Rooted ZE500KL and OTA updates - Zenfone 2 Laser Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I was notified that an update was available today, so I tried to install it. It failed, but I was able to reboot.
The phone is rooted and missing some "system" apps (bloatware really).
Did it fail because of this ?
What's the solution to install OTA updates ?

Not only that. You might have to revert to original recovery before updating.

Unroot for apply OTA

Hello,
I'm French sorry if my english is not perfect.
If a OTA arrives in my rooted Zenfone 2, I know I won't can apply it without root.
So I will need to unroot, and I think this is easy with the option in SuperSU app.
But I installed many apps like Xposed and modules which need the root.
So if I unroot, will them be deleted or just be unusable ?
And if I unroot, can I apply the OTA without make a bootloop, then apply a second time the root?
Thanks
Envoyé depuis mon Zenfone 2 ZE550ML
When an OTA comes just do this things:
1. remove xposed framework files using uninstaller.bat by connecting phone to pc
2. uninstall xposed installer.apk
3. unroot from supersu.apk
No need to uninstall xposed modules
4. now you are good to apply ota.
after successfull updation. u can again root, install xposed framework and installer
Thank you for your answer.
When I will reinstall Xposed, the modules will be install automatically or I must do that manually?
(or better they won't be uninstall? )

You have to completely remove all the mods before applying ota or else you might get a bootloop or brick .

I should be ok for mm update... I checked through stock apps... Maybe I didn't delete anything but I'll make sure I move those third party applications out of system and then unroot via supersu.. Update ota and then re root and move them back.. Can't be that hard. First timer though, a little scared

So we need to have all bloatware system apps, unroot and also flash the stock recovery before OTA.
What if we download the full firmware and dirty flash the zip file?
Or, if we're on TWRP, wipe (system, cache, data...) and then flash?

You cannot flash full firmware via Twrp. You have to be using stock recovery and kernel

what i found it's temporary for first 2 or 3 times i reboot i saw root is working but after that scenario is the same and now i am editing the thread. new kingroot apk is the latest version it's just release at 31st most probably. For getting temporary root it's working just fine.

Chinese, I said bug fixes. When official Global firmware is released, it will not be OTA possible, only by MiFlash under download mode.
What languages are in this one? English? Also is it rooted or does it have native root in the permissions manager?

Thanks I hadn't looked at the download size as of yet. I'm still considering my options as far as ROMs. So far I'm a bit worried about changing things as I don't have a proper way to restore my phone.
Being an 'update' rather than full firmware, will I lose root privileges if I install?
It seems the file is missing on mega.

I'm using factory firmware since no root is needed and OTA is working properly. If you need rooted phone install 7.2.4.0 from greatslon (thread next to this one). Anyway if you have received phone with some kind of tampered firmware, change it immediately.

How can I know? It has firmware version 7.1.1 global. It has no root management in the permissions manager tool. It has some crappy youtube wannabe app and lots of DU apps built into the ROM. Does that sound normal?

You have tampered firmware, there is no global firmware for Redmi 3, at lest not yet. Download latest fastboot firmware from Xiaomi web page and use MiFlash to install it. Then uninstall all Chinese apps normally. With this steps you will have latest stable firmware and receive updates regularly. For example, I have received update this morning, 7.2.6.0 but by mistake missed to save it.
My About phone is attached just to show you my version info.
Guys can't like to ota files for the Chinese version of the rom.
Only global versions are allowed as they don't contain the mi store which is banned here.
My ROM is official stable China and not rooted, but when I click check update in updater app, show "there is update available"
Why???
You will receive update notification soon probably.
I'm trying to upgrade from 7.2.4.0 official because it's freezing 2-3 times a day without an apparent reason. Did anyone experience the same issues?
In any case, I get an error of "can't verify update package", what could be wrong?

I don't think v10D in south africa will be any different than V10c we have from european versions.
You can dl both Roms and try if vd works on your phone. If you have problem you can flash your stock Rom. I have turkish phone and i want to try European Rom but turkish Rom did not release, İ'm waiting. If you can try what i tell, we all have knowledge what will happen flashing 850 Rom over not european but same 850 rom based phones.
Available now, just waiting root for V10D
I got the update on 28/6 on my EU H850 model and other than the almost 10-15% speed increase didnt notice anything diferent.
Apps are opening faster and multitask is faster.
Has anyhone any link for the fixes they made? or they just optimized the phone for speed increase?

So you are rooted? This is stock rom and at least on other devices twrp is then replaced by stock recovery. You might need to use refurbish option. I'm new to LG and I have pure stock at the moment, so I'm not familiar with this phone yet.

I got the update yesterday, tried updating it automatically (i.e not manually flashing it with recovery, rather than clicking install now button on phone). I was using eng.stk twrp everything went well, except when I went to recovery to flash supersu after the update , it had replaced twrp with oos recovery.

I wonder why nobody is making a custom ROM or enhanced ROM based on the official OOS...?? Because I saw on OP3 thread there are several custom ROM are based on official OOS releases for OP3 and they are really good and stable.

Read the post.
If you are on OOS2, you need the OOS 2 stock recovery to flash it.
After that you can re install special TWRP that work on OO3 only.
Is the battery life better than 2.2.3?
