Unlimited data plan price increase to $50. - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo General

Looks like Verizon hates loyalty. UDP price to increase from 29.99 to 49.99. Get on contract to lock in the price.

I've heard having a discount on your account also keeps the $30/month from increasing.

I have heard nothing of the sort.. Any info to back that up???

Really not surprising. They will keep changing things to make those that have unlimited give it up to reduce the number of unlimited till they pull the plug of the remaining.

I just dont get why they would give those already getting a discount a chance to stay on it at a cheaper price. Doesnt really seem to add up. I do have a corporate discount on file, so I guess time will tell, however I would ask your friend again and see if they have any extra details.
Thanks!

Well if they start increasing prices then they'll end up losing customers in the long run.

I filed a complaint with the FCC and received a call from Verizon. I was told that prices on corporate ACCOUNTS will not be raised . those with employer discount will be raised... Big difference. We will however be able to upgrade and keep the unlimited data. I encourage everyone to file a complaint with the FCC, and BBB. Oh and tethering will not be included .

So let me get this straight, we'll be able to upgrade at a subsidized price now instead of doing the workarounds that are used to be forced to do?

Wait that's huge news if that's true. I was about to pull the trigger on the Turbo 2, but now I'll wait to hear more about this.

Whiners
50 bucks for "real" unlimited 4g speeds? I'll take it.

I checked yesterday. You will be able to use the device payment plan. If you have lines that do not have unlimited data you can transfer the upgrade to that line and use a traditional upgrade path

Wow holy crap, I'm okay with paying the extra amount a month if I can do this now. That's wonderful news.

I think it takes effect on November 12th or 15th for the billing portion. When the upgrade paths are opened up I have no clue but one would assume that as soon as they are billing you more then you could purchase a device on payments.

Ah, I'll keep that in mind. I wanted to order the Turbo 2 asap but I'll have to see how that works. Thanks for the info though.

Did anyone get a notice from Verizon when signing into their account from a computer? My friend who isn't on corporate got the notice but I'm on a corporate account and didn't get one. That might be the differentiation.

I would advise buying the phone before that date if you can upgrade now with a work around. You'll save money in the long run. If you said to upgrade after that date you'll end up paying an extra $480 over the course of 2 years.

Oh, I thought the first was the last day for the upgrade? I didn't know I had more time to lock it in. Once the orange accents are in stock I'll try to do it asap. I still have to find more concrete info on locking in my contract but I'm going to try my best to get it done.
EDIT: Quick question for you since I noticed you mentioned your method in the Turbo 2 section. If I transfer my upgrade from my line (UDP) to my mother's line (2GB, still in contract for 1 more year) does my contract lock in for two years starting immediately, or do I have to follow through with upgrading her device to get it locked in?

That's a good question. What should happen is that the contract date of the TDP line should switch to the UDP line. So they kind of swap with each other. So let's say you have an upgrade available on your UDP but your TDP has a contract renewal date of 10/21/2016. I believe what should happen is that you're UDP line gets changed to 10/21/2016. And then, let's say you buy a phone today on the TDP, you would have a new contract renewal date for the TDP on 11/3/2017. But you do actually have to follow though with the upgrade for the new dates to take effect.
My Turbo should come in tomorrow, so I will let you know what happens with my contact renewal date on my UDP line. There was a glitch in the system last year where I bought the original turbo and did the same exact thing, but my contact date never changed.
I transferred my upgrade to my sister's tiered line and then activated it on her line. After activating it, I popped in my SIM the phone was mine. My contact renewal date never changed though. It still said I had an upgrade available, that's why I was able to do it again this year on the Turbo 2.
As of right now, I just checked the Verizon website and it still says I have an upgrade available on my line. I'm wondering if the glitch happened again. I'll let you know tomorrow what happens.

Awesome, that's really helpful, thank you. So basically all I have to do is login to my account, transfer my upgrade to the other line, and then go to Verizon and upgrade her phone, correct? Seems simple enough. I'm actually pretty worried about losing my UDP even though I know it's a proven method haha. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you end up paying for the Turbo 2? Or is it full price?

Sprint Premier - For the people who dont no

Early phone upgrade
Sprint says
''To thank you for choosing us, we treat you to incredible savings on primary phone upgrades every 12 months--10 months earlier than our standard offers (requires a 2-year service agreement). We also waive the upgrade fee, and, if you upgrade online, you can forget the shipping and activation fees.''
Now im on a family plan with five people. We have a Premier Account. My line is the primary, but i just got an upgrade in september.
So I called Sprint to see what I can do to get the EVO for $200. They said that when you have a Premier Account that if you can't use it then anyone else on the account can.
So he told me to just put the EVO on my dad line 'sence he is not going to use it'. Then right after you get the phone just put it on your line.
Just thought I would share
kinda old news ive been doing this for years jumping phones from line to line to use the 1 year upgrade works every time
Keep in mind thought, If you buy from the sprint store you wont get the $100 mail in rebate if you switch the phone off the line within 30 days. Confirmed that at 3 different stores. So go get one from BB or RS. lol

Confusing enough. Anyone have exact steps on how to swap do this for 2 or more lines (we have 3).
They are constantly calling my cell phone with this offer, its just me and my wife and since I rooted her HTC Hero she really has no complaints about the phone. I was wondering if I should get her the Epic but a good deal none the less.
Perhaps I am dense, but I would to ask how could I benefit from this. I got the evo for me and a second for my gf. I signed a 2 yr agreement. I also know that I am a phone junkie and I doubt I keep any phone for even one year before I start jonesing for the latest hardware, let alone 2. It's silly that I sign a two year when I never keep then that long. I usually buy them from eBay and or pay early term fees.

Explain your situation nicely and mention a few times you are premier. Keep saying you want an EVO you want an EVO. They will help you. Politely speak to a supervisor and just outlet them off the phone. Done be rude, and you shouldn't be disappointed.

All you have to do is have any line that is eligible for the upgrade price. Order the phone, and go online, assign it to whichever number you want it to be on.
Or if you buy the phone at upgrade price at the store, just have them put it on the line that you want. Perfectly fine.

evo off contract

i asked this in a thread a while back, but it got passed up.
if you purchased and activated an evo off contract, what was there to gain? it seems like it wouldn't be worth it for the evo, since everyone was supposed to upgrade their plan a mandatory simply everything data plan + premium data. before with other phones, i could see the allure, but now, not so much, unless you found a way to keep your old plan.
i suppose if you weren't due for an upgrade, you had no other option but to buy it that way. Then Sprint can change your plan without extending your contract.

that makes sense. it just seemed like alot of people got it in their heads that they would not be tied down to a contract no matter what, and it didn't seem to be worth it anymore.

Lol i laugh when customers tell me they arent due for an Upgrade. Ive upgraded 4 times this year. But yea there is NO way yo keep your old plan. The Evo is only compatible with the Everything Data Plan and the Simply Everything Plan. No exceptions. Ive tryed everything to get around it. I had to leave me Sero Plan to get the evo
i'm on the everything data plus plan (long story) but that was about all i could do.
I got mine off contract, and the only thing that changed in my plan was adding the additonal $10 fee, which did not affect my contract expiration date (which is still October 1st).
I bought mine from best buy for the $200 dollar two year contract. My old contract expired earlier this year. Now, somehow my account shows that my contract expired 2 1/2 years ago. Not that I'm complaining, but anyone know how that could have happened? I double checked with the upgrade checker on best buys website, it shows the same thing.

expiration dates don't change if you are not receiving anything (subsidized phone on the same line, 75/150 off your bill.)
i should have wrote "mandatory". it looks like you lucked out. what plan do you have?

How did I luck out? I didn't renew my contract because I bought it off contract. Anyone else could do the same thing. No one forces you to use an upgrade.

I buy all my phones outright. I would have bought my Evo if I didn't get one free from Google. Only phone I ever got on-contract was my 1st gen iPhone. At this point I go through 2 phones a year so off contract is way cheaper for me.

i thought everyone had to change their plan to one of the new ones regardless if they activated an evo on their account. if my last statement is correct (barring rulebending/sweetalking/retentions/ etc. or the oct. 1st sero rumor), then you are lucky to have your same plan (+$10).

i used to get mine off contract, but with having to get the new plan, i just didn't see a reason. once again, your situation is somewhat different than the norm since you got the i/o phone, and since you switch phones so often, it would make sense as your phones retain most of their resale value. i guess my question goes out more to the people who are eligible for a full upgrade.
thanks for the replies
The additional $10 fee doesn't change or extend your plan. It just adds $10/month, the same way insurance adds $7/month.

True, with OTHER PHONES. If you (or anyone else) were able to get by without having to change plans, cool, they just didn't write the terms that way for THIS PHONE.
"If you’re already a Sprint customer but have a different plan, you’ll have to change plans when you activate your device. Also, once you change your plan, you will not be able to change back to your old plan if we no longer sell it, even if you go back to your old phone."
Nothing in their verbage says you have to extend your contract of enter one if you pay full price or get it from another party, but the terms for the evo state that if you use the phone on sprint, you have to change your plan. will people be able to get away without having to? of course, but I already mentioned that in my last post.

I am pretty sure that would only work where you have a WiFi signal, and you may be limited to no MMS, since MMS can't be sent/received over WiFI.

Get out of your Verizon contract

It's possible to break out of your Verizon Wireless contract in the next 60 days without paying an early termination fee because they're increasing the "regulatory fee" they charge customers from $.13 to $.16. This is what is known as a "materially adverse change of contract" and by standard contract law, it renders the contract void if one of the parties doesn't like the change.
More information at Fatwallet and consumerist.com.
Hope this helps

So a few questions if anyone has gone this route in the past:
What is the process to follow to do this? Do you just walk in and ask to be let out of your contract?
Are there any negative consequences if you decide in the future to go back to Verizon?
If you break the contract, can you remain with VZW until you purchase another phone/plan from someone else (Sprint)?
Dumb question. but if you do this can you sighn up for another 2 year contract for the discount on a new phone.

Breaking the ETF does not entitle you to an upgrade on your equipment. So basically you would have to start a new line of service if you do not have an upgrade. This means losing your current mobile number, and possibly paying additional activation fees/pro-ration on your next bill. If you do not care about losing your current mobile number, I say go for it.
The primary benefit I see in this is if you are already planning on switching carriers, and are currently under contract.
Monthly bill with verizion is getting too much for me especially since a lot of my family members are wishing to get smartphones.
This will be useful for me as I do not wish to pay 600 dollar to end the contract of 4 phones.
I did this yesterday. It took five minutes and was probably the easiest call I had with Verizon ever. I'm glad I don't have to give them another cent. I was told I wouldn't be able to continue paying month by month on the line but I'm not sure about signing another agreement. I wouldn't be surprised if they denied you.

Could you shed some lights on your conversation? eg how you started and what did they say?
Thanks
I called and went straight to retention (I can't remember if I called the usual customer support number or the 1-888 number on the bill but either way it shouldn't matter). A woman picked up and I said I'd like to cancel my cell service because of the increase in the Regulatory Charge. She asked if they were indeed raising the price so I read the "Notice of Change To Regulatory Charge" from my bill. She asked when I received notice of this and I told her it was on my current bill. She asked if there was anyone else I'd rather just transfer the line to, I said no. Somehow I ended up reading her the bold part from the second paragraph below. She asked me if I was planning on taking the number to a different carrier, I said yes. She told me the ETF would show up on my bill with a credit, the line was being disconnected (I assume at the end of the current billing cycle) and that I'd be unable to continue paying month by month on that line because of how I was canceling.
I don't recall her even talking to a supervisor. I had the following copied straight from the user agreement just in case though.
An hour later I left the Sprint store with my number, a $125 credit for leaving verizon and an HTC Evo 3D.
What Charges Are Set by Verizon Wireless?
You agree to pay all access, usage and other charges that you or the user of your wireless device incurred. For Postpay Service, our charges also include Federal Universal Service, Regulatory and Administrative Charges, and we may also include other charges related to our governmental costs. We set these charges; they aren't taxes, they aren't required by law, they are kept by us in whole or in part, and the amounts and what they pay for may change.
Can Verizon Wireless Change This Agreement or My Service?
We may change prices or any other term of your Service or this agreement at any time, but we'll provide notice first, including written notice if you have Postpay Service. If you use your Service after the change takes effect, that means you're accepting the change. If you're a Postpay customer and a change to your Plan or this agreement has a material adverse effect on you, you can cancel the line of Service that has been affected within 60 days of receiving the notice with no early termination fee.

You could do this in a very roundabout way, particularly if you're not the primary line on a family plan.
If it's just you, they will make you wait at least 45 (that's what Sprint does) days (VZ could be 60 or even 75, I can't remember) days before you can sign up with them again.
If you want to save some $ and wait it out (when you come back in, you wouldn't be on unlimited, though), you could port your #(s) off to a prepaid carrier (Net10, TracFone, etc) and let it sit there while the waiting period runs out.
If you're planning on staying with Verizon, it's totally not worth it. If you've been looking to jump to Sprint (cheaper) or AT&T/T-Moble (LAWL), then it's a great time to do so.
Yeah, the only reason you should even consider doing this is if you'd been thinking about switching to Sprint at the end of your contract anyways (for the savings).
'Cause if you think Verizon is bad, just wait until you try AT&T or T-Mobile.
Looks like I am switching to sprint. OK to wait 2 weeks to do this, or will it be too late by then?

No competition there: the Epic 4G was meant to compete with the original Evo 4G and is thoroughly outclassed by the Evo 3D (single-core 1ghz vs. dual-core 1.2ghz, 512mb vs 1gb RAM, etc.).
The Nexus S 4G, while still a 1ghz single-core/512mb RAM device, is much newer, has some extras like NFC, and is a pure Google phone (read: instant updates) so it would be a far better second option.
Does anyone know if this took effect? I know it was scheduled for July 1st, but verizon may have found a way around it does anyone have the facts?
If I could somehow use this to get an upgrade without using my new every two upgrade, that'd be awesome. But I doubt it.

I just got off the phone with Verizon and they said I could not cancel without paying the ETF fee. Any ideas?

Did you ask to speak with a manager? Did you read the article from OP? They give plenty of pointers in the consumerist article.....

**Confirmed** Verizon giving me an early upgrade?

So I went on My Verizon account a few minutes ago to pay my bill and this is what it says next to the picture of my phone:
"Eligible for a Discount!"
"You ARE eligible to upgrade with discounted pricing. If you upgrade on or after 5/18/12 you are eligible to receive an additional loyalty discount."
And I clicked that and went to the page that shows available phones and pricing and it's showing 2-yr contract prices e.g. iPhone4 16GB new 199.99 and Droid Charge new 249.99. I thought it was an error and I clicked the Droid Charge and followed through up to payment and the total for the phone was 249.99 plus tax and activation. Obviously I didn't follow through because if I were to get a new phone it would be the Nexus Prime =D.
Last time I went to checked out phones it said I was not currently eligible for an upgrade and showed off-contract pricing. Is anyone else's account showing this? It has thrown me off a little bit.
Update 10/8:
Went to talk to a rep today and the main line on a contract gets to upgrade after 12 months. The pricing is based on a new 2-year commitment plus $20. Early upgrades can only be done at Verizon retail stores and online. Nexus Prime, here I come.
I saw the early upgrade as well.
I am not receiving the same treatment

my mom's line says the same thing. they'll let you upgrade and renew your contract but the phone will be at 2 year price with no additional discount for upgrading on or after your upgrade date.

I got an email from the with the early upgrade. I guess they want to add an additional 2 years to our contract. If you keep upgrading every chance you get, pretty soon, you've going to be locked into a 4 year contract making it almost impossible to leave.

How can they do that? By signing a new 2-year agreement the old agreement is invalid. That means that your contract expires 2 years after you sign the new agreement but not the 2 years plus the extra time left on the current contract.
The main line can actually upgrade once a year. But I at lower discounted price that 18 mths.

The prices is it showing me are prices I would pay at 18 months e.g. iPhone 4 16GB new 199.99 and Droid Charge new 249.99. These are fully discounted prices not partially discounted. Also, I thought Verizon did away with annual upgrades even for the main line?
Verizon did get rid of annual upgrades, but only earlier this year. If you signed a contract before they took the annual upgrade away then you are still grandfathered in.

Because they are some shiesty bastards lol. I called enough times and complained about my droid eris being laggy and not having enough ram to run the system let alone any added apps. I told them the only way to get it to run right is to flash a new rom, but that would void my warranty. Agent said he would let me chose any new device for free other than the thunderbolt(which was just released at the time)... So I had them send me a new fascinate and got to keep my eris, don't ask me how or why but they did it. About a week later when I went to log on my vzw account to pay bill I seen my contract was extended one year(on top of the 2yr I agreed to on the eris 6mo prior) without even telling me!! I didnt get too upset because they sent me a brand new fassy for free. My point is: Vzw wireless policy depends on the region of the country your call got directed to... I have been told so many different policies on what they can and cant do, you would think your talking to a completely different company. Vzw is the like the damn weather man, the forecast changes everyday!!!
Signing a new contract does not necessarily void a previous one unless it explicitly states so. Ever notice you sign a two year contract but they let you upgrade after 18 months.
2 reasons..1. they want as many people to update prior to the new 4th quarter phones come out. that way people will have used their upgrade discounts and pay a higher price for the latest phone.
2. they want to jack the revenues for the 4th quarter where vast majority of pure profit is made (think black friday).

By signing a new contact chances are you will no longer get the unlimited 4g, but fall in to there new tiered data plan. Be very cautious when upgrading your phone if you have unlimited now.

This is false...if you upgrade from 3g smartphone to 4g smartphone you keep unlimited data long as you had it before the tired plans went into effect. I called about it and went on the website to check. It would let me upgrade to lte and keep the same unlimited data just had to pay retail since im under contract right now.

Yea like I said I went through the entire process up to payment. It offered me the $30 2GB plan and my old Unlimited $29.99 plan. Obviously I would choose the latter. Only if this evasive Nexus Prime gets launched soon...
called vzn last week about the missed calls and not getting text or pic messaging and the tech i talked to said the problem is known and that vzn was allowing early upgrades plus an extra $50 off if you have a fascinate. told her that was nice but i shouldnt have to pay for a new phone since mine was less than a year old. still waiting for the second tech to call me back. not sure what they are going to offer as a replacement phone yet but it had better be good.
If you have the unlimited data plan, make sure they do not rope you in on their new data plans. When my Fascinate got replaced, the reps at the VZW store also changed my data plan as well. I was furious when I found that out, and they refused to fix it.
Called the VZW customer support, I explained the whole ordeal and they fixed my data plan back to unlimited. Just be cautious when you try to upgrade, make sure you'll get that unlimited data plan (disregard this post if you entered Verizon with the new data plans )

Also try going to Main Menu like you see in the Screenshot then you will be in my-verizon logged on mobile browser.
Then you should see Connections Offer on the left side, Under HOME section not plan.
If not then it might be because you have loyalty 10GB Plan before they were public to all people this might be why..
you can also try calling customer service they should be able to do add it for you.
Verizon removed offer?
So I just seen this thread today and tried with both stock browser and Chrome via my Note 4 and got this: See attachment.
Apparently Verizon has dropped this already?

Well, recently I had called Verizon CS regarding that other promo stuff listed here about 10gb data = 30 or whatever and also had noted one user actually opted for a $10 discount off their bill in place of (I believe) taking advantage of that offer.
So in the end. At that point in time, I had 3GB data on my plan. Talked to agent and as I mainly use wi-fi both at home and work and barely exceed 1gb average a month (yet it's nice to know I have some extra in case I want to stream pandora, ect... in car), anyhow, I ended up getting my monthly bill discounted (-$10) and an extra GB of data thrown in to equal 4GB at that time.
So in answering your question, I should be at least temporarily now at 5GB I suppose for the next couple months. :victory:

That's not bad.
You can get Loyalty Credit on Contract lines if it has little more then 1 year left on your contract.
Try calling and asking about "Loyalty Credit" not all lines can get it.
If contract has less then 1 YEAR LEFT it would extend contract END date by few months but not the upgrade date.
So you might save even more $$

Thanks for the info. Basically I just have my main line (The recently purchased Note 4) a month after my eligibility date from Sept 19th this year and a stupid Home Connect which I don't even use and it's contract expires this Nov 21st... Long story short, ex girlfriend whom I mistakenly at the time purchased and put a phone under contract had broken up with me so instead of paying the ETF, I went on Ebay at the time, purchased a Verizon Home connect box, and ported the number to it.
Looking forward to saving that extra $20 per month very soon!
