Nexus 6p WiFi tether problems - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I bought a nexus 6p and have rooted it. The reason for rooting is for the tether feature. I'm grandfathered in on Verizon's unlimited data so that's why tethering is a big deal. Each app I try doesn't work but I know I have root access. Help anyone?

The 2 apps I have tried are barnacle and open garden.

Did you try the built in Tether feature? to see if that works, via USB?

I do not have tethering as part of my plan at vzw.

I normally use open garden to ovoid tethering cost.

You don't need it for this device.
It just works. No need for those other apps.

Won't it charge since I don't have tethering as part of my plan?

3g Mobile Hotspot

So I found a patch that lets you use the 3g mobile hotspot for free. I was just wandering if anyone else has tried it, and if so were you ever charged for anything extra on your bill.
I like being able to use my phone with Infrastructure Wifi but dont want to be charged for something I can do for free.
When I say 3g Mobile Hotspot I mean the app that comes with the droid 2 originally and also uses your phone in infrastructure.
Here is the site I found the patch on: http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/android-hacks/5156-tbh-droid-3g-hotspot-nvram-hack.html
Why not just use the free wifi tether apk provided by google?

This is in the Droid 2 information directory but I think the link is to droidforums. Anyway thanks for the link I haven't tried it myself though.

Because this allows for actually using Infrastructure mode instead of just Ad Hoc.
And I was just wandering if anyone has used this and not recieved any flak from Verizon? Rather not use this for a month and get an extra 50 dollars added to my bill.
i have verizon since crackberry 8130 was cool with no-pay tethering and i've used my droid eris for tethering and my data was at 1.4gb one month with no vz flack. haven't had usb tethering on my d2. I am curious about getting wifi hotspot enabled.

I downloaded Barnicle Wi-Fi tethering and it works decently. However, after downloading PDAnet, all I do now is USB tether. It much more efficient and stays connected. Barnicle would sometimes flak off and get down to 0kbs but haven't had that problem with PDA.

Can you USB Tether unrooted on VZW?

Hey guys and gals. Just looking at getting an M and was wondering if you can USB Tether, unrooted, without the Verizon Provisions message popping up asking you to sign up for hotspot.
Thanks.

You can on the share everything plans. Not sure about unlimited but I'd assume no.

Okay, and it would be on an unlimited line. I remember on both my Nexus and Razr I could USB tether w/out the paid hotspot feature. (G/F's phone....I pay for the mobile hotspot on my line). Thanks for the info, either way. :good:

I'm sure someone with an unlimited plan will chime in and give a definitive answer.

There is no entitlement on the USB tethering feature and it actually loads a RNDIS driver in windows when you select the option for USB tethering. It shares the connection with the PC without a DUN connection and does not use the tethered NAI for external data.
Short answer, yes it is free without root to tether over USB or Bluetooth.

simple way to see: look on the market for an app called FoxFi....if you can see it, you can use it...that simple...been using it since I got my maxx and it works famously
you can also just Root the thing and go that way..but again, I'm not sure what an "M" is, so I could be way off...lol=

SM-N900V Note 3 with Lollipop 5.0, rootable?, need tethering!

I just got this phone used and of course it has been updated.
So basically if it is anything like the rest of verizon's locked bootloader crap, unrootable. But I haven't followed this phone so I don't know if that is actually the case..
All I really want is unlimited tethering. :good:
Any advice and help is totally appreciated!
WiFi Tether supposed works on Lollipop. Unless you have a grandfathered unlimited data plan you can use the Verizon hotspot app as tethering is included in the tiered data plans....but obviously uses data against your limit

So far this phone is unrootable... I got it as a gift,it was used and had gotten the update. I have tried everything and every method I could find to root it.. I kept my s3 (which is rooted) just so I could use zanti and all those types of apps. WiFi tethering and the Hotspot is good to go without root however. Just hate to use my data.

Use Foxfi app. It works like a charm for both WiFi and USB tethering.

FoxFi Tethering on Nougat?

Hey guys, the OTA update hit my phone, but I haven't installed it yet. For those who have, does FoxFi tethering work? If I can't tether, then I'll be stuck on 6.0.1
Just downloaded and i can confirm it is not working as of yet.

Based on what I read it pretty much never will work. It has to do with an exploit that was used to hijack a setting to get tethering to work.
Is there a way to prevent the phone from updating, or at least get rid of the nag screen?
me too....help
My kid and I both have S7, he unfortunately updated to Nougat. No foxfi for him. But we do have unlimited data, the new plan. Verizon is only carrier to give 10g of hot spot tethering, he uses it as if he still had foxfi. There are no overage charges. He games, Alot. No complaints.
The tethering on my phone has always worked never had to use foxfi just turn on the mobile hotspot and connect with whatever device you need connected I use this for online gaming on ps4 and youtube videos at night

I believe tethering is included when you have a tiered data plan. Those of us with an older grandfathered unlimited data plan, we needed FoxFi to tether to avoid the $30+- charge. Now Verizon requires us to select the new unlimited data plan (that throttles at 22gb) to even pay to use tethering.

It's not really throttled it just puts you second to lower data users on the same tower that you are connected to I guess I don't experience the slow down because of where I live but even in the big cities neer me I still get full speed but I understand being on the grandfathered plans I was too at one time then I got a family lol

Does anyone know how to hide tethering on t-mobile?

I have the t-mobile one unlimited plan that is limited to 10gb tethering. Does anyone know how to hide it so that I can bypass that limit without being throttled? I am rooted btw.
Thanks!
I use FoxFi on my phone with PDANet on my PC. PDAnet masks the tethering data as regular data.
