Galaxy S4 i9505 suddenly shows "No Service" - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All
OK... for years I have been using an S4 and been really pleased with it (UK model i9505 SIM locked to EE Network).
Recently I was given a Note3, so have been using this with my EE Sim and left the S4 sitting in a drawer for a few weeks.
This week I ported my number from UK EE to UK Vodafone - so the original contract SIM which I had in my S4 is no longer available to try as it has been disconnected!
Anyway - I sold my S4 to a friend for her son for Xmas and I thought I should wipe it before giving it to her. I had Android 4.4.2 with CWM and also had CerberusApp rolled in the ROM so when a factory reset/wipe was done CerberusApp would still be there. However after doing a wipe I inserted a PAYG EE SIM and it says no service and shows a no entry sign on the top bar. When I put in a Vodafone PAYG SIM or O2 PAYG SIM it shows strength of signal (i.e. no 'no entry' sign) but says that the phone is network locked - which is correct!
But I cant work out why the EE SIM (which is the correct network) wont work. I have tried the EE PAYG SIM in my unlocked Note3 and it all works OK - so I know it cant be a SIM problem.
In desperation I upgraded the O/S to Android 5.0 using Kies and all seems OK but still the same problem. I have checked the IMEI is all OK (*#06#) and its all good - so I am lost why this wont work. Its almost as though the phone has been barred on EE - but its my phone, bought from a work colleague, so not reported lost etc so there is no reason it should be barred.
Can anyone throw in some ideas, or even let me know if there is a way to remove carrier lock on the S4 without doing it through the carrier as my colleague is not with EE now either, so I will struggle to get them to unlock it.
Additional info:
Wireless works fine
IMEI Number shows correct
No SIM/non EE SIM inserted - says not registered on network but see signal strength on top bar
EE SIM inserted (correct for carrier lock) - get a no entry sign and no signal strength on top bar
Model - GT-i9505
O/S - 5.0.1
BB - I9505XXUHOD7
Build - LRX22C.I9505XXUHOD7
Any help would be great as if I cant get it working I will need to go buy one for my friends son before Xmas as I have had and spent the money
Thanks in advance
S

Bump... anyone got any ideas?

Unlocked S4 unable to register on AT&T network

Hello folks,
A while back, I managed to get AT&T to block network data on my mobile line.
Shortly thereafter, I purchased an unlocked HTC Touch in Europe and experienced no problems receiving/making calls in the U.S. Inserting my AT&T SIM was plug-and-play, for lack of better words.
During a recent trip to Europe, I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S4. After inserting my AT&T SIM, I can not receive/make any calls.
I have bars, get a Voice Mail notification, as well as a 'Not registered to network' message. I am also unable to register to the AT&T networks the phone searches and finds...
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated!
apn settings would not stop registration.. maybe the phone was a black listed imei that went to europe and you bought it and are trying to use it here.
what is the model number.

you got screwed dude. the phone has bad esn and they blocked the phone already. sorry to hear
Isn't this the "region Locking" that Samsung has been getting flack for lately? If you buy a phone in EU, you have to register it in EU with an EU SIM (Any EU SIM if it an unlocked phone) initially. After that, I think you can then use ATT SIM if the phone is unlocked. It doesn't always work though and people are mad
I am assuming you bought an unlocked phone in EU
Google "SAMSUNG Region lock"
Could be the radio IC blown. That's what happened to my phone, which has a perfectly-fine IMEI (not blacklisted).
See this thread. I'm about to get my phone back from the factory today.

SGH-I337M Network Problem

My cousin recently got a Galaxy S4 (SGH-I337M) and he got it unlocked from the dealer. A few days ago he took out the SIM ( The phone is telus & the SIM is rogers) & re-inserted it. After that, he couldn't call or text, but the signal strength in the top right was full. In the notification bar, there is a triangle with an exclamation mark & it says no service. In the mobile network settings, if we press register automatically, the exclamation mark goes away but it says unable to connect, try again later. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
At first glance it seems that the phone is still locked to Telus.
Have you tried a Telus SIM? A Telus store would likely let you try one to see or better yet the dealer your cuz got the phone from.
The reason for full signal is that by law (at least in Canada) every phone must be able to call 911 without needing a SIM card inserted.

The 3 bars are the signal strength as you can still make emergency calls, your message sim network unlock pin means the phone is sim / network locked you need a pin code to unlock it, take it back to the store you got is from if it is supposed to be unlocked to any network and get them to sort it, this should be free if you bought it as an unlocked phone.

Just seen you other post here that you put up 2 hours before this one, why start another thread asking the same thing. In this one you say your brother bought it in the UK and sent it to Asia for you, it is Vodafone UK network locked, if it was bought sim free it would not be network locked.
Was it really bought in the UK or obtained in an alternative way other than being bought.

Most likely it's a network lock. But you haven't provided enough information to be certain. You say that you got the phone in the UK but neglected to tell us what region you are using it in? Where your Vodaphone carrier is based or the context of the calls you have made. i.e used for 4 minutes where?.. and the meaning of "non taken from it" is uncertain.
If the phone is rooted, you can check whether it's region locked by looking at the customer.xml blacklist file. Or alternately pay for a network unlock and that will typically clear both network and region locks.

Im currently in Sri lanka (South Asia) and the phone is with me , but the phone was bought in UK , where my brother lives.. he said he wasn't aware of this region lock and he wasn't aware of the 5 mins call.. but just to check the phones functionality he has poped his UK vodaphone sim in to the phone and he has received a call to it for like 1- 2 mins . but he has not taken any calls to a UK number with it . what im currently getting is 'Sim Netowrk Unlock Pin' i think my phone is sim locked not reigion .. (or is it ?) . thank you very much for replying earlier
and also i followed your tutorial and checked the file (using es manager .. no rooting) and the result i got is attached as a pic below
http://share.pho.to/7R3ku
one more thing . all my country carriers are under one MCC code (413 ) . so editing that line in to a different number will solve the problem? ex- changing 413 to something like 222 or 567 ?? thank you!
after comparing codes in customer.xml and online found list .. it can be seen that all EU countries are not on the list (means this is region locked i asssume). will changing my country code to one of the EU codes will solve the issue? will my phone face any issues if i edit it without rooting (i have the ability to edit it without rooting using es file manager) thank you!

sgs4 sim problem

SIM problem with i9505
I have an s4 which was on Tmobile, i upgraded in a shop to a note 3 om EE and had my number ported to the note 3, ever since the s4 will not take an EE sim card, it just says there is no sim inserted, strangely though there is signal showing but when you try to dial out it says not registered on network, i have spoken to Tmobile, EE and taken it into numerous shops, essentially they are useless and dont want to know, i dont think the SIM socket is damaged as it takes every other sim and works fine. I just flashed an EE stock firmware to it but still it doesnt seem to accept the EE sim.
I have also put root checker on the phone which is saying the unit is not rooted properly, if that is so then surely i wouldnt have been able to flash the firmware to it ?.
Not sure what steps i should take now to try to sort this out, the carrier is denying that the problem was caused by them, some have said that it is locked from the EE network, if that was so i would have no service, not an uninserted sim error.
Is there something that will unlock it if indeed it is a lock problem (which i dont think it is)

Sim lock Check?

Hi, i have an old S5 Neo, which originally came on Virgin, but we used an EE sim card (UK based) this worked without issue, im assuming because virgin use the EE network? but now we are giving the phone to a child and put an asda sim (also runs on EE network) but the device shows emergency calls only and doesn't seem to accept the sim..
IS there a code or way of checking if it is sim locked or not? it is not rooted. codes i found on xda dont seem to work with or without sim inserted..
