Imho everyone with locked bootloader should pray his/her phone gets bootloop now - G4 General

Weird title, isn't it? Thing is I am a bricked device sufferer. And I couldn't repair it in my country cause it has motherboard problem. See I am seeing still some new users are getting motherboard problem out of nowhere. There has been an unofficial news that some devices manufactured before September 2015 are having motherboard problem. So only solution is replacing the motherboard. I didn't know this info before buying a new G4.
As a root enthusiast, I would definitely unlock my bootloader by now. But I cannot do that as it will void my warrenty if anything goes south again. U can already find many unlocked bootloader owners are having motherboard issue (even recognised developer S3V3N also), so obviously they cannot claim warrenty anymore. This is a painful feeling that when or whether my device will have motherboard problem again.
LG isn't saying anything officially why this problem is arising. There must be a specific motherboard batch that is having the bootloop issue and LG must know it. If LG were a good company who think about their consumers, not only profits, they would already publish a list of IMEI of those devices or at least give some ideas how to identify which devices may have the issue. Right now it's completely uncertain if my new device will ever get bootloop issue and if so, when???? I wish my phone would get into bootloop now since I am having locked bootloader, so that I could replace the motherboard and then use my phone free of tension the way I want.
I don't know if you guys understand my pain, but it's a matter of humanity. Not everyone is capable enough to buy a new phone twice or thrice a year, right?

If you haven't voided your warranty then send it back and get a replacement. If you have voided the warranty, then that is surely the risk you take when deciding to root etc?

I didn't root or do anything to my phones if I couldn't afford to buy a replacement right away. Perhaps you should also err on the side of caution.

hey man, try to understand the point. breaking yr screen is one thing, getting yr phone soaked in water is one thing, but getting faulty motherland in a almost new device is totally unpredictable and uncool and should not be. a brand new device should not have such a major issue. but as it persists, being a leading OEM, LG should acknowledge it publicly or help people find out a solution. that's what I meant. suppose if I would know that my device has already a faulty motherboard inside which is prone to cause trouble, I could go now and ask for a replacement. That would be convenient, isn't it?

But the fact remains that if the phone is as it left the factory, and was bought brand new from a retailer, then you are entitled to a repair or exchange. So just do that.

See, LG has stated that they cannot maintain the full scope of the warranty. If the motherboard is shot, and it has nothing to do with what software you've installed, why would LG not honor the warranty?

You are correct in some units being defective before the September builds. Sprint has listed a recall with their technicians and T-Mobile has been replacing bootlooping devices no questions asked. The way to determine the date of manufacture of your device is in the first 3 numbers of the serial number. The first number would be the year, so a 5 means 2015. The next 2 numbers are the month. So 09 would be September.

Do units made after May 2015 show HW rev other than 1.0?

Does that only count for US devices or are devices globally affected? I have 507 on a H815-EUR in Germany.

Yeah, but why has yours been replaced? Had it have the listed symptoms? Mine doesn't.

THX for this post - H815 EU (bought in Slovakia) already at seller and waiting how they will deal with that - Also similar problems appeared in Poland (developer S3V3N from here), another thread in troubleshooting section started by some Thailand and Israeli users.

Mine has started to restart itself outta nowhere. But before that i had installed the z cpu app and strangely it showed that the processor its clocked at 1.2 ghz...
After the bootloop started it couldn't been stopped till the battery died. It got crazy hot of course.
Tried to charge it. It did charge a bit then stopped charging either. And it was officially dead?.
Send it for repair.
After two weeks i got it back. On the repair report was stated that motherboard was unable to repair so they put new one. And a new usb port too.

It is global and effects a small percentage of the ones made before September.

Samsung had similar probs 3 years ago with the s3 sudden death bug that was a faulty emmc controller chip literally thousands had their motherboards replaced, plug it in at night wake up dead phone mine worked fine for 11 months then just died

good news for unlocked TF300t's

Hey Guys,
i just got word from Asus (i called them to see whats happening with my pad, digitizer is/was broken). When the Guy told me my Pad's gonna be and shipped today i asked whats with the warranty loss due to unlocking via their tool. First he was like if you unlocked you loose warranty but they also know that the Hardware can be broken not due to the unlocking. He basically told me - if you send us a pad with stock rom and point out a hardware fault you will get it repaired / changed for a working device.
I asked if thats a one time only thing and he said: no - we want people to enjoy our products and if there is a fault in our software or hardware we will take care of it - ofc if you drop it or submerge it in water we won't cover that.
this is for the German Asus division so i don't know about the others but i feel good knowing that i can unlock it again and flash the hell out of it without regrets
cheers
Well apparently thats not quite right - so i have to redact my statement.
Asus told me again and again that i get my hardware broken device repaired... well apparently they lied. 5 weeks after they had my tab i just received a mail stating - your device was rooted your waranty is lost. i argued but the dude didn't admit to how they knew that (he didn't even mentioned the unlocking)
fun fact: i have to pay 70€ to even get my broken device back.. ain't that nice of Asus... - if i want it repaired its almost the price of a new unit
now I'm thinking of calling my lawyer to talk to him about that and what can be done - with the user tracking and all that - maybe they can be reasoned with
If Asus had stated you rooted/unlocked - you have to pay from the start - ok but letting you wait for weeks and weeks telling you - just a missing part at no cost - thats BS
/rant
I unlocked my device too soon and after several reboots (motherboard failing) i sent it to the SAT. The repair cost me 250€, 1 and a half month and no "we love you" comments.
Erm, I don't get it. Does it mean that for an obvious hardware fault you can get a repair free of charge even if you are unlocked? Isn't there a way to re lock the bootloader and downgrade anyway?
Sent from my Lumia 800 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Currently there is no way to relock the device and downgrade. There probably won't be either...But yeah hes saying that if its an obvious hardware problem they repaired it for free. But i'm in the US and so far everything i've read regarding hardware failures with unlocked bootloaders equals HUGE repair bills not worth footing. I'm unlocked and have had my tab for almost a month now, no problems yet and absolutely love it.

Even if you lock the bootloader again - the tool sends your serial# to their servers. and they do check it.
Yeah germany is kinda its own space - we have a warranty and guaranty period - and since my tab was only 2 weeks old *shrug*
idk but the guy on the phone made it sound like thats their normal solution if they find that its a hardware prob on their end and not the owners fault.
im happy i get my tab back next week after owning it for almost 5 weeks and having it for 2 :highfive:

i haven't had any problems with my tab, but a had loads with my previous tab(samsung) and they upheld the same policy, they never complained about it being unlocked, so if it's not software, a fried cpu or accidental damage it should be covered. besides the fact that asus is repairing unlocked devices on their own: most national laws say that asus SHOULD repair hardware issues. its a customers right to get decent warranty . at least in holland (and probably all european countries) this is the case.

Sounds about right. Honestly tho I think that this disclaimer by Asus is mostly made because they don't wanna deal with products rendered bricks by user stupidity: they can't be forced to resolve some random software issue regarding devices which are running CM nightlies and stuff like that, it would be an unbearable burden for them, it woudn't make sense at all. However, hardware issues are generally pretty obvious, so we should be safe if we run into troubles, either locked or unlocked IMHO.
I was thinking about starting a thread about this. I thing Asus or anyone shouldn't threaten us well void our warrenty if we unlock the bootloader. They should ship it to us unlocked. Flashing new roms, tweeks and mods is what puts android above the rest.
I unlocked mine, and about a month later I had a major hardware problem and couldn't see the screen at all backlight problem or something. So just because I wanted t get the most out of My tablet, and have fun with. IM screwed if Asus decides to put out a few faulty devices, which would've had the problem unlocked or not.
IM not saying they should fix our tf300 if tithe owner doesn't read the forums and bricked from operator error. I just think its wrong to shut us unlocked folks out like that. Samsung does I never need to mess with bootloader to flash on my Galaxy S Blaze 4g
Last night I read on Asus website. That if you instal 3rd party apps you'll lose ur warrenty too

Agreed. That would be definitely against the law. Any law of any country pretty much.
just a follow up:
my tab is gonna be replaced (but the shop i bought it from is taking its sweet time...) 6 weeks without my tf300 *sigh
i had to wait 1 month for a replacement screen (which didn't came in time) so i get a new one.
my tab was unlocked, custom rom'd, rooted, etc... but it was a hardware defect - so from my point of view all hardware related issues should be covered by warranty - if you brick your tab you need a convincing telephone voice i imagine
so i hope i have my new tab by the end of the week

I'm in the US and created an RMA request with Asus. I was quoted between $87 to $100 to repair the OS on a device with an unlocked bootloader.
This excludes the cost of you shipping Asus the tablet. However, it includes the cost of labor, diagnostic, and shipping back to you.
I've sent my tablet in via FedEx Ground on Friday, and it arrived at their Grapevine,TX (near Dallas) around 11am on Monday. This cost me about $15 so far.
The Asus RMA site has not acknowledged that they've received my tablet, while FedEx has shown that it's been delivered and signed for. I called again and was told it "might take a few days" for it to show up in their system.
I'm waiting to see if Asus keeps to their quoted estimated price.
Debating if I should make a new thread about this, or continue in this one as I'd hate to hijack someone else's thread.

A story of a rooted phone, sent for repairs.

Dear Readers,
I am about to tell you my story of myself a current Galaxy Note user and the unfortunate episode when my phone had problems. I have been a long time user of xda, but a first time poster of this wonderful forum.
First of all I want to tell you I currently reside in Australia, Sydney and I am a Vodafone customer. I have been using this phone for about 6 months without any problems whatsoever, until a couple of weeks ago my phone started to inconsistently charge. At first I thought it was a cable issue, so I isolated the problem with a different cable and it didn't work. Fear and doubt crept into my mind for the next couple of days, if I should return the phone to Vodafone for repairs because as you may have guessed, my phone is rooted with a custom rom called, "AllianceROM_N7000_ICS_v2.1" with the wonderful "SpeedMod Kernel".
I searched through google and I found out that I wasn't the only person to have this problem with this charging issue. From further research I also found out that some people have claimed that sending a rooted phone into repairs will void your phones warranty, and some other people say that it won't void your warranty. Rather confused with this conflicting information, what other better way to confirm this issue than to call up Samsungs service centre. When I asked, the gentlemen on the other end just simply answered, "Yes".
So with this new information, I finally decided to unroot my phone and installed a stock official rom called N7000BDULR5_N7000BVAULR4_VAU. But before I did all this, from further research through XDA's forums I found out that I needed to reset my Binary count with Triangle Away by Chainfire. But with the issue of the phone not charging properly, it did not help with the issue of unrooting the phone, because the battery was constantly flat. After painstaking hours I finally unrooted my phone.
As I came home after handing my phone into Vodafone, a thought crept into my mind. Will they void my warranty, if I did not have the bloatware in which Vodafone has pre-installed into the phone? Because the stock rom in which I installed did not carry the bloatware.
Through the following week of praying that they will not void my warranty because of this issue, I got a message from Vodafone to pick up my phone. I called Vodafone customer repair centre and they told me that they have fixed the issue by replacing the micro usb connector which the pins was dislodged and also the UNIT-SUB PBA- which is the motherboard. Vodafone told me that this is a rare case in which the both of these hardware issues occur in the Galaxy note. Phew..
As of right now I am charging my phone without any problems so far. I will keep you guys updated if I have any other further issues with the repairs done on my phone.
I'm in Malaysia and I had the similar problem with you as well.
Initially I sent in my phone with the stock ROM but I forgot to reset the binary count and the 3rd party service center voided my warranty.
I took back my phone and installed "triangle away" by chainfire which reset my custom binary count and this time I sent it in to Samsung for a warranty claim and after the next day. They called me to collect my phone and my mother board + micro usb was replaced.
I did a little research myself and I've came to this conclusion and incompatible external battery packs messed up the system as I never had an issue with my phone charging till I bought myself a cheap external batter pack charger which then i guess messed up my board.
conclusion for me:
invest in a proper external batter pack which is compatible with the N7000 battery.
Congrats on getting your phone repaired without getting caught. Same thing had happened to me when I gave my phone to ssc. I had unrooted and used triangle away but unfortunately forgot to uninstall it. My phone was repaired and it still had triangle away in it. I guess they don't look into the phone that closely.

the hardware is faulty, the pins don't last, apparently it's even a known issue at Samsung.. This repair has nothing to do with firmware. The phone boots, it runs, it can have different firmwares flashed to it, the issue is purely a hardware issue and so the warranty should cover the repair even with the custom binary... i dont like the loophole use by the warranty center when, as with this guy, the user clearly hasn't damaged the device... That would just be wrong.

Dear Mr TopOfNewYork,
You maybe correct about the correlation with software Vs hardware issue that may render your phone having problems. But no legal terms and conditions will release the manufacturer of any legal liabilities with the products being offered to the public. (In Australia it is called the Australian Consumer Law 2010, Please check with your local countries consumer protectionism law.)
On another note, the phone has a random automatic reboot issue at random times, and as of now wont even boot to Touchwiz UI. The only way I can use the phone is to directly charge the phone, while using it. I have had the phone for two days from the date of it was returned to me, and I have complained (in a logical, non violent yelling manner) to Vodafone and they have agreed to send me a new Samsung Galaxy S3 16gb White.
I am absolutely satisfied to receive a new phone, and will update the situation about the new phone on the S3 forum.
Thank you for reading and have a happy and prosperous year.
Glad to know you got your problem solved.

Well I just sent my Note 2 in and it took the service center 2 weeks to enter my phone...during that time Samsung cancelled my claim because the service centre in Quebec didn't enter it in time.
I called Samsung and they called the center and set them straight and now I just got a reply that my phone, while rooted, has never had a custom ROM on it and never had anything but stock...I rooted it only to kill the rogers bloatware that I could not uninstall.
I just got a reply and they told me the repair will cost $672 to repair the screen due to it being rooted....wtf
Reason it was sent in was in woke up, unplugged my phone from charging and noticed a stuck red dead pixel on the screen...wasn't there the night before....so how does root on a stock phone cause an hardware issue....time to call and complain to Samsung.
This is unreal....
I too had the problem! First I thought it was lint, etc, so I prodded etc. It would charge for5 min then stop.
In the end I got a new daughter board for£10 with the USB socket, new mix and antenna. Took less than ten mins to fit. It's been like new since.
I've the same issue on my Kindle HD, but that's another tale........
Box 13.
I unrooted my phone before giving it to the "Samsung" repair shop, which in my town is just a dodgy phone shop with a big Samsung sticker on the window. I got it back the next day with an untested bad ROM update so the keyboard just typed nonsense.
In the end I spent ages fixing the damage they caused and never got to the bottom of the original issue.

I had unrooted device with blue hotpixel, these dumbasses first tear it down, then realized the receipt is not enough for proof so they want an invoice from seller stating where he got phones from. And because seller was a retard he didn't send me it in time, they reassembled the phone and sent it back (leaving a hair between frame and screen - proves that it was disassembled) I wonder for what they got grade A from Samsung...
From the same private service center, once they tried to prove that non-rooted and untouched phone was flashed (it was aftermath of failed Kies/Odin update), intervention in Samsung Poland helped, they sent a new phone.
In any case of imbeciles at service senter, contact Samsung, their people usually have more knowledge and are willing to help

Unfortunately not in Poland, they still require at least receipt, but new internal procedures of service center require shop's invoice, especially since they see phone was bought in service/second hand shop (still it was brand new, untouched etc.), maybe they're just too dum dum to handle their internal stuff or are afraid it was serviced somewhere else, I must speak with Sammy about this

Why Samsung would tell you that I have no idea.
Samsung here in Canada asked for a copy of my receipt to be faxed within 5 days or the claim would be void.

Personally, I would strongly suggest to find authorised local service centres from the Samsung website of one's respective country/region. Alternatively, one could either call or send an e-mail to the customer support of one's respective country/region to enquire about the details of authorised local service centres.
For illustrative purpose, I would find the Samsung website for my country/region from, http://www.samsung.com/uk/function/ipredirection/ipredirectionLocalList.do, and I would then proceed to find authorised local service centres by using the Find Service Locations found under the Support menu.

OK, I've been looking at a few countries warranty wording & yes it does say "Original purchase reciept" required for repairs so strange as it sounds they abide by different rules depending where you live.
I've not been asked for anything other than my personal details & address for collection. Yes that's right Samsung (I'm in UK) arrange to collect the phone & then deliver it back afterwards without any proof of purchase or reciepts. I have friends who have done the same & several of these phones including mine were bought secondhand but still in warranty (2yrs on some phones).
I want to share my warranty claim experience too (indonesia):
1. Galaxy S3, broken camera hardware. Clear binary, Flashed stock JB, sent to SSC. Asked for original purchase receipt, didn't have it. So i asked her to check the phone by serial number, warranty granted, fixed in 3 days and whooaa got extra 3 month warranty. I bought it when S3 launching event at June 12, extended to 31 sept 2013
2. Broke my Galaxy Nexus usb ports pin so usb cord can't plug properly and sometimes not detected in PC. I was too lazy to flash stock.. So with unlocked bootloader & Paranoid Android rom installed i went to same SSC, haha asked again for receipt and i didn't have it also. Granted, and got it fixed less than 1 hour

A lot of LG G4 users in Thailand -H818P are getting stuck in boot loop issue!!

This month, a lot of LG G4 users in Thailand - H818P are getting stuck in the boot loop issue every day.
The only way is to bring it to LG service center and replace the mother board and they not yet found and the root cause of this problem for a month up to now.
Most is serial lot 505 are being sold in Thailand and found with 10f firmware.
Is someone get the same problem ? What is your country and firmware you are using?
I need how to Restore/Unbrick LG G4 H818P (Bootloop Fix).
Same in Israel - model h815L. Many people have this issue but the local company who is the LG importer here takes their time and do a poor work when changing the motherboard. I read of at least 80 people who had that in here.

Same problem here with h815EU, bought in Slovakia. Something very similar happened to me - kinda a bootloop - phone starts to LG logo (with unlocked booloader banner) and after ~15sec reboots again and again - luckily I was ableto go insto "download" and recovery and bootloader so I flashed original OpenEU LL droir(10D) - via kdz. After that I was able to boot to android - but after some time it reboots itself and I was back in bootloop. It works that way that after couple of hours on charger and helluva lot autoreboots it starts but again only for couple of minutes, sometimes i was able to install some apps, sometimes only starting google play ended up with bootloop. So now it's in servis, I hope they will fix it or replace, as it is I think memblk error - HW issue.
Please write your experience if you have or had this problem, let we can use it as argument if our warranty repair claims will be denied.
2 extra god & AvivEliyahu: please can you give more info about the probs you mentioned? AFAIK I recently found that even one of developers here was affected by this (or smth very similar) - S3V3N from Poland ( see here: http://forum.androidnow.pl/13118-7-...rp-unlock-bootloader-post85521.html#post85521)
I have h818p.. No problems.. YET

Interesting.
505 means year 2015, month 05 or may. This is how you can tell when our G4 was made. The first 3 digits of the serial#. You will learn about this useful nugget if you browse the warranty booklet included in the box.
This is the first batch of G4's. These would be people that bought at launch or within a few months from it. Now a days I doubt there is any 505 stock left any more.
When its is said a lot of people i question it. LG has been making many G4's since 2015-05.
If you are among the unlucky few, hit the service centre for a replacement. Might take up to a month but you will get it and for free.
If your model is 505 and more than 3 months have passed without issue then you are probably in the clear.
Just checked SN - its 505KPNY####11 (H815EU) so it's among those from first batch, I bought it sometime @ beginning of june, it worked till begining of november (exactly to - 06.11.) I have unlocked bootloader, but I ready to sue them if they wont fix it &|| repair. I gave it to seller for warranty repair this monday, so I'm waiting for results - I'll keep you posted.
Does Thailand get the SEA version which has unlockable bootloader ?
people facing this problem and who have a variant that has no way to unlock the bootloader have a water tight case.
If you unlocked the bootloader then all bets are off. You are dependent on their goodwill.
don't know about Thailand version (I have H815 EU, bought in slovakia), but I think it depends on local legal regulations - warranty, guarantee repairs. In EU seller is responsible for HW faults not caused by misuse and/or accidental damage(fall from desk etc.) Reality is that device is usually sent to manufacturer or authorised service and they decide. But unlocking bootloader cannot be considered as misuse, at least because unlocking is provided by manufacturer(LG) directly - in case that unlocking was done by some 3rd party app, it might be questionable, but in this case...
2 OneTwelve: Thx for info about 505batch
Very good.
It strengthens my belief that the G4 cannot be bricked with software alone.
It might appear bricked to you but the service centre has the tools to unbrick it.
What if they say they will unbrick it for a fee ?
This fee is actually round trip transport costs to a facility that has the tools and knowledge.
If they say requires a new mobo that suggests a hardware issue. But i am sceptical of this reason.
One month is enough time to send a device back & forth to anywhere in the world.
If they will ask for some reasonable shipping fee, i'll pay that. Hopefully it wont be like on ebay sometimes - some sellers set starting price as 1/10th of item value, but i saw ie. mouse+kbd kombo (worth approx. 100€) for 15€, but shipping was 85€
Today I got the bootloop issue on my G4, I haven't done anything yet, still virgin phone, but it sux give me such problem, will send it for warranty on Monday LG simply ruin its image to me this time.

One week is good, usually something like this might take a month.
I would not give up sd card and replaceable battery (forever) for 1 week - 1 month of wait.
You have a backup phone ? use it.

See, this is the thing i don't understand. Every damn phone has issues if you check on the boards. Someone who has used flagships for a few years knows this.
you had no problems with G2 & G3. So really only one out of three gave you trouble.
Are you paying out of pocket for mobo replacement ? no.
has LG refused warranty ? no
You think samsung will be good, but if there is a problem in the future with samsung you will say the same thing.
Then who will you run to

Never heard that Samsung have such kind of major issue, I was surfed local forum and all said most of serial number from 505-509 are affected (not just a few units), If I am LG, I will do a recall instead of to wait us to get problem and then get repair, I lost all my datas, mobile banking etc, That's the sux thing for me, if they do a recall, then the kind of crappy thing won't happen to their customer!

My LG G4 bootlooped and LG fixed it even though I had bootloader unlocked

Hi guys,
Just wanted to post this out to help other people who may have experienced their LG G4 bootlooping. My device bootlooped last weekend. I had purchased it from a mobile recycling website, it was refurbished, it had 505 serial number, I also had the bootloader unlocked and was running Cyanogenmod 14.1.
I contacted LG as I thought I had nothing to loose, they asked me for proof of purchase and they repaired my device within a week and send replaced the motherboard and now the serial number is 611. No questions asked about bootloader or custom rom.
I reported it on the Monday, they picked it up on Tuesday, they dispatched it on the Friday and I received it today (Monday). I was very impressed with the turn around, so if there is anybody in the same situation, try sending it to LG and you never know your luck!
I am based in the UK and I arranged everything with LG over live chat.

really? Are they repairing unlocked devices? Sounds awesome!
I just got my phone back today i can concur. But when i got it back, the bootloader was locked again. so i've been trying to remember how i rooted it last time.
Well, if they're replacing the motherboard I'm guessing you don't get any of your original data back off it. New motherboard = new ROM chip with fresh, stock data, including bootloader.

They are legally obliged to, regardless of bootloader status.
Every device/electrical good sold in the EU has a 2 year manufacturer warranty as standard (regardless of what retailers tell you). If you can prove the device was faulty at the point of sale, in this case that's easy as LG have admitted a manufacturing defect, it doesn't matter what software modifications you've made, it's on LG to fix it.

LG asked me for the IMEI/Serial number. I provided this and they accepted the repair. To be honest with you I have no idea whether it was under warranty as the device was refurbished.
No cost, totally free and turned around very quickly

The UK doesn't fall in to that ruling I'm afraid - we're covered better by the Sale of Goods Act.
Same happened here a few weeks ago. Sent it off on Tuesday and received on Saturday fully working

Here in the UK I got this response after sending in my proof of purchase:
"Having looked at the supplied proof of purchase, the item listing and the individual seller, the unit is out of the box when sold as such appears to have been resold to yourself. As such, our manufacturer’s warranty does not extend to cover second hand, refurbished or re-conditioned handsets, therefore we will be unable to book this in for a repair."

I even forgot my proof of purchase but by the time I told them, they already sent it back to me working
In sweden , just last year they would claim, their units would not be affected and my claims was baseless. As if we would not have EU based units and 505 would just be a coincidence... ****ers...

Bootloop, LG and Farewell

Well, it's happened on Monday. Was using my phone and bloop....screen goes off and that's the last time it worked. Gradually got to the stage where it wouldnt even loop but my 5x is dead. RIP.
So, being out of warranty and all I sent an email to LG to see how much it would cost to repair. Reply came back with a series of questions but no "reply to" address. That's one way of hiding from the problem I suppose. For a company to try and avoid their responsibilities for a screamingly obvious hardware flaw is way out of order. At least Samsung had the guts to put their hands up.
Sharing this as part of the grieveing process in a way for the old Nexus devices. Had a 4, a 7 and then a 5x. The Pixels came out but when I saw their price tags and the setups it just reeked of apple (excuse the bad swearing language). Very sad really for someone who rarely went a whole week without the simple process of changing rom or setup or kernel but that was the beauty of the Nexus ethos.
Since Monday evening I have been the owner of a Moto G5 Plus. Only charged it three times since getting it. Ads are part blocked in stock, it's nippy and am moving on with my life post nexus. Trouble is it's still on 7.0 but not a big issue for me.
Anyway, thanks guys and gals for the good times. LEarnt a lot about android, poor customer service and build quality from LG and made some good friends (and enemies) on here.
Keep happy
My 5X also died from last Sunday.... I sent my phone to authorized service (Procordia in Greece). I'm waiting now when the phone will be fixed (changing motherboard).
So I know you already moved on to the G5 plus, but you should see about getting it repaired. Then you could always keep on hand as a .spare device. Mine bootlooped (a second time) well out of warranty but I filled out the RMA request on LG's website (didn't talk to anyone, just like I did the first time) and they fixed it a second time for free. I don't recall how long they did it for, but they extended the warranty
edit: should point out I'm in the US and it might not go as well in other countries
My nexus died on me yesterday, still have 3 days left in warranty. Filed 2 reports to LG to request a repair and have had no email or anything, its as if my request has vanished. This is utterly ridicolous as I need a phone and I'm currently without one and can't afford anything worth buying. Will have to resort to using my Nokia 1600. Shame on LG for being like this
You should try contacting LG via phone and that might work better. The 5X warranty has been extended to 18 months on a case by case basis since this is a hardware problem. If they won't fix it, all you did was spend time on the call, but if you are eligible to have it fixed, you'd have a spare phone.
These bootloops are getting more and more common as our phone ages. Mine froze and shut down randomly and bricked while using it a few months back. Thankfully I bought mine here in the UK from Carphone Warehouse where I sent it for repairs, got the motherboard replaced, and fixed in one week, for free with the 2-year warranty. It sucks that LG aren't willing to help you guys though.
Mine died on me earlier this year. Luckily I had some backup phones. Using my old 2013 Nexus 5 currently. I can get life from my phone here and then but it freezes and shuts down during the boot animation. I bought mine from someone off craigslist so I doubt I'd have any luck getting it fixed by Google or LG. Too bad parts are hard to come by or I would try and buy a new motherboard and replace it myself. I really do miss using the 5X though. Just got to hold off until the end of the year for the next Pixel.
My Nexus 5X also bootlooped itself to death yesterday. I purchased it January 2016 when my Nexus 5 decided to kill itself. Unfortunately I also bought a 5X for my girlfriend at the same time which I'm expecting to go anytime now. I'm currently using my Samsung Galaxy S II that I bought at launch and is still alive 6 years later. Sucks because the only new phone that looks good to me right now is the LG G6, but I don't trust LG anymore so I don't know what to replace it with. Galaxy S 8 is purdy but I don't want to deal with burn in (like on my GS2). Essential also looks nice but doesn't have a headphone jack so that's out. Might have to go Sony with it's gigantic bezels. :-\
Update: Getting a refurbished replacement from Google. Hopefully by the time this one dies there will be some more appealing replacement options.
My second 5X died few days ago. Good phone bad quality
Mine died today. Warranty expired last October but they are sending me a refurb replacement. I've had it since November 2015 and even Bought it off swappa so I feel fortunate in one way but a phone should last a lot longer than that.

Who did you go through? Google or LG? I bought mine from someone off Craigslist but haven't tried asking for a replacement since I've never had any type of warranty. Did you have to show any kind of receipt of buying it or anything or did they just simply say "Ok" and send you a refurbished one? Also, did you call them or email them?

Well I just might do the same. If you bought it from a third party and it died yesterday and your already getting a refurbished one, I think I may have a shot. Good to know. Thanks
Well. Some progress here too.
Decided to give LG a go but as I bought it over ebay they wouldnt entertain any warranty work but gave me their out of warranty people called SBE here in the UK.
Contacted SBE and without any commitment on their behalf the fella said that they would look at it and if its not showing signs of damage and water etc then it should be covered as they have permission to replace faulty motherboards with only postage costs.
So am packing the phone off to them and see what happens. Anybody else experienced this route? Would be worth getting it fixed just to sell the damn thing afterwards.

Sure,
the verbage is a bit intimidating saying that they are putting full price for refurbished on hold on your account to see if it is covered by warranty but what they want to do is make sure you didn't run over it or drop it from a ten story building.

Yes, and then when they receive it and see it's not physically damaged (water, smashed screen) they refund you back the price of the phone. I didn't have to pay shipping either way.

It's kind of funny they would even hold onto the price of the phone seeing as the device isn't under warranty and it would be no loss to them. I mean, what would be the scenario where they would actually charge you the amount of the phone?
