Please let me know if you are able to root it. I am wondering if other universal rooting methods work with this phone.

Everything worked fine, you don`t need wondering...it`s Chainfire who developes here! Schould work on all phones (inkluding A VErsion) from Android Lolliopop and higher!

Trust me, I've done it without root. I had xposed installed before with root then I flashed the latest stock rom from n915w8 and flashed xposed right after without wiping data and it worked. I guess it was because the xposed modules were already configured but ultimately, I did not root in order to use xposed. The functionality of xposed is increased if you root. This is from my experience
The latest xposed for Samsung probably has some loop hole I'm unaware of that allows you to install it without root.

the boot-loader is not unlocked for n915a currently, how can we install twrp? or you mean install supersu by odin without twrp?

step 2... Install latest twrp... How can you do that if your phone has never been rooted before?

for my note edge sprint (915p) i used CWM cos twrp didnt work. after flashing supersu said i dont have root access and if i would like to have it. I SELECTED NO. after rebooting once phone booted fine. took a while for supersu to take over things and now its all good

Do you by any chance have the latest twrp (2.8.0.7) in .tar file? I've been lurking around for a while now and I'm not able to find it. I can only find .img and I need Linux to convert it to .tar to be able to Odin. I've lost root and now I can't get it back.

ok now that ive spent more time with it i believe the root i got is incomplete. on many apps supersu dialogue doesnt pop and they dont recognize the phone as rooted. i used titanium backup to try and remove system apps and despite everything going fine the apps didnt go anywhere
UPDATE: problem fixed. I edited the build.prop in /system/ using a build.prop editor and now all my apps are asking for root
In build.prop look for ro.securestorage.support=True and set it to False
Also solves if your phone keeps forgetting the wifi passwords

It works. SM-915F. Just don't forget to off 'reactivation lock' in security tab in androud in order to install TWRP successfuly. Thanks a lot!

No you're right. Twrp is in img format but you can easily convert it to tar using a linux emulator. Took me minutes to convert it to tar. Google "how to convert img to tar. Running twrp fine

Does it work in 915V ??

So,it's strange how the method works on my 915f. For example; Titanium Backup can't remove systems apps. It looks like I have a root, but not fully operated. Any advices?

Does this still trip the knox counter?
I want to root, but I must keep my warranty as this N915F is on my company's name.

Doing a system-less root on s4 using magisk possible?

alright im thinking of doing system-less root with xposed using magisk (yes im a pokemon goer thats ticked off from its new update) just wanting to know what would be the best way to go about this. If it is possible. currently im running GoldenEYE rom android 5.0.1 dont have fastboot so i already know i have alot of work in Odin to do. would love to have CM12.1 running with a systemless root but last time i tried to even get CM12.1 loaded it never worked.
So anyidea if this is possible or not. (yes i do have stock roms at the ready from when i put on my current rom along with root methods)
You don't have to do anything in Odin.
All you need is TWRP.
Then follow the Magisk instructions.
Unroot, uninstall Xposed (if present), flash Magisk zip, flash phh root zip, download phh superuser app and Magisk manager app.
well that sucked. now have the dreaded unauthorized soft ware. found a way around it to get phone booted. going into download mode then cancel out restarting phone from there.
So I tried this exact thing two days ago because I have an S4 with the Goldeneye rom installed, and unfortunately got these results
I opened up superSU and did a full unroot, after
I deleted the xposed that was installed (v86 by dlc) using the uninstaller through TWRP.
Next I flashed magisk v6 zip along with the phh superuser zip, and ended up in a bootloop..
The phone wouldnt pass the boot animation, so i uninstalled magisk, and reflashed superSU
On my end its not working, mate.

As far as I know, systemless stuff works only on Android 6 and above.
Goldeneye is a TouchWiz ROM, therefor it's android 5.
Magisk works on Touchwiz 5.0
Magisk works on android 5.0 touchwiz. Im using lenny bard stock HPG1 rom and PoGo works perfectly
Sure you can do it. i have gt-i9500 variant with 5.1.1 port tw android. magisk work when i want to play pokemon go. the only problem i have now is the systemless xposed not working as expected.
I am under the impression I am not able to get TWRP on mine because its the later version with locked bootloader.. what options are there.. Currently Download Graded to 4.4.4 to use towel root and installed Flashfire so i can install Safestrap
Really want to use Magisk

Root not sticking! Need professional help.

Good evening ladys and gentlemen,
hoping you can help me with my root-not staying-problem.
I have the A2017G B09 version. I already managed to unlock my device and I had root with xposed installed.
Sounds good so far, right?
Well my problem is that after the restart that is needed to activate my xposed modules, my root went away and I couldn't get it back. After that I tried to do it again but root wouln't stick no matter what.
And yes, I did use the "reboot disemmcwp" command.
I tried to root by flashing the newest chainfire supersu 2.79, since I have newest twrp 3.0.3-1.
It would be great if you would be able to help me on my journey and maybe explain to me the difference between systemless and normal, and what magisk is since I saw that op up a few times.
Oh and please tell me from where I should start if I want to work on everything android related (roms, kernel, apps) since my semsester is nearing its end.
Thanks in advance.
Systemless root means that the /system partition is not modified, however the boot image is altered. There is much hype on this, however there still are many mods out there requiring modifications of /system. I personally do not see any advantage of it, probably because I have been using custom ROMs for years, and custom ROMs has many alterations to the /system compared to stock or pure CM or AOSP roms. However it is clear that the future goes that way and eventually most of the mods will be systemless. The advantage is that you will supposedly be able to flash OTA upgrades, however if the OTA is also modifying the boot partition, then it doesn't matter, you will not be able to flash the OTA upgrade. So the benefits of systemless mods are arguable.
Magisk is an open root. it is systemless from the beginning and any module under Magisk framework will be systemless. So far no official Magisk release (latest at this time is v10.2) is compatible with the Axon stock ROM. However, the latest v10.3-beta2 seems to fix the root injection problem. It is included in the Bad Boyz custom ROM.
There are some apps not working on root devices. They use a SafetyNet procedure to check for that, such as Android Pay or Pokemon Go. However there are ways to overcome this security check and you can enjoy root and SafetyNet compatibility either using SuperSU or Magisk, system or systemless root. the issue becomes a little tricky when adding Xposed mod framework to the mix, since the procedures to have all 3 (root, SafetyNet and Xposed) working is not that straightforward. However this is possible in the Axon 7. You can find one of my guides in the links in my signature.
Enjoy!!!!
Thanks for the info. I actually used your guide but nothing came out of it. I got stuck on the Axon screen. Tried it multiple times. Guess I'll try again either after the N update or when I get impatient.
Try reflashing supersu don't reboot, then use terminal in TWRP to do reboot disemmcwp and see if it works. I usually use root Explorer to see if I can change /system to r/w. If it did not work go back to terminal in TWRP and try again. I have had to do it a few times to get it to work. Using adb terminal seems to work first time, terminal apps have not worked for me.

If you tried my guide, then you must use ROM B29 or any other ROM based on B29. I am afraid that the patch is only compatible with B27 or B29 based kernels.

You can flash directly the BootStack for your version of Axon 7 and the B29 ROM (or any other custom ROM) using TWRP. You can get those files from https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/rom-guide-updates-to-stock-files-via-t3469484

Lost root after flashing 4.1.6, Please help.

Hi, Can someone please help, I must have done something wrong. Flashed official 4.1.6 update through twrp successfully, but lost root, tried to flash super su again (ver 2.86), but got stuck in boot, logo froze.
Flashed 4.1.6 again, phone works but no root still.
Is that a wrong super su version or did I do something else wrong?
Help will be really appreciated.
Regards
After flashing a full update you'll always have to reflash your root solution. I guess you mean SuperSU v2.82...
Use the official 2.82, found here (there's a link to the flashable zip). There's also a link to a version to try if you're experiencing bootloops.
You could also try the release candidate, found here.
Magisk all the way
1. Wipe data
2. Flash ROM
3. Flash root package, either SuperSU or Magisk
4. Reboot
I see no reason why wouldn't this work for you

I think, I was not able to explain, Rom is already there, but I just flashed 4.1.6 update, and root was gone.
Just wanna avoid all those data backup, restore, register all new banking apps etc, it time consuming and painful.
I am pretty sure, root can be restored, when I have an unlocked bootloader, twrp recovery working properly.
SuperSU is still there in apps but can't open as says, root not available. However, can uninstall this if that is required.
Cheers

[Q] Successful rooted, but /system is read only?

Hi guys, I have successfully rooted using temporary TWRP + modded magisk method, but now I gain root and checked via Root checker. But the problem is most of the root functions don't work as /system is read-only. Any idea?
Ya i have an idea.. Happened to me as well. I tried almoat everything but system won't be accessible anywhere.. I followed the same tutorial and installed magisk 13.4.
The only solution i could find was flash the latest factory image, and root again using supersu. I used the AIO tool by ghpranav and have got my phone rooted with xposed working without any issues.

You need flash back stock boot image first, due to some limitations you can't have TWRP and SuperSU root at the same time. If you don't have the stock boot image. I suggest download the ROM from MIUI and then flash it. You can choose "flash_all_except_storage" option, this will keep your data.
http://en.miui.com/download-333.html
After flashing. Reboot back to fastboot and then:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
After that just run root.bat from the cf-auto root folder you downloaded and wait for it to automatically reboot your phone. You should have root now, if you wish you can download SuperSU from the store.

I actually tried before, and I tell you the results:
Option 1 TWRP installed + Rooted with Magisk
= Pretty much useless as /system is read-only. Every root app doesn't function, unless it is system-less. But system-less modules nearly all doesn't work as the Magisk version too old. And this method won't trip safetynet
Option 2 no TWRP + Rooted with SuperSU (cf-root method) -- Currently using this state
= Got proper root access, Xposed works but will trip safetynet
Option 3 TWRP installed + Rooted with SuperSU (cf-root method)
= Don't try this, will cause your phone stuck in boot loop

No, it will cause your phone stuck it boot loop if you try to flash the SuperSU zip directly from the official ChainFire site. I think probably is the AB partitioning problem or some sort (unsure). As I said you need to run CF-Auto root to get proper root access, otherwise flashing Magisk through TWRP will makes most of the root apps does not work properly unless it also uses system-less root function.

No if you want proper root with CF-auto root you must not have TWRP installed. You either choose TWRP + Magisk (non-working root) or no TWRP but with SuperSU (working root, Xposed works too).

[ROOT] Root S4 mini I9192 in 2018/19

Method 1:- PC NEEDED
note:- bootloader of s4 mini i9192 is unlocked by default. So dont need to search how to unlockbootloader and stuff.....
You need to download TWRP from xda i.e., from here and flash it with odin...
note:- You have to pull the battery as soon as the phone vibrates after flashing recovery....
ITs time to flash supersu from recovery...
Users can flash SuperSU by Chainfre or Superuser by clockworkmod(attached below)
or Magisk
note:- magisk does not supports less than 5.0 versions of android....
Method 2:- Patch the stock boot.img with Magisk app by following instructions from here and flash it with odin and install Magisk app...
Note:- Magisk v22.1 is the last version to support Android 4.4.2 while Magisk v18.1 is the initial version.
Method 3:- Go and install KINGOROOT....
and root your device..
To move to SuperSu:- after that Using Flashify/Rashr/RootEssentials apps go and flash the .img file of recovery, uninstall kingoroot and flash supersu from recovery IF YOU WANT SuperSu
Method 4:- Go and install KINGROOT....
it fails...dont worry try for atleast five times..
Now your device is rooted....
Method 5:- Go and install Kingoroot pc version in your pc and follow the instructions and root.....
Method 6:- Download and flash the pre-rooted firmware from here in odin.....
Method 7:- If your device is I9192DDUCOF2 then Download cf-auto root from https://desktop.firmware.mobi/device:1182/firmware:8317 then flash it with odin
