I like this idea a lot. Maybe you can get a bounty placed on it. Would be a great use for the sensor.

It's possible already, the app maker has to support it. The app has no access to the fingerprint info, it's just for verification (in this case, locking the app) so that addresses the privacy concern

I think several exist.... Search applock in play store. I don't have link but I know they do. Only a few support fingerprint.... But I'm sure all will update as a few have already

Shows up as not compatible...maybe it's my DPI settings?

Finger Security is Samsung only. Applock would have been great, but I can't have it to access the fingerprint scanner...

Focus Gallery
This is the only application that I found :goo.gl/kqBAUt

Only for pictures. What I want is an app locker for any app (cause my bank app is not a picture).

Hey guys! We finally have have an fingerprint app lock!! Its called Maxlock on Xposed. It does require you to be rooted. I am using this app now and it works flawlessly.

Other uses for finger print scanner

Is there any way to use the finger print scanner other than its designated way. Such as scrolling up and down websites? Or is it impossible?

You know i never thought of using the scanner for other uses but what a great idea!!!
Would be great as a trackball replacement....even though it would probably be just up and down...
Seems like lots could be done with it if it was possible...
Good thread idea! =)
that sounds like what moto used to have. the backtrack thing that was on some earlier android phones with motoblur.

Indeed it is. All you need is some java experience. If it's not too difficult, I may do it myself! I need to brush up on my java anyways for pre college credit.
Edit: thought about it a bit longer, may not be the same implementation you think making it a bit hardet. Since I don't have access to a computer for three more days, ill think about it a while longer.

We should also come up with a cm7 compatible app since the stock one doesn't work

Not to be disheartening but I think that the fingerprint sensor isn't always on as it is so if you do what you want it will probably be at the cost of battery power although I'm not exactly sure how much it would affect it if even at all.

Has anyone tried?

Indeed.
Also FP is something totally new in all phones. And don't know if there is a function that detects in which way you are moving your finger.
FP Sensor its like a camera, that it took pictures when a finger slides on it.
Eg when the phone is locked with screen on, it is activated, and when it detects a finger, it pictures it.
Good luck if somebody makes it!

I'm gonna say no. there is no open access to the fingerprint sdk from motorola which has made it difficult to use for non-moto apps such as widget locker. it's difficult just to enable the fp scanner on outside apps, accessing its functionality further is even less likely.

The fingerprint scanner is made my Authentec and the SDK is freely available from them. http://developers.authentec.com/
However, I doubt that it exposes which direction the finger was swiped, and I'm pretty sure it's only on when the screen is waiting to be unlocked.
I had a Toshiba laptop with fingerprint scanner which supported scrolling. But it is possible it scans more than 1 line at once so it would know which direction you are sliding. I doubt that would be the case with the Atrix one but would love to be proven wrong

Finger Print Security

Hello Guys,
I was wondering if there's any Good and Less Irritating Fingerprint Security app for S5?
I need to lock some Apps like WhatsApp so what's are the Best options?
With cool features.. I tried using an app FingerSecurity (or similar) it was sort of irritating.. Because if my Device gets locked while using WhatsApp and i open the lock with Fingerprint.. Then it again prompts me to put Finger Print and when i scan again.. Nothing happens..
Please help me out.. And yeah my device is not rooted.

I don't think there are any apps for FingerPrint Security. If there is I wouldn't even trust that app. It's a good chance it's fake, or it can take your idenity.
Samsung should do it!

This is not true. Apps that use Samsungs fingerprint scanner don't get your fingerprint. The only get to know if the fingerprint is one of the fingerprint that are registerd.
Also Samsung does not save a fingerprint but a hash.

That is okay. I just want you to know that your fingerprints are not vissible to the apps which use fingerprint unlock
I would not give my fingerprint to an app either

That doesn't support finggerprints.
There is an app that does however. Applock -Fingerprint- works with 6P and 5X fingerprint readers.

Yes it does. I've used it.
Hmm this app looks useful too. Privacy ace is annoying because you can't remove the ads. I'll have to try this one out!
If root max lock xposed works very well.

iris based app lock for note 9

Hi, im trying to find app lock which unlock based on iris and finer print for note 9, i found many apps with only finger unlock.
let me know if there is any app for it.
thank you
Interested aswell

Me too but unfortunately, with some of Samsung devices being the only devices with this tech, I don't think we'll have a lot of devs willing to spend time and recourses on an app for such a limited number of users
One solution is to put app inside the secret folder area, then you gota use iris or fingerprint to get to the app you want, since you gota unlock that folder and then go into app you want to use.
I'm the owner of https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.martianmode.applock
I will check if thats possible.
^ Please do!
Willing to invest in a paid version that has this feature.
Not exactly what you asking for. But if you are happy to switch to Hyperion launcher then it has app lock function using iris. I am using it and it works great.

In android pie there should be a option to "call" for biometrics instead of fingerprint so that might work

Hyperion launcher is amazing. I love the app lock but still is a bit buggy.
