Backup EFS before modding? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, do i need to backup my EFS folder with Motorola before starting modding? If yes, how to do that?
My last phone was a Samsung Galaxy S3, i don't know how it works with Moto X Style.
Thanks

yes, good idea
from what i know backup can be made only with custom recovery TWRP, here under backup there is the option to save EFS

yeah really strange...
this is my first non samsung phone, moto x style is different from sammy is more similar to a nexus device, no AP,CP,CSC but only different rom for differet region.
EFS partition contain imei and other important data for phone to work so i think is best to take care

Yeah, always take care of EFS partition, it's very important
Tomorrow i'm gonna unlock bootloader, install twrp, make efs backup with recovery and then root the phone

I just looked in TWRP and did not see the option to backup EFS.

under backup menu you can select which partition you want to save (data, cache, system, efs)

Galaxy I9505 with IMEI null. I need help

Hi, my brother in law bought this galaxy I9505 but was carrier locked, so he thought it was good idea to give the phone to someone to perform an unlock with software, not with imei. The guy messed up the EFS or something like that since the imei its null and does not recognize any sim card. Im reading the forum but I have not find any solution. He didn't back up the efs folder, just did a dd backup but we dont know if we can do something with that. He also have a backup on kies but kies don't recognize the phone maybe because all codes (product vendor etc) are wiped.
If someone managed to solve this I would appreciate sharing the solution.
Thanks
Try flashing the original stock rom again. Your friend must have flashed the wrong varient.

I flashed the phone with the stock rom, not the one that came with the since its from chile (entel). I dont know where I can get that rom but what I read thats because a failed flash
according to my research your stock firmware isn't released yet.. i also think your phone EFS got corrupted because may be he tried to mess with nvdata files to unlock.. so its always safe to take a backup of EFS and i don't think flashing a stock firmware can recover EFS if this happened due to EFS issue... goodluck

Exactly, the guy who messed this was trying to unlock the cell phone without an unlocking code, now the cell phone its just an expensive samsung player... I'm still waiting for a solution like the galaxy I9305, if not I guess samsung can repair it at some cost :crying:

You save it in a safe place. If you ever have a corrupted efs partition you can use adb to flash the backup you made.

After updating to the 5.1.1, i made another backup from the twrp 2.8.7.1 recovery. Am i ok or i need to do a backup with your tool? Thanks for answer.

To make things worse: I used wanam's backup and restore and an 1:1 copies with root-explorer. Neighter of them worked. Still figuring out why odin didn't flash.... stopped at cm.bin everytime.

Maybe read some first?
Backup your data to sd or pc. Photos, contacts etc..
You will lose warranty.
Twrp is a good recovery
Flash supersu with twrp to gain root access. Or flash with odin.
