Notification Sound only over BT - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know this seems to be an old (Samsung) problem, but is there any way to force the system to play notification sound only over BT when a BT audio device is connected?
I found suggestions to mute the device but neither vibration nor mute helps because then no sound is played over BT. Some suggest apps like Bluetooth Auto Connect, but either I am to dumb to configure it that way or it is not working for anyone.
And I noticed that shifting audio focus seems to be quite slow, at least on my G2 it felt way faster (could be because of settings in Poweramp for audio shifting on notifications?). Thanks in advance.
Device: SM-N910F
Baseband Version: N910FXXS1COK1 (should be the latest, is the closed pendant to stock androids software version)
Not rooted yet, but root and XPosed should be running by the end of the week if that helps solving the problem.

In the past I have used the SoundAbout app for just this purpose - routing Notification sounds, Ringtones and even Media audio to my Bluetooth headset when it's connected. There is a free and a paid-for Pro version:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.woodslink.android.wiredheadphoneroutingfix
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.woodslink.android.wiredheadphoneroutingfix.pro
Lots of options and settings to tweak - very flexible app, and the only one of its kind, if I'm not mistaken.

And how did you configured it to work ? I think I have configured it right but keep getting both sounds.

I don't have it installed at the moment as I no longer need this feature, but I was able to tell it to route all Notification sounds to the Bluetooth headset under "Alert Behavior" and "Bluetooth Behavior" and then choose what you want in there. It is definitely possible to do what you want with this app, and you can have separate routing settings for Media, Phone Call, and Notifications. If you don't like the persistent notification in your status bar, you can choose "SoundAbout Service ON - No Status".

Ok, found why it was not working: in changelog there is written you have to restart it after installation. So it's working now.
Thnaks for the quick help

That's great! Glad to hear it

Default Bluetooth settings

I'm trying to find out if there is a way I can automatically make my bluetooth use a default 'on' setting of having both handsfree AND stereo streaming enabled?
The reason is that I recently bought a Sony head unit for my car which is BT enabled for both calls and music streaming. It's superb and is really easy to use in that respect and works very well indeed.
The problem is though that when I turn on BT on the phone, whether manually or by a profile switching program, it switches on with a default of hands free enabled, but not the music streaming function (A2DP?) so every time I want to stream music in the car I have to go to Windows>Settings>Bluetooth, then activate the stereo streaming option in the bluetooth control app, and this is really frustrating and fiddly.
I just want it so that every time I turn on BT (no matter by what means) that both these BT options are enabled automatically.
I have a sneaky suspicion that it's an easy thing to do and I'm just overlooking it so apologies if that's the case! I have found a setting for "Connect separately to Bluetooth hands-free and stereo audio devices" and I have unchecked this, but it has not helped.
Can anyone tell me how to do this please? And sorry if it's totally obvious! If I can't do this with the default phone settings, is there a suitable bluetooth management app that would solve it?
On a slightly different but related note...
The other thing I really want with BT (as per other peoples threads on this subject) is for Bluetooth and Wifi to switch on every single time I plug the phone into a charger.
I've tried 3 different profile switching apps now, and whilst they are pretty good I can't get them to behave 100% how I want, but more importantly they all seem to cause a very noticeable increase in battery drain. Some are better than others but I just can't hit the happy combination I want to justify all the hassle of setting them up and having less battery etc. I wonder if mortscript can do what I need. Presume so, so I'll have to have a look into it.....
Thanks anyway!
Actually - apologies but I think I found a couple of useful threads about this now that for some reason I missed when I was searching earlier. Doh!

Bypass A2DP on demand

I have this issue with my HTC BT Headset which when paired and connected will receive all sounds including games and system sounds. Sometimes even the ringer will only sound in the headset and not on the phone (this happened at rare occasions).
I have edited the settings of my headset and unchecked the option for media but then it comes back again when I connect again.
Now, I want to be able to divert audio back to the device when for example I play a game or play a media clip. The only thing I see on the screen in the message that audio is being played on the BT headset.
I am sure there must be a key sequence to bypass this but I can't figure it out.
Sorry I have no solution, but just to say I have similar issues. My HTC headset picks up the audio from Copilot.... which I suppose is no bad thing in itself, except that the sound drops out all the time... which is pretty useless on satnav! Not sure whether this is a problem with the phone or the headset (whihc is otherwise working fine). I'd just like to switch off the A2DP feature too.

[Q] how to turn on audio when bluetooth connects

When I get in my car my phone connects to my stereo automatically and all and all the A2DP functions work great. Only thing is I normally keep my phone on vibrate, and multimedia sound off so I don't accidentally make noise in an inappropriate place. The problem with this split setting for sound in android is I can't just bind the two and either put my phone with audio on or off generally. Is there a way to turn off multimedia sound with I connect to my stereo and turn it back off when I disconnect? My old wm phones did this no problem.
thanks!

Perfect. Only problem is I use a generic phone holder and usb power supply... how does it know its docked?
*edit* solution might be found... the same people who make car dock settings have bluedock 3 which does the same using the bluetooth profile (similar to Advanced Audio Manager once combined with "car dock settings")
I also found Toggle Settings|Profiles Lite which might work... I will try them all and report in case anyone ever asks the same question and falls on this thread
**second edit, reporting on the apps**
Toggle Settings\Profiles Lite works great. It takes up about 1mb ram rather than 150k compared to car dock settings and another 100k for bluedock 3, but its a free all-in one package that is MUCH more powerful and versatile. With the lite version you get 3 "Rules", I used one to make my car settings based on connecting and disconnecting from my stereo. It allows me to change just about anything on connect\disconnect and lets me create two other rule sets I could want (and as many as I want if I pay for the full version). I strongly recommend this app to anyone and everyone who wants to have automated location\connection\event\time based actions. The only down side is it takes about 15 seconds for the bluetooth to register as being connected (so be patient), but I think this is part of android because wifi-related events are instant.

Bluetooth A2DP problem -- not playing through headset

Hi folks, I've been having this very frustrating problem with A2DP that I can't seem to find anywhere else on the forums.
My bluetooth headset (Nokia BH-905i) connects to my nexus 4 just fine, and I've been using it to listen to music since I get my nexus in january. But recently, every time I connect my headset, and I go to play any music or other sounds that play through the media channel, it comes out the speaker on the phone. In addition, when I use the volume slider I get the "speaker" icon instead of the "bluetooth" icon that I used to get.
My bluetooth headset has worked fine since the OTA update, it's just very recently (last week or two) that this issue has been happening.
The first time it happened, a simple reboot would fix it, now I can reboot and re-pair the headset all I want, it just won't work.
Has anyone else had this issue?
PS. I will also add that the next/previous track buttons still work, but the play/pause button DOES NOT! Very strange!!!
Am I seriously the only one with this problem?

What music player app are you using? That could be the problem right there. I sometimes have this problem with my JVC Arsenal head unit, but usually disabling and re-enabling bluetooth does the trick. Don't have to unpair or reboot, just toggle BT on and off.
Anyone know how to get the track info to transmit? It used to work with Apollo and Pandora, but it won't work with Spotify or anything else. In fact, it doesn't work at all on the N4
I use DSub, but I've tried google music, and also any other "media" sounds don't go through the headset as well ie: Youtube, games, etc.

have you checked the device profiles in the bluetooth menu? there is an option for phone audio, and an option for media audio, check them both
Yes I'm sure, I've also toggled them multiple times to try and get it working...
I also have this same problem. I'm using CM 10.1 nightlies
For some reason I able to pair my phone but not the audio.
In the Bluetooth settings though I only have the option for phone audio and not media audio. After checking on a couple of forums, it shows that my radio does support Bluetooth streaming through a2dp, but for some reason I cannot get it to work on my phone...
Edit:
It seems as though A2DP is broken in CM 10.1 as in stock android roms. I'm not 100% about this, but thats what it looks like.
Hi,
I do use AD2P audio a lot, and never had this issue (Sony MW1).
I m using exclusively AOSP or AOKP based roms (never use stock CM 10.1 because of how silly big is the navbar), but I can give it a shot during my next flashing session for testing
I don't have any problem pairing the audio. The checkbox goes and the headset actually beeps. It's connected, android just isn't sending the audio to the headset.
Me too

I've got the same issue.
I have tried with both jawbone and jabra headsets, no joy.
If I toggle bt on/off/on, connect the headset and then try playing music immediately I get ~1 second of audio over bluetooth before it goes silent.
I'm currently on PA 3.15 with moles kernel, but am going to try some other kernel/rom combos.
if anyone knows which logs i should be looking at i'm happy to upload them
Not quite the same problem, my music plays out of the phone speaker. Also I'm running stock rom.

If i wait more than 1 or 2 seconds after connecting my headset it comes out of the speaker also, as the bt media connection dies. I only get the little bit of audio if i hit play right after I connect the headset
I managed to find a very strange work around...
I installed this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sImNvbS5tYXhpc3Rhci5tb25vYmx1ZXRvb3RoZnJlZSJd
I turned on the app, and I could listen to music over mono mode (which sounds AWFUL). I then turned the app off, and when I changed the volume with the volume buttons I noticed the volume bar was displaying the bluetooth icon instead of the speaker icon.
My app was playing music, I didn't hear anything, but my headset was still outputting the characteristic 'hiss' of being in mono mode. So I went into the bluetooth settings and turned off mono mode, and now it is playing music through A2DP finally... We'll see if this problem occurs again and I'll see if the same process fixes it again. I'm just glad it's finally working again without resetting my phone.
I just wanted to update my post for anyone else who might have this problem in the future. I've performed this fix once before my last post and I haven't had to do it again, I've also uninstalled that app and everything is still working great.
It worked for me too!
Thanks to PickleHead and his workaround I'm listening again.
Thanks!!!
Media audio VS. Call Audio
Hi,
I have Samsung galaxy S3 with android 4.1.2 connected to my fordAudio BT device.
I am playing music using the original media player that came with the Android.
The BT connects quickly, but I can't hear the media I'm playing.
Recently I have discovered a "workaround":
When I disable the "call audio" (using the BT menu in settings) and leaves only the "media audio" checked, I am able to hear the media play.
If I re-enables the "call audio", the sound mutes immediately.
Does this helps to understand the issue?

I'm having exactly the problem described here, but this solution doesn't work for me. I have a Galaxy S4 and the bluetooth media audio sometimes works when I boot the phone up, but later it doesn't work. I tried this MonoBluetooth app and it doesn't seem to help. When I tell it to turn on the the mono signal, it says the media is disconnected even though the bluetooth module says it is connected to the AD2P device with media audio. On cases where it does connect, it seems to work, but in that case the bluetooth works with out this app fine.
I'm running 4.2.2 and see this on both the MDK and ME7 code base. I'm looking for a good soluton. I tried the Bluetooth Fix Repair on Google Play, but it can't seem to find my bluetooth configuration folders.

I have had exactly this problem for a couple of days with my S4 connected to my Jabra Freeway car speaker. Also in my case, disabling call audio makes the music pass through, but then I can't use the phone via the speaker which is sort of the whole purpose of the thing!
But I just found a simple workaround: I simply called my phone from another phone to check that phone audio passed through with both options enabled. It did. But it also cured the problem: After the call, media audio worked again - with both options checked.

I'd be interested to know if this fixes the problem for any length of time. Occasionally, and usually after a reboot, I can use the media audio, but then it fails when I try it again. Fiddling with the connections and apps sometimes makes it come back on, but usually only for a short while. While it is connected, it seems to stay connected.

Need help solving audio over bluetooth issue

Did a search and couldn't find anything related to my problem.
I have recently gotten a SM-G950U1 variant of the S8, everything is working fine except for when the phone is connected to bluetooth. On bluetooth, all audio plays over the call channel versus the media channel. I've tried on two different cars and a JBL speaker, all with the same result. Turning off wifi calling helps this only slightly, as the audio is still muffled sounding unless I disable the "Call Audio" switch in each specific connection in the bluetooth settings. Obviously, ticking this switch off for the speaker isn't really an issue, but leaving it off for the car connections is a significant setback.
I'm just coming from an S6 that was on 7.0 that didn't have this issue. The phone is not rooted and I don't have a smart watch or anything like that. I did boot into safe mode and I think the issue was cleared up there, but was still active on my phone when I booted back to normal, with all of the accessibility options and permissions reset as a result. But other than the Samsung Sound Assistant app --which I deleted to see if it was the cause (it wasn't) -- I don't have anything that would change the way default audio functions would work, and I can't think of any specific app I have or a setting I may have ticked that would've caused this.
Have you tried using seperate audio settings? I think it might help...
