Phone works slowly, what is the most lightweight ROM I can use? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
About 6 months ago I switched away from the stock ROM to Cyanogen to improve phone performance.
With stock rom, the performance was really bad. Switching tasks would take ages. Scrolling facebook would lag, starting apps etc.
After switching to CyanogenMod things seemed to work faster, however I've noticed that about 2 weeks after a new rom is flashes the phone starts lagging again. Currently I'm running a nightly build of Cyanogen 12.1 (android 5.1.1).
The performance is bad, switching tasks takes ages, loading new apps and what not.
I don't use the phone for anything other than WhatsApp, Facebook and emails.
I need a suggestion for a lightweight rom that has the best performance. I don't need any fancy widgets. Just have the base android 5.1 features.
Could it be that Google Now launcher causing the performance hit?

Yet Another Which Rom Question. Please Halp :)

All,
I know this has been talked about again and again and again, but I haven't quite found my answer looking through other threads. This is what I'm looking for, could one of you Rom Wh*r*s help me out. I have pretty precise wants!
1) Must be stable! No random reboots, no FC's
2) NO LAG! I don't care about scores! I don't care about how fast it is, I care about whether or not it's going to lag on me while I'm using it, or trying to make a quick call or a quick camera shot (for those moments) and not being able to
3) Battery Life MUST be at least the same as the stock rom!
4) Everything must work! I don't want a Rom where WiFi randomly disconnects, or Voice Calling doesn't work, you get the idea...
5) I really don't care about blurry or not. I use slidescreen as my primary home w/ Go Launcher as the "alternative". The slidescreen 2 beta 3 has been PERFECT for me
6) Contacts Picture integration from Facebook would be nice, as well as Picasa integration in gallery as well would be nice
7) Good Theme support. I'd like to try out a bunch of themes w/o having to load different roms.
8) A bunch of extra teaks and features would be cool too. I love to play with settings.
What do you guys think, is it out there? Basically, I'm trying to get as close to CM without actually running CM, since we can't
Up Your Moto
I'm not a rom wh*re but I installed Fission and as far as I can see it qualifies all of your requirements. Compared to standard blur it's a lot snappier and seems to give a pretty good increase in battery life. Which I think has to do with all the services that are no longer running, I've got 3 now compared to several dozen with Blur. You can also use the Fission Rom Manager to install themes for you so it's just as easy as select and install. I had a hard time deciding between all the roms out there but decided to go with this one as it seemed the closest to what I wanted; A vanilla like rom with some tweaks of improvement.

[Q] Fast ics is a real possibility?

The HD i bought had already installed a 2.2 sense in magdlr. It is fast and stable.
Im willing to change and i tried miui 2.3 in sd. Worked ok but suffered sometimes apps made it slow, showing me the chinese guy with the turtle a lot.
After this i tried tostidroid with ics v9.0. Loved ics. Apex launcher, everything. Hated the performance.
Changed to tostidroid 10.0. Usable but not for everyday use.
Now, all the questions:
1. Is having ics on this phone, with nice performance, a real possibility? Or should i just stay at 2.2, 2.3 roms?
2. When changing version of tosti from 9 to 10, i deleted the entire folder and did all the setup. Is that the right way to do it or there is a way to just "upgrade a build?
3. When looking to improve performance in tosti, tried to overclock the phone with rom control. Phone reset itself or freezes. So i should rule it out? Should i try overclocking to lower values?
4. Could my sd be the one to blame for poor rom performance?
5. During all this time i left my sense 2.2 in magdlr as a fallback. Should i just backup this rom and flash a new one directly to the internal memory?
Your thoughts?
We`re not going to have a fast ics without lags, unless if someone can port full hardware accelleration for ics in our device
im running the latest tostidroid on the NAND with dorimanx 5.6 kernel
I dont really notice any lags, only in the browser when using multiple tabs but using dolphin solves this
full HWA would be sweet but it is not really a dealbreaker
Ιn some point you are right.Ιcs is fast or even faster from gingerbread if the app you use doesnt need hw acceleration. For example in ics launcher i have lag but i havent it if i use zeam launcher.Same for default ics dialer. If i use dialer one there is no lag.Αlso i think that it scrolls better in some programms.for example in k-9 mail
So, trying so me replacements might work? I noticed the facebook app is almost unusable, mobile versión works ok. I love apex launcher, maybe should try nova? Da, twitter, baconreader seem fine. Widgets i only use simicalendar and clock. Was cable ti overclock a bit the phone and so dar looking good.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA

What do you expect from the new custom stock that I am making?

Just to know if you guys want something for my rom
Battery Life. Even Underclocking isn't increasing battery life with BORETS24's kernel, do something that'll increase the SOT ! I don't get more than 3 hours of SOT with any ROM, Kernel.
Stable gps during using waze or other gps app....no more gps lost connection plz
i would expect a simple build, with no bloadware and of course stable even with a a501cg. iirc most problem are with that device.
list of expectations(mine and the others)
- stable
- no bloadware
- simple installing/autoinstaller (there is a simple-to-customize autoinstaller mentioned in this forum)
- possible to choose gapps installing by choice in one install process.
- gps
- led functional
- battery life
Simple Rom (like a pizza without any topping. User can select toppings )
Stability (GPS, wifi, data connection, bluetooth, and of course the device itself. Sudden restart is really terrible.)
DT2W/S
Battery life
LED with color (if possible)
I'd love to have another UI. To get the CM12.1 drop-down menu instead of Asus one.
Provide and alternative to borets' kernel: it has great features, but for me was and keeps to be more battery eating (I think due to the dt2w and overclock integration) than even a stock one.

It will have the latest boret24 kernel without overclock
Installed CM12.1 your version found at windroidica website and found some bugs. Can't set contacts photos, it always says "No pictures on phone". Can't leave a comment on videos through youtube app and. No editor found in Gallery app? I need some help because I just flashed this rom yesterday.
if based on stock..
remove all bloatware..
pre rooted..
pre xposed..
g apps as separate package..
ota for future updates..
adb sideloadable..
the list is unlimited..

Poor and inconsistent performance? Lag on Nougat Roms

So I've been using Aimrom for the past 3 months and there are times with very noticeable slow down and lag. Even doing simple things like opening up the quick setttings, typing or browsing lags sometimes. At times the system will freeze up and require a force reboot. It get's really annoying.
I use Greenify and I've greenified most of the apps such as FB, insta, twitter etc. Greenify does help boost the performance and improve battery life.
When I notice slow downs I clear all recent apps, use a ram cleanup app and hibernate on greenify and everything goes back to working the way it should.
But I find myself doing that way too many times which makes it quite frustrating.
I've tried RR, Lineage and Aosp nougat roms before and in beginning everything is smooth but I noticed the same issues with those roms as well after a couple weeks of usage.
I don't remember having same problems with stock lolipop and marshamallow roms and cm13. Only with nougat roms. How's the performance on Oreo roms?
Is this a problem only with nougat roms? Is it because of the older snapdragon 410 (Z00L user btw)? Do Oreo roms have better performance? Anyone else having a similar experience?
Is it just me?
Do you have lspeed installed? Disable oom killer

I've had it disabled.
Just enabled and did some tweaks. I do notice better performance.
Thanks
Try to use custom kernel like poison or fire kernel.

Fix MIUI 11 UI Lag

Is there any way to have stable 60FPS in the homescreen? A magisk module? A custom kernel? I'm on Xiaomi.eu ROM. There is a lot of lag in the UI. I dont matter battery consumption, I just want the UI to be butter smooth.
Use aosp builds or in case you can't, use custom miui builds by different projects , like miuimix.
Try this:
https://m.apkpure.com/tvhz/eu.chainfire.tv.hz/download?from=details
Requires root.
how i root my phone and install that program? im a newbie. And is it working on Redmi Note 8?
use Xiaomi eui rom 10.9.28.+flash magsik zip+flash predictor custom karnal 4.0..your phone become butter smoth.also Super battery backup 7-7.30 hour..sometimes 8 hour..
I recommend latest MiuiMiX developer rom on android 10. It's very smooth (both UI and apps), stable and fast with great multitasking (apps open and switch literally immidiately), and has good battery backup (10h+ is not a problem).
Changing default launcher also seems to make phone smoother (I use nova launcher and the difference is noticable)
I have a pet peeve with MIUI 11, official ROM. There is this great option to schedule dark mode. But if I set dark mode for 5pm and unlock the phone at, say, 6pm, it will be switching to dark mode in front of my eyes and I will have to wait for it to finish before I can use the phone.
The way it should work, in my opinion, is by waking the phone at the scheduled time, switching to dark mode, so when I first take the phone half an hour later, it's already done.
P.S. I use Poco Launcher and haven't yet tested if this waiting time has anything to do with that. Does the default launcher behave in the same way?
