[Samsung Galaxy A8] Dear, Developers - Galaxy A3, A5, A7, A8, A9 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

First of all, I would like to give my thanks to all developers in XDA.
I'm just questioning several matters here. And they are about Galaxy A8.
I found that this device is actually a beast that can 'attract' people immediately once they hold this phone. A lot of people, including me, are really interested about how we can 'play' this device in some ways possible. Yet, it seems like there are not many developers in XDA actually 'attracted' with A8. This device was launched on August, several months ago. But sadly, even the start step on how we can 'play' this device is still not clear. Root is our first tool for devices we want to 'play' with. I've searched methods mentioned here on XDA on how to root this A8, yet I haven't found a suitable one. While there is a way possibly work for one of A8 models, the A800F, it is from another source. And how about the other models like A800I or A800YF? Some people said that A800F rooting method from other source outside XDA works, some people said not. I would consider myself to not to trust that source (even though mine is A800F itself) because I prefer XDA and the people within who involved.
They might say it works, but what's the point if we can't find the answer from developers in XDA we're counting in?
Is A8 not too good enough for development that trigger developers leave this device alone? A lot of people came here to find the answers since this is a section for A series, including A8, yet we found nothing.
I'm not questioning the competence of the developers because I know you guys are our green android who could bring more happiness to our Stock Device. Even it starts with a legit root ways, hopefully there will be helps in using recovery or even Custom ROMS in the future.
So please, dear, developers.
Help us even though we can only show our appreciation and our thanks which is not enough for your effort, please remember you guys are the only ones who can spread the happiness.
Best regards.

Hey dude, I ain't no dev . Just your average tester here. Uhm I get the fact that y'all are fed up with not having any development for your phone but trust me it's not that easy I mean , I have the Galaxy A7 and believe me dude we had to wait an awful long time too... There are not a lot of things you can do . You can try attracting devs to get yourself a rooting method. Uhm there was a dev that helped us called ShinySide ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=5580710 ) This holy dude helped us , he might help you as well . I suggest you kindly ask him he is a cool guy. I hope you guys get it short it out. Cause as it seems our phone too doesn't get much love . NOT EVEN from sasmung . Best regards

I will consider updating the kernel support for A8 series, but I can not be sure because I not have a A8 device now!

I'll upload the files you need and post them on your thread, I have SM-A800I and I can test your kernels on my device so don't worry about testing.
Thanks for your help

Samsung Galaxy A8 (SM-A800F) also uses Exynos 5430 Chipset (same as Galaxy Alpha (SM-G850F)

wow.. dead end? :/

Please post links or how to. I have a800yz and cant find a custom recovery mod for it

I'd love to see some custom roms for this device. Galaxy alpha has the same exynos chipset and still has plenty of roms. For the sm-a800f i know there is cm13 and rr but still in alpha stage. I don't think its that we can't port roms for this drvice, but the lack of developer interest for it. I am willing to test any rom for this device, if any developers are interested.

I am no developer. I have no ROM making skills..
However developers don't have the time to do this for us. Plus it is always helpful when a forum has one of these.

To each their own.
Updated to reflect the ROM pages up right now. Thanks all.

Prob gonna have to wait for more devs to get it I imagine. That's usually how it works. 98% of us don't have this phone yet and won't till mid to late next week. Give it a few and I'm sure it'll be here in our forum!

[q] mediatek mt6572

Hello Everyone
could someone tell me what ROM i can use on my Note 3 clone from China?
i have a SM-N900 with mediatek MT6572 processor.
i am hoping LIDROID could work? it seems as a good rom
but i am open to all ROMs that are compatible with this unit.
And please...i am as new as soneone could be...so take it easy on me
would love a step by step instruction on the compatible ROM as well
Thank you all for the good work!!
Original Note 3 ROMs and Custom Note 3 ROMs won't work on it. Have a search of the forum, you'll find numerous threads regarding it.
Don't Flash anything mate .... Unless you want to brick it. Just use it as is while it lasts. ... But everything on these forums are for original devices. ... Try Google and see if there are forums for fake phones. I wouldn't chance it personally. ...

And if you have time, maybe you could help me find a working rom?

Your phone is a fake Note 3 and is not acceptable in samsung note 3 forums - see some more details on the entire subject of fakes here:

While I agree that the lollipop update for YU is delayed you need to see that it is for the users only. They want to give us a bugless update. Would you use a buggy lollipop ROM or one which is bugless. Also Oxygen is is not cm12, it might be lollipop based but both are different. This is not a **** measuring contest. What matters is we get the lollipop update not who gets it first.

[Discussion] [Call for Devs] - Trying to make the Project Treble easier for everybody

As many might know, thanks to Project Treble the work needed to port ROMs has been greatly reduced.
Right now everything is still a bit messy around treble, with people searching in every possible forum (even on ones for other devices) for an image, discussing things not in relation with the topic's original device and just making thing cluttered and hard to find.
We also can see that the great thread put forward by phhusson begins to get the same treatment with people from many devices in the same thread asking device-specific questions (and even questions about devices without Treble-support) when phhusson's initial idea seems to have been to build a base image which could be used / modified for each device. Essentially giving a golden base which only needs small, device-specific, modifications.
Coming back to the title. I want to propose device-specific Treble - Threads. Permitting to let GSI (Generic System Image) threads clutter-free and development oriented, while these type of threads can be used to discuss problems related to specific devices. From what can be seen right now (through the eyes of a non-dev) most of the time only small modifications are needed, which could be managed with a custom kernel or a custom zip containing all fixes.
Hoping to find a way, together, to get Treble even better for us and making work easier for developers.
Feel free to discuss
I agree. Device-specific forums would help with reporting bugs, and finding GSIs for certain devices.
Agreed!
I totally agree, people should acknowledge this and start making a move
Treble development, imho, doesn't need to be branched out for all the specific devices. That's just not it's forte, it's mandate is to be generic, not specific.
Considering some issues may be affecting multiple devices, how about having a distinct support thread, separate from the main development thread, for every GSI?
I feel a threads for every device may be unmanageable, and actually counterproductive once such threads grow.
I've started a Treble Megathread for the Huawei P10 but it's not gaining much traction.
Treble is all well and good but if nobody is actually using it (Phh's RR v3 has only had ~1800 total downloads) then there's going to be very slow progress!
Making treble-enabled devices should just go in the respective device's development subforum that (probably) already exists....

If you cant search a bit in the xda forum or search in the internet... Then I think you wont be able to compile your own rom and fix all the bugs.

So those people that have used it should write a guide on that devices' subforum. There's no need to clutter up the Treble subforum with device-specific things.

It's hard work to make a good rom. It takes much time and you have to know much about Linux / how a kernel works / what libraries do and such things. It isn't something you learn in some days.
Agree! But there is bugs that still didnt fixed by phhusson in aosp. Such as lag when opening app from recents tab (Huawei). Btw its fixed by in Pixel Experience and in Havoc OS but not in the original one ( base rom ) . Treble need some work to be perfect. Remember to old Cyanyogen mod? That one is epic!

When you really think building a rom from source, show what you can. You think it's really sooo easy to fix all the bugs? To get the hardware working?
Developers here on xda need weeks to release a stable build of a rom and you call it easy?
I think you're the clown bro.

[REQUEST] custom ROMs

Since we now have a working "TWRP", it would be great to have a real Custom ROM. Not to degrade xXx and the other Magisk "ROMs" (using xXx now), but TWRP flash-able ROMs would be great.

I scanned the package with viruse and malware software.
Are there any limitations or dangers with that version we should know about? I'd risk it just for the ability to make a solid backup right now.
Can anyone point me in the right direction without breaking XDA policy??

Oh cuz they can't see source. You have no idea what could be loaded in there. Whether it works or not. The point is there COULD be malware or spyware or whatever loaded and you would have no idea

Let me ask you a question. How do you know that normal open-source TWRP doesn't have malware in it?
The reason why 'main devs' as you call them won't accept it, is because of licensing and money. And also embarrassment because they can't figure out how to get a version booting.
The wonderful thing is we can all do what we wish to do. you can use ADB and make your life infinitely harder, and I'll keep using TWRP and accomplish things in a fraction of the time.

There you go again. You're not a developer ... And why do you care if somebody uses something that's making their life easier?
In case you can't tell the 7t pro still doesn't have a working TWRP. 8 whole months later. There's a working TWRP for OnePlus 8 pro right now. why do you care if someone is using it? How is using a Chinese TWRP going to hurt development? It's not. I'm going to share it with each and every person that asks for i. Because we deserve to use something beyond crappy ADB.
Chinese recovery works just fine. I was running custom TWRP recovery by this Chinese locked LR. Team two years ago on my Xiaomi Mi Pad, and nothing wrong happened. You all could wait year or more for official relase as development is going very slow, or enjoy it now.
