.1.2. This phone can be rooted with SuperSU while running nougat, and the bootloader can be unlocked easily. So as far as development goes, the community has not let us down.
Specs
Seeing as how the Honor 8 is now a $300 phone, the specs hold up just fine and sometimes easily surpass other phones in this price range. The 4GB of RAM is what most flagship phones are launching with today. The 1080p screen is still plenty usable with no complaints from me. The camera has aged well, still being a lot of fun to use with all of the camera modes on this device. The Hisilicon Kirin 950 processor keeps this phone running plenty fast.
Durability
Who else cracked the back of their phone? Other than that, it's still in once piece. Parts are easy to find on ebay and they're very cheap. This is something that I usually look at when buying a new phone.
Accessories
There were never really a great selection of cases to choose from for the Honor 8. Seems there's still a very slim selection or low quality cases for this device.
Overall this phone holds up nicely. I'd say if it were $400 it would be too expensive. $299 seems like a really fair price for this phone to be going at right now. You can usually find it even lower than that on some other websites.
Just give us EMUI 5 KERNEL source code and we'll be happy customers
I'm afraid you'll find many that would argue that development has NOT been great with this device. Still a great phone though...
How much did Honor pay you for this post?
Look at all the threads saying "Huge battery drain after upgrading to EMUI 5." And you'll know where Huawei screw up.
@morpheus302 +1
everyone complain about bad battery life after upgrading to A7. Update policy I call it joke, there are a lot of users who still doesn't still received update to A7.

At the risk of piling on to an innocent person, I too thought the OP looked like a press release from Huawei. Interestingly enough, I made a similar post about how the Honor 8 needs a better reputation just a few hours earlier in this same forum. So maybe I'm getting what I asked for? :victory:
Imho the Honor 8 is not a bad phone hardware wise, It's just seems like they spend more on PR than actual development and updates. His statement about updates is laughable at best.

And then? Don't we need the Kirin Sources aswell for drivers and stuff?
No update to Android O for Honor 8 according to this: https://www.google.bg/amp/s/theleaker.com/android-o-8-0-update-smartphones-list/amp/
If this is true, i am pretty sure that Huawei are idiots!
See the link correctly https://theleaker.com/android-o-8-0-update-smartphones-list You will find out in comments that they have only included the devices which will get the update for sure, I also don't think that Honor 8 will get the update. But don;t know maybe they will seed an update.

That's someone's opinion but I doubt it's Huawei's official opinion. I'll wait till they announce their intentions.
That will blow if the honor 8 doesn't get Android O. I got another one on sale and have high hopes for this device
Okay, I broke the back glass. Paid $40 to get it repaired.
About the software updates, the US version is doing poorly. Security patches are not delivered monthly. We stayed at a very early patch for a very long time. About the O update, this device should get it. They should at least provide two major Android updates. One was Nougat and the next has to be O.

Only this community of phone nerds cares about monthly security patches. There isn't a company outside of Google that can realistically maintain that level of software support for their entire device portfolio. 2 major OS updates is the most we should realistically expect from Honor or any company. Anything else on top of that is just icing on the cake.
My girlfriend's Huwei P8 receives security patches every two months at least, one just received some days ago with July security patches. So i don't understand why we are not getting them...however, i agree with PuffDaddy_d. I would prefer to have Android O instead monthly security updates

I'm pretty sure you know it haven't it. Don't have to be ironic, just understand what i mean to say. Having Nougat doean't mean delay in security patch updatea, but if you're ok with this, perfect. However i told i don't care about them too much.
does anybody regret getting the honor 8? i'm debating between it and the pixel (for 2x the price).

Yes
Hi,
yes indeed (new option 2k / 1080p).. but I thought you guys already knew that? about the long awaited v7.2A there is almost nothing news on it.. Meizu is as good as dead if we compare his fw support & developments in comparison with other Chinese foon devices.. really pity.
I am going to sell it and instead of buying Mi7pro.

Hi,
A lot...
x8 from meizu you say.. Really?
for the learned among us, never buy a meizu foon once again in your entire life,
I had already made that "stupid" mistake in 2017 and meanwhile I learned already a lot from that mistake!
meizu is just a scam company, they don't make or let no custom rom run on it and also they given the opportunity not even to the guys to let them make one custom rom for such a good (same as s7) foon..
them fw update support is zero,zero.. their goal is give us your money and run far away and never expected any real fw support from us for the phone you just bought it from us back.. we're just scammers under the name Meizu.
If.. and only if, if I'm gonna be crazy I would buy some foon from them (meizu) again but that will be in the years 3333!
Ps: I really hoped that I would receive a decent fw support from them as usually for at least 5 years, that's why I sold my old note4 in 2017, I am not such a guy who buys a new phone every month / year!

Something you said are true by the way. But i think flyme os is the main reason behind your views. The hardware they provide is so good enough and strong when compared to other phones in market. Yeah x8 from meizu is now cost same as p6p.But for me i can't buy it since here in India duty comes 41.2% of product actual price.

Hi,
believe me bih.. kaise haal... theek hai? yah.. i'm from the time before Sangam.. the real and only legend R-Kapoor = Her dil jo pyar karega, dost-dost + Joker, (no.. no, i'm not from ind..!) I never wrote anything out of my thumb, I had and have seen and seen a lot, the phone itself is very good (super sharp display and fast too!) but that fw fly -far away from- me! is worthless really nothing useful in it, men had to install google by himself again and again and the language too (if you use the A version) with help of that language apk, while other chinese phones are standard with google submitted, all in all, I'm not going to buy meizu again.. meizu is too much hassle for me.
मैं आपको मेरी शाम को बहुत बहुत शुभकामनाएं देता हूं dost.
