LG G Stylo (MetroPCS MS631) Katana ROM By GameTheory. Updated rev_11-16-2015 - LG G Stylo Guides, News, & Discussion

This is a link to GameTheory's rom. It wasn't showing up under Lg Stylo in the device search.
I recommend giving it a try.

Cool, and if you like you can report back in the Katana rom development thread.

ROM updated rev_11-16-2015
The rom is blazing fast now.
Head to the main rom thread here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/lg-g-stylo-ms631-katana-rom-t3231399
ROM Changes:
Many performance improvements
Barebones debloated (Get Gapps from play store & LG bloat apps from my deodexed bloat zips)
Kernel Changes:
GPU overclocked to 450 mhz (for improved gaming performance)
CPU undervolt on lower frequencies (for saving battery when idle or screen off)
Added HyperX governor and set to default (very fast)
Added Conservative governor (for battery saving)
Added SIO and FIOPS schedulers
Lowered transition latency for Ondemand governor from 10mil to 9mil (for smoothness)
Running kernel mode NEON
-O2 optimized (might go -O3 on next update)
New logger interface "/sys/kernel/logger_mode" (0 = disable & 1 = enabled) 0 is default. Ask on forum how to use.
cflags optimizations (-mtune=cortex-a53 -mfpu=neon-vfpv4 -fgraphite -mfloat-abi=hard) and many more.
Make sure to follow the new install instructions. This is a major revision so make sure to clean wipe and flash.
LG deodexed bloat apps can be found in the "Optional Flashable Extras" section of the download page. You'll also find Cyanogen AudioFX and Dolby Atmos equalizers there.
Change log in post #2 will be updated shortly.
Enjoy folks.

So, i apologize in advance, but im om currently on "TURBO'S" latest build, but trtryingo flash to the latest "KATANA" build, but when I try, in TWRP, It IMMEDIATELY reboots back into TWRP, and I have TRIED EVERYTHING other that going all the way back to stock, so anybody know a trick ??

1. Boot into twrp and make a backup if you don't have one.
2. click on wipe and do the factory wipe not the advanced wipe.
3. Install and flash the Katana rom don't reboot yet.
4. Make sure you flash the correct one of these zips for the MetroPCS or T-Mobile partitions from HERE.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=43660
5. Wipe Dalvik Cache and reboot. It can take up to 5 mins
6. Enjoy

I have followed every step in the process, I even restored it to stock using the 10j KDZ file, re-rooted, installed TWRP, but the problem im having is really specific, and sounds like it could be something simple that im missing.
Lirerally ANY time i attempt to flash ANY .ZIP, it just reboots into recovery immediately. I still have the device working fine on the old turbo rom backup that I made, But i really want to flash KATANA. So can it be the wrong version of TWRP maybe ? I only flashed the TWRP version listed in the rom install instructions.
If has any clue what this could be, please let me know, thank you in advance.

Uninstall Instagram and reinstall. I was on Katana for a long time and I use Instagram alot.
Also, is it freezing when using the camera on Instagram or just when opening and browsing Instagram?

Biggins Rom

Hello- I am wondering if you can help me, yestyerday I had to reinstall the stock firmware for my note 3 on NC4 (thanks to Beantown's 106) after having great difficulty with the Biggins Rom ("unfortunately messagres has stopped, along with contacts and occasional android has stopped), I was unable to use the phone obviously let alone be able to explore this really cool rom. While trying to reset the phone, remove sache, dalvik, data etc. it did get to a point where the phone was stuck on the red Verizon Splash screen all the while Safestrap was still intact and by the end of the night after finding the stock firmware I was able to restore the phone to factory. The only issiue that I think would have caused these is finding and checking the boxes already set in 'root explorer' as opposed to what all the other apps are set to or possibly partitioning the new sd card but I doubt would cause an issue. I installed the rom the night before last and tried to fix the issue yesterday but was unable to which took most of last night to fix before I got it back up and running with the stock firmware. I would like to know how to get this rom back on without issues. Any advice would be great.

What firmware are you on? Were you OTA KK or MJE? (I know you said NC4, but was it OTA or did you use beans' .tar file?)

To properly run most KK roms you need to flash the NC2 kernel. Instructions and download can be found here. You will only need to flash the kernel. If you are following the step by step instructions you can substitute any supported rom for the stock rom.

Thank you for the instructions- I will give it a go, but first verizon instructed me to take the phone to best buy to see if there's a problem with data since it somehow ate up 96% of my 2 gbs yesterday while I had problems- of course I didn't tell them I was rooted- dofood you know if there's a way to tell if the nc4 was an OTA or it was installed that way or does it even matter?
Thanks again

If you are already rooted you don't need to change anything with you rom. Just flash the NC2 kernel found in the link from my previous post using Odin. The kernel is not the bootloader img, You are already on the NC4 bootloader and can not go back, but flashing the NC2 kernel will leave you with the so-called Unified firmware (NC2/NC4). This is what is needed for most KK roms.

Ok but is there a way to save the stock rom? when I root again and have any issue and need to go back to stock or I will need to DL the firmware again since I will have had the unified firmware on. Also since I like the stock rom besides the Samsung lag, I saw a rom that is based on stock but I think alot better from what I read and is deodexed, do you know what that means?
Thanks you!

Assuming you have Safestrap installed as it is the only way to flash a custom rom on retail Note 3, all you need to do is boot into Safestrap and make a backup. It will be stored on your external SD card and if you want to revert back to it simply wipe the stock rom slot in Safestrap then restore your backup. As you are on NC4 you won't be able to use a rom slot in Safestrap other than the stock slot, and you always want to wipe system, dalvik, cache, and data before installing any new rom.
Odex/Deodex is how the system stores and reads apps. Standard out of the box is usually (perhaps always) odex. This method breaks the apps into 2 parts. It allows for faster loading and searching of the system. Deodex keeps the apps as one entity. This means that the initial loading of the system will take longer but in the end we get easier customization/tweaking. Xposed framework needs a Deodex rom to run (I believe). I'm fairly sure most developers that make custom roms deodex their roms. (My understanding of Odex/Deodex may be flawed but this is a basic explanation, for more info you can always Google, or search these forums).

Hi thanks and yes I'll be googling more before doing. Do you have any idea while the phone was stuck on the verizon splash screen yet SS still worked, why the phone was sucking up huge amounts of data while on the Higgins Rom while it had issues and while trying to reinstall stock firmware?
Thanks again! I can't seem to find the "Thanks" button?

The splash screen freeze could have been caused by the rom not being compatible with the NC4 kernel combined with possibly wiping system via safestrap. Safestrap is not wiped when you wipe the system it remains installed separately (this is what allows us to wipe and install.
The data drain may also be linked to the incompatibility, however I would be unable to answer that as I have never experienced such an issue nor have I read about it on any forums.
Once you are set up with the proper firmware, I would suggest doing a factory reset before flashing any further roms. You may need to reroot and reinstall busybox and safestrap afterwards but it will reset any residual system alterations that may be left from the previous biggins problem.

I made a full backup of my stock nc4 rom before I flashed biggins rom and flashed nc2 kernel. I restored my stock rom to see if it would run on the nc2 kernel and it froze at the red Verizon splash screen. The nc4 kernel will need to be reflashed after going back to stock. However, biggins rom is basically perfect so I have no real intentions on going back anytime soon.

First, you are welcome. Second, did you flash in Stock Slot or a ROM Slot?
Generally, performance on any ROM for battery life is measured after the ROM has time to "settle". It was about 48 hours after I flashed Biggins that I noticed my battery life increase significantly. I can't say that for other ROMS, as I have only been on Biggins, but it seems to be the general consensus all in all.
I do know that if you flashed on a ROM Slot, that for some reason battery consumption is drastic. Again, some have reported otherwise, but in general that seems a culprit to some.
However you flashed the ROM, 3 things will help
1) Let the ROM settle. After 48 hours if you see that the battery is still suckus, then switch to alternate (Stock Slot or whichever)
2) Check your Wakelocks. There is an app in the playstore that you can dl that will measure what is running in the background and then you can shut it down using Greenify
3) Always Greenify
Greenify is a lifesaver to some, and added with a ROM that already has ridiculous battery life (that was meant in a good way ) then you can push about 2 days on one full charge.
Hopefully this helps, if not, then you know where to find me :good:

I dl'd in on the phone but haven't used it yet- I'm going to dl in here too ( wifi note 2014 10.1)- ya so last night roughly 8 or soon after I had 38% the night before 15% around same time so its getting better battery. The other day I saw carbon rom, have you seen that? you can minimize apps like pages on windows while running multiples but one sight said our note 3 isnt compatable yet a couple other carriers versions are. Another site said it is but I can't find it- it seems like the rom of all roms…

[ROM] LG V10 H901-10c Debranded, Debloated, Deodexed ROM - Clean & Stable

Debranded, Debloated, Deodexed H901-10c ROM for T-Mobile LG V10 (LG-H901) - Clean & Stable
Thanks go to @Rydah805 for deodexing the stock ROM and being my guinea pig while I was fixing all the broken features.
Thanks also go to @KOLIOXDA for being my guinea pig while troubleshooting installation issues.
Features:
WiFi Calling works with Xposed (even in Airplane Mode)
Second screen works with Xposed (no more force-closes during calls)
No spyware (Adapt Client and Carrier IQ removed)
No T-Mobile apps
No Google apps (except Play Store, Search, Text-to-Speech, and Google Play Services)
Stock LG boot and shutdown animations
No boot sound (boots silently)
No Chrome customizations (Chrome homepage no longer forced to t-mobile.com)
Stock recovery restore disabled (does not overwrite TWRP on reboot)
External storage permissions fix (all apps can write to MicroSD card)
WiFi connectivity fix by @ZDeuce2
AOSP Emoji font
Over 100 additional alarm, ringtone, and notification sounds from Nexus and Samsung phones
Busybox 1.24.1
SuperSU v2.65 stable
Stock 10c kernel and boot image
Download (built Feb. 08, 2016): https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=FE4478E2ABDFD5FC!1082&authkey=!AMAKMBsK8gCEhH0&ithint=file,zip
Changes in this build: Updated SuperSU to 2.65 stable.
Before you install, read below:
Safe to install over stock ROM (odexed or deodexed), no need to factory-reset, unless you're compelled to do so by your inner demons.
Compatible with Xposed v79-sdk22-arm64 and later (sdk22-arm64 ONLY). Do NOT install any earlier versions or other variants of the Framework. You must use Xposed Installer 3.0 alpha 4.
Compatible with P_Toti's G4TweaksBox.
Compatible with the LG Apps Theme Engine.
The T-Mobile Device Unlock app does not work on this ROM and is not included. The Play Store version does not work, either. To SIM-unlock your phone, flash the stock ROM, unlock (SIM-unlock is forever and not ROM-dependent), then flash my ROM.
To get back Google and T-Mobile (except Device Unlock) apps, install them from the Play Store. They all work. They were removed because system apps are not Greenifiable, plus they were causing problems when deodexed.
If you use an ad blocker that modifies your hosts file (such as AdAway), you must reapply your ad-blocking filters as this ROM overwrites your customized hosts file with a stock hosts file.
Do NOT install the "Second Screen Fix" ZIP, second screen works fine in this ROM with and without Xposed. The "Second Screen Fix" is only for odexed ROMs and will break the second screen in this ROM.
This ROM removes any mods you have installed. If you want to reinstall them, they MUST be made for a deodexed stock ROM. Mods for odexed or non-stock ROMs may cause force-closes or a bootloop (flash them at your own risk).
If you're still seeing My T-Mobile, Lookout, or the other apps in your app drawer after installing my ROM, those are updates that have been installed from the Play Store - uninstall them manually like any other user app.
DO NOT USE "FIX PERMISSIONS" IN TWRP. TWRP has no idea what permissions are correct for your phone and will screw them up, resulting in random force-closes in various apps. If you did it, you will need to wipe the entire /data partition (not just factory reset) and reflash the ROM.
If Hangouts crashes when you receive a message or call, it's because it can't find one or more notification or ringtone audio files. Go into your phone's Sound settings and re-select your notification and ringtone sounds, then go into Hangouts settings and re-select the ringtone and notification sound for each type of notification (Hangouts call, Hangouts message, Google Voice call, Google Voice message, and so on).
DO NOT INSTALL PowerNap/WakeLockManager. You will get random reboots and corrupt internal storage, since WakeLockManager randomly hard-crashes the entire ART virtual machine.
To disable the OTA notification: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66304926&postcount=1002
Installation:
WARNING: Do NOT install over a custom ROM. You will get a bootloop/force-close loop.
Copy ZIP file to phone.
Boot into TWRP.
If clean-installing, factory-reset the phone. The installer wipes the system partition automatically.
Install the ZIP.
If you want Xposed, install it now (use only v79-sdk22-arm64 or later).
Reboot.
WARNING: Do NOT install mods for other ROMs on this ROM. You will get a bootloop/force-close loop.
Do not reuse this ROM without my permission - ask first and give credit where it's due!
Enjoy!
PS. I will begin work on the Marshmallow version of my ROM once we have an official way of flashing TWRP on the Marshmallow bootloader. I want the upgrade process to be "Flash the MM KDZ, install TWRP, flash my ROM." Until then, sit tight!
So we don't factory reset or wipe anything? What if we have mods flashed as well?

No Factory Reset OR Wipe, just flash over what you have ATM.
Make a backup of your present set-up before flashing though, just in case something else pops up.
EDIT:
Removed my previous statement regarding mods/add-ons,they'll need to be re-flashed & only de-odexed mods will work per siraltus (ROM OP)

If you have mods flashed, this will remove them, so you will have to reflash them - but only if they're made for a deodexed stock ROM. If they're made for an odexed or custom ROM, they will likely not work, so flash at your own risk.

EDIT:
A flash over a factory reset would probably work,I don't see why it wouldn't,but,it's probably not necessary.
I didn't reset or wipe anything & I'm doing just fine.
I don't have Xposed or any sound mods installed, but,my bet is you shouldn't have any problem flashing over a set-up with Xposed or any other mods.

The ZIP wipes the /system partition automatically so there is no need to wipe it manually.
In fact, if you wipe it manually, the ZIP will fail because TWRP will lock the /system partition for an unspecified amount of time and you will need to reboot TWRP before installing the ZIP.
If you want to clean-install this, then do a factory reset, reboot TWRP, then install this ZIP. I updated instructions in OP to reflect this.
Thanks!! I'll be checking this out shortly!! :highfive:

Is it possible to change the DPI of the ROM without all the stock apps going crazy? I'm not sure of the status of xposed so I'm assuming thats outta the picture right now

The ROM is fully compatible with Xposed v79 SDK22 arm64.
No idea about changing the DPI. I don't recommend it as it seems to break things on this phone.
Dear Sir. Altus,
Thank you for the clean upload, and directions. Currently I am running Rydah805's deodexed rom that you were kind enough to work on fixing wifi calling, etc.
My question is: Is this rom different from Rydah805's V. 1.2.2 as stability and features goes? Would you recommend dirty flashing it over his rom?
Thank you all for your hard work and Happy Holidays
Best,
Bob

You're welcome. Yes, you should flash this over his ROM. I took his deodexed base and fixed everything that was broken in it (WiFi, Hotspot, power management, other stuff), and rather than cluttering the old thread, I started a new thread with a 100% tested build and clear instructions. I debloated and debranded it, added a few useful modifications, plus I made about 30ish corrections to broken permissions and SELinux contexts that were likely causing problems in his ROM that we had yet not discovered (the power management stuff was likely not functioning properly due to being denied proper privileges). Read the OP for a list of features and modifications.

You're welcome. There is no need for that, second screen works fine in this ROM with Xposed and without. The "second screen fix" is only required on odexed ROMs. Updated OP to reflect this.
I'm having this weird issue where the screen will become tinted, almost like there's a pop-up or the notification bar is pulled down. It'll usually go away after a second or if I tap somewhere on the screen, but it's kinda frustrating.

No, I was the second one to install it over in the original thread and I didn't have the issue with the actual stock ROM.

How much free space of the internal storage you have? It's recommended to keep at least 20% free, if you have less your phone can start to slowdown

That's strange, if it isn't after factory reset (without any apps installed) smooth, then try to download the stock firmware, put it on sdcard and reflash it with holding all 3 buttons when you're powering on your phone. Or you can try to disable some google services, that you don't use (like google play music, google now, google + etc...)

Well i disabled tons of apps like i always do when i pick a new android phone. Is there a dif between reflashing the stock firmware and wiping cache/dalvik cache? Also i dont have an sdcard available right now.
Flash CM13, a lot faster
If thats the only thing I can do, I will. But I dont like alpha builds, too much inconsistency for my taste..
If you have root access try the app L Speed, there is also the trimming feature
I'll root it as soon as i can, the website for unlocking the bootloader just doesnt work..
The english site usually don't work, I used the chinese one
Can u leave a link please?

LE: Lol i finally succeded to unlock bootloader, flash twrp, flash root and then i dont know why the **** i just wiped everything from the recovery including cust and system ) now i wait for the firmware posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p9lite/development/stock-firmware-links-t3468245 to download and to flash it.. hope it will fix.. im so dumb lol.
Try using trimmer, i ran it and my phone is much faster now.
I'm running the beanstalk as a daily ROM. I have flashed it dirty over cm13 build (configured finger id first then flashed beanstalk).
Both can be found on meticulus's website
Known bugs :
Endcall bug : displays FC message, does not affect the service.
No nfc
Finger id : fix with the dirty flash
Themes bug : fix is on the website
Its very smooth and has lots of features build in to customize and alter the phone.

Yeah, it is.
I can recommend SD Maid for boosting preformance and cleanup. There's not much more You can do without rooting Your device. Maybe disabling some background apps may help.

Actualy i unlocked the bootloader, flashed b161, flashed twrp, flashed root. I also installed xposed and enabled its features for greenify, amplify and powernap. This SD Maid sounds just like an cache and dalvik cache wiper, but maybe i missunderstood.
Any other suggestions?
I want to install medrom until N is leaked but simo255 said its based on b201, a firmware which i couldnt find for L21, only L31 and i dont know what i can screw up by flashing it over the b161. I dont have time to unbrick my phone if somethings going wrong..

Thank you for posting this rom. Had trouble finding it since it wasnt on the development page. Ive gone through about 7 roms and none were 100% working and I had a lot of trouble finding a way to get back to stock 21s for my X522. All the custom roms Ive tried either have a broken camera, missing cell broadcast, or hangouts wouldnt work on it when trying to make a call or use video chat. This is the only stable working rom Ive came across so far.

Answer is yes.
Well, if anyone is willing to help. I removed SuperSU and tried to replace it with magisk but I can't because my internal storage isn't showing up and it ask for a password to decrypt.

Try format data to remove encryption.
Is anyone else experiencing this? I know there is an issue with zoom being forced on when the phone is rooted. However my phone is randomly switching back and forth between zoom and normal by itself and it's most obvious in both chrome and Gmail where the text being a different size when I open it up. I've tried the build prop fix but it's still switching between both modes.

Maybe it's related with the modem, look for that and get some information how to flash the correct one.
I don't know what custom ROMs you had problems with but some need specific firmware to be flashed in order for things to work right. Usually that information is somewhere in the description of the ROM features and sometimes download links are also included. When you flashed custom ROMs did you clean flash them? You need to wipe the cache, system and data when changing ROMs. You also might need to flash back to stock before flashing some custom ROMs but if that's the case it should say that in the instructions for the ROM.

if you are trying to use lineageos 15 for your daily driver you are insane. Just use stock oxygen or freedomOS. Oreo is not official on OP5 yet you cant expect to use it and have it be flawless. Most apps i use dont even run on Oreo when i tried it. just revert.

Yes im sure the answer is actually as simple as wiping the device completely. Wipe all partitions and then format data. When formatting data if you forget to fix your internal storage rights you cant download anything so make sure you go to advanced then fix contents in twrp before installing stock oxygen. Once it is done boot the phone and let it go and try to connect to wifi. If you can then wipe your phone out and reinstall LAOS 15

Yea use twrp 3.1.1-1 to install the latest stock 4.5.13. make sure you wipe everything and re format everything. Just drop your necessary files onto a secondary source like a pc or google drive. After u wipe that stuff out reboot back to recovery. Go to advanced on the main menu and and fix contents. Do not skip this step or you wont have storage permissions which is necessary for installing roms properly. After that ensure everything is mounted on the mount section in the main menu. U should see a "firmware" option added as well, be sure that is checked too. Install stock 4.5.13 and see if wifi works. It should, if not it could be a hardware issue.

Gonna do a second post for another manner on this topic. Just use stock. Aint nothing wrong with it, its actually beautiful. Dont listen to whoever says its bloated or whatever. Its all allowed to be disabled if u dont want it. Stock rom with stock kernel is far better than any rom or kernel out there. Think of it this way, you have a device that an entire company made sure the software worked on that specific device as opposed to a single person or a group of 5 or so people made software that needs to run on any device. IE Lineage/Aosp and whatever customized stock oxygenos is out there. I use stock and stock kernel with kernel adiutor to disable some kernel features i dont need like input boost for example to save a lot of juice. I always test certain scripts for stock oxygen on the 3t and the 5 to maximize battery. I play with linux a lot so i merely tweak a few settings and turn some stuff off and on and run whatever for about a week to see which script works best for battery life and performance. Gotta say i cant pull certain SoTs or performance tests off stock because of instability or them being simply inferior. Flashing a bunch of things is cool but try to simmer down and come back to stock after youve exhausted all possibility of gaining more battery time.
I do have WiFi on stock roms and all OOS roms, just a heads up. Every time I flash them I am good on WiFi.
I'll be sure to check out the fix contents button in recovery.
So to flash CM roms and AOSP I should do this...
Flash Stock 4.5.13 > wipe > format > fix contents> check mounts (firmware checked) > flash custom roms
