Custom Launchers/Icons on the T2 - Droid Turbo 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What's up everyone? I was wondering if anyone is running custom launchers or Icons on their Turbo 2. Was looking to run some different from stock. Is it possible on the T2? If so post up some screenshots of the launchers and icon packs. Would love to get some ideas for my T2.
Sincerely,
-Rick

There's a few here, you can run any launcher you want. I went with the Google Now launcher because I had it on my previous phone, it really doesn't look any different then stock though.

Nova prime

@mjones73 thank you for the opinion and the link about to go read up on it now.
@deeje00 thank you for the opinion. I was thinking about nova
@18t thank you for the opinion. Going to be checking out nova.

Smart Launcher 3.0 has replaced Nova Prime as my day to day launcher.

I purchased Apex Pro and Nova Prime a couple of years ago for my old LG G2 -- switched back and forth a couple of times, but have been using Nova Prime on the T2 for the last few weeks. Very happy with it. Features are extremely similar between choices like Nova and Apex. I like being able to adjust icon size, number of rows and columns, overlapping widgets and response to swipes and touches, as well as customizing transitions and the app gallery.
Nova has always felt like a truly polished professional product. I look around at others every few months, but generally land back on Nova most of the time.

How many are running their T2 with developer options turned on?

I would suggest going to the Galaxy S3 forum. This is for the Moto X Force and Droid Turbo 2

@waterninja I got my girl signed up here in the community. Just figured I'd post up real quick in case any Dev's were in that worked on them

Moto Atrix HD Home, With Ring, Weather, and Favorite Contact Widgets

So far this is pretty sweet. It isn't too far ahead of (Or different than,) our stock launcher, but it is pretty fun to mess with. Dig around in it if you install it, I keep finding neat features.
Oh, from what I understand from reading the posts about it, the zip contains 4 APKs. You MUST install all 4 of them in order for any of it to work.
The widgets probably only work on the home that comes with this. That's what I did and it works. I am running pretty much stock rooted with the V8 Bootloader. I think that I.C.S. is really the only requirement. So it might work with many ROMs.
Enjoy!

Cheers dude
It works and does look pretty cool I must admit. But you're right, sadly the circles widget only works on the included home app. If it ever works with third party ones such as nova prime it shall earn itsself a place on my home screen.

[GUIDE/POLL] Top 5 Launchers For The Tab 2

Hi Everyone, I Am new To The Tab2 Section, And Its my first guide on xda. Now, This Thread Will Guide You Through The Top 5 Launchers Fit For Our Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. These Selections Have Been Made On Performance, Customization, User Experience And Styling Basis. So Let's Begin:

Now, we are all familiar with the GO family. It has impressed us for many years, but not now. Though good in looks but this launcher is quiet embarrassing, the app drawer icon is small and on the top of the screen. It has many themes, many addons but still it dosen't fulfil the requirements.

Reserved. Still Reviewing The Rest Launchers
I would also suggest smart launcher , buzz launcher and nova launcher !!
I can make a review for these launchers if you like

I've been using apex for a while. Seems pretty good with a little more customization than stock.
Also i recomend tsf shell launcher.
Its really cool because it has features which no other launcher have. You can move freely(not in a grid) apps and folders, also widgets(resize freely them too). It does need much ram but thats not problem on our tab. We still have much free ram, even after using apps.
Only downside is the prize.
I'm using nova, smooth for my taby

Looking for a launcher similar to APEX

Prior to 4.4 I had been using APEX launcher. It was very clean and simple. However, they have ceased to update their launcher for a while now. Does anyone know if a launcher available out there that has similar characteristics while maintaining the same aesthetics as 4.4? Thanks XDA!
Give Nova launcher a shot. I've been using it for a while now and wouldn't go back to any other launcher.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
To add on to jayclarke94, Nova is definitely a good--if not better--alternative to Apex, however, if you want the aesthetics of 4.4 OOTB it may not hurt to opt-in for Nova's beta launcher. You can find the opt-in link on their G+ community page: https://plus.google.com/communities/103449253667195874971. It's totally free, will give you the look and feel of the Google Experience Launcher, and--better yet--has loads of customization options!

Looks strikingly similar to the GEL, eh? :good:
Another vote for Nova. Launcher is quick, has a lot of options, and the beta has the transparent bars.
I went for prime and I feel it was worth the couple bucks to support the dev and get the gestures and unread counts.
I use Holo Launcher HD. It just updated to include KK transparency. I've used it for over a year now and like it the best. Very similar to Nova Beta but includes a few features that I really like that Nova leaves out.
Check it out, its free & on the market.
Apex is still being developed. I am on new beta for kitkat right now. Just find official thread to find release.

Same here. Also, the free version of Apex has most of the paid features from Nova such as gestures.
Another one for nova Kit Kat

They are giving us the new Touchwiz icons that look like they are the result of Touchwiz being raped and getting a back alley abortion. Nooooooooooo. I hope they at least include themes so that we can hide that mess. Then again, by the time this is actually released by Verizon, I assume a lot of us will have already moved on to non Samsung phones.
I think the biggest UI upgrade I can recall occuring on a Samsung device was maybe when the OG Note got Jellybean and looked fairly similar to the Note II and picked up some new features. Otherwise, Samsung has traditionally let as little as possible trickle down from their latest flagships to "last year's" model when doing updates---look at the Note 4 or the Note 3 Lollipop situation , for example. Neither phone was as smooth or as refined under Lollipop as it was under KitKat (I do not recall if the Note 3 was better under JB or KK). I certainly do not expect things like theme support or manual camera modes to ever trickle down to the Note 4. I'll just be glad to get its RF and battery performance back to where it was with KitKat.
I highly, highly doubt we ever see this.

His demo phone seems to be very laggy as hell with MM 6.0. Hopefully by the time we getting this it should be better.
It looks like it has a few things I might like. But the icons, dear lord are they bad. Way to iPhoneish for my liking.
The settings menu looks decent to me though.

Exactly why I hope they throw in themes. I hope somebody asks on the youtube page. He's been answering questions. (I tried to ask, but youtube won't let me sign in since I deleted G+ and my YT channel.)

Any launchers that work properly?

As the title says... Are there any launchers that work properly on the S8?
Trebuchet/Catapult dont even load, and most of the others have a retarded semi-transparent gradient that makes it look just hideous.
Nova has been working perfect.

Another Nova Prime works a treat...
There never was any competition
This launcher hands down
I never understood why it gets so little recognition.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.launcher2&hl=en
I used it back when it was SSlauncher and now total launcher never failed me
You will never look at another launcher the same way after you try this one..
A little tricky at first but that is only because it has gazillion ways (unlimited?) to config it <3
Nova works flawlessly for me. Snappy, fast, simple and lots of swipe features.
Another vote for Nova. I haven't installed it on my S8 yet but I will after I play around with it stock for awhile. But Nova never let me down and I have used it on many phones and tablets.
Yep. Nova. I tried the new version of pixel launcher released on 3 April, and it had a small amount of lag. Nova is nova. If you're used to it, it works like it does on any other device. I waiting on the supposed reboot from Apex sometime next month, however.

Actionlauncher also works flawless

that might be down to a widget or something on the homescreen..
Nova works fine on my end.
Plus 1 for nova prime
Why would a widget cause Nova to crash?

Incompatibility? Bug? Try it w/o any widgets and add them back one at a time. If it crashes before it even starts up for the first time then its probably not a widget...
Nova is the best
Nova works perfectly for me
I went kinda nuts after first getting my s8 and I tried nearly all of them out there :silly:
Hands down the best one I found was N launcher pro (it's on the play store). Not only is it beautiful but it is 100% rock solid! It has NEVER crashed on me, or at least if it did I didn't notice.
Lots of people love Nova launcher but I personally was not a fan of the way it looked. YMMV.
Hacked up a quick example of my config.
