[BOUNTY]Working AOSP source code for Galaxy S6/ Note5(N920/G920/G925/G928) - Galaxy S6 General

We all know that if someone makes a source code for our device (F/I/S/K/L/A/Z/W8/FD) It will be easier to port it to non-international variants.
And I think that porting from one device to another will be easier too.
Ex:-Note5 to S6 to S6e to S6e+
I have seen many pledge threads(almost every thread i have seen about bounty) making a big breakthrough in porting in XDA.
MODERATOR NOTE: Bounties are not encouraged on XDA, however some have resulted in needed breakthroughs.
A legitimate bounty should be started by someone other than the recipient, preferably an established member of the community. The recipient should be aware of and endorse the bounty and agree to its purpose. A set goal should be announced and totals kept current. No money should be collected up front but pledged to be sent to the recipient's donation link once goal is reached. Please also note bounties should be for significant critical development projects, not to get your favorite developers a new toy....that is what their DONATE link is for.
Please stay within these guidelines.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

By making this bounty I mean no disrespect for free-time developers but I think this will speed up the porting of AOSP based roms for our Galaxy S6 devices.
Some of the many examples available, if you still doubt this you can google for yourself.

Isn't it easier to bribe someone at Samsung to leak the Exynos 7x source code?

I doubt they have even created the source code, or if they have created it properly.

I'll pledge $10.
Where's the link to do that? Or we chip in at the end when someone is finally able to do it?

So you throw cash at a phone without doing research
Then you realize you want some other rom
So you throw cash at $randomperson to fix it
Even if you succeed with that, Samsung who caused this unfortunate situation will ultimately benefit, because people think their phones can get custom Roms.
It is your money, but do you really want that?
Just accept your fate and buy a customer friendly device next time, there are plenty of options where the vendor does not actively hate their customer.

Who said that I didnt know about samsung and their open source friendliness when I bought this device?
I have used 2 of exynos devices and I have developed for one of them
You cant tell that its nearly impossible, It is just hard thats all.
Even minor devices with exynos had gotten working AOSP roms.
So if you dont know better keep your mouth shut and stop discouraging prople.

Community-driven AOSP ROMs are 100% created by multiple developers, not one.
In our case, we would significantly benefit from the work of Note 4 developers(mainly RaymanFX).
1 man getting such bounty while basing on, benefiting from other developers is simply unfair and will most likely piss off other contributors.
If AOSP ROM ever comes to Exynos 7420, the main developer(or OP of such threads) will encourage users to donate to other contributors and users will donate accordingly to their amount of work, as it always have been.
If you can't figure out a proper way to distribute the amount of bounty accordingly to each contributors, I cannot support this kind of bounty.

Yeah, I have already thought of this problem, and I have considered about splitting the money between everyone in a manner that they all agree, they were all working with cooperation, right?

It's more of a fund-raiser.
You can ask RaymanFX if you can open one. He sure knows about Exynos

Sure and I know you know about exynos devices more than me and I mean no disrepect for you and I admire your works for S3 korean, s3, s6, i9506 and I have only been using your works for a while.
I just think that this pledging will somehow convince new developers to join this project or it will help make developers working part time in this project some more time and help this device get the trees If you suggest me we can change the thread to be like making a working display driver for exynos 7420?

These *new developers* wouldn't even have an S6 and would have trouble purchasing them.
Fundraising it for well-known Exynos developers such as GeeckoDev or RaymanFX would result much better than a bounty, if they are willing to work on this nightmare Exynos 7420.

Petition for Samsung to be more open :)

Hi, a developer called pulser_g2 developer called codeworx made this petition for Samsung to be more open and be a lot more developer friendly, this petition is for all Samsung android devices, not just the s2. So I thought I would post it here in the hope a few of you may consider singing it please

Thank you
Edit: Sorry I made a mistake, the developer Codeworx just heavily promoted the petition, pulser_g2 is the developer who made it, and thanks entropy512 for pointing the mistake out

Actually pulser_g2 created it - codeworkx is just pushing it hard. (he deserves to as he's the one maintaining CM9...)

Only reason it's not on the portal is because pulser forgot his portal password (He even said so elsewhere.)

I haven't signed yet, but that is because I plan on writing a fairly decent bit on why cooperating with developers will benefit Samsung in my "Reason" field and need a bit more time.

IMO, in this day when manufacturers are locking down devices and intentionally making it very difficult for any development, Samsung has really catered to this small community. Companies like Motorola go as far as sabotaging their products to prevent any type hacking, rooting etc.
Sure, Samsung's official software upgrades are slow but I give them a lot of credit for reaching out in ways such as offering some of our top developers free devices.

The problem is they have, over time, become increasingly antagonistic to platform developers.
They are now failing to comply with the GPL with kernel source for many devices on a regular basis. The Infuse AT&T update took a month for source to show up, and Samsung ignored multiple requests for source in compliance with the GPL. The one time they answered, they claimed that they didn't have to provide source because they had stopped providing the update - that's bull****. If you provide a binary to someone, you MUST provide them the source - even if you are no longer providing binaries to other people.
They go out of their way to avoid releasing source whenever possible - see the AR6000 driver fiasco on the Tab 7 Plus.
The Galaxy S II hardware donation to the Cyanogenmod team was nothing but a PR stunt. If you follow the progress of CM9 on the I9100, you'll see that in addition to not providing any assistance to codeworkx and xplodwild, they are actively throwing barriers in the way. For example, secure containers (used by many apps) are disabled if a custom kernel is used in ICS.
Compare this to Sony, who provided technical assistance to the Cyanogenmod team leading to their entire 2011 lineup being well supported by CM, and also open-sourcing their sensor HALs when they didn't need to. They have also provided OFFICIAL ICS alphas and betas including source in compliance with the GPL, while everyone else just has leaks.
Unless Samsung changes their attitude - my next phone will be a Sony or a Nexus of some sort.

Interested in Android 5.0/Official CM? Support & Donations needed- P600 Model

17 November 2014: Goal has been reached and tablet is now in the hands of RaymanFX. Still feel free to support and donate to help him continue to prepare for his upcoming works. You can see his progress at github.com/raymanfx and
http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/q/status:open+exynos,n,z
Under Christopher Hesse
Hello everyone,
I am creating this thread on behalf of @RaymanFX , a recognized developer who needs a device to develop for us.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=3463426
He is looking to develop for the P600, WiFi only model and is looking to make AOSP/CM roms and kernels for us.
Here is a previous thread of his: http://forum.xda-developers.com/find-7/orig-development/rom-teameos-revival-nightlies-t2826587
And here is a list of previous threads: http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=319162976
Quote by RaymanFX:
most of you probably don't know me since I did not develop for Samsung devices for quite some time now.
I would be interested in aiding the Exynos 5420 development scene (in particular on the Galaxy Note 10.1) and prepare a custom Android distribution for it (Team EOS 5.0 - Lollipop).
I can get all the required drivers and binaries I need for development, since most of it is open source luckily.
And the Nexus 10 (manta) can still be used as reference for many things.
All I need is a development device to debug on.
It is particularly important that this is the Galaxy Note 10.1 EXYNOS (WiFi-only variant), and not the LTE (Qualcomm) variant.
I created this thread to ask whether someone has a spare device lying around, maybe because of the little development on Exynos 5 devices, or if people would be willing to donate a device (I'm a university student and unfortunately can not afford the full price for a new device. I'm willing to dive into the Exynos development scene and spend time on this device though, including extensive debugging).
Thank you two for your reasonable thoughts.
I think the main reason why the previous developers stopped developing for this device rather quickly is the Exynos chip.
The main difference between me and anyone else is (or so I believe) the fact that I am especially interested in developing for the Exynos 5420 chip and the drivers for it (mainly from the Insignal forum source).
As far as bricked devices, I can say I had a Samsung device before, and as long as the bootloader is unlockable and access to ODIN (The firmware flashing tool) is granted, a hard brick is rather hard to achieve. I see little risk here, and I assume my previous development experience will prevent me from making major mistakes in that regard.
A new device would cost me approximately 350€, so if we could collect about 300$ with donations (which would equal something like 270€), I'd pay the remaining costs.
People are of course free to check my development history and/or references first and see if they think I would benefit the aosp development scene for this device.
The ROM I mentioned (Team EOS 5.0 lollipop) is essentially AOSP 5.0 with selected features that we code ourselves, like EOS Weather, or the NX gesture interface.
If people however see the need for an official CM maintainer, I'd be happy to become this as well, all I need is a device to debug and develop on, I'd be willing to spend the time to officially maintain this device.
Other developers and/or contributors should also expect support from me in areas of kernel development or AOSP custom ROM development. I believe in 'sharing is caring', so all my knowledge and achievements on this device shall benefit the community.
If some of you could maybe contact the people who raised donations before, I'd be thankful and gratious for the support. All donations will be listed here and the whole process shall be as transparent as possible.

Hi there,
nice to see that at least one person is not scared away by the exynos cpu
You can count me in for 15€
I have a question though:
How is this handled? Are we donating all at once when enough people have expressed their will to donate?
Or should I already donate so that you can be sure that I'm serious?

The donating is a personal thing. I worded things in the op to be safe. It's just easier if people pledge, say they are gonna donate, and then once the amount has been reached people can actually donate.
Say for example, there are no pledges and we raise 200 dollars that people have already donated in a few weeks and then people lose interest and not a lot of donations come in anymore. I don't want people to be angry if the dev doesn't end up getting the tablet. :good:
Better to pledge but if you want to donate right now that's fine. Either way i'll add you to the list
Could you in the title add that this is for the exynos variant. It mislead me into thinking this was for the snapdragon until I read a little.

Sprint device tree bounty

Hello.... I'm starting this thread to set up a bounty for a working device tree.. For the sprint note 4..I am lacking in time to create one myself but have all the experience and ability to use it... So figured I'd offer a bounty to anyone willing to create us a working device tree to use to build Roms from source.... What I'm wanting is a tree that I can build cm and aosp based Roms from.... I'm not asking for Roms I'm asking for a tree that works that I can use to build the Roms myself as well as others.....
If interested in chipping in please list the amount and I'll add your name to the list..... Please Only people who are actually going to donate when/if the time comes ..
Thanks
Bounty:
spleef : $75
Herk718 : $20
Total: $95
@Herk718 $20
I understand the intention here, but I've always found that bounties immediately move work into closed repos, discourages collaboration, and raises questions about who gets the $ if for example, someone gets it 99% there but someone else jumps in for the last step. Will the bounty be split among all collaborators? Will you award the authors of any device repo you fork from? (It's turtles all the way down)
If you want development in the open and people helping each other to get your goal, consider not having a bounty as it's almost never the primary motivator for this kind of work... And often works against what you want. I can tell you personally... My experience with the nook tablet and bounties from a company that wanted to sell the port was pathetic. People were constantly hitting me up on irc and in PM for help, and stealing each others work, and making tiny changes to claim the bounty. Go back and read the forums for acclaim...
Or, look up what happened with the HP Touchpad, which is even more egregious... That fiasco made it to the blogosphere... But the code was flat out stolen and the irc logs pretty jaw dropping.
This is a MUCH smaller project, but still...

@fattire
I do understand where you are coming from...these bounties most always end badly where someone does exactly as you described but let me try to ease some of your doubts....
What I'm looking for is for a person or team to step forward... Then after a discussion with them I'll add their name to the op as being the person doing the task.... Now no matter who else jumps in or steals code the money will only go to the person or team that I've talked with and is listed in the op..... So far as money split.... I would... during our discussion prior to having someone accept the task... And listing them as accepting the project talk this over and have it all mapped out as who gets what. What I'm expecting... What they're expecting.. The whole nines... Now these type of situations have a tendency of folks saying I'll donate then don't... If that were to be the case I'll donate the full amount myself... To address the closed repo.... I have a github account and have had one for years as well as being an XDA member for ages.... With a very good reputation.... My account on github is open and always will be... The idea here is to have a source for the public not just me...I have no intention on making anything private or closed source...... My only intentions are too get a device tree that we can use to build cm and aosp based roms from source... The idea of the bounty is solely to draw attention and offer a incentive to someone who is interested, willing, and able to provide us with the tree... I hope I've cleared up at least a little of your worries/doubts....And to be perfectly honest ...I hope that you and slayher accept the task... If you need to further discuss anything please feel free to contact me...I have several ways of doing so listed in my profile but I'll go ahead and list my hangouts info... [email protected]

Heh I came to post that Slayher started a repo but there ya go.. guess he posted it already No worries on the bounty thing-- I've just seen it go bad before... it was a cluster****. That was a 3-month project tho.. this shouldn't be anything like that.

Donating to Developers

This is not a Nexus 6 specific question, but I'd like to hear from other users about how much to contribute to a developer whose work you either use or who makes a special contribution to the Android community. I typically donate only once, and I try to make "generous" donations. Question is, what is considered an appropriate dollar amount. As I said I try to be "generous", but that is a vague term, and I am not a wealthy user. I won't state here what I consider "generous" for fear of embarrassing myself or others.

I am not afraid to state what i donate anywhere between 20-50 dollars depending on the work. Root exploits bootloader unlocks. It really depends on the work.
I am not saying no work should go un noticed. Just saying that people offer more for much looked at project compared to others. Like people love xposed they will donate more than to someone that developed something else not so popular. Again I am not bashing anyone or any developer. Just depends on what is being developed IMHO.
I like to think my donation can buy them a good six pack of beer. so in my mind around $10 maybe $25 if they are doing outstanding work .
I also usually support developers in the Play Store even if I really don't need their particular application. I have probably spent $200.... 1 dollar at a time.

Lineage OS 14.01

I personally used every cm13 and lineOS14 from Meticulus and the development was good. Android as a open source OS developers preferring money for developments is completely not the right way. Hope that the developers figure out this problems and not abandon hundreds and thousands of users who trusted the developers and have love and passion for a clean OS to their phones.
Stawp.
He got pissed off bc people did not respect the rules in 8 out of 10 replys in his Dev Thread not bc he wanted to be a millionaire, wtf?
He mainly build the source. If he decides to ask a donation for it so people will buzz off it's his problem not yours.
Next time respect rules in Dev Thread.
(i am not a sponsor of his)
But, nothing see?
Server of devs cost Money
Build machines cost Money
Devices cost Money
Example:
Build machine (basic) on old hardware but 64b support= 150$
Basic Server = 50$ per year

Meticulus uses a free webhost and a free domain. = 0 $
Community donated for his p9 lite = 0$
Build machines aka his pc is his own property for daily use so all in all he pays nothing.

And the internet are free?
And the time?
You job and no receive Money?
Do you think it's okay to sell other's work ?
Do you think those who contributed to lineage os will be happy to see someone making profit out of it ?

You are not obligated to receive any money for your home needs from us. We all pay for basic needs, things you do here you wilingly choose to do as volunteer and making projects based on someones else source(lineage os) is not a full time job. So making roms is NOT a full time job, it's a volunteer job.
Ok....

To the point well said. Asking for a donation is no problem. But distributing a free OS only for a payment is not legally correct even.
Can we please end this debate? He got his P9 Lite from donations and uses free hosting services, so stop crying for him. Putting open source software behind a paywall is something the guy should be called out for, and that's it. He thinks he will get rid of the guys "bothering" him with questions, but the reality is he has a much lower user base so he also receives much lower feedback.
I follow the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 subforum where people ask even more retarded questions than people ask here on the P9 Lite subforum, but the developers never said "OMG this is so noobish I will stop developing"... But that's his decision and who am I to judge really...
The only choice we have is to wait for the official OTA and then find a way to root so we can debloat it... Or pay the guy's fee and enter his "secret" G+ group and receive updates from him. That's all.

This is bs and I'll tell you why. You can call a mod to clean the thread when things get out of hand.
beanstown106 must be a god :"D
I'm going to stop this one here guys. People are free to do what they want of course, but asking for donations for anything other than a tip and and a thanks, is not allowed on XDA. :good:
Cheers,
