Default app triggered by Bluetooth - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I enable bluetooth on my S5 in my car, it auto syncs with my Ford Sync systems, so I can play my stuff through the car speakers. When connected, it auto triggers an app and plays the audio straight away. Is there anyway to select which app gets automatically triggered to play? I can't see why its choosing one app and not another.
Thanks,
Jon

Have a look under
Settings>>Applications>>Default Applications.
If your bluetooth app is listed there, press the 'clear' button next to it.
The next time you start bluetooth audio, you'll be prompted to select which app you want to use.....

There is nothing under Default Applications. The app in question is Smart Audiobook Player. Its so annoying because I want my podcast player to auto start, not Smart Audiobook Player. Surely there is a way to stop this?

Is this a 'system' or 'user' app?
And do you have root access?

I do not have root access. Not sure what you mean by system or user app. is there a way for me to check?

Did you install the app yourself (user) or did it come preloaded (system) on the phone?......
http://i.imgur.com/rVnFwJM.jpg

I installed it myself. Its Smart AudioBook Player.

Uninstalling this app *should* clear any default startup actions......
Then re-install it as normal.
The next time you enable Ford sync/bluetooth, you *should* see a dialogue box prompting you which app to choose for the job.
If you don't see this, and this app still auto starts, then it might be worth looking in the app settings to see if this auto start can be prevented......
These are the only options I can think of.....If they don't work, I really don't know what else you could try......
Edit.....is 'Ford Sync Systems' an app on your device too?
If it is, there may be something in that apps settings that is auto-activating the other app......

Applications Like Tasker

I'm looking for an application like Tasker, which can automate certain tasks such as muting the phone between certain times when I'm at work or uni. Tasker was one of the winners of the ADC II, but it appears I am unable to get it to work on my phone.
What does XDA recommend as a good alternative?
Can't automate everything, but sure Toggle Settings can manage a lot of settings with scheduled profiles.
You need locale my friend.I use it to go to vibrate mode when I enter work, bluetooth on for the drive home, silent after 10pm, auto launch clock when docked, and finally turn wifi on when I am at home
Is there a free version of this or something similar, don't fancy spending a tenna on this

Thanks guys. Locale is great.
There is one problem with it, where it won't let me access manage applications. Not an issue for me though, I prefer the ASTRO Applicaiton manager which doesn't crash.

request* how to delete HTC.music.apk app

hey guys.. i was wondering if anyone knew the command line to remove HTC music app... i like the vanilla music app better.. i installed it.. only problem is.. when i use my bluetooth stereo earphones.. when i try and skip a track or resume a track.. it actually starts up the HTC music app.. while the vanilla app i have to control via phone.. i tried to do it with a file manager.. but its telling me its " read only".
Easiest way to delete apps is get Titanium Backup found in the market.
It gives you a list of all your apps, to back them up, delete, whatever.
If you having problems, tap the problems tab and install busybox

[Q] Google Music & Stock Music

For some reason I feel that my music sometimes chooses the stock music player as default. For example on the notifications it will open the stock music player if I click the currently running song in Google Music. (see attached screenshot)
Go in to application management in settings, find the stock music application and select clear defaults. Then try clicking the notification in the pull down bar and it should give you the option of selecting either the stock music application or the google music application. Select thr google music application as default.
If that doesn't work you could try removing the stock music application with titanium backup

Worked
Is there anyway to have it also show the album art and song info too on the lockscreen?
*deleted* I figured it out. I am not awake yet, I guess.

OK, I haven't figured it out at all. I am trying to use Titanium to remove the stock music app. Titanium says the phone will reboot twice and the app will be irreversibly removed. So it reboots to the screen with the triangle with the exclamation mark inside with the android next to it and it stays like that until I hit the key to get to the menu. I choose Reboot Now, which it does, but it never reboots a second time and the stock player is still there. What the heck am I doing wrong?
weird I never have to reboot to remove an app with TB, and i removed my stock music app many times! Weird... did you click uninstall in TB? Is TB up to date? I'm gonna assume your rooted...
TB actually pops up a message that says the phone will reboot twice, then the app will be gone. I was able to remove the old Google Music app using Terminal Emulator so it all worked out in the end. I just don't know why TB didn't work.

Viper4Android issue

Ive installed Viper4Android through Magisk Modules over latest Android Oreo but I'm having an intermittent problem where "Processing" shows No and a reboot is required to fix the problem. I've done several reinstalls, installed Audio Mod Libs, deep buffer removal etc, but it still happens. It occurs after receiving or making a call, then nothing processes anymore, regardless of the output (headset, Bluetooth, speakers). Has anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it?
Android can only have 1 EQ or they will conflict with one another. Essential is using Snapdragon Audio+ for the pre-installed EQ.
Go to Android settings, apps, tap the 3 vertical dots and show system apps. Scroll to MusicFX, tap it and select disable.
Also, if Viper4Android does fail to process, you can choose Exit from one of menus and then re-open it and start playing music again. It should start processing again without needing to reboot.

MusicFx is disabled. And restating doesn't help. I figured out the scenario where is stops working: It's after making or receiving a call. Strange bug. Same thing is happening with other EQ apps from the Play Store, but force closing and then restating those apps restarts the EQ again

Interesting findings. Same behavior is happening on the stock EQ, Snapdragon Audio+.

Guess I'm not alone, not sure if this has any bearing on the issue, but I'm running ElementalX 3.00 kernel as well

Nope. I'm stock except for Magisk and 1 camera module. What you described happens with the stock EQ. Only, skipping a couple of tracks brings the EQ back. This even happened during the beta for me but oddly, it was never an issue with Viper4Android using the Magisk module. I haven't tried it on the official 8.1 yet but I've been tempted to over this bug.

Disable Battery Optimization

So it looks like there are many people having issues with the battery optimization feature, which lets me guess oneplus is already aware of the problem. My question is if there is a way to disable the optimization completely for now until oneplus has sorted things out.
Since the last update it is so aggressive, it kills youtube's connection to my chromecast every few minutes, rendering all control features unuseable as I always have to reconnect before I can do anything. This also makes my wearOS watch unuseable as it also depends on the phone keeping the connections alive.
You can turn off Optimization for YouTube and WearOS
Settings > Apps & Notifications > Special app access
You can turn off optimization for any app, and see the advanced in the 3 dot menu. I had the same problem with my watch, turned off the watch app and helper, now works great. I also turned off messenger, no problems now.

I also would like to know if this is possible in an easy way. I don't want to disable it for 256 apps independently.

Thanks for the reply!
That setting was the first thing I checked and already disabled optimization for the wearOS and cast apps which work fine now. Unfortunately it won't let me disable it for the youtube app as it handles that one as a system app. As long as youtube is not allowed in the background wearOS has nothing to communicate with so I still can't control it.
That's why my next thought was if I can't disable it for system apps maybe there is a way to completely disable it until oneplus has the problem solved. I know that solution would suck but at the moment I am forced to use another phone to use youtube properly which sucks even more imo.

I wonder if the system mover app works on Pie and YouTube? I didn't realize YouTube was a system app since it's from the play store.

I would love to try this but I am unrooted. Youtube should be on the list but it is not, I am guessing that is because it comes preinstalled, the playstore app isn't there as well for example.
I know this is an old thread, but the more I use my new phone, the more I believe this to be the issue with my Gmail app constantly putting my Exchange accounts back to 30 minute fetch. And, I cannot disable battery optimization on Gmail because it's a system app (and I do not want to root). For now, every other day, I have to tell the device that it really is OK for Gmail to remain constantly connected to my Exchange account, that I actually prefer it to be. I've made it to 54 hours with my normal use (OVER 7 HRS S.O.T), not trying to stretch it at all, no battery saving features on whatsoever. So it's safe to say I can afford for Gmail to stay connected with Exchange. The optimization is a bit too aggressive for not allowing system apps to be excluded.
I've also had issues with Google Assistant not reminding me about reminders that are clearly in the list of her reminders, and I think this to be the culprit as well, and again, can't disable it because it's not on the list.

Having exactly same problems with gmail and chrome (html5 push notifications). I am rooted. So I am considering to mark those apps as non system apps, but still not sure if this won't brake future updates or something.
