Camera error - Droid Turbo 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got my Droid Turbo 2 delivered today from Moto Maker and I have to say it's almost perfect.
Unfortunately, I am getting a error message when I try to access the camera. The message just says that there was an error and the camera must restart. Has anybody else seen this?

Yeah, I hope it's not a big thing because I'm liking the phone way more than I thought I would. You can't beat having a battery you don't have to worry about for most of the day.
I was able to get the camera working by force closing the camera app, clearing both the cache and data and then rebooting. I still don't know what the cause was, but hopefully it won't reoccur.

Ive noticed I cant use the camera if battery saver is on

Are you using Nova? I installed Nova immediately and had the same issue because the shortcut it defaulted to was not the Moto camera app. Replaced the home screen one with the app drawer one and it worked fine.

I'm using Nova, but that wasn't my issue. It was occurring no matter how I accessed the camera. The issue is resolved though, so its all good.

Glad to hear it. Hopefully it doesn't come back

The day I purchased my phone after a couple of uses with the front facing camera it just stopped working. When I would try to switch to it I would get an error message. After a restart the button to switch to it had disappeared. I also thought it was maybe because of Nova launchers camera shortcut not defaulting to the correct app. However I tried everything I could think of. Clear cache force stop disable re-enable restart factory reset. Nothing worked. Had to take it back. Haven't had any problems with the replacement. The first one did however have a quite noticeable shaking sound which I thought was some sort of sensor but after getting my new one I believe the front facing camera may have had a loose connection to the motherboard and then became disconnected.

Did you clear the cache in the recovery menu, I had that problem with the Droid Bionic years ago. That fixes majority of camera issue.

I did try that but still had no luck and even booted into safe mode to make sure it wasn't a third party app causing the issue and the camera still didn't work So i figured it was a hardware issue.

Factory Reset?

Did you get a replacement by mail? If so was it new or just a refurbished phone. I only asked since mine started acting up the night of the 14 days return policy when the store was closes and was advised that it would be replaced by mail.

no luck , after MM update still back camera is not working....

What's wrong with my camera?

The camera on my evo used to work fine. Within the last week or two I've had a problem with it not opening. It just shows a picture of the camera and then shows a black screen.
I've read that it could be caused by apps that use the camera but I have none. I did a reset on my phone and that did nothing either. How can I fix this!?

by picture of the camera then black screen, what do you mean?
the camera works for a moment, or that just the camera button shows up then nothing?
If a hard reset doesnt work, that means its hardware related, not software. Take it to sprint and have then look at if and give you a replacement.
hope this helps.
intially i had that problem too took it into sprint and found out it was advanced task killer that was interferring with my camera. after that had been taken off a couple months down the road my video camera stopped working, but my camera was fine. trial and error it turns out the new google maps is what's messing with it. always check what apps you've recently updated and uninstall those updates, just back track till the camera works again

Try clearing the camera data by going to settings, applications, manage applications, and click on the camera app and then clear data.
Also are you rooted and what ROM are you using? Maybe you can just reflash the ROM.
I was rooted with stock sense but I unrooted after the hard reset didnt work.
Also, I bought my evo through bestbuy, can I still go to a Sprint store and get a replacement? I don't have phone insurance either.

It could be the Kernel you are using, if you have a newer hardware version with a new camera/driver then flash a Kernel that supports the new hardware/driver.
I hope this helps My friend had this same problem and he fixed it buy flashing a new Kernel. Good luck.
Edit: Never mind I just reread your last post and seen you unrooted and still have the problem. So yeah your best bet would be to call Sprint.

Camera inverted (upside down) with CM7.

Hey guys.
I've been using CM7 for about a month now, currently in the 010911 Nightly.
Everthing was fine until this past week, when the camera of my phone started to have strange freezes and lags. Then, one time, it FCed and when I turned it back on, the display was inverted, and colors were all strange and washed off.
I've rebooted, cleaned the data, etc, etc, and nothing fix the issue. Keep in mind that there's nothing with the tilt sensor. It's something software related.
I remember seeing a fix for a similar problem a while back, but I searched this hole forum and couldn't find anything, so, I beg for your help.
Thanks a lot!
Sorry for the bump, guys. But I really need some light with this problems.
Try clearing Camera app data or switch to another nightly.

Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately, I already tried both things you suggested, with no luck.
Not sure if it has anything to do with it, but is the boot mode set to 2nd init by default ?!
You can also try using other camera apps like Vignette.

dude, we are on the same boat. Tell me when u find a solution.
A temporary fix which i m not sure till when its gonna last but is working for the moment.
open camera, leave it opened and pull the battery. put the battery again after 2 mins and see if it helps you. Its working for me at the moment but dont know the logic behind the process.
I already got my camera hardware replaced but this problem happened again just after rooting the phone.
I have the same problem and I'm almost sure it is a hardware failure. Maybe after a shock or drop. I'll open my unit this week and see what's wrong. Did some of you manage to fix it?
I've even tried flashing full stock sbf without success, so I'd blame the camera module.

Camera FC: "Warning: Camera Failed"

Anyone else receive a Camera Failed popup as soon as you open the camera app? I get this now and I cannot use the camera at all.
Here is what I have tried:
- Force Stop, Clear Data, Clear Cache, and Clear Defaults
- Clear Cache Partition in Recovery
- Factory Reset through Settings
- Factory Reset through Recovery
- Installed 3rd party camera app
None of these have worked. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Oh yeah... I took out my SD card as well to make sure that wasn't causing the issue
Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I had that happen to one of mine. Did you install, Instagram or snapchat? I contacted Samsung and they had me doo all kinds of things the Las they had me doo was preform a hard key reset which is didn't then a factory reset, so they say, they say it errors everything like brand new no trace of anything, here are steps if you want to try them, it didn't work for me,I am going retrain device fir a new one, but might work for you.
Here are the steps on how to perform Hard Key Reset on your device. 1. Power the device off (remove and re-insert the battery). 2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key. 3. When the device vibrates; release only the Power key. 4. When the Android system recovery menu displays; release the Volume Up and the Home key. 5. Navigate with the Volume keys to the wipe data/factory reset option and press the Power key to select. 6. Navigate with the Volume keys to Yes-delete all user data option and press the Power key to select. 7. After user data deletes, press the Power key to reboot system now.
Yeah I tried the factory reset through recovery... it was a no go. So after all this I still haven't gotten the camera to work. What's really strange is after all this testing I thought I'd try another third party camera (pudding camera)... it allows me to use the front camera, but as soon as I switch to rear it goes black then fc's if I hit the shutter button.
I'm thinking I just have a bad camera. I think that i have done everything possible to eliminate the possibility of fault by software.
Luckily I'm still within 15 days to return to best buy.

I had this happen to my GS5 last week after using it for about 5 days.
- I cleared app cache and data.
- Factory reset with SD card in
- Factory reset with no SD card
- Factory reset without adding my Google account in and went straight to the camera.
All no dice. I took it back to Best Buy mobile and their Samsung Experience Rep Flashed the factory binaries from an image (something similar to Odin) Factory reset. Still camera failed in the camera app and any app that uses the camera. IN fact if you try to open the camera in any other app like messaging etc. etc. it will force close that specific app and cause you to clear cache in said app.
Samsung tech said it was definitely hardware related and promptly gave me a new phone.
There is another thread here in Q&A with others experiencing the same issue. Either a bad batch or something larger is looming.
FWIW. It worked fine for a few days...

I am hoping this isnt a larger issue than a few bad 'apples'. Pun intended
-Lil'
I am having the same issue.. Tried all of the solutions mentioned. I had to have Verizon order me a new unit.. Wont ship until 4/24..
I am now real curious how many are experiencing this... maybe time to wake the PR beast in Droid-Life with a little tip if its more than the suspect few. Sounds to me like a larger issue.
-Lil'
Tried to return my release day S5 today because of bad camera at the Verizon, but couldn't the store told me it was the 5th one today they got in for the same reason, so it looks like we have a huge problem on our hands!I have to wait for them to get a shipment of new phones in to get a replacement, they noted my account just incase it goes over the 14 days.
I'm gonna shoot Droid Life a message a d see if we can get some coverage on this issue.

Flashlight app camera fix
I have this issue on my note 3. I temporary "fixed" it by installing a flash light app and turning it on then off. I wonder if that'll work for the gs5
Yep... same looking issue however nothing that worked on the Note 3 has worked to resolve this.

Good lookin' out. I just exchanged mine at best buy. The Samsung person hanging around said they had heard of a couple of others that came in recently.
Hopefully this one doesn't have the same issue after a week.
Just curious, anyone having this issue also happen to switch to ART instead of Dalvik?
I had not switched mine.... I was still on Dalvik.
Annnd thankfully I didn't win that Ebay Auction. Will wait until July for new contract and less Headaches. Hope those affected get the phones fixed.
This would be huge IF no software solution. Hopefully it is a bad batch and not an issue with the design and impacts all devices.
I guess I can forget a 32gb Verizon version now. They will not add additional models until they figure this out.
I'm now having this issue on my sprint variant. Have tried everything I can.
Might be nice to track SKUs to see if there is a connection. Just got 2 s5s today. Camera works out of the box on the white one

Same for me... Home button died.
I also fasing strange problems with my fp
Ok, joining the club guys. Mine went dead yesterday. And drying/reseting didnt worked. So, if anyone of you find out something. Seems to be hardware fault actually.
Mine was a hardware fault too. They just replaced my phone.
Happened to me a few weeks ago. Wiping the system partition on mine seemed to fix it. It worked for me and one other person but it could have just been a coincidence though because a 3rd person said it didn't work for them.
I have an online remote appointment with someone from OnePlus Techs level 2 next week, they are probably gonna check logs and console of the phone to ensure if it is a SW fault.
So far I have tried wiping cache of com.oneplus.fingerprint, wiping cache from recovery, wiping data and cache from recovery...
It seems to be a HW fault, because none of the SW resets have worked.
Yesterday I have also tried fingerprint autotest from menu at *#808# and it sates "FAILED". So, I guess thats it.
So I recommend trying out the test function, if it shows not failed, it could be only a stupid SW glitch and wiping cache should help you.
Anyone from OP is pretty far away from me, I am currently in the middle of europe, so I have no idea how to deal with returns/refunds/replacements, any experiences with that?

OP Technician remotely reflashed my OnePlus with new updated drivers and now fingerprint works, they asked me to stay in touch and in case of any further issues they are going to take care of repairment etc.
So, maybe the hope is not lost, I am still not sure if it was HW or SW issue, but I recommend you to open a ticket and make an appointment too. Those guys are very willing to help you.
We were done in like half an hour.

Well sure, I was pretty direct and straight, because I was kind of angry when my FP stopped working, so I have waited line in "Live Chat" at oneplus website.
(oneplus.net -> Support section -> bottom of page)
You have two possibilities, complain in the live chat or submit ticket via internet form.
It took few days of waiting for the technician, but they have helped me, so it is worth the wait.
Good luck!

After loosing the fingerprint scanner once for about 3 days until it just started working again and lost it again after about 2 months of no problems until 2 days ago when I lost it again.
This is what worked out for me.
1.I disabled the fingerprint option.
2.Turned off the on screen buttons.
3. Reboot into recovery
4. Clear cache
5. Reboot
6. Home button is working again!!! ??

I haven't had an issue with this myself just to clarify and I'm not sure if you tried already or not but just thought I'd throw this out there because it's the first thing I'd try, have you tried going into Settings - Apps and clearing out the data and cache on the camera app and then rebooting first before checking to see if it fixed the problem? If you have already but it didn't fix it unfortunately I wouldn't know what else to tell ya unless you're rooted, and to be honest I can't remember if the Sprint V20 has been rooted or not. Anyway hope it helps.
