FYI- Band 12 works on T-mo - Xperia Z5 Premium General

Got my Z5 premium and Band 12 works out of the box. I have not seen any settings for Wi-fi calling, so I am assuming that will not work.

WiFi calling won't work until T-Mobile supports the phone or there is an official CyanogenMod 13 ROM for the Z5...I believe Cyanogen said CM13 would have T-Mobile WiFi calling baked in.

How does the signal compare to a regular tmo phone? Which variant did you get by the way, the E6853? I am wanting to get one but am on the fence about the variant and signal quality...

The signal quality is great. I have at times gotten LTE bands 2, 4 and 12, so I have found it quite good. I Am loving the UI and the interface. And it is the fastest 810 based phone I have had based on feel and benchmarks. Also, zero heat issues. I dont think that I have have even felt it get warm

If your in the U.S., it won't make a difference which model you get...there's extra bands on the dual sim variant but those are for Asia regions...

xperia z5 premium help
Hey quick question. Is there anyone who can help me with this issue? I have an Xperia Z5 Premium and I cant get it to work with T-Mobile LTE. I inserted my sim card, followed the procedure, restarted my phone etc. but it still doesnt show any data signal at all. Is there an additional process you have to go through. I went to the APN settings and updated it but all i get now is edge (2g) I had the Z3 before and was getting around 35-100 Mbps in my area. now i cant even load a web page. Can you (or anyone reading this) help me out. I sold my z3 just hours before my z5 came, which was a mistake since now i really cant do anything with my phone (besides use it on WiFi and call). Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
btw my phone model is Sony Xperia Z5 Premium E6853

Under preferred network type, do you have LTE (preferred) checked?
Also, in your APN settings, is your APN "fast.t-mobile.com" ?

Use something like Network Signal Info.
It's a result of the fact that in the US, carriers screwed over customers by redefining HSPA+ as "4G". Frequently referred to as Faux-G.
So when a US device reports 4G, an international device will usually just report the truth (H+)
When a US device reports LTE (because the US carriers ****ed up the definition of 4G), international devices will usually just report 4G, because in the rest of the world, 4G == LTE.
Z5P is definitely in this category. HSPA+ = H+, LTE = 4G

It depends on which firmware you are using. Most area in Euro will display 4g as LTE but they mean the same thing. I suggest you flash it to other area which display LTE instead.

I got band 12 here. What is weird is that when I show 1 to 2 bars, my wife's Nexus 6 with the same carrier will show full bars. Yet when I look at Lte Discovery, we have the same signal strength.

The signal bars can often be wrong. They give false signal information

You can check with TechMode (Sony's band checker app).
It's in oem.sin of Customized UK and I deodexed Z5 one:

After placing it to /system/app, chmod 644 and reboot, you can open TechMode with dialing *#*#*386#*#*

Who is using a Verizon G2 on T-Mobile?

I just learned that the Verizon version comes SIM unlocked and should work on T-Mobile and AT&T. Anyone here using it on T-Mobile? What are your results? I know LTE is a no-go, but do you get decent speeds in a refarmed area? I can't find any T-Mobile versions on Craigslist, but there are a ton of Verizon versions for pretty cheap so I was thinking of snatching one up if you guys have had any luck.

Actually I'm pretty sure u can use lte on Tmo as they use aws bands for lte which is one of the 2 bands the vzw model supports. If u go to the g2 Wikipedia page it shows compatible bands for all varients
the definition of open: “mkdir android ; cd android ; repo init -u git:// android.git.kernel.org/platform/manifest.git ; repo sync ; make" gansta mic drop
Instead of creating a new thread I decided to bump yours.
While I still have unlimited data on Verizon, I know it won't last forever, so I bought a SIM and activated it on the $30/mo plan. Today is the first day with it, and while I don't get coverage at work which I already knew, GPRS and EDGE seem to work, just very, very slowly. I went into an LTE area and I did not have LTE, but had HSPA+ and as I drove away it switched to HSPA, then back to EDGE. While on HSPA+ I ran two speed tests, pings were around 60ms but the download speed was about 1-1.5Mbps, and upload was well under 1Mbps.
I'm running CM 10.2 (CM11 has BT issues for me), does anyone else use their Verizon phone on T-Mobile and gets better speeds? Last year I bought a Nexus 4 and in a close location I got 15-20Mbps on HSPA+, so I think it's something with this phone.
I also noticed that despite being connected to GPRS, EDGE, or HSPA+ in about phone it says the signal strength is -120dBm and doesn't move.
I think the G2 doesn't have the AWS LTE bands enable yet. Maybe in a future update.

How much time did you need to give it, and are there any modes that need to be enabled? I'm on stock ROM with 12b but can't seem to get past HSPA. If switch the phone to LTE/CDMA, it doesn't find any service but will find HSPA when in Global mode.
My Verizon S4 would find T-Mobile LTE when switched to LTE/CDMA, but wouldn't find the GSM networks unless switched to Global. Using the phone info app, I was able to set it to LTE/GSM auto PRL, but that app doesn't seem to work for the G2.

I had some odd connection display issues with the stock rom from verizon.
It seems to try to check for it cdma network. And the annoying ?Sim Simbol.
I just flashed the t-mobile stock rom with the flex patch.
Been using it as if its a tmobile phone.
Blazingfast stable and it was dirt cheap.

So I've got a similar question, but if I got a verizon version of this phone (due to cost - the verizon one sells for ~30-50 cheaper) can I use it with straight talk for data/talking/text/mms/etc.? Or does ONLY data work when using an ATT/T Mobile sim?
My plan is to use the phone with a ATT straight talk sim card.
This is a nice bit of information considering ill be switching to T-mobile next month... so your telling me i just pop a T-mo sim in this g2 and boom thats the end of it?

Yes u can. Just bypass the activation screen with that "volume upvdown combo"(search for instructions) and u can use with verizon stock rom.
No sim unlock needed.
Flashing will make it easier to deal with stock bloatware.
Since verizon ware is pretty deep integrated.

I'm excited now, I will get verizon G2.. I always wanted to G2 since it came out but I had Optimus G in April 2013.. their service sucks ass >.< I just wanted a better coverage since in Hampton Roads there's more Verizon and T-mobile LTE coverage. Can you tell me if you are getting HSPA+ in non-refarmed areas? Thinking of picking one up but not sure if I'll get HSPA+ in the 1700 areas... Just not a lot of 1900 around here.

I think It uses 1700 for the 4G ?
But when i venture towards Louisiana I loose stable 4G and i get 3G. (But then its like Ghost town of GSM towers there)
I reside in Houston Area at the moment where most parts of it are 4G/H+/LTE
The Version i want to get my hands on is the D805 it seems to match 2 antennas from T-Mobile if its the same mhz no idea.

Wow... Thanks so much. I really appreciate it.
The funny thing is even the specifications for the T-Mobile variant say nothing about 1700 either. They only talk about 1900. Yet, mine obviously works in non-refarmed areas.
You don't notice that you can't get HSPA+ less than anyone with a T-Mo device, right? All I want is for it to work just as well, not better.

It wouldn't work any worse than a Normal Tmobile phone from what I have noticed.
It does work better than a AT&T iPhone 4S variant used on Tmobile when it comes to Data.
It seems to be getting about the same performance in Data than the iPhone 5 T-Mobile Variant.
There are areas where the iPhone 5 Picks up 4G faster, there are areas where LG G2 is Faster in Download speed. (Basic Difference between phones)
But normal use I have no issues, I have not taken LG G2 on an international Trip yet.
I do use 4G Data Alot I jsut reached my 2gb mark for the month with 8 days to go.

OnePlus One on UK Network Three.

So before I got my OPO I did a lot of reading on which networks it works on etc.
I was going to take the plunge and go for EE as that was the only network with 100% working in the UK.
However there was some temptation to go for 3 (unlimited data) but it wasn't 100% working according to reports, so I took the gamble.
I just created this topic to let people know if they are in the same boat as me.
I have H/H+ almost everywhere and 4G works perfectly where you would expect it to.
The issue lies with the slower connections...
There is no G, there is no E, and no 3G. Anything below H is unavailable.
This doesn't bother me too much as if I don't have H or better I find it tedious to use anyway!
Like I said, just a quick heads up in case you didn't want to take the gamble yourself.
GPRS and Edge are 2g, which the Three network does not support anyway, so regardless of phone you will not get GRPS / Edge on Three.
Three used to let you roam on the Orange network a few years ago where it was possible to get 2g services in certain areas Three had no coverage, however i don't think this is the case anymore now.
Edit: Apparently in some rural areas you can still roam on EE for calls and texts, however not data.
I can also confirm the One Plus works perfectly fine on Three, i get HSPA / HSPA everywhere, and even 4g at work. I imagine its possible to get just 3g too, however i've never had anything lower than HSPA at home or where i work even on my older phones for many years. Its been very rare i've only had 3g on Three.
So far on a 4g speedtest i've had 30mbps download and 22mbps upload, very impressed! :good:

I'm guessing you're in a city where the 4G isn't on the 800mhz band (not supported by OPO apparently)

How is the Internet speed in London on three? I saw on three till last year and had the worst speeds at my work place near Liverpool Street.. Moved to giffgaff and happy with 3g speeds but tempted to give three a try again just for the sake of 4g.
I can get 3G, H/H+ and 4G on Three. They do have a 3G network but most of the time it will use H/H+ instead as the signal is basically the same and the phone prefers H/H+ due to it being faster.
I haven't used the phone in the country, and I don't think I will be able to anyway
Is it possible to check which towns/cities are covered by specific bands to see if 4G would work in the area?

They are fine mate. Taken this morning in East London. I'm happy with these speeds, have to bare in mind London is very congested so we won't see crazy 50+ speeds until the network further improves but I'm happy with these speeds.
I've had good speeds around Euston, Central, whilst on the tube in signalled areas generally around my area East they are more than fine.

Enable roaming - you won't get charged any extra while in the UK, and it will allow you to call and text on EE (this connectivity is part of Three's network - they only offer a 3G+ network, so they let you roam on EE where they don't have coverage).
I've tried 4g in Midlands and Yorkshire and it works perfectly well.

T-Mobile Z3 connected to Band 12 (I think)

Hi Folks,
I've been talking to a few people on Howard Forums who think this is impossible, but now on several different occasions, LTE Discovery has shown my phone as being connected to Band 12. This is a stock, D6616 which is currently showing Bands 2 and 4 as active in the service screen and NOT Band 12. Can this be possible? I was able to pull over, stay connected and run a speed test on Band 12 which showed 10mbps download, which sounds about right given that it's just a 5mhz channel. Oh, and this was in San Jose, CA and then Cupertino/Saratoga, CA. Another weird issue is that, I don't believe the Channel 51 interference has been solved here.
So, I'm not trying to spread misinformation but could it be that the T-Mobile Z3 actually has Band 12 out of the box? Or, is LTE Discovery simply inaccurate and this is all just a dream?

That may just be wrong, I pretty sure it has to be turned on via an update. Sprint did the same with the G2.
If you are in Cupertino/San Francisco, I believe T-Mobile does not have permission to use band 12 in your area. They have to make a deal with the local TV station to get them off 51.
T-Mobile Band 12 spectrum Map, current state:
https://sites.google.com/site/cellularbinder/t-mobile-700a-spectrum
I thought the whole reason (besides to LOCK OUR BOOTLOADERS) that T-Mobile has its own variant is that it supports Band 12. I know mine has had band 12 in some areas where I live for a while now.
They have band 12 in my area too, in Minneapolis if you look at the band 12 spectrum map, but until it's finished testing they won't push the OTA update to your phone to enable it. Sprint did the same, they eventually sent an OTA enabling their third band. Though with the G2 you could still enable even without it using the Hidden Settings menu, which is crippled on the D6616, probably on TMOs wishes.
Two things amaze me about this situation:
1) The Samsung devices on T-Mobile (and LG for that matter) are usually bootloader unlocked. Why must T-Mobile force Sony to lock all the bootloaders? It's very odd as usually T-Mobile is the best carrier on that front. Sorry, I know this is off-topic.
2) Why would the Note 4 already support Band 12 and they didn't demand that Samsung lock that one out?
@lunaandres: Are you saying your T-Mobile Z3 has connected to Band 12? How did you verify it? More info would be fantastic.
Thanks,
-Collin-
Tmobile announced today that the Z3 is getting the band 12 I update in may. Can't post the link because I'm a noon.

Definitely not enabled on my Z3, I live in Akron... So it should be available everywhere I go.
Hoping it fixes my dependency on Wifi-Calling at work...
I definitely enjoy 50mbps downloads atm though, can't imagine what I'd do with faster speeds lol

Does that officially mean that Sony's lollipop update for Xperia Z3 D6616 will be released in May 2015? Ugh.
Sadly, I proved my own theory and wishes wrong yesterday and just wanted to update you guys.
I drove over to the same spot where I regularly see Band 12 on LTE Discovery and I popped my T-Mobile SIM into my Verizon Tablet Z2. We know for a fact that there is no Band 12 support on that tablet, yet sure enough LTE Discovery reported Band 12 loud and clear.
Bummer, definitely not a Band 12 siting on my devices. Sad

No, D6633 does not support Band 12, the D6616 supports it but just needs to be enabled.

Does Z3 D6616 really connect to band 12?
I know that back in June T-Mobile enabled band 12 for Z3, but when I check T-Mobile's page where it lists devices that are compatible with band 12, Xperia Z3 is not on the list: http://www.t-mobile.com/optional-services/coverage-phones-700.html

Its probably a mistake on the website, it works. In fact I actually disable bands 2 &4 so I am always on band 12 which gives me full signal and hence greater battery life. Speeds will be lower though as TMO has less spectrum on that band.

I have tried that,so when I disable LTE bands 2 and 4, my phone connects to 4G bands, but if I disable 4G, then there is no service. I guess the area where I was, doesn't have band 12 available yet. I will try it again. By the way do you know, in which case phone should connect to band 12? Is it only when there is not band 2/4 around?
Then I suppose you live in an area without Band 12 Support or maybe its only in testing in a few places near you?
It should connect to Band 12 when the other two bands drop too low, I get 2-3 bars on 2&4 and when it goes to one bar then it switches to Band 12 which then shows full signal.

I checked the map of where T-Mobile has band 12 and found 3 locations(all within 20 min driving from each other) The only thing is that band 2 and 4 in these areas are really good, never go below 4 bars. I will try to disable all bands except band 12 and see if phone will connect. When I work, phone isn't getting LTE inside the building, but 3 or 4G is there, but data doesn't go through for some reason. That is where I would need band 12

Preferred Network Type: Global vs. LTE

I was snooping around in the settings and noticed my preferred network type is set to "global" even though one of the options is labeled "LTE (recommended)".
My LTE data seems to be flowing smoothly I just don't want to miss out on any LTE bands (Sprint) or waste battery life.
Here is the pathway to the setting:
settings->wireless & networks->more->cellular networks->preferred network type
Thanks for any info or thoughts on the matter! Love this phone!!! :victory:
That's weird I only see 3 options lte,3g and 2g

LTE
3G

Global
I wonder if it is a Sprint thing :/

Well, I just did some speed tests using Sensorly and Ookla Speed Test apps and I get much better LTE down/up with the selection "LTE (recommended)". I will do more tests at different locations but it was night and day going from global to LTE.
Is there an app that does not require root that shows what LTE band you are on?
I'm on verizon. Under "preferred network" I have
global / LTE-CDMA / LTE-GSM-UMTS
I do have verizon 4G LTE, but does that mean I do not have verizon 3G?

I have been on Verizon network, due to my work for almost 3+ years now. The only time, I had to mess with those settings was while I am Traveling international. In the US, switching those should not make any difference. Just make sure, you have the enhanced LTE toggle turned on to connect to XLTE.

My 6p on Verizon shows global, CDMA LTE or GSM LTE. After getting fed up with my LTE dropping constantly I just tried (about 5 minutes ago) switching it to GSM LTE even though I know Verizon is CDM just to see what would happen. My phone went from no service to full LTE instantly. Really weird no idea why that would happen. Then in the middle of writing this post phone dropped LTE again. I went and switched it back to CDMA LTE and now I have full LTE again.
It seems like when you are traveling and you hit a dead spot switching the network preference resets the phone signal and it finds a closer tower or something works either way you switch. That is my two cents.
2G, 3G, LTE (recommended) are the only selections I have on my phone. I'm using WETA 8.4 and on cricket wireless, which btw has a $70 plan where I get unlimited everything - no cap on data...I literally stream Hulu/Netflix without any interruption. I stopped using major cellular companies when I was getting screwed with hidden data fee's <AT&T> was always notorious for charging 20 bucks after so many gigs...Also I'm paying a third less than what most of friends are, but if has it's disadvantages too.

My experience after 24 hours on TMobile in NYC

I received my Mi Mix (6Gb/256Gb) yesterday morning.
I had an update to CN Stable 8.0.11.0 waiting for me shortly after getting wifi setup and inserting my Project Fi Sim into the holder. After the update and a reboot I installed Google Play services directly from the Mi store and after a reboot installed and updated all my critical Gapps and services. I applied the battery and memory management de-optimizations recommended here in various threads and followed the five step process outlined in the Forbes article to make sure I'm getting notifications.
I then installed critical email, note taking, Todo and social media apps and changed out default apps to one's that I prefer (Google Play Music, Snap Camera, etc).
LTE Discovery shows I'm on Band 4, Speedtest (ping of 29 ms) 18.8 Mbps Download and 8.45 Mbps upload speeds.
Some thoughts:
I can't stress enough how different and futuristic this device feels and how much fun it is to use even for those of us who flip phones frequently. It's density and construction materials give it a very high quality feeling. I don't think I've felt such visceral excitement in how a smartphone feels in the hand since the first iPhone or Nexus phone. It definitely feels better in the hand than the SG7 Edge, Pixel and the iP7+
The screen is gorgeous! I can't stress this enough, It's luminance and color reproduction make you think it's Amoled.
This is the slipperiest device I've ever held. A case is mandatory. But it's really pleasant to hold with the included case.
The camera app is crap. Snap Camera gives you better results, but not having OIS here can lead to blurry photos even in good light.
The inline audio jack gives high quality sound reproduction for a smartphone. It's no competitor for an Astell & Kern player, but I had very nice soundstage, instrument separation and musicality with my Shure SE843's.
Bluetooth connectivity is excellent. 20-30 feet with a pair of Bragi Dash and over 40 feet with Bose QC35s before I had drop off or choppiness.
Excellent Wifi strength and connectivity. I'm guessing that the ceramic case is the hero here.
The Snapdragon 821 is very fast and capable, with the 6Gb of RAM 30+ apps and Chrome with 20 tabs without any lag.
Over the next couple of days I'll follow the process outlined but others to unlock, install CN Dev, install TWRP, and may flash EU Stable. It's still not clear to me which ROM is providing the best experience in the US so far from reading through the various threads here. any guidance or thoughts from those of you who have gone through the process is appreciated.
Happy to answer any questions anyone might have, but a lot of the water front has been covered by other members
Best
J

So I set up phone a little more with the optimizations and gapps. Data is working fine so I guess don't need the APN. Also got launcher to stick as default. Thanks

All I did was put in the SIM and did a reboot on the device. It doesn't get 4g but it's solid 3g and 1x which is great for voice and SMS. I use Tmobs for data, I get 4g around 30-40 down and 12-17 up. This is the best of both worlds. I have unlimited data with Tmobs for $20 on my buddy's account. Plus, I'm not sold on VoLTE with VZW anyhow. Really the only good feature is being able to use data and voice together. With the Mix and dual SIMs I have that anyways.

Great report thank you!
I'm guessing you had the VZW Sim in the first slot and the TMob Sim in the second? When I tried both Sims I was relegated to H+ (decrease of 25 Mbps D/12Mbps U) and no ability to dial out on VZW in NYC.
I'm in Detroit. Tmobs in slot 1 & VZW in slot 2. If you go into settings and the first one is the SIM card & mobile networks. You can choose how to utilize the SIMs.
