[DISCUSSION] Android Marshmallow 6.0 on Galaxy Tab 2 - Galaxy Tab 2 General

"FINALLY WE GET IT!"
Old post here
Since there are too many request to all developers about releasing or not a 6.0 custom ROM, I will start this thread on which we can talk about porting 6.0 and problem that there could be.
I'll post here all news if there will be, AND PLEASE DON'T ASK INCESSANTLY FOR ETAs
@CCD booted a build of Candy6 and that there is some work to do yet, but for now he didn't have much time.

@Android-Andi and @Ziyan booted already a build of 6.0, but there are many work at kernel level due to the use of Samsung kernel sources full of bloatware. Probably will need more work to get a good stability (remember that Tab2 is an old medium device), but many users asked him incessantly ETAs, something annoying and unnerving [emoji53]
So probably we have to wait a bit, if you have something to say, please don't mess other developent thread and don't pm continuously, but ask here (nothing prevents you from trying to build a test version however)
Finally the first builds of Marshmallow are out:
CM13:
Thanks to @Android-Andi and @Ziyan
Bugs:
- Keyboard FC fixed in 30-01 build
- Call doesn't work fixed
- Issues with SDcard mounting fixed in 30-01 build
The ROM is almost stable and ready for daily driver, it can be some lags due to very old hardware (Tab is from 2012 eheheh) but overall is a lot better than stock and very usable, thanks also to 908 MB of ram
- Galaxy Tab 2 7"
- Galaxy Tab 2 10"
Obviusly you have to wipe system, cache and data before install, reboot to recovery once and install rom and GApps
crDroid 6.0:
Thanks to @jejecule
Bugs:
- Keyboard FC (flash fix below)
- Call doesn't work (only 3g variant)
Links:
- Tab 2 7"
Same here, before flash you have to wipe system, cache, then reboot recovery once and flash ROM, Gapps and the keyboard
CandySix:
Thanks to @CCD
Bugs:
- Overclock to 1350 Mhz cause freeze and random reboot
Threads:
Tab 2 7"

Nah, it was booting one week after google published M source, lol. Thx to @Ziyan who got it first booting.
Why there's no build yet? Because some spammer are really going on our nervs - people don't stop silly pms asking for M, M, M, M, M....
Anything besides? Yes, we are working on a new kernel. We spend many hours each day on it but there's nothing that needs public testing yet.
Be patient and M will be out for tab 2 soon or later, if stupid PMs don't stop there's no future (at least i am not willing to do anything public in future).

I found a forum somewhere in xda about porting diffrent roms. Its just copy and paste a few files? Any reason why that wouldn't work for this?

Cool stuff man! Thanks and good luck.

Humm, I don´t think is too simple, but post the link please.

It's somewhere. Maybe someone who's good at finding dead bodies? I looked and cannot find it

Isn't so simple because you can't boot a 6.0 ROM on stock kernel nor cm12.1 kernel or however you can't pretend that everything works, due to the huge modification that you have to do to the kernel to make compatible with other version. It's an hard work of principally coding and not a copy/paste (too simple lol) and request a bit of base experience. Nobody say you that you can't learn, but don't start thinking it's a copy/paste work

[4.2.2 ROM][PORT]AndromadusMod for U8800-51 V2 .35 kernel

I'm very happy to present my port to our phone, a cm10.1 for the -51, ported from Desire S. This is a "new" release, don't expect a perfect rom with all working!.
What IS Andromadus?
Initially it was a group of people who got together to make ICS work on the HTC Desire Z because nobody else seemed to want to support devices with physical hardware keyboards/trackpads. Whilst the idea stays the same It has grown slightly to support some other hardware and some of the work we have done is now used in many other devices. Andromadus builds of CM10 or CM10.1 are basically CM sources with a few additional tweaks or additions to support our phones.
1. New versions will be added as and when I feel there are enough changes to warrant one, don’t ask when the next version is coming.
2. If we decide to release a "Stable" version of these roms they will be published in another Andromadus thread.
Direct all your queries with release versions to that thread and in the same vain do not discuss these releases anywhere but here.
3. I will do as best I can to answer questions but if you don't get an answer from me I'm sure somebody else will be along to help. Help each other and I have more time to spend fixing things!
4. Don't ask for what's changed since the previous version, have a look at the recent submits on the Andromadus github if you want to know or wait for the mini changelogs when I post a new release.
5. If there is something in particular to test it'll be mentioned!
6. As always if you didn't wipe between installations then at least verify that the problem exists on a clean install before posting here. Nandroid/superwipe/install/check at the end of the day you can always restore your nandroid if the problem is reproducible on a clean installation. If you can't be bothered to try this then I really can't be bothered to try to help you :>
7. All that said ensure you make a nandroid/backup before hand. I take no responsibility for what you do to your phone with these ROM.
8. Whilst I can't stop you I would rather these builds were not used as a base for any ROM/MOD/ETC. The source is all available if you want to do your own builds with which you can do whatever you like.
9. Tell us what works/what's worse/what's better but don't ***** when something breaks or isn't fixed yet, report it and move on.
10. Sometimes people forget that we do this for fun, for ourselves, and sometimes your super important issue is way down on our personal list of things to be fixed.

This is great news for -51 users.Ima say thanks too
just a qwestion. How did you port the GB kernel to work on 4.2.2? I wanna learn it too. like how to make GB kernel work on JB or so. So that for KLP or so we wont have to depend on shendu to port a kernel and i can make a full rom port from Incredibe S. So Yeah. thanks again awesome Job.
Sigh. Symlinks. Its a bad update binary. How did you install it? GB -> what?
Sent from my u8800-51.
Awesome now -51 can have 4.2.2 too and it looks promising! One thing, just like rittik asked how did you get .35 kernel to work on 4.2.2? It can be really useful because .32 and .35 kernels give the best performance and in my opinion better than 3.0.8

Maybe this is stupid but never tried ICS based rom's (except Aurora) because I don't understand what unlock pink screen means and was afraid of not being able to return to ginger from a Roadkil's Disk Image backup. My point is, after flashing AndromadusMod, is it possible going back to ginger/froyo by restoring a Roadkil image? Or at least could you explain what to do if something goes wrong?
Ps. Sorry for my noobyness

Status UPDATE!!!! BIG
Progress
As many of you folks know, few weeks ago me and @eagleeyetom announced that work on CM for huashan is in progress. Our initial thoughts were that this process won’t be so difficult as the device is quite similar to devices like the Xperia T/V, which have great support on XDA and the community as a whole. The device is a mixture of Xperia Z & Xperia T
We started to make a tree and made it buildable, but then problems started to appear. We needed a kernel, badly, as the stock one wasn’t prepared to be used with CAF (Code Aurora Forum, a Qualcomm website for kernels, framework and general Android + Linux sources) and CyanogenMod’s graphical drivers. I initially once got CM to boot by making a LEGO build which was a hacked up version of the source and definitely not releasable by any means. Luckily Adam Farden (known as @adfad666) bought a device and helped us to make a bootable kernel. Finally, about a week ago - I got the device to boot so I decided to post here on this thread...
The initial builds were extremely buggy and the only working thing was bluetooth, so I asked Kali- from FXP to help us a bit and with his help, CM 10.1 is 95% ready for use. The only thing bugged right now is FM Radio, but it’s not necessary to have a fully working ROM and we will fix it soon....
In the next few days we will work on 4.3 as it shouldn’t be too hard from this
The kernel that we have, is a temporary solution, as we all know that Sony will release the 4.3 update soon with proper kernel and updated blobs to fix issues with camera, WiFi etc instead of some hacks...
I want to thank @Kali- for his great help, @CallMeVentus for wasting spending 3 days of his life committing CAF related things to Sony kernel and all people involved in the project @CallMeVentus we love you and thanks for your efforts even though we are not using it anymore).
Our trees will be merged with FXP, so expect the thread in the near future from them . I had a talk with some CM people this morning. PLEASE DO NOT POST THREADS FOR BUILDS NOW
From Australia with love,
Brin

Even though we <3 (love) open source and forks we just ask is that you don't release it(the rom) as the kernel is very only temporary as Sony haven't released 4.3 yet.
We can't stop you of course but we'd just rather if you didn't YET..
Feel free to do it in a few days. I'll post here with news very soon.
I am in talks with FXP/CyanogenMod so you may see it pop up on the official repos soon but as you know CyanogenMod doesn't announce support before a device is ready and in the repos so don't bug/annoy/spam our friends upstream at CM ..
Don't build a ROM based upon a not ready source.
We don't want bricks or people not following instructions on random threads.
We unlocked this thread to explain how far we had got.
I am building 4.3 currently and using 4.2.2 as a daily driver..
Expect it very very very soon .
You guys should all be very very thankful for Kali- and adfad666 as the project wouldn't be as far as it is without them.
Thread cleaned.
Please keep your discussions on topic guys.
And BTW, the topic is neither AOKP nor AOSPA nor Slim nor anything else. It's about Building CM for the XSP from scratch

Look I would help but I don't have a device (Xperia L) to develop on.
I can probably help to a extent via Google talk or something but I can't guarantee anything though.
Get one of the developers on that forum to send me a PM.
Anyway I found this link

adfad666 and I are working on CM10.2 now.
Booting 4.3
Xperia SP is booting CM10.2 aswell. @adfad666 (Adam Farden) did a lot of work (I helped out a little bit) to get it to boot while I was sleeping/debugging FM radio/complaining about my terrible internet speed....

I am currently debugging the FM Radio error.
It's coming guys.
Enjoy.

Forget 4.4 Kitkat are we ever going to get official 4.3

Today on XDA I came to that Sony Xperia M is receiving Android official 4.3
http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...-xperia-m-dual-now-also-receives-android-4-3/
The Hardware of Xperia & Grand are almost similar yet Sony is providing update to their users whereas we can only hope that Samsung might release update for us.

If Samsung continue to left behind previous models and promote advance version the Brand value of Samsung will be under serious threat as there are many more OEMs with better support system.
Grand is last handset from Samsung for me.

I have used 4.4 on my old s2 as cm11 and trust me I found nothing xtra except for ext sd problems and fuse daemon bug .

Its not the update that worries me, its the lack of support from Samsung.
As far the features of 4.4 are concerned, its always good to have latest OS.
I am also on Stock 4.2.2 bcoz I dont want some Costume Rom with Bugs.

Mt6589 devices have a ported version of 4.2.2. Not the stock firmware. We have 4.2.2 in Stock os. Also we have kitkat developed in roms. Mt6589 devices have no development progress. Also mediatek doesn't release their sources. On the other hand, Broadcom does.
I am also happy with my phablet, until there is rom progress and we get latest versions of android through roms. I don't care about stock. Custom roms are the best. Most of the bugs are also solved in kitkat for our phone. Also they are customizable, while stock os is not.

There are several mtk6589 phones which have 4.2 as stock like xperia c.. full sources of mtk devices are available leaked ofcourse..however broadcom is much btr than mtk no doubt.
As to compare which one is btr .. stock 4.2 or custom 4.4 .. its a matter of personal preference
I just got my dad's grand (I had a s2 9100 earlier) .. lots of kitkat roms for s2 but serious bugs like that of fuse daemon plaguing the use ...also screen on time never went beyond 3 hrs time.
We went off topic
My brother is damn sure about kitkat update for 9082 (he aint no techy) ..
I hope he is right) although m uncertain..
We don't need 4.3 just go to hell samsung....we have cm11 the best rom for sgg.

Well, it means a lot more. You can now change clock speeds or build fancy stuff into the kernel (e.g. doubletap2wake). Also it is possible in theory to update the kernel to match newer Android versions. If you don't have kernel sources you are "caught" with the Android version (and derivates) the device ships with.

Since Team M.A.D released a lot of MTK code, it should be reasonably easy to bring up CM for this. I neither have time at the moment to do this nor do I own the phone, lol. Otherwise I would do it since MTK SoCs are quite well known to me. Good luck to you guys!
Edit: I downloaded the source to play around a bit, but it does not yet compile... Let's see....

Well, it's "normal" for mtk kernel code to not compile out of the box. You have to fix some includes and patches because mtk uses a weird toolchain when building ROMs including kernels to they don't get these errors. I'm gonna upload my device tree once it compiles

Nah, the kernel's fine.
This commit allows it to compile and boot and operate normally. It looks like someone tried to implement a new feature in the MMC driver and left a header out. This code and that header aren't present in any other kernel that I've seen, so I assumed it was safe to revert. Both the internal MMC and the external SD card still work, so :good:
Also, to those of you putting the kernel into a git repo, make sure you delete the broken .git folders strewn about or everything you do in git will take twice as long.
The script that's supposed to append the DTB to the end of the kernel isn't working for me, so I had to append it myself to get it to boot. I'm investigating why this isn't automated now.

I've only checked the other kernel repo
I was referring to the broken targets
The nand commit you reverted was exported from the full build environment, it's meant to be used on compiling options
This source with the symlinks in place will compile just fine within the full source/environment from TINNO ( the ODM, that makes the devices)
Cheers, happy builds
PS:
If I find this cheap of eBay ( Europe ) I'll get one
The taxes I would had to pay shipping from US would probably be twice the device's value ...
Also this will be release (if not already) on Europe / Philippines with another brand name ( as always)
BLU Mediatek products are not a world exclusive ( even if they say otherwise)

You mean the targets in Android.mk? We don't need those if we're building AOSP or CM, right?

Even if that's the case, for now we really don't need to see flash info in the *#0661# screen, and that seems to be the only thing broken outside of their environment when building for p6601. Also, using symlinks in the kernel source sounds like a bad idea. I appreciate the insight. I hadn't considered that possibility.
Now that the source is fixed I could try compiling twrp now.

the beta version is installed fastbootd through the firmware of all the necessary sections through flash.bat slot b in the same way you can return to nothingOS. I don’t know how the release will be installed.

A Google Phone would be better for modding. Or any other big flagship with open source kernel. Sadly OnePlus is really bad now. I bought a 10 Pro for a Family Member. Its ColorOS now and does not support "real root" anymore.
I really hope Nothing will be more open for modding in the feature so far its a great device.

If you want directly custom rom, don't asking for custom rom for a device out there 2 months ago.
For sure Nothing Phone 1 will have a lot of custom rom in the future, first release/base is the rule for that.
It's better to be patient and have a good custom rom instead a rom incomplete or unstable.
Above all, installation/recovery is missing for the moment (only cuctom rom can be instalable by sideload)
and a lot of people are not ready to install a custom rom by this way, without a custom recovery.

Good news, thanks FI mate
You should post more news on your TG, people are sometimes boring by asking ETA, but just post a pictures PA A12/13 without "nothing" other information from 2 months is also not a good idea if you want the peace ^^
If you want directly custom rom, don't asking for custom rom for a device out there 2 months ago.

If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Especially if its a free project.

Check the whole PA history and you'll understand what I mean. Since you're also an old XDA member it shouldn't be hard for you to find the answer.
