How to root beta-testing Android M firmware on Galaxy S6(SM-G920F) - Galaxy S6 General

This will only work on SM-G920F!
Don't risk bricking your device if you're not on SM-G920F.
/* Disclaimer */
Your warranty is now void.
I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this kernel
before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you. Hard. A lot.
/* Downloads */
1. You need to use ODIN 3.10.7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711451
2. Download newsboot.tar, oldsboot.tar from http://arter97.com/browse/S6/M/root
3. Download PhilZ Touch recovery(tar format) from http://arter97.com/browse/exynos7420/recovery/11.0/g920fi
/* Steps */
1. Do whatever steps necessary to upgrade your G920F to beta-testing Android M firmware.
SamMobile has a nice guide how to do this : http://www.sammobile.com/2015/12/23/how-to-install-android-6-0-beta-on-galaxy-s6-or-galaxy-s6-edge
I do not recommend users to use dumps online to upgrade to this beta-testing firmware. Follow official method.
2. Download [BETA]SuperSU 2.66 zip file on to your phone. - This new 2.66 version fixes deep-sleep!
http://download.chainfire.eu/896/SuperSU/BETA-SuperSU-v2.66-20160103015024.zip
3. Download ODIN and the necessary tar files on to your computer.
4. Put your device into your download mode(ODIN mode).
4.1. Make sure "Auto-reboot" is unchecked from ODIN's options menu.
5. Install oldsboot.tar
6. Hold down <Volume down> + <Power button> + <Home button> for 5+ seconds and re-enter download mode.
6.1. Make sure "Auto-reboot" is unchecked from ODIN's options menu.
7. Install PhilZ Touch recovery(tar format).
8. Hold down <Volume down> + <Power button> for few seconds until the screen goes black.
9. Hold down <Volume up> + <Power button> + <Home button> right after the screen goes black. Hold it until PhilZ Touch recovery pops up.
10. Install the downloaded [BETA]SuperSU 2.64 zip file.
11. After installation is finished, select "Reboot system".
12. Do not select "Yes - root" option, if PhilZ Touch recovery asks you to root your device.
13. Right after the screen goes black, hold down <Volume down> + <Power button> + <Home button> for 5+ seconds and re-enter download mode.
13.1. Make sure "Auto-reboot" is checked from ODIN's options menu.
14. Install newsboot.tar
15. During the first boot-up after installing SuperSU, your device will reboot once.
16. Done!
/* Explanations */
The oldsboot.tar includes sboot.bin(bootloader) from older Android L firmware, which allows us to use custom recovery that uses Android L kernel.
After we boot on the custom recovery, we can root.
But since the newer Android M kernel is not compatible with older sboot.bin, we have to re-install the newer sboot.bin. The newsboot.tar serves that purpose.
If you need stock recovery for some reason, use recovery.tar from http://arter97.com/browse/S6/M/root
You will not be able to get future Android M firmware updates after you follow this guide. You must re-install stock firmware to do that.
You have to repeat installing oldsboot.tar and newsboot.tar if you want to use custom recovery.
If you are stuck on the "Galaxy S6" boot logo, or reboots, try re-installing newsboot.tar.

Won't this break OTA's? I do not recommend using this(or anything at all) for rooting unless you absolutely need root, this will probably lock you out of any future beta updates.

Thank you arter97. Would it be now posible to upload a clean backup of MM rom?

Just to know: will FlashFire work instead of this method?

Thanks boss!!

Ah gotcha, didn't read careful enough to see that

which button?
Do I have to use the BL or AP button to flash the three files in odin?

@arter97, could you do the same for the SM-G925F and post it in our forum.

[GUIDE]Fix unknown serial ROOT stock ics w/o binary incr/cfw flash guide !

hi guys this is my first post i'd expect you all to go easy on me if i make any mistakes, but i have tested it on my international s2 and this method works fine ! this will give you root access and allow you to install all sorts tweaks and custom roms without triggering the binary count !! yep that's right !!
WHAT THIS GUIDE IS GOOD FOR :
*Clean install of ICS.
*Gaining root access with custom kernel flash or increase binary count. NO YELLOW TRIANGLE !
*FIX FOR UNKNOWN SERIAL NUMBER.
*Sorta detailed guide for installing cm9 or any other custom rom.
here's what you need :
*odin 1.85 [link attached]
*check fus downloader . [link attached]
*official stock samsung i9100 ics firmware for your country/region[ in my case it was i9100xwlp7_tml_blabla] get it using check fus downloader.
*cwm.zip [attached]
*your kernel of choice that supports both sammy and aosp/aokp [my preferred is siyah 3.3.2 if you need cwm manager ]
*cwm flashable rom/addon zip.
l
*20 minutes at max.
before you proceed here's a how-to to download stock ics firmware using check fus downloader.
launch the application.on the standard tab on the right side select android from the drop down menu.select gt-i9100 from the devices list and finally the region where you live.then on the left side click check firmware. it will take a few moment and finally a download button will appear in the bottom. press it and wait patiently as it finishes downloading.usually takes about 20-25 mins depending on your connection.
once downloading is finished or if you already have it downloaded, read on:
1. boot into download mode to flash stock firmware if you are not running official samsung ics. if you're running stock firmware then skip step 1. this also fixes the cm9 no serial number issue.
2.flash with odin the official firmware.
3.wait for the phone to boot up automatically.set up and connect the phone again to your PC.
4.after getting detected switch phone to mass storage mode.copy the attached cwm.zip to your external SD card. Also copy your desired cfw like cm9 rc1 in my case and gapps if needed.
5.now disconnect and turn your phone off.reboot into default android recovery using vol up+home+power button combo. let go off the power button once you see the Samsung gt i9100 boot logo.
6.once you successfully manage to get into android 3e recovery, select apply update from external storage and flash the cwm.zip.immidietly your phone will reboot into cwm recovery. this will give you temporary recovery access to flash your phone. if you reboot from this step you will loose your cwm and you will have to repeat the step 3-4 to get it back.
7.once into cwm,choose wipe data/factory reset.
8.then wipe cache partition.
9.go to mounts and storage and format system and data and cache. [this is necessary for a fresh cfw install, it will also ensure your cfw will function correctly.]
10.go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache, wipe battery stats to ensure your battery gauge is reading correctly and there are no previous kernel remnants.
10.then press power button to come back to main menu and select install zip from sd card.
11.choose your rom from sd card and wait till it finishes flashing.
12.reboot your phone once done.
if your rom comes with gapps then your flashing process ends here.if not or if you want flash modem or a different kernel then read on.replace gapps mentioned below with your desired package and the rest of the process are the same.
13.set up your rom.
14.press and hold the power button and select recovery from the reboot sub menu.
15.once back into cwm flash gapps/kernel/modem/add on package.
16.once finished go to advanced and select fix permissions. [necessary in case of gapps, other wise not needed]
17.reboot and you're done
Enjoy your newly rooted and flashed phone with no binary increase ! :highfive:
just to make sure there is no binary count increase, turn off your phone.press vol down+power+menu and get into download mode.you will see it reads binary as official samsung.
Hope this guide helps.please follow the steps i mentioned. i will not be held responsible for any damage caused to your phone but i believe there won't be any as I tried and tested it myself on my i9100 after a faulty flashable zip messed my phone up.please press the like button if i could help you.
please leave a comment if you need further help. I will not be attending pms at the moment.thanks !

[Q] How to install room ( XtreStoLite )

I just got a brand new Samsung G900F. I was able to root it successfully and now i'd like to install the XtreStoLite room.
The install instruction say
- Do a Data/Factory reset first in your recovery
- Start the installation
- Reboot
- Enjoy the Rom!
- Optionally: Flash the Aroma add-on Package, to restore some of the removed Samsung Apps/Functions that you want (You can do this anytime!)

Besides reboot I don't know how to do any of those steps. If anyone could explain to me how to install it I'd be very grateful.

You must have a Custom Recovery installed (Philz Touch, TWRP...), you can find them in Android Development section, download then flash it via Odin. Then go to Recovery Mode by pressing the following combination keys: VOLUME UP + POWER + HOME BUTTON. Then follow the instructions above.
Good luck bro
Warning: If you using towelroot, you will trip knox anyway if flashing any custom recovery. If not, so just forget what I just said.

I appreciate the quick reply but i'm not much smarter yet..
Whats the custom recovery and why do I need it before installing a custom ROM? I did "root" my phone already with Odin.
So I downloaded Philz Touch but i'm not sure what to do with the zip file and Odin.
A step-by-step would be very helpful. I really woudn't want to brick my phone. Thanks
I will explain to you some definitions first
1. Custom recovery will overwrite your phone stock recovery. It has many features that stock one does not. Such as: backup/restore your rom, install custom zip/ota update (install custom kernel, custom rom) and many more...
2. According to 1. To install a custom rom, you must have a custom memory first, right? Because custom rom mostly is packaged in a zip file. You can't use Odin to flash it as you did with a stock firmware
There is no chance you will brick your phone mate if you do the following instruction carefully. Provided that, you have your custom rom put into your internal memory or sd card.
1. Use Odin to flash Philz Touch recovery. Its steps are exactly as the same as you root
2. After flashing Philz Touch, your phone will automatically reboot, turn off your phone after that
3. Now, enter recovery mode by pressing a combination keys as I said above
4. After a few seconds, you will see recovery menu.
5. Choose wipe data/factory reset - > clean install a new rom
6. Choose install from zip - > install from sd card if you put your custom rom in internal memory OR install from sd card 1 if yours is in sd card - > choose the rom and install. Follow its instruction and reboot
THATS IT.

You can use the t810 root. The only issue is that your stock recovery will say t810. Irrelevant if you install twrp or just root with twrp itself.
Sorry for the complete noob question, but I am running the verizon version of the tablet Model SM-T817V android version 5.1.1.

Hi,everyone!
Please advise would CF-Autoroot and TWRP work on SM-T815Y?
Thanks, However I think I am going to hold off until there is a root specifically for the t817t on 5.1.1 AOG8 cause I've read that a lot of people who flash the t810 root have bootloop issues, cannot use 4G LTE and cant go back to the stock t817.

The ONLY people having bootloop issues are the ones that don't read instructions properly!
Flashing a t810 kernel on an LTE device will lose LTE connectivity.
There won't be a specific root for T817T as it's the same as the t815.

RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING boot loop
Dear all,
Reeally appricite your effort getting full control of our tab S2!
Clearly I have done something very wrong while rooting, and updating my S2 from LL 5.0.2; I'm now at the point where my 810 tab are in a "endless" booting loop what the top-right corner of the boot screen are showing "RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING", looks like there is an attempt to boot, but it don't succeed.
Before I go further and make things even worse I wonder if you have hints or ideas that can help me get the tab s2 running andirod agian? (please...)
This is what I did:
from factory state wiht 5.0.2 on smt810:
I rooted : smt810_cf_autoroot.tar - booted -root working
I twrp - t810_twrp_LL_5.0.2.tar - booting - all working
I updated the sw : 810_oh7_fw_BigBot96.tar.md5 -- and is **** here, in the RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING loop
Clearly I'm not a expert, that have done something wrong - agian, truly appriciate any hints.

This is quite common question and already answered before... I've wrote the guide below, took me some time since I've done it on phone :S
Anyway, next time please search before asking a question as there may be already an answer.
There is also a thread with Q&A, basic informations and ROMs / kernels list.
Click below to see the guide.
TWRP for 5.1.1: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j5/development/recovery-samsung-galaxy-j5-t3468844 .
TWRP for 6.0.1: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j5/development/recovery-samsung-galaxy-j500f-t3416960 .
If you already have TWRP installed, then check step 3) and then skip to step9).
1) Download Odin. I'm using v3.09.
2) Download the right TWRP according to your android version and J5 model.
3) Download one of these:
- SuperSU
- phh's SuperUser which is Open Source.
- Magisk Systemless Root which is Open Source too.
4) Go to Settings > About phone and tap 7 times the build number to unlock Developer Options.
5) Go to Settings > Developer Options and enabled OEM unlock option (something like that).
6) Boot the phone in download mode, by holding Power + Home + Volume down buttons same time and choose continue or something like that.
7) Open Odin and connect your phone to PC. Make sure that the USB drivers is installed on your PC. Usually this is done automatically by Windows when you connect your phone to PC.
8) Now in Odin you should see a number at ID:COM or similar. Press "AP" button and choose the TWRP file you've downloaded and start to flash.
If you're flashing TWRP 6.0.1, then untick the auto reboot option in Odin before starting to flash. Once the flashing process is done, unplug your phone from PC, take out the battery and boot in TWRP by holding Power + Home + Volume UP buttons same time.
9) Boot in TWRP by holding Power + Home + Volume UP buttons same time.
10) Flash the root file you've downloaded at step 3) (SuperSU / phh SuperUser / Magisk).
11) Reboot and profit.

So you flashed TWRP 6.0.1 right?
You did this?
If you're flashing TWRP 6.0.1, then untick the auto reboot option in Odin before starting to flash. Once the flashing process is done, unplug your phone from PC, take out the battery and boot in TWRP by holding Power + Home + Volume UP buttons same time.

FULL STEPS TO INSTALL TWRP
DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. I AND XDA AND NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR BRICKS. FOLLOW THE STEPS CORRECTLY.
WARNING: Flashing a custom recovery to your device will trip the Knox warranty bit on your phone. Check with your mobile provider to see if they will still cover warranty on Knox bit triggered devices. If you understand this risk, continue on.
NOTE: IS NECESSARY TO GO TO:
Settings -> Developer Options -> OEM unlocking
AND ENABLE OEM UNLOCK FIRST OR YOU MAY ENCOUNTER 'BLOCKED BY FRP LOCK' WHEN FLASHING.
1-Download TWRP :twrp3.1.1-1_J330.tar
2-Download no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1.zip and put it on SD, external memory of the phone in any folder
3-Flash twrp3.1.1-1_J330.tar with ODIN in the AP slot.
Put your device in DOWNLOAD mode.
Uncheck Auto reboot.
Load the respective file below into the AP slot and hit start.
After flashing and ODIN reports PASS immediately reboot to recovery by holding POWER + VOL DOWN.
As soon as the screen goes blank change to VOL UP whilst still holding POWER + HOME.
You should now see TWRP recovery.
4- For the full work of the recovery need to make the format of the data section.(WIPE-format data-yes) (Warning: all your data and applications on the phone (not the SD card) will be deleted)
5-MANDATORY !!! reboot again in the recovery and install the script no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1.zip
Congratulations! already quietly go to make backups, sewing firmware and in general anything you like

You can use this TWRP only with mouse through the OTG cable.
In the near future I will try to fix it
I never said it was unusable. But I don't have an otg cable
