Native wifi hotspot working on 626s 5.1 Virgin Mobile! - Desire 626 General

Well guys I asked about this in the Q/A but I answered it myself. And forgive me if I have posted this in the wrong place I'm new to actually making threads here. So how I did it
1. You must have root.
2. (I'm not sure if this is necessary but it got rid of the "you are not subscribed" message before I actually got it fully working) Go to system-->customize-->ACC--> and edit the default.XML. Find the line that says "<item type="boolean" name="tethering_guard_support">true</item>" change "true" to "false"
3. Download "ISWAT Tether Unlocker" from Google play (I can't post outside links yet)
4. Run that grant root access and enjoy tethering!
Apologies if this is posted here already I searched around and could not find nothing on it. Hope I helped some people!
---UPDATE---
I started getting a "can't connect to wireless data network" error. Probably is VM trying to kill my hot spot. No worries just get a VPN from Google play.

Ya got my native hot-spot to work on boost 626s changing the default.XML but no internet Goethe devices iconnect.

Thats why you have to use the ISWAT thether unlocker. They are blocking something with the DNS server because they know you are tethering. Run that app and everything should work. it won't work if you aren't rooted. If that doesn't work try a free VPN from the play store. That way they can't tell where your data is going, only that you are using it.

Are you able to change the mac address of the hotspot? I know with my last phone it said it was changed but it never changes. Want to do some home pass with my 3ds.

Try this, the last post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/desire-626/development/desire-626s-root-t3249254/page9
It should work, it works for me on VM version

I am upgrading and looking for a phone i can root and get by the hotspot lockdown on my verizon unlimited data, the 626 is available and cheap, do you know if the new shipped 626s are able to be rooted? thanks
If so can you please give me a step by step rundown on how to get the tether bypass working? I clicked the link you posted above and that post wasn't very clear somebody mentioned a used step 3 of something I don't quite understand what they're talking about
Thanks

I can confirm that the latest wifi tether router app (version 6.1.4 ) works with my Sprint prepaid rooted Desire 626s. The only setting I changed is "Method" to 3.

[Nandroid] Mobile Network Sharing 2.1

I'm using DC v1 right now and there is no MNS (Mobile Network Sharing) as of now, so I have made a nand img for you all of the last rom that I used that had MNS working 100%.
I use this ONLY when I need to tether... which is often lol because I live on campus at the University of Miami.
I flashed Flipz's 2.1 v1.8-7 Eclair (which has working MNS) that I had lying around.
Stripped it for JUST tethering, got rid of Sprint crap & the works.
Includes,
Wireless Tether
&
NetCounter. Since there is no display on how much data/wifi you are using, NetCounter is a *free* program on the market that will tell you.
THIS IS A NANDROID IMAGE. DO NOT FLASH AS A .ZIP!!!!!
I am not responsible if this screws anything up. I just posted my nand image.
UNZIP FILE AND PUT FOLDER "2.1_Eclair_Tether" ON YOU SDCARD UNDER:
nandroid > Your serial # >
THEN APPLY LIKE A NORMAL NAND RESTORE.
I have never shared a Nandriod image before, so not even sure if it will work. I DID NOT sign into anything after flashing (google, market, gmail, facebook...) so it is completely stock.
Anyone willing to try this nand restore?
Just trying to help out those who miss MNS.
Also, post your results, would like to know if sharing nandroid backups could be convenient.

Well then...
For everyone using DC and doesn't want to switch to DarchLegend, not that it's bad, just not wanting to make a big switch.
Ok, well if no one wants to try....
I have a question: Is it even possible to share unlinked Nandroid images from phone to phone?? that's sort of why this is here too, to figure that out.

I flashed an old Nandroid backup onto a replacement phone (different serial, obviously) and it worked fine. Only thing that I had to do afterwards was clear the cache on Gmail for some reason, though I don't think it was related to flashing between different phones since others in the forums have reported the same issue.
Oh...and I'm using EasyTether Lite that I'd downloaded from the market a while back. Works great. I hear that the latest version has some additional limitations though...such as no https sites.
I'm using DC 2.1 and my MNS works fine.
Start up wireless tether, connect with laptop or whatever, disable mobile network, enable mobile network, wireless tether works perfect.
Its a bug, but that is the fix. Only need to do it once I believe.

I'm positive now it was in my MSL thread. I wanted my MSL to change my SIC to 0, and somebody posted how to get it with CDMA workshop etc, well it just went poof, but a sprint employee here at xda helped me get my MSL (Thanks again!), but they were arguing why somebody needed an MSL, and somebody posted about how he used it blah blah fixed tethering.

I'm anxious to see this too. I remember working on my Hero back when tethering on 1.5 discussions were happening, and really the only thing you could do in the CDMA Workshop (I think that's the name of it) was change your email address used as your id to the network from the one that's using PAM to mimic what was being sent during normal data usage. I think in the PAM communication was set blank, and the normal one was set to your id. It didn't work at all actually. It seemed that something else was built into the Android/Sprint stuff in Android that made that impossible. This is basically what you did, albeit through WindowsMobile's registry, to accomplish the same result in windows mobile.
I think in this instance, it's the other way around. Meaning that we have to get around it from a software standpoint so that it doesn't access the Sprint validation to determine whether to use PAM (Phone as Modem) line or normal line (even though it's just an id.)
This is what MNS accomplishes, it gets around that by appearing as normal data, and doesn't cause our Hero to throw error 67 data failure messages.
I may be completely off, but sounds feasible right?

[Q] No Internet Sharing after traveling

So, I have a Verizon Wireless Trophy. I was thrilled to finally be able to use Internet Sharing, and I had it working fine. Then I travelled internationally and was using my Trophy on another carrier with a local SIM card. After returning home, I am no longer able to use Internet Sharing. As soon as I try to enable it, I get this error: Connection not shared - There's no cellular data connection to share right now. Check your cellular settings and signal, and try again. Yet my data connection is working fine. My guess is that the Connection Setup app messed something up?
I did contact HTC support, they basically said that they are aware of the issue but have no further information to give me.
Anyone else experience this? Any workarounds?
Many thanks,
I. Kinal

Are you using it on Verizon Wireless? If so, you need to have an official Internet Sharing package, or read my first post in my custom rom for instructions on bypassing it. This works even with the official SparkW (VZW) Trophy rom.
I'm assuming you are using the stock rom.
Yes, I am on Verizon with a Share Everything plan - like I said, everything was working fine before I left the US.

Yeah, just try the PST modification. It's easy to do and it should make wifi hot spot work, assuming you have a data connection. I too, used to be able to use tethering with or without the dun mod, but since Verizon added the internet sharing package to their website, I must do the bypass.
Unfortunately, that did not work - had no effect.
I should add that that trick is how I got Internet Sharing working in the first place, despite the fact that I have a Share Everything plan.

Are you running Tango update (OS Version 8773)? If you used interop unlock to enable it in Mango v1, then the newest driver changes the method in which it works (I doubt you used interop unlock to enable it at all).
Do you have any data access on the phone at all? Can you load websites? If you can't, you need to open up Connection Setup and re-select Verizon Wireless even if you've already done it once, and that should reset the data connection (conversely, if you have data and select it, data will disappear).
Yes, my OS Version is 8773.
This phone has never been interop unlocked.
Data works just fine.

Same issue with me - Internet Sharing worked fine, but after using SIM card with international operator and trying to use Internet Sharing on Verizon I get the same message: "Connection not shared - There's no cellular data connection to share right now. Check your cellular settings and signal, and try again." Data service works fine by itself but not ICS. Any solutions?

Questions About WiFi Tethering With The G2

I have the opportunity to buy a Sprint LG G2 but would like some input from this community about the WiFi tethering capabilities of this device. I currently have an LG OG and there are issues with the WiFi tethering on it but I also have an LG Nexus 5 that runs WiFi thethering flawlessly. Since this device is said to be similar to the Nexus 5 I was hoping the Wifi tethering worked well on it also. I use FoxFi WiFi tethering app on most of my devices. It does not work on the LG OG however. I just basically want to know which tethering app works and which one doesn't.
THANKS!!
Sprint completely blocks all tethering access. Even through foxfi and open garden etc. You have to pay for the tethering service. The mobile data is indeed truly unlimited but the catch is its LIMITED to there mobile. As far as I know there is no way around it unless you root the device your wanting to tether but I'm not even positive that will work.

Thanks for your reply but apps like FoxFi allow you to tether without being detected for tethering. You still are deducted for data usage but not tethering. I was mainly asking if tethering apps work on this device because the one I'm getting is on Boost mobile, its not 4G but their 3G is good and for the price its actually great. So, if someone with this device that is rooted would kindly install Foxfi and tell me if it allows you to tether it to your PC I would appreciate it very much....Thanks..
Right I tried it on a unrooted Sprint g2 and I couldn't find ANY workarounds at all. That's what my input was on so yea. Someone else will chime in for you your welcome.
In order to get tethering working on the G2 for Sprint you must be rooted. Instructions are in the sprint develolment forum. Tethering apps do not work. The method is to modify the stock tethering app. Its the only current method available.

I know how to root this device and understand that it needs to be rooted to use wifi tether to make it work. I had a feeling this device had the same problem as the LG OG on tethering....I have TrevE's WiFi Tether on my OG and though I can get internet connection and download regular files, for some reason I can't download torrents and I've tried every setting combination possible. I was hoping this device had the same system as the Nexus 5 and not the OG..
Its titled "native hotspot" cant post links right now. short on time. As far as torrents go all sprint has to do is block torrent sites, and ip addresses associated. If you have tethering and cant do torrents... its likely blocked on sprint's side. Btw, downloading torrents via mobile data is a bad idea and I strongly advise you dont do so for many reasons.

Thanks, I'll try to find the post...I've used wifi tethering on a few different Boost Service (sprint) phones with no problems what so ever....if I used FoxFi Tethering App. I can usb tether using PDAnet and it will work but most of the time I need to be able to use WiFi.
May I ask exactly what your concerns are about downloading torrents via mobile data? I've done it for a couple years now without any problems...
Update: I looked it up and it looks good except that I won't be able to update the Rom at this time...
I dont have concerns about torrents, but you should. Frankly, if you dont know why or havent researched it, Im not one to tell you. Good luck.

Well, I appreciate all your input anyway....I just have to believe there is someone on this forum that has their device flashed to Boost that knows what I am talking about.
I do know what you are talking about. I have a G2. Ive used pdanet and alot of other tethering apps. The thread I pointed you to is the only way to tether on the G2 right now on Sprint, period. There are no other known mods or.apps for tethering on the G2. If that mod will work on Boost I have no idea and I assume there are very few that have a g2 on Boost, if anyone does.

I didn't mean to make it sound like I was saying you didn't know what you were talking about, I apologize if it sounded as if I did. I was just hoping someone here had theirs on Boost and was familiar with how tethering worked on it. From what I can tell reading that thread and the thread on the Rom you have to have for the tethering mod, its pretty stable and the features are good too. I have been trying to figure out what to do because I have the opportunity to get a G2 or HTC One for the same price and am having a hard time making up my mind on which one will work the best for me. I prefer the G2 for its hardware but the development is better on the One. I really appreciate your help though, as I have said before....

Unlimited Tether on T-mobile ( must have unlmited data )

Hey guys. This is my first thread. I hope I'm doing everything correct here. This is for T-mobile and I'm not sure if it works on any other carrier. As the title says I've found a way, looking at other forums, to figure out how to get unlimited tether as long as you have unlimited data. I Don't believe you have to have root either. I made a new apn matching the one t-mobile comes with except i changed the apn protocols to IPv4. Then saved it and made it my new default atleast for tethering. After that I installed foxfi. I already had the paid version so I just downloaded the key and the main app. I then turned on foxfi and it also opened up the default hotspot app. I believe the free version has data cap. Not sure about that. Anyways after using for several hours on games like clash of clans, watching videos on youtube, and downloading apps my hotspot data hasnt moved and still says legal tethering. I searched for tether already and didnt see anything in this section of forums. So with all that said I hope this helps someone.

yes this works but you forgot one thing
i have been doing this for 6 months now and i have used over 100 gb in tethering each month using the foxfi paid version once you have the paid version for foxfi you must download the add on name proxy then enable it and thats all it will hide your wifi tether output and tmobile will think your just using regular internet since i been doing this i have cancelled my internet service through comcast ...if anyone like i will post a pic of my stats and show how much tether i have used this month
thanks

There are only 2. The main app and the add on which the previous poster had said. I however quit using it and went to wifi tether router. Not as good in my opinion but it works. Something became broken for me on foxfi. Would start it up and then shut down and occasionally it would use my real tethering data. So i quit using it.

Yes At&t......I will need root then because I'm unlimited data....This sucks......If I want to use my data by tethering, I should be able too. This is dumb
In the same boat with Verizon on unlimited. Foxfi works, but only via USB (cable connected) or Bluetooth (slow ~1 Mbps). I love this phone, but miss being able to use the Hotspot for the rare times I need it.
I believe there is a beta feature on the pdanet USB client on the PC side that will allow a hotspot generated from the computer attached via USB. Clunky but better than nothing if you have other devices that need access to the connection in a stationary setting for now.

I'm really looking forward to a solution for this. I've been holding on to my old S5 since I haven't been able to find a newer removable-battery phone that allows for rooted hotspot usage on the old grandfathered unlimited plan :/
Now that we have root, I wonder how we can enable this?
I use to just change a couple of numbers in buildProp on other phones (Rom Toolbox .prop)
Any help would be appreciated
EDIT:
Found the below info but I don't think it will work. I DID NOT try this but it is tempting.
4. Connect your phone to your PC and issue the below commands:
adb shell
echo "net.tethering.noprovisioning=true" >> /system/build.prop
adb reboot

Now that we have root, I wonder how we can enable this?
I use to just change a couple of numbers in buildProp on other phones (Rom Toolbox .prop)
Any help would be appreciated

Yeah I'm not entirely sure how we might be able to get it to work. I've tried adding dun to the APN - edited the build.prop and added the lines you put above into the build.prop file. Those worked to no avail.
I edited the line inside build.prop "ro.build.target_operator=ATT". I changed ATT to "OPEN", and that did happen to allow tethering. But from the devices I connected to my phone - they were unable to connect to the internet. It was almost like ATT was blocking service of tethering. I didn't try to do all of those edits at the same time though. Perhaps maybe then?

Yeah I tried using all three of those methods - but it seems like only the method of turning the ro.build.target_operator to OPEN avoids the "Authorizing" screen and lets the Tethering turn on. But while the phone is still able to access the internet, the other devices cannot access the internet - having DNS issues.
I'm curious if perhaps the "system/app/Entitlementcheck-" app retrieves a token to allow other devices to connect, and using "OPEN" makes it so the entitlementcheck application is not even used. Not sure entirely how it works. I've seen in other device sections, such as the Pixel, where someone edited the phone's own entitlementcheck app equivalent to let them use tethering (here). Not sure if it would be possible to something similar here.

Wow...Sounds a little harder than it use to be. Nice digging man, sounds like your on the right trail that's for sure. I'm also sure with time someone (or you) might figure something out. Until then, I'm using PDAnet with cord. Better than nothing for the office PC

I have the US996 unlocked version my build.prop ro.build.target_operator=NAO I have hotspot so i decided to change it to ATT because im using att i wanted the att signal icon I did get the att signal icon however i noticed my tethering option was gone so i changed it back to NAO instead of ATT
I am on sprint. And i rooted my v20 phone. I am on unlimited also. But sprint gives me 5gb tether for free on my plan. Then they slow you down. The built in tether did not work after root. So i had bought a app called Wi-Fi tether router. And it works.
Re: Work around
Were you able to find a way to root the LG V20 or find a way to get around the tethering and hotspot block/ authorization??? Please Help !! I have no idea how to root but I heard there is a minor root I can do but not sure how to do it and DEF dont want to mess my phone up.... Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

I just did this and you solved one of my pet peeves but not my tethering issues.
The phones still connect to my phone however they have no internet while tethering.
What you did solve is (by changing the prop to NAO vs ATT) is removing the annoying carrier name on the left side of the screen and also removed the annoyingly large ATNT 4G symbol. Instead its a neatly placed, small 4glte icon.
This issue is still persisting even after changing the tether enforcement to 0 from 5 in the system xml
