List of Android games (+ sideload) on ShieldTV - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am looking for a place to see the list of all android games (+ sideload) working on this nVidia Shield TV. Is there any site or place to see this list?
So I tried some games Angry Birds Go & Table Top Racing and it seems I cant get to play those without mouse. :crying: Any other options out there?

you could install droidmote and play those games with the shield remote if you like

Better is you install the Full Android Rom and you can act with the shield like a normal PC. No need for sideload and with DroidMote or Bluetooth Mouse everything should work

then you need mouse and keyboard

For playing games a mouse is good and you can also use the controller tethered to the mobile or buy a 3rd party controller

nobody has answered to your question, and unfortunately I can't either.
as I'm looking for an answer myself.
some gamepad games will work sideloaded, some wont.
I reckon we should start building a list here.
I start with
Portal
Half life 2
Never Alone - sideloaded (amazing game!)
Riptide GP 2 Sideloaded
Star Wars Knights of the old Republic
(Tried but failed, could be my apks though)
Breakneck - white screen after starting
Injustice Gods among us - black screen, crashes the shield

That's the only you can do by try and error. When I will get my TV back from repair I will also test some games and report here

Never alone, works great sideloaded

Thanks for list mate.

freemulator is compiling a list on the games that work via emulator.

MS-DOS games on Fire TV

Hundreds of FREE MS-DOS games possibly playable on Fire TV
I saw a story yesterday about Archive.org having MS-DOS games playable on your browser with no extensions or other extra downloads needed, it works nicely on my computer, then today I thought about my Fire TV, would it work? Here is what I've found so far.
My setup:
Amazon Fire TV - Rooted, no CFW
Software version: 51.1.1.0_user_511069920
USB Keyboard (Rii i8 Mini 2.4GHz Wireless Touchpad Keyboard with Mouse)
Amazon Fire Game Controller
Firefox 32.0.1
Adobe Flash Player 11.1.115.47
Open Firefox
go to: https://archive.org/details/softwarelibrary_msdos
click on game you want to play
I've tried 2 games so far, Oregon Trail and Wolfenstein 3D. Oregon trail seems to work just fine with the USB Keyboard, it even works full screen. Wolfenstein 3D does detect the Amazon Fire Game Controller after a button is pressed, but it doesn't seem to work, even after the suggested refresh. If I try to use the keyboard I get stuck on the input menu and the only way out is going to the Fire TV home screen. Might be worth taking a look at, maybe someone can find the games that work or a way to make them work, maybe a different setup or keyboard will work better.
Why don't you use an emulator instead?
Just try DosBox - there are various versions for Android, I bet at least one will work. I remember using it on a much slower hardware with success (Tegra2 tablet).

What emulators do you guys use?

I tried out mupen64 and it was pretty good, bit buggy. PPSSPP was alright. Retroarch crashes for me with Lolirock. Just wondering what you guys use to play games on it.
Been using paid version of Mupen with an original XBOX controller.. worked beautifully
Quickly tested Retroarch and worked fine for SNES games, hopefully it will be updated so it shows up on the main screen
Using stock rooted 5.1.1 Android TV on Nexus Player
snes9x and mupan, both work well. I am hopeful that someone writes a nice EMU interface for AndroidTV, that rivals my friends RetroPI.
For the Shield, I'm using FPse for Android, which has been great to be honest. I love the fact that it also looks for the game images too. Even able to use multiplayer with Crash Team Racing and two controllers.
Np
Hi, I use fpse for ps1 games, works very good. Md.emu as has the best controller setup I can find for multiplayer use and speccy. All in the game store official now
Has anyone been able to install dolphin emulator yet?
I cant i think Its because Its developed for arm64 and our device is x64?
Ps i tried Some apks without success from here: https://buildbot.dolphin-emu.org/builders/release-android
M.A.M.E.
Anyone have any luck running mame emulator on nexus player? I havent had Much luck. When I use Mame4droid most of the roms will load with a black screen but i can hear the audio. This one works on most of my other android devices.
thanks..........
The .emu emulators by Robert Broglia are the best ones available for older systems like the NES, GBC and GBA along with SNES9X EX+. For the Sony PlayStation and PSP, I recommend ePSXe and PPSSPP.
What about Sega Genesis/CD/32X stuff?
MD.emu, which is also developed by Robert Broglia, emulates the Sega consoles quite well.
Dreamcast emulator " reicast " works now on x86 systems and of course on Nexus Player. Nexus Player gamepad was recognized. You must use the debug build of this app, not the outdated Play Store app.
https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-why-there-isn-t-the-x86-64-recompiler-in-dolphin-mobile
This should be an explanation why dolphin (wii and gamecube) doesnt work on our device yet
Ps what version of ppsspp Do you guys use? I can launch it but when i start a game it doesnt work. (and what games Do work?)
Hi there how did you get this to work, been trying for days with no luck.what emulator and files did you use and where you downloaded it from, thanks
Hey guys, I have robert's emulators on my nexus player , but I'm getting bad scrolling, more so on the nes and snes, not so bad on the sega side of things. The sound hick-ups randomly on the nes emulator, is anyone else having this? I didn't have this problem with the ouya which is less powered? Just wondering is it a Marsh mellow problem etc?

What emulators have you tried?

what games android apk work with nvidia shield tv control pad? non-nvidia shield hub

which android games work with the control pad for nvidia that are worth installing/buying?
non-nvidia shield hub games
Most games that allow a controller can recognize and work with the SATV. I use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.offworldsoftware.androidgamepadgames
That let's me browse games that are compatible with the shield or any gamepad. That might be a good place to start.
Thanks for that Bradley.

The Google Play app searches for apps that are flagged with the Android TV/controller compatibility so what you see when you search is it. It's a bit sparse but there's some good ones on there.
Some apps have Android TV counterparts specifically made for controller or shield TV, which isn't a great thing. Nice that they specifically support our device, but not nice that if you've already purchased it on mobile you'll have to purchase it again for TV. Skyforce being the first one I've come across with this, which is an excellent game.
I also have done side loaded apps for Nvidia Sheild T.v.

can you stream any PC game to the nvidia shield tv?

thinking of building a gaming pc
will i be able to stream any game to the nvidia ?
or is only certain games
not sure on the graphic cards im going to get yet
Hi,
there is a list of supported games by NVidia (http://shield.nvidia.de/gamestream). And I think, all games purchased via Steam will work.
I am also looking for a way to add additional games, that are not on the supported list.
Found this: http://gfeenhanceddetection.azurewebsites.net/
Tested it with Sonic Lost World and Euro Fishing, without success. Maybe I miss something.
be good if 'all' steam games work

New to XDA and the Shield!

Hi everyone, just got done setting up my new Shield TV with Kodi to stream media files from my unRaid NAS! I purchased the Shield because my old WDTV Live was dying and there did not appear to be many options for media boxes that could stream network content without transcoding with Plex or similar. My unRaid server uses a very old Atom CPU and doesn't have the horsepower to transcode 720p video or above.
Setting up Kodi was pretty easy, although it wasn't able to install it from the Play store. I had to go the route of loading the APK from a USB stick. All of my networked media seems to play flawlessly!
So now onto my question, what is everyone using their Shield for? I've got mine in the bedroom and I'm curious to see what else I can do with it. Out of all my Android games (I have a lot because I've gone through 3 android phones and 2 android tablets) only Wayward Souls was available for Android TV. I some experience with PS1 and SNES emulators from my tablet, but it seems the Shield is much more capable.
My general household includes 2 android phones, an android tablet, a gaming PC with an nvidia graphics card, the unraid server, and an HTPC in the living room. Solid AC Wifi connection between the Shield and the rest of the network.
Throw some ideas at me - what else should I do with the Shield?
Welcome.
I'm using my Shield as a main media center hooked up to my TV in the living room.
I do some android gaming sometimes, but there aren't enough titles i like (hoping this will change)
once nop releases the NTFS and samba kernel, i'm planning to use it as a NAS with a 2.5" usb 3.0 hdd connected to it.
RetroboxTV is pretty sweet for game emulation.
We use our Shield as our primary media device. It does everything we want minus native WatchESPN. We have an hdhomerun prime that we use with the Live Channels app for live TV.
We have a 2 TB external HDD hooked up with movies and TV shows that we watch through Kodi.
What else are you looking for?

Get sideload launcher, it will give you a wider range of apps you can run. You can also install amazon underground (first download and install the Chrome .apk to browse to it). IMO, ES file explorer provides a lot of the network search functions that I used to use Kodi for, so that removes some software layers. MXPLayer seems to be the most capable video player I've tested.
Mount as fileshare

just ordered my Shield TV
Relatively new here, roamed forums and maybe posted once or twice. Just ordered my NVidia shield tv and cant wait to get my hands on it! One question that I have yet to get a concrete answer to is can you run amazon prime video on it? Currently have an AFTV second gen and love it but always wanted more power out of it. Think im good with the shield tv but I do need to have prime video. Can someone give me a concrete answer? I've read through tons of threads out there and seems some people say you can while I've read others who say its a no go. HELP PLEASE!!!
P.S. thank you in advance!!!!

You CAN run prime video. However, the current workaround will not give you you 1080p (or 4K). You'll be limited to 720p. http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tv/development/amazon-prime-video-demand-android-tv-t3278778
OK everyone so I've been using my Shield for a bit now and here are my quick thoughts. I haven't rooted or installed ROMs or done anything else. The most complicated thing I've done is put APKs on a flash drive and clicked "OK" in ES File Explorer to install them. I've also had to use a computer with the Play store to install a few games/apps.
1) ES File Explorer is OK but the user interface is very difficult to navigate (not intuitive)
2) Getting a PS1 and SNES emulator up and running were easy
3) Netflix, PBS, and CBS Sports are the only native video streaming apps I can get to work because I have Comcast/Xfinity and they hate Android TV. However, CBS Sports is only clips, not full programming, I find that pretty useless.
4) HBO Go and Showtime Anytime work with built in app casting functionality from my Android phone
5) Fox Sports Go works by casting my phone through Android (not within the app)
6) There are very few games in the Play store that seem to support Shield TV. So far I've only got Wayward Souls and Reaper.
Questions:
1) I've got Retro Arch and Arc Browser installed because I read about them a lot. However, I can't figure out what to actually do with either of those apps.
2) What other Android/play store games?
3) What other video streaming services (I have Comcast/Xfinity)
4) What emulator next? I'm thinking PSP would be good... anything else?
5) Any other apps or cool uses I should look at?

1) There is a touchpad on the bottom of the game controller. It's hidden, but if you run your finger over the gray area above the volume control it should respond as a mouse pointer. That should help you navigate some apps easier.
2) Implosion (play store), Sonic CD & Goat Simulator (Chrome.apk -> Amazon underground -> amazon Apps), and some of the more ambitious MMO like War Thunder and Vendetta should work well.
3) HBOGo should work from your phone by casting, as will a lot of other video apps. FoxNow, WatchESPN, NBC, xfinity TV Go are some others I've tested successfully.
4)
5) sideload launcher if you don't already have it. Kodi is good for live TV from external devices (i.e. HDHomeRun Connect), but I've always found its navigation to be more complicated than it needs to be.
