unable to root my galaxy s5 again - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Model SM-G900I
Model name GALAXY S5
Version Android 5.0
i have rooted my phone earlier using odin successfully, but after unrooting my device i cannot root it again.
i tried unrooting it using kingroot and my phone was broken, i was unable to turn it on, nothing was working, so i downloaded original firmware from sammobile, i have successfully installed this firmware which is of my region(oceania)- G900I, but still i see i am unable to check firmware updates as it says it gives error of unauthorized installation.
i tried to root again using one touch root apps, also odin & one click tools using usb debugging, nothing is working, i have rooted same device successfully using ODIN but that is not working for me now.
please help me, i want to root my phone again.

Did you try to flash Twrp recovery through adb? Once this is done, any ROM and/or SuperSU for root should be possible to flash with Twrp. I don't remember if the boot loader needs unlocking. Maybe it has been locked again by hazard and needs to be unlocked again.
Edit: I did it like this: http://androiding.how/how-to-install-twrp-recovery-via-fastboot/

This is the latest official twrp binary for the Galaxy S5: https://dl.twrp.me/klte/
Unfortunately, I don't know, how a locked bootloader behaves, sorry. Can you post a photo of your bootloader screen? Something similar to this: http://media2.giga.de/2014/03/samsung-galaxy-s5-download-modus-rcm992x0.jpg
http://www.galaxys5update.com/install-twrp-recovery-australia-galaxy-s5-sm-g900i says that the Australian G900i seems NOT to be locked. It also states this:
TURN OFF the Reactivation Lock – This is only needed if you already turned-it-ON, from which you cannot modify the system when it’s turned-ON. Just tap on Settings>>Security>>Reactivation Lock and then uncheck the Turn Reactivation lock on.

Do you have this setting?

yes i have same setting.
i tried to install twrp recovery via fastboot but when i do "fastboot flash recovery ****.img" in cmd, than nothing much happens, it's like " <waiting for device>", left for 20mins, still the same.
bootloader screen " snag. gy/YqjXY .jpg "

Hm, I'm puzzled. The bootloader seems OK. There doesn't seem to be a driver issue with your PC, because the command "adb reboot bootloader" works, as seen in the "screenshot".
I'm only guessing now. Maybe it helps to disconnect and reconnect USB after the bootloader has been started and reissue the flash command. If it does not respond after 20 seconds, abort with ctrl-c and retry. Or maybe, you can try the same procedure on a different machine. Or maybe try a different USB cable or a different USB port on your machine. Make sure, that you have the latest android drivers/tools installed and there are no parallel/conflicting versions installed. You are sure, that on your phone you have enabled USB debugging and disabled the reactivation lock?
What is different now, compared to the time ODIN worked? Different Windows, different cable, different USB port? Try to disconnect all other USB devices. Connect the phone directly without a USB hub.
Well, I'm running out of ideas. Maybe someone else can help out...

@Danstroem I think you've pretty much covered it.......
The only things I could add.....
Maybe try disabling antivirus and firewalls......
Also, if kies is installed/running, disable that too.....

Using fastboot with an samsung device will not work you have to use Odin because fastboot us not designed to work with samsung devices.

Those one click root apps never work for me. What I do is flash a custom recovery, then I flashed the supersu zip http://download.chainfire.eu/743/SuperSU/BETA-SuperSU-v2.52.zip

Fastboot only works with some android devices such as nexus Motorola asus, etc
---------- Post added at 07:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:59 PM ----------
Also if you want to get updates working again you have the do a clean flash meaning wiping all partitions from twrp and flashing the stock firmware again

Download the twrp file with the .img.tar extension and flash it in odin

Are you mentioning that your device only boots to fastboot now? If you press 'start', does that boot to system or not?
Which stock ROM did you flash, and can you confirm if the flash worked? How did your device brick in the first place?

As siddhesh9146 had mentioned, the Athene stock ROM cannot be flashed in stock recovery, it is not a flashable zip file. You need a computer and ADB set up, extract the zip on your computer and use the flashing commands in the fastboot ROM thread to flash a stock ROM.
Until you've flashed the stock ROM, I'm not even sure if you have stock recovery, or a stock system on your device. The supplied blank flash does not appear to have a functioning recovery included with it.

So, you booted your device to the bootloader screen (not to recovery), connected your device to your computer, and you've flashed using the OEM_flash script, and yet you're unable to reboot to recovery?
Sounds like your stock ROM flash did not work the first time, leaving you without a recovery or a system. Try the following just to confirm:
1) Ensure your adb folder contains the extracted NPJS25.93-14-8 stock ROM (all the files), should be about 2 GB for the stock ROM. Also confirm that the OEM flash script is in the same location (so your adb folder should have the stock ROM, the flash script and the adb and fastboot.exe and adb.dlls)
2)Reboot your device to the bootloader (power down, then press the power and volume down keys to boot to bootloader) and connect your device to your computer.
3)In the adb terminal, type 'fastboot devices', without the quotes. If communicating, you should see your device respond with its serial number.
4)If communicating, run the OEM flash script again.
5)If your device does not boot properly, then reboot to bootloader.
5a)Copy each of the commands from the script (you can open the script in a text editor) and paste them in the adb terminal window and run each one by pressing Enter on your keyboard. You should see the command report [OKAY] if it's flashed. Any errors, let us know, that might point more accurately to what might be going on.
As an aside, this is one of the reasons why downgrading isn't a good idea....

"soft-brick" on Essential Phone PH-1

A while ago, I tried to root my Essential Phone using magisk. I unlocked the bootloader, flashed twrp, but when I tried to install the magisk zip file, it failed, and I was stuck in a bootloop.
Easy problem to solve right? I wiped everything from my phone (including the ROM), downloaded a stock ROM (.ZIP file, and I think that’s what ****ed everything up) and when I tried to install it, it failed once again. Therefore, I downloaded another stock ROM file (this time as a .img file) and tried to installed it.
But what I ended up doing, was installing some other .img file as the boot image (on twrp), and after that, my phone kept restarting endlessly. I couldn’t access the recovery mode (if I tried to press the vol down + start buttons, or just the start button, the process would repeat, so I leaved my phone there until it run out of battery, now its off).
I was despaired and tried to search every inch of the internet for a solution, and obviously, I could not find it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks for your attention.
(Im not sure if this is really a soft brick, I named this thread wit my basic knowlage, sorry if Im wrong)
Use
fastboot unlock_critical
Then flash your full stock formware to both slots
You can get in the bootloader right?

From my understanding ... After you get the bootloader unlocked and the critical partition as the poster above stated. Pretty sure, Magisk, when booted into the android OS should be installed.. After that you can patch the boot image(to include root) without root! And then, fastboot flash boot (path/to/boot.img).
For not being able to boot into TWRP .... Did you use the command fastboot boot twrp.img? Or fastboot flash recovery twrp.img ?
If you used the boot command - TWRP will not stick.
If you used the flash command and cannot access TWRP, IDK, you may be on the wrong partition. I personally had a bit of difficulty with there being two partitions. Just made it a bit confusing...
As the above poster asked, .... Are you able to get to the bootloader? If so, I don't think all is lost... I'm thinking you'll just have to do some fastboot commands again, like, fastboot boot TWRP.img . Then you should be able to just press the volume a time or two to boot to recovery. oh my god Im such a dumbass, sorry
I had this problem tonight also. In my case I suspect it had to do with the install of magisk in which I checked both boxes and patched the bootloader. on reboot I was stuck on boot. Just wanted to add my solution. I got the pie back to stock zip here https://forum.xda-developers.com/essential-phone/development/stock-7-1-1-nmj20d-t3701681 then I put it into the adb folder and ran the flashall.bat script. I tried the no wipe one and it saved my information. very happy I didnt have to resetup my phone in the end.

Few days ago i decide to install GCAM on my mi a1 with magisk and a patched boot...evrything is working fine but when i unistall magisk phone still rebooting many times and wifi doesnt work.
I tried to boot the original boot.img , then i flash oreo stock in many different version but nothing to do.
At this point wrongly i try to click on flash factory. bat file but i dont know if the code is work correct because the command prompt is closing in a bit.
Now i read that this file corrupt and delete the IMEI...
Only solution for me is the edl because in another try i lock bootloader and then i cant unlock, i dont know why, by fastboot command.
Then i open my phone e try edl method....my device is recognized but after few attemps to flash many stock rom from the first to the last nothing change...
my device still black with blinking led, evry buttons do not respond.
WHAT CAN I DO??? I NEED YOUR HELP
Just download latest firmware or any old and flash it in fastboot

First download oreo firmware and boot into fastboot mode
The open cmd and hit
Fastboot oem unlock
Then open xiaomiflash software and flash it.
Note: don't lock your bootloader again when you have Installed any custom thing

I have exactly the same problem tried everything but still no solution. Bad thing is that there is no service center in my country.

Me too. i'm freaking out because i think that the only solutions is change the mainboard, and no xioami centre for doing that but only an autorized .

sideloading adb firmware

So I am really stuck and don't know what to do. Unlocked the bootloader, installed twrp just fine and rooted. then I went to install a custom rom after I made sure it was working and then it kicks me back to the normal recovery. twrp is gone and I can't fastboot the firmware cause I wiped it to flash a rom. Now when I go to adb sideload I keep getting error 21 footer is wrong and signature verification has failed. Can someone please point me in the right direction to fix my phone? thanks
Download stock firmware and flash it via fastboot, all the instructions included in the link https://www.essential.com/developer/current-builds

Fastboot isn't enabled cause I wiped to flash a rom. and every time I try to sideload it with adb it fails.

This phone is tricky to get recognized, try changing the usb cable, different usb port and make sure you have the correct drivers installed, and the latest adb fastboot files.

weird thing is I can get it to show when I type fastboot -i 0x2e17 but I am not sure how to use that to flash the firmware. I believe I have all the lastest drivers since I unlocked my bootloader yesterday.

I had my phone for a week now and happened the same for me ,my pc wasn't recognizing the phone.
All I did is searched for drivers and new adb fastboot files and that did the trick.
Try to remove the phone from device managers on ur pc and install the drivers manually.
Good luck.
