LG Nexus 5X Download mode - Nexus 5X General

This is not a how-to! I just want to inform everyone that our LG Nexus 5X has a download mode just like all other lg phones.
Instructions: 1.Plug USB cable into pc 2. Hold volume up and power at the same time and plug phone into usb that's already connected to your pc.
Like I said this is not a how-to so use Google and your brain to get the kdz or tot stock nexus 5X files and convert accordingly.
I am not responsible for anything you do to your phone but I hope this helps anyone out that was not aware. After all xda is all about sharing right ?

Well I got into it by pressing power and vol up after the phone took 5 minutes to boot back up after using a move to system an updated google play app.. Guess the move did not work. And had a hard time getting back into recovery to reflash a saved system image. But there is not much info on what else this mode is good for.. Something about not booting up the CPU but still able to flash? If so then those with problem N7 updates might be able to use this mode to clear the flash and upload a fresh firmware file to get their phones back in working order.

where we can find the official LG Nexus 5X kdz firmware or TOT? I mean not the one from XDA, but the official from LG. Tried searching but not yet found it.

Looking for same

Man, I'm in the boot loop nightmare and am hoping there's a tool from LG that can reflash recovery using download mode. I have tried every way I can find to do that through fastboot, but it won't work. Won't boot to recovery, which is why I want to flash one. It's probably hardware toasted (some research shows this is a problem on this and some other phones using same chip), but thought I'd try everything before giving up on it. It's 2 months out of warranty. :-\

stuck in bootloop
my phone nexus 5x. It is stuck in bootloop and i haven't activated the usb debugging. I have tried entering into download mode but still it not going into download mode. What should I do?

Did you ever manage to solve this? I'm in a boot loop now, and it won't go into recovery mode before rebooting again and again!

Nope. What kills me is these are still being sold by some carriers... knowing full well they are only good for a year+enough time to expire your warranty.

[Q] Stuck in FTM Mode?

Hi folks,
My wife dropped her 2-week old Nexus 4 which caused part of the front glass to crack and portions of the touchscreen to be dead, so we had to send it into LG for repairs (at quite a price tag). Fine.
So we get it back, I turn it on, and it's in something called "FTM Mode" (file transfer mode, I think)? I can't seem to get it out of it.
Things I've tried:
Rebooting (have to hold the power button down for 5-10 sec).
Factory data reset (the settings are available through the notification menu in FTM Mode).
In recovery mode:
[*]Start (goes right back to FTM Mode)
[*]Power off (duh)
[*]Restart bootloader (gets me right back to the same screen)
[*]Recovery mode (gives me a little android with its stomach open, a red exclamation point, and says "No command.")
I attempted LG support, but they asked me to do a few of these (after asking me to hit the "home" button...), then told me to mail it back to them because they probably have to flash it.
So, the obvious question: how the hell can I get out of FTM Mode?
Secondary question: if none of the above worked and I do have to flash the OS, can I flash it myself to default Jellybean? Any idiot-friendly step-by-step guides out there?
Here you are! (I was the one talking to you on Reddit)
Since you can get to fastboot you can just flash the stock image files and you should be fine! The toolkit is in the original dev section but you cannot download the images from it anymore. A few people here have the images though so hopefully someone will pop up with them shortly

No worries! You can use the toolkit without knowing fastboot, I just recommended learning it in case you ever need to flash without it. I believe after you download the toolkit there will be a folder you can place the stock image into then you can use the toolkit to flash the image from that folder. I'm not 100% what folder that is though but I believe the name makes it fairly obvious if you look for it

Unfortunately, I haven't even been able to install the bloody USB driver, so fastboot/adb can't even see the device. I've described by problem here. I think the source issue is what LG did during repairs... the device is named "Full JellyBean on Mako" instead of something like "Nexus 4", so the drivers in that post aren't being recognized by Windows as valid for the device. At least that's my guess.
OK, got it all fixed.
This post was incredibly useful. Once I got the USB drivers installed and fastboot recognizing the device (oddly, adb wasn't able to), it was extremely smooth unlocking the bootloader and flashing the image.
Thanks!

For future reference ADB only works in recovery and when booted into android, never in boot loader. Bit glad you got it working

LG G2 D802 Bricked

Hi All,
I had TWRP recovery on this LG D802. Because download mode wasn't working i flashed a stock recovery. Since that moment i don't have:
- Recovery mode
- Download mode
- Fastboot mode
The phone is in a boot loop though. It flashes the LG logo on and off. The phone isn't being detected by the computer.
I hope someone can help me.
Kind regards.

This is not to dampen your spirit but if it is not detected by computer then it is very hard to get it back to life. But I guess it is not detecting by computer because it is not fully loading(at least some of the necessary files loading). If you aren't able to get into download mode or fastboot mode, I guess you may try the method explained in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
Hope your device get back to normal following that thread, you need Ubuntu for that method to try, but that's(installing ubuntu) not a difficult.
Thank you for your answer. Onfurtantely that is not helping because for that manual the mobile needs to be detected by the computer.

Then I suggest you to completely switch off the phone(I hope you already done that) & leave it for some time and then try it after some time. Did you use the proper stock recovery when going from TWRP to stock recovery(I mean the recovery that is intended for your phone model)?. What I think is that as long as it is seeing some sort of life(it is going as far as LG Logo), there is a hope that it can be recovered. I think some thing is messed up in recovery or boot or one of those partitions that are checked during the boot.
You need to first download the kdz and lg flash utility with drivers.
Install drivers
The factory reset deleting system, cache, internal sd.
Then shutdown your g2.
Start to downloaded mode connecting your g2
Flash kdz & voila... Done
I too bricked my phone before. My flashing stuck at 49%. Recovered using above method, all is well now
This works 1000%. I bet on it. Just remember to wipe the phone completely before flashing. You will return to stock with unrooted status in download mode. U will have your warranty back too

Lg g2 stuck in boot loop, vzw i have tried everything need serious help!!!!!!!!!!!

Been running pac rom, tried installing a custom ROM that was almost stock kitkat for Verizon. Forgot to wipe i think, and now i have been screwed since. Stuck in boot loop. Factory reset can be reached, but screen goes black everytime and doesnt allow me to get into TWRP. Only thing accessiable is download mode. But device is not recongized in adb, only when its bootlooping. But it is recognized in devices and printers in bootloop. New computer also, no RSA authentication, while in bootloop ive tried to adb boot recovery commands, but no authorization. Im completly stuck and have been for days, ive read so many posts but everything i have found doesnt match all my problems. and most people dont read the entire post or problem before submitting a dumb answer, which is a duh i tried that kind of thing thanks for nothing. SO PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE. IM GOING CRAZY OVER HERE AND LOOSING MY MIND> WHO EVER CAN HELP ME, IS GOD AND SHOULD BE CONSIDERED TOP DOG GENIOUS>
When you get to the white Factory Reset screen, pressing the power button 3 or 4 times won't get you back into TWRP?
Well u press it once to give conform option, and the second time, turn it black
lg flash tool
that doesnt work because it thinks its got the latest version. I need some real help bad, its so hard not having my phone. This would be easy if my laptop didnt get stolen that had authorization to do cmd commands. Anyways, really need some brain power put togeaher on this on and \fast. Is anyone down with maybe skyping with me, to visually see whats going on and troubleshoot it as if you were remoting into a computer. Just tell me what to do!!!> Please you have no idea how much I would love someone if they did. Its been driving me balls for weeks now. I NEED SOMEONES HELP

Alright, so I'm stuck in boot loop, the only recovery I can boot into is stock, which doesn't help obviously. I can't get into download mode, and my computer doesn't detect it. Just tell me the bad news.
Have you removed the LG drivers completely and reinstalled them? How did you get into the bootloop in the first place?

Let me see.. If by download mode you mean the blue dots(circles) then - no, you're not in download mode. But if you can enter teh real download mode (it should go past the circles) then you can flash it ( you should be able to flash it).
More info please.

Damn. I've read "I CAN get into download mode and ...." :/

one question : how did you brick it ?
Let me copy paste my previous three posts.
"When I originally tried to install TWRP, I was rooted in a stock rom, or whatever you call it when you're rooted and haven't installed a rom yet. When I tried originally, I went through CWM and installed it through that, but whenever I rebooted into recovery, I got the android with the caution sign in its chest. I kept trying to install it, and eventually I believe I used the flashify app to install it(the version I believe was 2.6.3.3) and I tried to boot again and it went into a boot loop, and began making a bunch of drives. I used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2582142to get me into TWRP, and it worked. Problem is, I have no roms, no backups, no download mode, and my computer only recognizes my phone as 'g2'. I tried to install adb drivers manually so that the computer would recognize it as an adb device, but it gave me error:closed, and that's where we are right now. Quite a hole I have dug myself into, huh?"
"Ok, so I went back into linux -- I have dual boot for windows 7 and ubuntu -- and for some reason adb worked there, so I was able to adb sideload a cwm .img. But of course, I got excited because I thought it would just fix it but now I'm stuck in fastboot mode, and still can't get into download mode."
"I tried it, and now it is stuck in a bootloop and isn't detected by my computer. Only thing I can boot into is stock recovery. Looks like this is the end of my G2.."
I truly do think there's nothing that can be done, just from a logical standpoint. It isn't detected by anything on the computer and can only boot stock recovery which doesn't help at all. I do appreciate the help, though.

Un-debrickable state ?

Hello guys,
I'm fairly certain I'm stuck in an un-debrickable state but I'll ask just in case. My phone is F800K.
I was toying around with LGUP in order to downgrade and root my phone. So far, so good.
I then tried to update to the latest android 9 again, but keep the root active. That's where things started to go south, so I decided to go back.
I followed a couple of "back to stock" guides but now I'm screwed.
- The phone does not boot.
- Download mode is broken, the phone doesn't connect to my computer while in download mode, so it's unusable.
- TWRP is gone. When I try to boot to recovery after yes both times I get nothing. Not the stock recovery and not TWRP, it just tries to boot as usual.
- Can't seem to go back into fastboot either. I tried VOLDOWN + plug-in the phone about 200 times now, to no avail.
Is there another way that I'm missing ?
Thanks.

It does sound like a hard brick... you said fastboot is hosed, do you have access to adb in any way?
Sent from my moto g(6) play using Tapatalk
None that I know of, that's the issue. If I had access to either fastboot, adb or download mode, I could most likely salvage this, but I can't seem to be able to.
The weirdest thing is the broken download mode, I couldn't find anybody with the same issue...

On my lg tribute HD (ls676) fastboot was removed by lg themselves on Android 6.0.1 quietly with a security update and download mode never worked right for me. Without access to fastboot, adb or even diag mode it really sounds like you have a hard brick. if i can find a solution of some kind, I'll definitely let you know.

What would "diag mode" be and how can I check if I can access it ?
Small update for people who stumble upon this thread, I managed to save my phone by using the Qualcomm Test Point, see here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=81697447&postcount=128
