Battery Life in FW .152 - Xperia Z5 General

I had the Z2 before buying the Z5. I noticed that the percentage of Z5 battery down much faster than the Z2. I remember had a FW on Z2 that there was this excessive consumption Z2 battery, the Lollipop Bug, and then fixed. This is happening in Z5 too?

probably, but also Z5 has smaller batery: 2900mAh vs 3200mAh in Z2, and stronger CPU.

I noticed that turning off the WiFi while not in use, consumption decreases.
But this processor Z5, despite being more powerful, it is more economical than the Z2 processor, right?

Any comment guys?
It doesn't last long enough.p
3days old Z5.

battery life not so great after all

I have been using the z3 for a week, found out the battery life is not as good as what Sony claims, I dropped from 97% to 92% with staminar mode on during the night for 8hrs. Thats worse then z2. I feels that the battery life is not as good as z2 too. I am always left with 30% when reach home and need to charge everyday... Normal usage without.watching movies.
Z3 screen is much brighter than Z2. You should keep it manual as your need like Z2. If can't your battery will drain faster than normal.
You also should monitor what apps/process kill your battery. I'm happy with Z3 battery. Last year I used Z2 about month before changed to another one.

Have been using manual brightness since day on on both z3 and z2.. Seems z3 is weaker on the battery side

you only complaining about standby battery? what about day to day usage?
There already is a battery life discussion thread here, please use that.

My Z2 Battery Performance good or not ?!!

Hi,
When i purchased my Z2 when i was active STAMINA mode the estimated battery time was gonna be 2 days then after more time and the normal daily usage now gonna be 1 day so is that normal ?!!
Android ver 4.4.2 / 17.1.2.A.0.314 FW
please check the below screen shot and waiting your feedback.
It is normal, if you charge your phone often then it will show you slowly the right time, for me it's showing 1 day and thats right.
Its very good
Not many devices can get as much life as the Z2
Stamina mode isnt good at predicting but it later on aftee some use it will base estimates off your usage

Nope it's about the same, maybe a touch better for me.
4.4.4 has good battery in my opinion and testing
4.4.4 had no effect on battery life.
OP the only devices with better battery life than z2 are the z3 and z3 compact as far as I know.
Your results are normal for a z2.

The stamina estimated time is based on your average use. When you bought your phone, it didn't know yet how you use it and the two days were just a guess. 7 hours of screen on in 20 hours is a heavy use and it is normal that it didn't last two days.
I think it's good.

Safe Mood Issue?
Hi guys, did anyone ever had the problem where you have an issue with your phone f.e. a sudden battery drain issue, and you boot into safe mode to see if it is a third party app that causes the problem, but the rapid battery draining stays even in safe mode! If you had this problem, did you manage to find a solution to what the real culprit could be? Thank u
7hour screen time, what more do you want?

Personal review: Sony Xperia Z3 6603

PERSONAL REVIEW SONY XPERIA Z3 6603
This review was after 2,5 weeks of use. Under very weak 2g signal. I'm a really heavy user but I didn't play any game.
First off I got 2 spots on the screen which are more bright, on white background.
The battey lasted unmodified ca. 5,5 h screen on time. Idle drain is ca. 1% in 2h.
When my phone fell, the plastic on the corner chipped a little, that sucks, it shoulda be aluminum or good plastic, idk.
Overall performance is quite decent on messaging and browsing. I didn't test gaming.
There is almost no lagging at all.
It's possible to root whithout unlocking the bootloader. You can also back up your drm keys like that.
For a custom kernel you need to unlock the bootloader.
After trying the custom kernel androplus kernel v22, and setting it as good as i could (my own settings). I got a improvement of the battery from 2-3 hours screen on time more. Idk if idle drain improved too.
Setting the kernel as good as I knew unfortunately caused random lags out of nowhere, even though the overall performance even increased. (I tried a balanced setting between battery life and performance)
I did not flash any custom aosp roms yet, because the development is still in early stage and for example the loudspeaker is said to not work on aosp.
The camera is impressive, with drm keys and without. Only the selfie camera could've had higher resolution (has 5mp).
After setting the kernel up, I got through a full day with my battery, before almost but not fully.
I hope you enjoyed reading my review.

Battery Life

One of the most important features that I liked about the Xperia range is battery life.I am worried about the initial reviews that the Z5 has average battery life (comparable to the LG G4 ),please post your experience if you alrady have the phone and how it compares to the device it replaces .
Thanks
I charged mine at 6pm last night (UK Time) and haven't charged since and it's on 68% now at 09:23am - This is after a full setup and re-sync of all my stuff.

I don't think that is that good tbh, 32% drain and I presume that included some hours of sleeping also. Battery life concerns is one of the reasons I am waiting for the premium instead.
Talking of battery life and off topic but my mrs got a iphone 6s on friday and after setting the phone up she unplugged the usb from the laptop at 12.28am saturday morning (uk time) at 75% and she has used the phone for various things since then and the battery is still at 75%, 3+ days later its not normal.
I believe in Z5 battery, very good
My battery life doesn't seem great however it does charge really fast. My "opinion" cannot be used as comparison though because I am a heavy user with many apps. I came from the Xperia Z C6603 which I don't think the battery was that bad. Since I've had this I've not managed to do any extensive testing on the actual battery life and am currently using Snapdragon BatteryGuru.

fast charging doesn't really make up for good battery life I had the Z2 then the Z3 and there was a slight drop in battery life (and capacity) I read that the Z3+ had worse battery than the S6 which I currently have and I have to charge overnight and then at 2 pm o make it last a day .
good
good battery
In a day of average use.. Not constant game playing.. What screen on time do people get on a full battery?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
So far unimpressed. I took it off charge at 7am. It's 3pm and I have 33% left. Comparable to LG G4 which was also poor. My old Z3 definitely lasted better. I hope after a few days the battery will settle and improve but I'm not holding out too much hope.
Strange how Sony is decreasing battery life with each new phone! They had an advantage over most phones with the Z2, Z3 was also good but not as good as the Z3.the Z3+ was average and it seems so is the Z5.

Dead after 9 hours with less than 3 hours SOC. Won't be keeping this phone as battery was one of the main reasons I bought it.

The A57's might not be as efficient, so the SD 800/01/05 devices have that advantage. When the A53 cluster is active drain should be better...but it's not clear how expensive (power wise) it is to constantly switch clusters. Also the faster GPU could be partly to blame if it requires more power than the previous generation. When Qual returns to making their own architecture with the 820 it seems like battery is one area that'll benefit.

Since being by my computer and having Pushbullet on I've noticed I've been getting "Verifying theme" notifications from "com.sonymobile.runtimeskinning.core" something or other popping up periodically. They don't show as a notification on my phone and this may suggest why I am getting almost constant wakelocks and appalling battery life. Hrm
On GSMArena Z5 Compact has slightly worse batt life than Z3 Compact (which was outstanding).
It's still great but it's a bit worse.
I assume Z5 will be similar story.
Probably nothing will come close to Z2...
@doministry, Before this thread becomes identical to all other lollipop running phones' battery thread, I'll just paste it here from Z3+ forum.
'Active mobile radio bug' of Lollipop is the main reason why 2015 phones' battery life took a hit. Wifi users won't be affected by this btw. Meantime, few things we could do to improve battery life
1. Always close all apps (from the MT window) before locking screen while you're on mobile data
2. If you're on wifi 24/7, turn off mobile data permanently
3. Use 2.4GHz Wifi instead of 5Gz if possible
4. Make sure 'Screen' is on top of the battery usage list. Otherwise, you got radio active bug or something else that's draining battery. That said, 'cell standby' tops my list occasionally if I don't use it for a long time. It doesn't affect heavy users but Sony needs to work on that for Z3+. Hopefully, it's better on Z5 out of the box.
5. For past Xperia owners, Z5/Z3+ screen is much brighter than Z2's, Z1. If you leave the brightness slider at 'zero' with adaptive brightness on, it's still much brighter than Z2. Stick to lower manual brightness to get Z2 like battery life.
6. Root
Thanks. What I was talking about is rather the endurance the device gives while performing
certain actions.
It's clear from Z3Compact/Z5Compact comparison that 3G Talktime got increased.
The rest got decreased.
Anyway thanks, I use some tricks and my batt life is great.
I think it's irrevealent to compare z5/z5c battery life to their predecessor'one until a few updates from sonymobile have rolled out. As a z5c owner, I can tell you that stock rom is laggy and full of bugs. However I'm impressed how Sony managed the 810 that provides solid performance (except in the UI atm) without overheating. Web-browsing and games are smoother than my z3c. The z5c remains definitely a bit warmer than the z3c, but less than the galaxy s6.

In theory M should be out for the Z5 soon as it's already out on the Nexus
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I do not believe that updates make much difference .I had the Z2 ,Z3 and Z3+ each was a step backwards in terms of battery life .The Z3 was still godd but the Z3+ was worse than the Galaxy S6 with a smaller battery. The last phone I had that lasted a whole day was the Z3 ,if the Z5 is not at least on the same level I will pass.
Also I want a fully functional phone ,I do not want to turn everything off in order to get good battery life.

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Sony Xperia XZ3 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to share with you the screen on time that I had this early morning!
Well, the screenshot #1 to #2 shows how the battery dropped 3% in 6hrs. from 11% at 5:56AM to 8% at 12:16PM. considering the 7hrs and 50min of SOT is AMAZING! (not a heavy user though).. my usage to phone is moderate as you can see in the battery usage info! The battery has improved ever since I changed the lockscreen & home screen wallpaper to totally black! this helps a lot in preserving the battery life especially in an OLED screen!
Nice results. I have XZ2 and Im considering upgrading to XZ3 because of OLED display (with Android 10 and dark theme it should be even more power efficient). Does XZ3 have better battery life compared to your previous XZ2? Thanks

yes, the xz3 screen is more power efficient than the xz2, much sharper and has an immersive details, and the battery life is more durable too. i've tried the android 10 beta version with it's dark theme 3 months ago, and to be honest, even with it's tons of bugs it looked so cool and fits perfectly in an OLED screen. i'm sure you'll be more than happy upgrading to xz3, and you will notice the far difference in camera and screen quality compared to xz2.. also is more powerful. if you can get yourself the 6GB ram dual variant.. slightly faster and better in term of multi-tasking. i know xperia 1 is still so expensive world wide, but who knows maybe you find a good deal so you skip the xz3 and get one for you!
that would be a great upgrade.
those are some screenshots from android 10 i took them when i flashed it in my xz3.
Thank you very much! I appreciate it! Yeah I would like to get Xperia 1 especially because of that wide angle lens but it's 750€ where I live compared to 300€ of XZ3 so I will get Xperia 1 next year when it's price drops I guess ?
I got 6-7 hours. Think it is not good result
