Shutting off on it's own? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Got the phone yesterday, the only thing I've done is unlock the bootloader and download all my apps. It worked perfectly fine last night, went to bed all things were great.
I woke up this morning and it was turned off which was strange, held down the power button to boot up and it gets to the home screen and immediately says "shutting down" the battery isn't dead so i'm not sure what the issue is.
I've tried turning it on with the charger plugged in and it does the same thing.

Try safe mode?

How do I boot into that?
Going to try flashing the stock image, it'll stay booted in the bootloader so I'm thinking it can't be the battery.

My Nexus 5 had/has that same issue. The ceramic power button started to fail. I would have to push really hard on the power button in order to get it to stop. I hope to god this is not an issue with my 6p that is coming in the mail today.
I would send it back if its a power button issue.

My nexus 5 had that issue as well but it would just constantly reboot. This just turns off mid boot and then I have to hold the power button to turn it back on. But if I boot into the bootloader it'll sit there and be just fine.

Yeah, this doesn't sound like a power button failure, more like a software issue...I would attempt a factory reset or clean flash of the MM image from Google and try again...if it happens again I would RMA it..

Well I just tried flashing the MDB08K factory image and it still wouldn't fully boot up, but yet sitting here without the charger plugged in, it'll sit in the bootloader without any issues.
Downloading the MDA89D factory image and going to flash that, then relock the bootloader and basically set it back to the way it was when I got it. If it still won't boot then i'll contact google and get it resolved.

Yeah it's a bit of a bummer because I have no idea what's wrong with it.
Only thing I can think of at this point is the battery in some weird way is shot but even that doesn't make a lot of sense.
Decided to just call Google and tell them I want an exchange and not a normal "return it, wait for money to be refunded, and then rebuy."

Did you unlock the bootloader ? Root or install a recovery ? Just wondering if that is the cause or a hardware issue that has nothing to do with unlocking the bootloader ?

I called back and talked to another guy, he went through troubleshooting steps and said I qualified for a replacement. I made it very clear that I didn't want a refurbished device and expected a brand new device and he said I would be getting a brand new one. I also told him if i got a refurb that i'd just send it back as a return and buy a new phone.
But it's an advanced replacement, said I was one of the first people calling in that needed a replacement device so that's good news I guess.

Nexus 4 not turning on...

Ohh just my luck... SO basically I rebooted my nexus 4 and boom it wouldnt turn on. I read up a bit and people say to leave it charging for 15-30 min then put it into fastboot... tried it still no luck, Question is my nexus was rooted, custom boot animation, Stock Rom, Franco Kernel now if I was to return it to google how do I get it all back to stock? And any other suggestions you guy's would recommened for me to try before sending it back?
Ok so I got it to boot!!! YAY! using a person's post i found here they said
When you have totally dead piece, press all three together for at least 10 seconds... leave it ... press again and insert USB cable ...
you will get into RED LED mode...
remove the phone now
now VOL - pressed, insert USB cable again ... keep it pressed till you get FASTBOOT mode ... BINGO !
AND IT WORKED!!! Flashing everything back to stock and RMA to google most likely

Don't worry, your device isn't "defective". The next N4 you get will have the same chance of it happening as your current one does. It's random and there's no way to foresee it.

Nexus 4 RMA after brick.

Ive bricked my Nexus 4. It was my fault.
Ive been reading around for a solution. I get the Download USB device in task manager, and a USB input device while the red light comes on after holding the power button. No fast boot, screen activity or vibrations.
Ive read that a few people have sent in their Nexus 4's for RMA's while they have bricked custom ROMs installed, none of them seem to post how the RMA went. Do google check for this sort of thing, or just flash a new firmware onto it once they receive it, or have people been charged for the cost of repairing it?

Are you able to boot to bootloader or recovery mode? If you can, you can probably revive it.
How did you do it? Sounds like you flashed a kernel for another device.

Would that have any different result than just leaving it for a week? I left it at home while I went back to uni, so the battery will be dead when I get back. Don't want to make it obvious i've opened it.

Well its not really hard if you try to open it, just take your time, and from what I've seen in the forums, its helped many users. You shouldn't have to worry about making it look obvious that you've opened the phone. You only have to remove 4 screws, and that's including the 2 on the actual battery.

Google for some reason is being very generous with RMA's. On the playstore website it states that RMA's for defects can only be done in the first 15 days after purchase, after that it has to be sent to LG for repairs. But I've seen people RMA a device up to 4 months after getting it. Not sure why they are being so generous unless the Nexus 4's are having a really large failure rate and they are just being nice.

Factory images for 2 gen Nexus 7

I just bought a 32GB Nexus 7 2 Gen and i can't get to home screen without force closed apps. It seems like the hardware is broken on mine, but before i head over to bestbuy for replacement i thought it could be a bad flash on ASUS part. As soon as i connect to wifi, it says that there is update, it restarts, but i get the yellow triangle thingie with error written below it. I thought i could try to flash the factory image, but i can't find it. I'm pretty sure it should be online, but i could be wrong. So, does somebody have the link with the factory image of the newest Nexus 7?

Take it back. Sure you may be able to fix it now and its probably just software related, but that's not a good sign and could just set you up for future issues.

[Q] Moody power button on Nexus 4

Hi
My Nexus 4 is 8 months old and recently for no reason, my power button started behaving weirdly. Sometimes gently pressing it wont turn off the screen and other times it turns off the screen and turns it on again and on some occasions it works perfectly. It is not a ROM issue because sometimes the phone, if shut down, wont even power up.
But as days are passing by the behavior is getting more and more weird. I do not really need the power button coz I use alternatives, but some day if I need to turn on the phone when it is shut down or force shut down the device when it does not respond, there is no way to do so. (EDIT: Pressing volume down button while connecting to AC supply or USB puts device in fastboot mode. Then it can be rebooted using "fastboot reboot" so I am not very worried now)
I checked other posts on XDA but they claim the button is becoming harder to press. My button is not harder to press; it gets pressed just fine and even gives that clicking feeling when you press it. Only the resulting behavior is weird. Has anyone else had this issue? What could be the problem?
(EDIT 2: The power button seems to work properly if I use my thumb nail to press it)

Same thing happened on my phone, mainly after I get my back cover replaced. Now I have to use navigation shortcut to lock the screen and volume button to wake.

Need to Send Note 3 In For Warranty; Rooted

I dropped my phone today and now the volume up button is completely busted, it's stuck in the up position. I need to send it in for warranty work from Samsung but I can't even get it into Download Mode to unroot it, and even if I could, I couldn't hit the rocker up key to continue. How can I get it unrooted so I can send it to Samsung? I'm on Verizon.

Do you know what rooted means?
Please read this information here regarding Samsung Mobile Phone warranty,
http://www.samsung.com/in/support/warranty/warrantyInformation.do?page=POLICY.WARRANTY
It clearly says,
THIS WARRANTY IS NOT APPLICABLE IN ANY OF THE FOLLOWING CASES:
5.Defects caused by improper use, as determined by the Authorised Service Centre / Company personnel.
Off course you will get your phone repaired but not under warranty,
only after paying for it
What if I took it to Verizon? Either way rooting my phone is technically voiding the warranty, which is why I am freaking out.

Just tried it.
adb reboot-bootloader
indeed puts the device into Download Mode (without needing the Vol-Up button).
So all you need now is to go through Windows driver hell to get adb working. Either that or use a Mac (/Linxux)!
good luck

I spoke to VZW, they won't be able to fix it, so they're going to replace the entire device. They're sending me a new device.
I'll work on getting it unrooted when I get home.

If they are already sending you a new device, and all you have to do is return the old device in a pre-paid box, then I wouldn't worry about changing the status of the device. I've done this a few times in phone exchanges back when I had tons of trouble with the Galaxy Nexus. Of course, you could for peace of mind, but I've had experience with sending back a rooted device with no problems. I think they refurb it anyway...

OK. That sounds good and would free up some of my time. I'm just curious if anyone else has any experience with it?
But if it doesn't matter then I guess I wouldn't want to spend time on it tonight. I just don't want to get any bills for it or get into a big spat.

I gave them my rooted S3 back in December for a upgrade and had no problem.
Is there a place I can download the stock firmware for my phone?
