Since 6.0.1 Update, Instagram/SnapChat no longer save photos to device after upload - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Don't know if anybody else is having this issue but ever since updating to 6.0.1, whenever I post something to Instagram or SnapChat the pic/video does not save to my 6P. I have uninstalled/reinstalled the apps. I have given the apps all the permissions. I have also disabled all apps from being able to perform a screen overlay over other apps which was a message I would get when trying to give the apps permissions to storage.
I still have the original Instagram and SnapChat folders on my 6P with photos in them before the 6.0.1 update but nothing is being saved to them ever since Don't know if there's anything else I can do or have to wait til Instagram or SnapChat release an update to fix the issue. Seems to be a few other people complaining about it from reading recent reviews of the apps.
Thought I'd check here if anyone had any solutions. Thanks

Yeah it's probably something Snapchat needs to fix. It's one of the drawbacks to being on the cutting edge. I don't know what you have tried already but you may try and booting to recovery and clearing cache. I would assume if your camera saves photos to the gallery then all is normal, besides your Snapchat.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll try that and see what happens. Yeah, no problems with pics/videos from the camera from being saved. And I actually am using an App called Instagram Photo Saver which allows me to save Instagram photos to my device which Google Photos is saving but the photos saved by the app are at a much lower resolution. But yes, SnapChat when I toogle enable storage access to SnapChat it does say "This app was designed for an older version of Android. Denying permission may cause it to no longer function as intended." Unfortunately, it's not working as intended either way.

Do you know if there is an issue using Snapchat filters on the 6P? I am getting a message that the device isn't supported.

Play Store only shows permissions???

Just got my Nexus 10 and I am really annoyed with the way the Play Store is working on it. Apps only show their permissions instead of the description as to what the app does, changelog, pics, etc that one would normally see. Anyone else having this issue and how can I fix it? Tried deleting all of the data from the Play Store but issue prevails.
they changed the UI, which I agree with you, it's stupid. Anyways you can get to the description if you click on the area above all the permissions.

It's just a UI change. You have to tap on the picture of the area where the logo/name and install/uninstall buttons are. I hate it. It's even worse now with the new Play Store update... a similar issue is now present on the N4 and N7 for me. Especially annoying when an app has an update and you have go to a separate screen to find out what the update contains...
wow, yeah, that is annoying

Pushnotification Bug

Hi all,
last week, I decided to root my device and install xposed (3.0 alpha4) and a few modules, like Android N-ify, GalaxyXMod, GravityBox, YoutubeAdAway and Youtube Background Playback..
Everything works fine and I'm totally satisfied, but there is one big issue.
It seems, I have pushnotification problems. Sometimes when I open instantmessegers like
Whatsapp (also tried with GBWhatsapp) or Snapchat, the messages just come in when I launch the app.
So the problem is, that I sometimes get no Pushnotifications but when I launch Whatsapp an hour later,
there are 10+ new messages. Same procedure at Snapchat. It seems, that the apps just refresh when I open them.
I tried everything to fix this bugs, I updatet Samsungs Push Services, I allowed background data, I reinstalled the affected Apps but the problem is still there.
Then I decided to dont delete whatsapp from my recent apps and since them it seems it works.
Is there a way to get realtime notifications even the app is closed by recent apps, like before?
Is there anybody with an idea or a hint?
Thank you very much. Have a nice day.

I experience this with my WhatsApp messages, I thought it was something to with my WhatsApp, to be honest, I haven't noticed it with other apps.
I have the same problem with viber and whatsapp, it might be that way because of settings where you can save network data but im not 100% sure about that.

At Data-usage -> Background-data i turned on everything. So background-data should not be the problem here.
The thing is, that my colleague has the same xposed modules and the same root like me but he has no problems.
Also the problem is only present since i rooted and flashed xposed.
The issue is really disturbing.

Well that is strange im having the same issue except im stock and non rooted.
I've had this problem since i bought the phone couple of months ago. I've tried a couple of solutions without success.
Today I cleared cache and dalvic cache, until now it seems to be working.
If there are any news, I will let you know.

Facebook Messenger & Snapchat Clashing

Hello all. I'm not much of a developer myself but I know a decent amount about Android apps. I've been having trouble with Snapchat recently on my 6P. Lots of times, especially when on the actual camera page of Snapchat, the app is very unresponsive, it crashes, and it won't function or take pictures. I recently realized that this usually happens when Facebook Messenger is open and I try to use Snapchat at the same time. I suspect this is because Facebook Messenger keeps the camera open at all times and so does Snapchat (I believe that is well-known). I can't post the screenshot but the bottom menu bar of Messenger has a camera icon which instantly brings up an inline camera window for quickly taking and sending pictures. I can't confirm this because I'm not sure how to detect if an app has a lock on the camera but this is my theory. Has anyone else experienced this or possibly looked into it? Thanks guys.
I never recognized this because every time a app wants to use camera or sth like that i must allow it,
(but then its not a fast feature anymore ).
But im not really understand your problem, or is it necessary for you that both apps are running at the same time?
By the way, are you running stock or a rom? Rooted?

The problem is I often use both apps at the same time so this suspected camera lock problem slows my phone to a crawl and causes Snapchat to be unusable when I have FB Messenger running.

Is nougat the king of crashes?

Seems ever since i update my s7 to nougat, and now have nougat on my s8, i'm dealing apps constantly crashing on a daily basis. Apps that never crashed before, ever, are constantly crashing on nougat. And by no means is this a samsung thing, because my friends sony z5 also has similar issues with nougat, what did google do that is causing these apps to crash?
I haven't had a single crash so far.
Not one crash either. You must have a rogue app. System reset.

No crashes at all.
Did you transfer programs, data from your old phone to new one using something like Titanium backup or smart switch? I read a lot of complains about stability issues from people doing that. Or like someone already said, some app creating issue, but not that easy to find which one.

Yes but i've reinstalled the problematic apps, same apps crashed on the s7. I mean it could be the app but they never crashed on android 6, and since nougat has been available to devs since march 2016 i'd imagine they'd fix any compatibility issues by now.
No crashes watsoever on niether my nougat s7 or s8.
I think you have limited options here: either reset the phone and reload all apps fresh from play store, or try to identify what causes the problem and there are few ways to do it. For the record my phone never crashed and I have it since day 1, but I did have couple apps that should be working, installed fine and crash the moment they start.
I had to factory reset out of the box after my first update. It sucked and was a bad first impressikn but it has been working ever since and I've had it for a week.

I used Helium on my S8 coming from S7 as Smart Switch was not importing my apps settings.
Backup went well, but I have some apps that force closes some time.
The funny thing is that I have force closes not on those apps where importing data was for me mandatory (like games or note apps), but on standard apps where I could even install them from Play Store.
I made backup of everything for simplicity, just for not having to insert all the logins and passwords for all my apps.....
I still can't understand why Smart Switch failed to import my data when I was coming from Samsung S7 with Nougat update, so if someone maybe knows why, please tell me...but as far as I've read, I haven't noticed big complain and force closes after importing with Smart Switch... Maybe they where importing from a non Nougat Samsung.....
In my actual case, resetting device would be a real problem as I have a lot of apps and reinstalling them would mean to lose an entire day in doing the job.
If someone knows how to fix things, maybe cleaning things up or so, please reply.
If there's no solution, I think I'll do only a data backup with Helium and then go through reset and consequent Play Store install of all apps list previously saved on AppBrain so to have the complete list already set...but it's still a huge work!!

2 s8's here and neither have crashed once yet. Do a factory reset, and install all your apps manually from the play store and be done with crashes.

Your crash seems to be isolated to one app. An app that I wouldn't be too surprised is crashing. The OP on the other hand post would seem to suggest he's expierencing crashes from multiple apps.

Package Disabler - Gallery Stopped Worked

Hello,
I have disabled a bunch of packages using BK Disabler and now my gallery isn't working. If someone could look through my packages and possibly know what's stopping it I would be grateful.
Thanks.
Looks like you disabled the factory camera app (<string>com.sec.factory.camera</string>)
The camera app and gallery app seem to be intrinsically linked. I also played around with removing a load of Samsung apps (via root), and managed to break gallery.
I'm just having a 'stab' here, but that was the only thing that jumped out at me.
Out of interest, how is your phone performing? - Looks to me like you have removed quite a few critical system apps.

I found the problem. It wasn't 'com.sec.factory.camera' as that is a camera test thing, the camera is 'com.sec.android.app.camera'. It was CMHProvider.
The phone is performing great, my battery life has jumped to around 6 hours SOT.
It was CMHProvider indeed, who knew!
Thx Buddy!
