240FPS choppy. - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Someone on reddit, unknown settings other than the specified 240:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ru-LI5dnEBc&feature=youtu.be
Mine, 240FPS, HD 1080p:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXuwpDd25b8
His is super smooth, mine is all choppy and i dont think its the speed of the object either because I tried several things.

Yeah that's missing frames , not sure what's going on but it shouldn't be like that , tried a simple restart?

Restart fixed it!!

I'm actually experiencing this as well. Immediately after reboot it works alright, but then after using the phone normally for a few hours the frames drop again and the camera app in general gets very laggy. I'm about to do a factory reset to see if that helps flush out whatever is causing all the weird camera hiccups.

I have this issue but reboot didn't work

Are you taking your video in low light? 240 FPS needs excellent lighting.

Ok, now that I tested it in better lighting its better. So is that just how it is or can a software update help?

Same problem here. After reboot it's OK, even in bad lightning. Tried clearing cache/data from the camera and Google photos but that did not work. Only solution is reboot, hope Google will fix it.

Same issue
Look at this,
before rebooting the 6P:

Epic video camera = junk.

First of all, id just like to say, i love my epic, however.... i had it for almost a month and today i tried the video camera which is supposed to be good... right? Well unless im doing something wrong, it looks like crap. If anyone is moving fast it has a HUGE trail behind them. Is there something i can do to fix this issue? i have everything on max settings.

I haven't tweaked any settings and it's perfectly fine. Try deleting the Data under Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Camera > 'Clear Data'.
See if it works better that way. My playback is incredibly high quality and I don't touch any settings.
Strange I've taken quite a few vids with my Epic and never had that issue. In fact they generally turn out quite well.
do this: wave your hand infront of it and see if you can see the tracers.... thats waht im talking about... so for instance, if i record someone breakdancing or something else that they are moving fast, its ALL tracers and looks terrible. P.S. that didnt work

for real? wtf... yeah im running the eb13 ext4 with the OC kernal... so how would i go about fixing this? downgrading back to dk18?
Yeap people are downgrading back to DK18 but I like froyo too much so I will wait for the fix
Yup, I would say screw that, and just downgrade back to Froyo dk28, it's what I have and until I see some decent roms with EB13 I will probably stick with DK28 until, I was OC'd with Genocide too, but that causing my phone to freeze sporatically,.
So I say stick with a dk rom.
There is absolutely no reason to"upgrade" to eb13 until there are some good custom roms. I'm running viper trinity with genocide kernel and my phone flies with no issues whatsoever. Why would I want to"upgrade" to a stock rom with evidently lots of bugs?
I say hold off, let these great devs work their magic, and then flash a true "upgrade."

Which camera App?
I have found the camera on the Epic to be very inconsistent. Sometimes the photos look great, rivaling a good point-n-shoot. But, other times, it's just not sharp. It doesn't help that the lens sticks out and seems to get dirty just from holding the camera.
Has anyone found a better camera app?
I was able to record a basketball game...and even zoomed in all the way and out while recrding while they were running and there was absolutely NO blur. It was buttery smooth.
Infact, whenever someone watches a video on my phone, they ALL say "...wow....your phone takes really clear vids!"
Unfortunately tho, I don't see that being the case anymore if I take a video in lowlight
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
It's not junk. It's the EB13 ROM causing problems. I'm still on DK28 and my cam is perfect....although a little grainy in low light.
The irony is that Samsung makes cameras, so one would think this is an area where they'd have an edge over HTC...

It's the speed of the micro SD. Get a class 6 and it wont happen anymore.
Lag on preview
Are you looking at the resultant videos, or the screen when you're taking the movies? Because during video the screen is definitely laggy. As for the motion artifacting, well, you're not going to be able to catch even moderately high speed activities with a sensor the size of the Epic's in low light. That's because it looks like the Epic doesn't adjust the ISO when it gets dark, it just increases exposure time for each frame. This keeps the images from being terribly grainy, but also makes everything look like slomo watercolors when it gets dark enough. If you want good motion capture in low light situations, you're going to have to get something with a larger sensor. Actually, I'm surprised how nice the epic's movies look. I'm the first one to criticize samsung, but they did pretty well with the limited sensor size.

Any trick to remove screen ghosting/burn

I play a youtube video and if it hangs or closes, sometimes the last image stays on the screen. I play anything, from another youtube video to my own videos and I still see the damn picture on the screen. Its always on top. So far the only way to get rid of it, its rebooting, which is annoying as hell.

But it sometimes happens Also when I stream a video to My Vital player App

thanks all. The ghosting is the least of the youtube problems. Wait until it freezes and you have to take the battery out. I have the otterbox defender so taking the battery out is a POS.
Try to downgrade youtube apk.

[Q] Lag / Stutter - Nexus 4

I've been having this issue for a while, occasionally the phone would lag/stutter when simply swiping through home screens or the apps drawer (With no applications open) it would still run games and apps perfectly smooth though. Only way to fix the lag is to turn wi-fi off and back on, restart the phone, or wait for the lag to go away. Any thoughts on this? has anyone been experiencing this? I tried searching the forum, but couldn't find anyone experiencing this.
Here is a video I uploaded:
you might be better off trying a factory reset tbh. this hasnt been a vocalized issue
Do you have a constant wifi connection during the lag?
On my xperia arc it connects and immidatly disconnects again and because of this the lag appears..

Did a factory reset but lag still occurred occasionally.
If you have a Google Play Music widget on your home screen, that may be the cause of the occasional lag. I removed the widget and so far no lag.

Never had this issue with my previous devices and others seem to be not having this issue, so I don't think it is normal for an Android to behave this way.
I'll add my voice to this thread.
I've had mine since the weekend. Yesterday night, it started stuttering, in exactly the way you said. I restarted, it went away for a bit, then came back. I tried killing all running applications, made no difference. Another restart fixed it and its smooth as it was again.
Wonder if it is the WiFi causing it?
Incidentally, I was reading some custom kernels fixed the problem for some, but I'd rather not get back into all that nonsense (I've had enough flashing ROMs to last a lifetime thus far).

So your phone is not rooted and you haven't flashed anything on it? Maybe you can remember when this started and you install some app , maybe it causes this? If so this is not normal! go to the thread dediacated to factory re-flash , this is the only option then

Phone is not rooted or flashed. Might be an issue with one of the apps but it would be very hard to isolate the issue. I have requested a replacement device from Google since I couldn't figure out the cause of it.

It has no problems running apps, perfectly smooth, no lag at all. The stutter only occurs occasionally when simply scrolling through the home screen or app drawer.
It's normal because it's Android.
Android lags. And will forever. It lagged on the G1, it lags on the N4. It will lag on the N5.
It will lag until Google decides to fix Android.
All the people who claim that their device doesn't lag are lying. Simple as that.

Reboot while in camera

When taking pictures in low light situations with flash (it seems low battery enhances the probability) sometimes the pictures get artifacts (white lines close to the top/bottom of the picture).
And sometimes the phone gets stuck and reboots. The camera tends to make clicking noises right before it reboots that are louder than when usually focusing.
Look at the screenshot and at the end you can see the reboot. You can see a sudden battery level drop after the reboot.
I don't know if this is hardware or software related but a user suggested this to be a problem with the stock camera app.
I had this problem on two devices already and it seems to be on all devices, maybe just rarer for some people? Not sure.
If you have this problem vote for the following issue and hope google fixes it:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=49702&#makechanges
I had something similar happen to me once last week. I was viewing my photos in the stratosphere mode and would hit the back button. I had to repeatedly do this to scroll to the next images after viewing them. When hitting the back button it would take me back to take a picture, but one time, it took me to a blank screen with the camera buttons still working. I ended up needing to restart my phone. Not sure what happened there.
I have only seen this once. It didn't occur again, so I haven't chased it down
Ditto only happened once in the first week of using and has never happened again

The device was a little hot but not as hot as when in gaming and in gaming it never reboots.
Look at the screen shot and at the end you can see the reboot. What I'm worried about is the sudden battery level drop after the reboot.

I seem to have the same issue. So far, it has only occurred when I am trying to take a photo with the flash on. One more observation: seems to happen more often if the battery is low. However, both of us might be having defective devices, as it doesn't seem to be a common issue looking the forums here.
No solution found so far. Tried a factory reset. Tried using another camera app. Nothing helped. Might try flashing a custom ROM.

All oft the things you described apply to my situation too. Also I noticed that pictures tend to have artifacts (white stripes close to the top/bottom). They always have the same distance from top/bottom but their length differs.
Also after the forced reboot there sometimes appears an extra picture in the gallery that is fully grey.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I don't seem to have the artifact problem that you described. Also there is a creaking sound sometimes just before it restarts.
Have you tried flashing a custom ROM? Did it help? Otherwise RMA is possibly the way to go.
I ordered the phone from US using a mail forwarding service, so an rma will cost me another $100 or so. If you or anyone else can confirm that it is definitely a hardware issue which can be resolved by getting a replacement, i might go for it.

I was on AOKP PUB Krait 05/02 by Stevespear and Harsh Kernel and I did have a reboot there once too. Also this is already my third Nexus 4 since I had to replace it 2 times due to issues (bottom side creaking 1st device / yellow blotches 2nd device) and this one really looks good only this camera reboot issue is left.
But my first phone did have the issue too, I didn't have the 2nd phone long enough so didn't see it happen there. I have no idea if it is a hardware or software issue but my bet is that all Nexus 4's have that issue.
It just seems that it appears rather rarely and most people don't notice it. Or it could be that the voltage is too low and that would explain why it happens on some phones more than on others since not all chips are equal. I was wondering if somehow setting the flash to be weaker so it draws less power would solve this. But I am just a user and don't really have an idea.
PS: I won't get my phone replaced since I can live with this issue (it happens rather rarely) and I went through 2 replacements to get this device which is close to perfect but I wouldn't mind if someone came up with a solution.
That makes me feel really lucky to have gotten a nearly perfect device. Anyway, guess we just have to live with it then. Lowering the flash intensity sounds like a good idea. Will check if some rom/kernel/app can do it for me.

Having the same problem here on 4.2.1 and 4.2.2. I think it might be the buggy stock camera/gallery app because I can't replicate the problem on the Camera Zoom FX app.
Edit: I remember having this problem on 4.2.1 and then clearing the gallery app data and not ever seeing the issue happen again. I will try the same on 4.2.2 and see if it fixes it too.

I have had this issue with the Camera FX Zoom app also. So, at least in my case, I guess it's a hardware/camera driver issue. Anyway, I also cleared the gallery app data a few days back and haven't faced this issue since then, but haven't taken enough pics with flash to confirm that the issue is truly gone.

8 Pro significant video recording lag and stutter

Hi,
I have been using my Oneplus 8 Pro Black 8GB RAM version and noticed that when recording videos it stutters for 2-4 seconds on all settings both when recording and in the finished processed result.
Its overall sluggish and reacts very slow when moving the phone around both with video and photos.
This is a pretty big issue for me, actually a deal breaker. I had a few complaints about some other, mainly software problems and I got over it because it's the best phone I thought. But with this lag it's a no go.
It's not always there, but it's there.
Is it fixable? Because am I am loving the phone and would like to keep it but with this problem I would definitely have to return it.
Anybody having this issue? Any suggestion?
PS: I wanted to post a video but I am not allowed.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Could you post a sample of this issue? Are you on the latest update? Are you using the stock app? Have you tried doing a cache wipe?
I am on the latest update, using stock app. I didnt try Cash wipe.
Here is one video. The stutter is at the beginning in this video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fK72ha1TXU
Yes, I can see the stutter. I suggest go ahead with the cache wipe in the stock recovery to see if that helps, try clearing the cache of the camera app too.
If that doesn't solve the issue, I advise you to contact customer support and explain this to them.
Also you might want to create a thread on the official forums, they're following that better.
This is definitely a software issue most likely fixable via an update. If this only happens at the start then I'd just start recording a couple of seconds earlier to be able to cut the part out of the finished video.
One more thing. Does this happen on every setting? 4k60, 4k30, 1080p60, 1080p30? What about the rest of the video modes?

Where can I do the cache wipe in the stock recovery. I did the cache wipe in the camera app, didnt help.
I posted it on the offical forum, only few people had this problem. Which makes me wonder, when its a common problem, then its beeing reported by more people not few.
It seems that it only appears on 4K 30 AND 60 FPS, not on 1080p but I have to test that in the morning.
When I cant solve this problme, I will return the phone. I had the dilemma, which phone to keep (S10 +, S20 + or this one), i decided OnePlus but with this no chance.
Ok, I cleared camera apps cache and phones cache. After it didnt help at all, I did factory reset, it didnt help too. So I am out of options.

Is playback choppy? Or just recording.
FHD screen or QHD?
What OS? 5.4, 5.5, 5.6?
What video Size? 4K 1080, 60fps or 30
But more info mate
Both are choppy, recording and playback. It occurs in 4K 30, 60 FPS in QHD+, 120Hz, with the newest OS 10.5.6 from yesterday.
Hmmm, just tested the video and I don't seem to have this although I do get phone slow down and input lag. Perhaps they're related? Maybe I need to wait for the input lag and slow down for the video to go funny.

When you have this problem, you would have already noticed it. It is very distinctive. HDR doesn't make any difference by me. However the lag seems to be more present with 4K 60FPS then with 30 FPS.
I been having this issue since day one. Sometimes framses drop to 10 and is very annoying. I contacted one plus and they suggested a replacement. They didn't have too many cases of the frame drop at the time but it seems they are all out of stock so a replacement will take awhile. Shame cause I think the phone is awesome.

My solution has been to use the latest gcam version. It supports 4k 60p now. It maxes out at 100mbps so you lose a little data rate. But I've been hearing about this black crush issue so may need to send it back
Are the people with stutter using the 12 or 8gb version?

On the site from OnePlus they are out of stock, but on Amazon you can order any version of the phone. I don't get it.
I will try gcam
Me too on 8gb, 10.5.6. Oneplus support advised to wait for a future software update. Tried hard reset, cache wipe, app cache clear, to no success......
