[Q] March 22 Update

Hey guys.
This is my first post ever on XDA, bare with me
So, according to PocketNow.com, windows has started rolling out the official NoDo update for all Windows Phones.
I just wanted to hear, have you guys got the notification yet?
Are you seeing the expected performance-upgrades?

On my HTC HD7 I got the small update but on my Omnia I've still not had my first update, why is that?
What version does the minor update change it to?

ok I have an unbranded Omnia 7 from Slovenia and I still didn't get the NoDo update. I got the "pre NoDo" (7008) as it started to roll out.

Checked almost 500 comments on different blogs and sites.
Still not a single one Samsung update mentioned.
Gonna have to wait prob.

Nah me neither (unbranded Omnia 7 currently on 7008). Could be our device is delayed a bit so as not to run into the same problems as before?
I've read in the main forum, that it's a rolling update again - i.e. it's not coming out to everyone at once, so maybe that's it.
If you're running a branded ROM then expect a delay

Its not coming out at the same time. If you read on update history on ms site they said that it will take time for different carriers to roll it out.
Only some unbranded HTC handsets got it so far.
I guess just be patience at this stage. Not long left.

Unbranded devices wont bother what carriers do, they will get the update direct from Microsoft. But besides a few people on Twitter saying they have a Samsung update it seems the only devices so far that have got NoDo are HTC and LG ones. Wonder if MS is delaying to make sure they don't have the pre-NoDo issues like they did before.
Suppose we will just have to wait for now....

Yesterday, when the update rolled out, i read that unbranded european devices are the first to get the update. Yay! I'm from Denmark and my Omnia is unbranded.
I guess we won't have to wait much longer.

Yes unbranded/unlocked HTC but no Samsung`s so far.
There is a fix to provoke the update for some branded phone`s.
Or:
- NoDo: End of April for Deutsche Telekom Windows Phones
- NoDo: O2 rolling out NoDo in early April

I've heard of people getting the Optimus 7 update too, so it's us omnians who have to wait. I got aslo 7008 same day it began rolling out. (unbranded i8700 16GB)

So i was bored. Decided to start chatting to someone at Sony on the live chat, fishing details out of her were a bit slow but this is what i got, just going to post the useful information.
Arron: is there any estimate for the Xperia 2011 phones getting Ice Cream Sandwhich?

yep so we are looking at a lot more to come with are play's

Didn't I read somewhere that most of the 2011 series phones would be getting ICS at the end of March / start of April but that the Play wouldn't be one of them as it's got different hardware and requires more work? In fact, I recall May / June being quoted at one stage.
I'm not sure how much truth there is in what I just said and I can't find the original thread that I am thinking of so sorry if I have gotten this completely wrong

No it's only if u unlock the bootloader your ok rooted:-D

So happy that I did it! I cant wait to receive that "Update your system" notification.

Do you think that the GPE will get the update to android l a lot faster then the stock ones? Considering the stock roms are nearly pure android, do you think there will be a noticeable difference?
How many days do you think the GPE will save compared to the stock one?
How many days was it in the past? Or how many days is it *usually* for motorola devices or even other devices for that matter?

I really don't know man. Pure logic says that GPE will get it faster because you will not depend on the carrier to release it, just Google. So once they push the button all the GPE devices will get it....
In another note, I feel that the GPE runs much MUCH fluid than the non-GPE.

Nope, the gpe is still developed by the manufacturer, but they must do it exactly by the book.

Yes I know, but I was refering to the carrier...so for example if you have Verizon, you have to wait until Verizon releases the update, not just Google and then Motorola. In the GPE, since it is unlocked you dont have to wait for any carrier to release it, so you are avoiding one step, hence I think is faster....

Hey man, i'm planning to flash GPE firmware but I want to know this: does GPE firmware have equalizer or Sound Effects app like the original moto firmware? please answer me ASAP!

Great news, I had a really bad experience with my previous phone (Desire X) and updates. It got 4.1.2 3 months after release, but never saw another update after that from HTC. I think smartphones should be able to get updates from the OEM's for at least 2 years.
Most ironic fact was that I paid $300 for the Desire X, and $199 for the Moto G. Go figure...

Yup, paid 200€ for the moto G (in Romania, Motorola has no power here), and almost 300€ for the galaxy s3 mini... Galaxy s3 mini got the 4.1.2 update!!! From 4.1.1... And moto G is on a freaking list by Google, considered equal for updates as the nexus 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10 and the HTC one M8...
Not to mention my sister got the Moto E, the 150€ phone (here) with better support than the galaxy s5, which probably won't get lollipop this year, or even this winter... 600€ device, doesn't get software updates because Samsung is probably still stuck with their old TV update policy, which doesn't exist.

Android 5.0 and L as OS options for G3 on LG SmartWorld: a hint on an early update?

I have posted this in reddit and wanted to share it here too. While I was browsing the LG SmartWorld site, I clicked the phone selection link on the right to choose the G3. After choosing the G3 and hitting OK, a dialog appears asking the operation system of the phone and there are options for Android 5.0 and Android L. I also checked this with other phones and these only appear in G3 models. Maybe a hint towards an early Lollipop update?

Now that's interesting. Hopefully it IS a sign we'll be getting it soon.

If You haven't made it up and Your friend seriously work as a tester - delete your post. Sharing anything related on any portal is violation of NDA and it can end very bad

Do not expect many things.we are talking about LG the worst company in the updates. I wish to be wrong but something tell me that we will only see android L with the next release of lg g4. Lg usually brings the updates 3 months after Samsung and htc . Htc which promised fast update to m8 it states a few days ago that it will give the android L 90 days after received the stable version from Google. That means that the fast plan from htc is about 4 months from now. Guess now LG which slowest than a turtle.we are talking about 7 to 8 months. Which will be very near to the release of next g4. So it will wait a few months more to release the new g4 with the new lolipop experience. I wish to be wrong but lg has a very bad history.

I have no faith in LG but if they update this phone to 5.0 it will sell more of these for them. So we might get lucky cause they are greedy.

I believe that it will take longer than 6 months to get out to carriers (At&t still is on 10d.) But it could be possible for the international versions.

If all of these guys have not been working with the preview build code and getting all their ducks in a row, i would be SHOCKED. This is a new way for google to announce the OS and i think they did it to give OEMS time to get stuff ready for fast updates. Once final code drops, i wouldnt be surprised to see OEMS releasing for certifications from carriers within a month. At least HTC and samsung! lol But here is the thing i keep hoping for. Samsung used to be HORRIBLE with updates, then they figured it out and now are one of the fastest (HTC still has the crown). LG Could do the same. Especially with all the time they should have already had with the base code (not any MAJOR changes really even in this latest preview). Fingers crossed. As long as i have this phone long enough to actually see the update. My tmobile jump and a nexus 6 or note 4 are almost tempting me, but i love this phone!

Confirmed!! 7.0 update by Sony

It didn't need an announcement probably, but Sony has confirmed its plans to release (no date given though) Android 7.0 update for Xperia Z5, among other devices.

I hope for a new UI from Xperia X family and some new feautres from 7.0 like notification direct reply and multi-window view.

Honestly? I'd like to receive early updates following the Google patch cycle. Constantly.

I saw somewhere (forget where it was) that considering how fast (or slow) Sony update their devices, roll-out will probably start by February 2017. It also says Samsung will do by January-February of the same year.

Welcome to Sony, one of the reasons my next phone will not be Sony unless they wake up an provide an updated phone that is up to specs or better thn it's competitors at the same/similar price point

This is one of the main reasons I'm planning on ditching Sony when I get my next phone, this and increasingly poor build quality.

expect 7.0 upodate for Sony around late november. Since this yearly android update is released earlier and OEMs had acces to the code much sooner thus we'll get the update sooner. You guys are way too pessimistic about this

we're pessimistic because we know what Sony are like with updates and doubt there going to change now

Considering the number of devices to get this update is really small, I assume we should get is very soon and definitely BEFORE the christmas.
Otherwise it will be another shame for Sony...

Hang on a sec...we're not pessimistic - we're not delusional either. It's almost September now. What's the latest Z5 security patch level? Oh yeah, 1st April. So "wee little" security patches are 5 months behind but you guys reckon the entire Operating System, Android Nougat will drop within the next 4 months?!?
Dream on guys. Wish you were right but...

I preferible stability over speed. I didnt have a single crash or reboot with z5 sibce i bought las year

Admittedly, Sony update is not keeping up with Security patches from Google, unless they include it in a bigger bugfix/major upgrade release. So I wouldn't take that as a reference.
We were all disappointed for the late MM release by Sony, but I don't think N will bring so many dramatic changes from M, as M brought from L.
Also, I don't think they have a flagship series replacement on their agenda until February, a it happened during MM preparation.
Let's just stay optimistic.

After the time it took for Marshmallow I hope Sony can get it out by Christmas, there is no excuse anymore to not release an update when Google release previews themselves. This isn't ICS which was more or less a complete overhaul of Android.
This is a minor update in comparison to ICS, Marshmallow was minor but took half a year for Sony to roll out. Hope Sony can get 7.0 out by November, I expect perhaps one more update after that before support is ended, but by then I will probably get a new phone.

LLabtoofer said HTC M8 and other Snapdragon 800/801 devices won't get 7.0 as Qualcomm will no longer support their drivers. I think it is likely Sony will bring features from the previews to the Z3, but it won't be the true 7.0, just the developer build - the same goes for other devices like the Nexus 5 and OnePlus One.
