hello all you hackers and chefs!
got a quick question. everytime my brother heads out on the road, his main gripe with the touch pro 2 (official winmo 6.5 rom) is that it automatically changes his time zone as he moves on down the road. he needs to run his log book on east coast time zone only. the phone keeps updating the weather , gps location (obviously) and then the time zone. as long as the "my location" option remains in the clock setting area, this phone will continue to update the weather, gps location (obviously) & time zone. anyone know how to disable this function? In the words of my brother, "if i need to know the weather where i'm at, i'll just stick my damn head out the window of my truck. make this damn phone stop changing time zones!"
somebody please lend me a helping hand!!!??? PLEASE!!

Hello,
Did you check in phone/menu/options/time zones ... if it is unticked?
You can also disable the HTC Location services in the settings.

not quite sure what you meant.
i have been all thru this phone trying to find the "magical setting" to disable this for him with no luck. he is on a long haul right now and i would love to give him the steps needed to resolve this for him.
to clear up anything for everyone wanting to help..... we have removed all cities except cincinnati, oh. from the weather area. the "my location" stays on; regardless. any other pointers?
You may be able to fix this with a mortscript...
i just found a command line tool to adjust the time zone.
maybe it will work on that phone and do something useful?
its at the mortscript examples...

go to setting>personal>phone>cdma or gsm services (im on sprint so it says that)>time synchronization>get settings & uncheck time synchronize with mobile network then go to clocks & alarms then set it for the time zone u need
If he is using Manila 2.5, then the easiest way is:
Tap on the clock and tick the city he wants as Home (this will automatically untick "My Location"). If his home town isn't already in the list, just add it by tapping "Add City".
It really is that easy
Keep on truckin' dude!
ok we found it
WE found how to disable it but it does reset if you ever soft reset the phone. thanks for all the help guys...

That doesn't stick either! Every reset it will go back to my location - I also did the regedit under hkcu/software/htc/manilia... mylocation and set to 0 - didn't work!

I don't know if it's with all 6.5 roms but in the nrg jun22 21xx rom, gsm services isn't an option anymore.

That also didn't work for this rom - including the option to prevent all apps from using location service.
So I've had this problem with pretty much every T-mobile phone I (and anyone I know) has had while being at college. I am in central time, but am only about 20 miles from the eastern timezone border and T-mobile is always trying to tell me I am in eastern time.
All of my old phones have had a simple setting to turn off automatic updates of the time, allowing me to set it to central time and not have to fool with it. I can't seem to find this setting for the HD2 though. I don't want to turn off HTC's location as that will stop the weather tab from being able to find me, and that isn't really the issue anyway. If anything the GPS should be telling my phone I am in fact in central time.
Does anyone know where to find the setting that stops the phone from updating it's time based on what the network says? If possible, is there any way currently to have the GPS set timezones for us, as that is going to be more accurate than what tower you are getting signal from?
Thanks!
Idk if this will help you, but have you tried tapping on the clock on the home screen and you then can add your custom location or current location ....maybe there are other settings there also ?
Go to settings>menu>all settings> date and time, there you should be able to change the time zone.

This works fine but there is no option for Daylight savings time. Must have over looked it. Just select central time and manually change one hour ahead.

I personally have called T-Mobile about this and even speaking with a Teir 2 I am disappointed. They reset my ports and the time zone correctly updated, then as soon as I left my house and headed downtown it changed. Guess what, as soon as I got back home later it changed back to Pacific.
On the HD2 the option to change the timezone is greyed out indicating that it is updated from the carrier. I have changed the other settings every which way with no avail.
My theory is that the HTC Sense "Weather" app automatically updates the Time and Weather based upon the GeoLocation info. The name of my city is Portland and I suppose it thinks im in Oregon!
I have tried the various clock settings but to no avail. I can click on the flipclock and change the time manually, or even pick my own location rather than using Sense's "My Location" option. This works for a little while, but when the wether updates it's weather data it also changes my location.
I have also gone into the All Settings->Clocks & Alarms and changed the time zone manually which also works temporarily, but again once Weather updates the timezone is changed.
BsB Tweaks has a setting for Auto Sync Clock which is precisely what I need turned off. Oddly enough, there is something outside of BsB that overrides it's setting and turns the Auto Sync Clock setting back on.
It completely boggles my mind what is going on here. In theory the Sense's weather app should not directly affect whether or not the system clock is synced with the network time/timezone data. More so, if Sense decides it must update the clock whenever it finds the weather location/data it should be able to update the clock based on what timezone my GPS location is within.
Maybe there would be a way to add this feature in, though I'm not sure exactly how to go about it as I haven't done any tweaking and hacking on WinMo in years. It would be best for everyone if our clock was synced with the My Location data, as this gives an extremely precise understanding of what timezone I am in.
The automatic timezone settings may be in the phone settings and not the clock settings. Try going into the dialer then select Menu--> Options and click the Timezone tab. Then uncheck the the box to automatically update.
I do not have a T-mobile USA HD2 yet (mine is on order), so this is an assumption as that setting is available on my Diamond. If you don't see a TimeZone tab, it could be that T-mobile is hiding it. In which case there is probably a regedit to re-enable the tab so this can be unchecked.
Hope this helps.
hadn't thought about looking in the phone settings for the clock synchronization, great idea! that may have lead me to the solution, I'll see what happens in the next few hours.
Here is what I did...
Settings-> all settings-> personal-> phone->GSM/UMTS tab-> time synchronization-> get settings> uncheck auto time synchronization
I don't think they could have hidden that simple setting anymore if they tried! hopefully that will do the trick, thanks!
Time Change
My phone was doing the same thing, thanks for the fix. Duhhh, did it again this time i manually added my city and the correct time for it however the tab with current location is still an hour ahead, crazy. Help...
HTC HD2 (Leo) Time Zone Problem (Greyed Out)
Almost - My HTC HD2 (Leo) goes: Settings ->Menu->All Settings->Clocks&Alarms
Then click the 'Time' tab, and there's a dropdown where you can choose your time zone. You'll almost certainly have to set the time dropdown as well (just under the time zone dropdown).
But you're right - they certainly conceal this most primary of settings very thoroughly!
Cheers, Mark

Does anyone else have a problem with the factory installed htc weather/home screen clock widget not updating itself? There is an option to click for it to update automatically, but it will not stay checked.
Anyone else have this problem or just me?
Thanks
What is your update interval? Right below the "auto update" is the choice for sync interval.
I really like the Sense weather, but my big problem with it is in my city, it is not available when I search it to 'add'. However, when it knows New Port Richey when I'm in my house. So why can't I add the city otherwise? But I like the interface.
I try to set mine up to update every hour. But once I navigate away from the settings page and go back to it, the check is gone again. It won't stay checked.
I also have the problem, it will know my location, but I can't really add my city. I will put a city or zip, and it will just say city not found. It works for other cities though.
Nevermind, i figured it out. You were right about the sync in account/sync. I was trying to set it up under the actual widget settings, not the phone settings.
Thanks!
Basically I just want to use Tasker to turn on a PIN lock when I'm not connected to my home wifi. I've tried it multiple ways - using the keyguard on/off built into tasker, using the secure settings plugin, etc. I can't get it to work. Is there something I'm missing here? Does the Nexus 7 have problems with this function? Any tips would be appreciated, thanks!

It turns out that Android is no longer allowing applications to lock / unlock screen, this is a security feature (even Tasker has this info somewhere in the documentation). The way Tasker currently turns off the screen lock is by some messy work around. The closest I got to having this feature working on ICS and later on JB 4.1.1 was that it was working as expected most of the time, but whenever the screen lock was switched off by Tasker and I clicked on any notification in the notification bar, the screen would get locked and keep locking itself from then on. This is really annoying and makes this feature pretty messy and useless. So I finally resolved to setting the phone to lock automatically after a long period (eg. 30 mins), which is good enough when I'm at home. That way the chances are that if I forget to lock the phone and loose it, it will lock itself after 30 mins. I also created a shortcut on the screen (using Secure Settings plugin) to lock the phone manually whenever I remember about locking it. I doubt there is currently a better way of doing that.
Hello,
I'm starting to hate my S7 Edge, and I'm really missing my Edge 6 Plus. Has anyone else had these problems and perhaps have any advice for resolving them? I've searched around and can't find any other reports of these problems.
First, if I'm traveling, *sometimes* I can't use the Google Navigation App if I'm in motion. For example, if I'm driving home, and I decide to get gas, if I say "OK Google, navigate to the Gas Station" It will of course find a close gas station, and allow me to choose which one. After I do so, the app will plot a course, but then will fail to acquire a satellite. The app will just sit there constantly saying "Acquiring Satellite" (or something to that effect, I can't remember the exact error) but it never does find the satellite. The only fix for this is to repeatedly turn off and on the Location services, until eventually it just works. Which is extremely infuriating not to mention dangerous while driving. I rememeber falling in love with my S6 Edge Plus because it had such an easy time navigating and this S7 Edge is so consistently terrible at locating my position.
Second, this is a problem I did not know I had until today: After mis-placing my phone, I went to the Google "Find my phone" web page on my computer, to force my cellphone to ring. I have used this service before with all my other phones and it never failed to force the device to ring. But this time, my S7 did not ring. Luckilly I was able to find my phone on my own. When I did locate it, i noticed that there was an icon in the notification tray saying "Ringing phone" and yet the phone was NOT RINGING! With the phone in hand, I tried to use the webpage to locate my phone by ringing it again. The same thing happened. It put a notification up that my phone was "ringing" in the phone's notification display, but made no actual noise.
I checked the settings - > Lock Screen and Security -> Find my Mobile, and it asks me for my Samsung Account Password.
Why my samsung account? Why not google? I don't understand.
So I signed in, and google location service is set to ON, as expected. Remote controls is also set to ON. There is a notification at the bottom that says to track and control my device, go to: findmymobile.samsung
So I go there, and I tell it to ring my phone, and what do you know? It rings my phone perfectly. Noise and everything.
How do I switch it over to google's service? I really don't like most of Samsung's software offerings, and would prefer to use native google apps out of convenience. I don't remember ever having this problem with any other galaxy device. Not even my tablet does this.
Can anyone help?
I haven't had any GPS problems with mine (U.S. Sprint version). What are your location settings? Make sure it's set to use GPS, and not just network or WiFi.
Find My Mobile and Android 's service are two different things FMM is Samsung's product. To make sure Google's is active, go to Device Administrators and make sure Android Device Manager is turned on. Then go to Apps, scroll to the bottom and tap on Google, then scroll down and tap on Security. Make sure 'Remotely locate this device' (and 'Allow remote lock and erase' if you want that) are turned on.

Thank you!

Settings / Applications
Scroll to bottom, tap Google (on my Sprint S7 Edge, it's the very last item).
Scroll down until you see "Security" and tap there.
The first two toggles (on mine) are "Remotely locate this device" and "Allow remote unlock and erase."

Ah, I was able to find the settings under Google, however both are already checked. Are there any other settings I need to check?
{{Edit: I toggled the setting just to test it, and now it seems to be working. I don't know why this worked, because the setting was already properly configured. But it works now. *shrug* Thank you so very much for your help and patience!}}
Glad to help. I seen lots of things get fixed when you toggle a setting. Something in the settings file got corrupted, and toggling the settings on and off rewrote what should have already been there. At least that's my guess.
