[Q] Themes on HD2

Since we are not able to boot into recovery mode and run update.zip is there a way to manually apply themes to the Desire builds we are using?
Such as [MOD] Smooth Sense Icons v.1.0 (now with screenshots)
Thanks in advance.
+1
i have been asking this question since day 1..and no honest reply
I'd love to know how to skin android full stop I cant even get my hd2 to connect in usb mode
well...the only way to apply some themes is to replace framework-res.apk into system/framework/framework-res.apk...doing this with root explorer has no succes even if you ADB it..this will brick your build and u have to install again the whole system.ext2...!!everywhere is explaining that first phone must go into recovery mode to apply it..!!so,till now cant have any solution but only wait to make a function to have the possibility to run the phone into recovery mode..!!Be patient..soon we'll have it!

from what I've gathered a zimage is based around the kernal & drivers, with shubCRAFT you can connect via USB as long as its on debug.

It's possible to change framework-res.apk through the terminal, can't say this will work for everyone and it may completely screw your android build, so a titanium backup couldn't hurt. This was done on shubcraft 1.4d to theme back to stock android (if your looking for the framework, it's somewhere in the shubcraft thread).
1. Place your new framework-res.apk in the root of /sdcard.
2. Run terminal.
3. su
4. mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
5. cd /sdcard
6. cp framework-res.apk /system/framework
Reboot and hopefully success.

are for phones that can be rooted and flashed with recovery..for us on the hd2 we HAVE to adb every file 1 by 1...sucks..and even the terminal method..you will see errors on your phone..i wish darkstone would just say how he put the espresso on his rom.
Go to market and Download ROM Manager from Clockworkmod it's free.
Put the theme on the root of the SD
open ROM Manager
click install from SD
pick out the theme you just put it.
Reboot
themes are ROM/framework specific which is why certain themes are only available for certain ROMs. shu8i builds are based off of cyanogen and are therefore the easiest to theme IMO. I have done a theme thread for that particular set of builds and have had great feedback from users.
So FWIW, a theme cannot be applied to just any ROM. If you want to get into it, you will need to find and extract the .PNG files from the framework-res.apk , pull the framework-res.apk from the build you are currently running, replace the images, and replace the framework-res.apk in your build with the patched one with the new .PNG's
there are plenty of TUTs on XDA explaining how to theme, only difference is us HD2 users have to manually push the files instead of using the convenience of an update.zip that is flashable in recovery.
Moved you guys over to general.. Best of luck!

I understand that this thread is old, but I just found it. Trying to install a new framework-res.apk to my device using this method. I have it in a zip file (which is the format that would be used on a normal device to flash it from recovery mode).
Well I tried this; it lets me choose the theme (zip file) that I want, and it then prompts me to choose OK to reboot in recovery mode and continue the installation. Nothing happens when I choose OK.
Any further info on how to do this? What am I doing wrong?

[Q] Legend Froyo update for ROM 1.27.466.5

I called HTC support in Egypt about 10 days ago to ask about the update and they confirmed HTC Legend Froyo update is available with version 3.30.466.6 and the update is rolling in batches by the phone IMEI, please has anybody got this update? my phone is showing "Your phone is up to date" !!!
There is an update available already for 1.27.466.7 to 3.30.466.6 but we don't have the original ROM to make a custom ROM or extract the Arabic support!

I called HTC Support to tell them about the problem with updating to Froyo, they told me: I have either update the phone within Safe Mode or take the phone to Support Center in Cairo and they will update it manually within 2 hours.
I guess there is a missing update my phone needs to get: 1.27.466.5 to 1.27.466.7 and that must be manually updated.
I hope this helps some one out there.
I have the same problem. so what is the solution only going to the software support for them to update.
You have two options actually:
1. Wait the update to come to your phone
2. Go to the support center and do the update
I went to the support center and upgraded my phone to froyo, It took 2 hours, and they did for free, I'm now a happy FroYo phone owner .
My phone now has SW# 3.30.415.6
Remember to backup all your data and apps before you go, they will do a factory data reset to the phone.
Working hours of the support center is from 11AM to 6PM.
Can you softroot it and make a dump of /system.

I tried already using "Universal Androot 1.6.2 beta 5", did not work, do you have another way that is compatible with FroYo 2.2?
Download Tools.zip
We will need to do a backup of the SYSTEM partition of your phone.
1- Use VISIONary to temp root your phone but make sure USB Debugging is enabled for it to work.
2- Extract the Tools.zip to c:/tools
3- use CMD command prompt and type below commands
cd c:\tools
4- push busy box to your phone
adb push busybox /data
adb shell chmod 755 /data/busybox
5- make a copy of the system parition
adb shell
su
/data/busybox tar -cv -f /sdcard/system.tar /system
6- finally upload the system.tar file from the root of your sdcard.
zorbakun said:

I guess he will have to push it to /data/local or /data/local/tmp directory:
Code:
adb push busybox /data/local
adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/busybox
...and execute it from there:
Code:
adb shell
su
/data/local/busybox tar -cvf /sdcard/system.tar /system
Ok I'll try all of that, but I have 2 questions:
1. Is this a softroot and will go away once I restarted my phone?
2. Does this will collect my personal data with it when I TAR the system partition?
1. Yes.
2. No.

ATT 2.3.5 SystemUI Quickpanel

ATT 2.3.5 SystemUI
quickpanel_title_background.9 I Can not define
This is nice!
A few suggestions:
- Less icon spacing. Should fit at least 5 on the screen at once.
- No vibrate icon. It's unnecessary. Holding the power button works fine.
- Brightness control.
Thank you. Well done

I'm on a rooted US ATT 2.3.4. How can I get this to install? I tried abd install, that didn't work...

EDIT: I think I figured it out. You have to go into /system/app and rename SystemUI.apk and SystemUI.odex to have .bak then copy the modified SystemUI.apk and then chmod 644 it. Rebooting now...will keep you posted!
EDIT2: Yep! Totally worked! GENIUS!! THANKS!
Do I really need to use adb or can do chmod by using some tool on phone?

You can do all this with Root Explorer if you have it. Same idea.
I think the OP is trying to edit the SystemUI.apk to include more functions. If so, may take a look here. Not sure if that will help too much or not...?
for the other posting people, here's what I have been running for a while..
basically Darkside's stock SystemUI with a theme hacked together from thread mentioned above as well. MIUI Icon set I think is what he says...
To install:
Download file to C: or where ever(if downloaded to someplace else, fix path in the commands below).
Start Menu --> Run --> cmd
On Windows 7 (or XP): hold the Windows Key on keyboard and press R together. Input CMD and hit OK
On Linux: well, you know whats up
On MAC: unplug the computer and toss it out the window.. j/k. This wont work for you though. Follow normal procedure to use ADB in your teminal
Inside CMD Prompt, in this order:
adb push C:\SystemUI.apk /sdcard/SystemUI.apk
adb shell
su
/bin/mount -o remount,rw /system
cp /sdcard/SystemUI.apk /system/app/SystemUI.apk
chmod 644 /system/app/SystemUI.apk
exit
exit
adb reboot

Many many thanks! This needs to be in new thread. please post it or I will.
I really liked the darkside ROM, But I soft bricked my phone at least 15 times trying Arabic letters connecting solutions under 2.3.5. So I flashed the Aura ROM missing the quick panel from the Darkside ROM the most.
Not only I have the quick panel now with Aura 2.3.4, the icons also look cleaner/better.
Great job. Thanks to you and Nottach also!

It's just the latest Aura ROM (found in the development section) + this awesome quick panel MOD.
Aura is based on 2.3.4. I noticed that arabic fonts were connecting properly in the system+browser with Aura ROM as-is. No framework.jar or lebwebcore.is hacks are needed with that ROM.
Root+Battery % icons MOD+No carrier logo MOD+proper Arabic font connecting+this quick panel MOD is pretty much what I want now in my Atrix. Currently happy to have all that.
Not to mention a lot of other plus features Aura ROM adds.
Hi,
I was using this mod on 2.3.4 and it was great! Just upgraded to Android OS 2.3.6 (att build 4.5.141) and it just boot loops until I replace it back with the original. Is there any way to modify this to work on 2.3.6? Or, is there a version around that I'm not finding that will work on 2.3.6?
Thanks!

Are you using the internal memory, or the external one? If you are using the external, and extracted the zip file there, you need to enter the path on sdcard1. So it's: sh /sdcard1/mrw/root.sh

Ah ok. I read SD card as SD card. Didn't realize he meant internal. I ran it, and it kept coming up with errors that kingroot stopped working. Is that what it is supposed to do? Also now that i have SU on it ( I assume) what next? do I need a specific rom for these? IE I have a telus phone so should I look for a international rom or can I flash any? [Z3+, Z4, Z5] Fix camera FC after installing Xposed

Newer firmware for Xperia Z4 Tablet, Z5, Z5 Compact, Z5 Premium have FC problem after you install Xposed framework.
This is caused by error at com.sonymobile.camera.addon.common.marketmode.MarketModeListLoaderInterface.
As this is odex problem, maybe rovo can't fix it.
(he said he can't if error is caused by currupted odex file in issue thread for other Xperia device, I'll make new issue)
So, how to fix manually?
1. Download JoelDroid Lollipop Batch Deodexer
2. Copy your framework and priv-app dir in /system to PC (you can extract from FTF or your device)
3. We don't need to deodex all apps, so delete all dirs in priv-app other than CameraCommon
4. Delete arm dir in priv-app/CameraCommon dir
5. Deodex with JoelDroid Lollipop Batch Deodexer
6. Push deodexed CameraCommon.apk to system
By adb:
Code:
adb push CameraCommon.apk /data/local/tmp
adb shell
su
busybox mount -o remount,rw /system
dd if=/data/local/tmp/CameraCommon.apk of=/system/priv-app/CameraCommon/CameraCommon.apk
chmod 644 /system/priv-app/CameraCommon/CameraCommon.apk
rm -rf /system/priv-app/CameraCommon/arm
rm -rf /system/priv-app/CameraCommon/arm64
7. That's it, reboot and your camera should work now.
NOTE
When you installed Xposed at the first time, first two-three booting will be bootlooop, but it's needed for preparing (for now).
Just wait for normal boot.
I had similar problem on other apps!
Some of other Sony apps have same problem.
You can fix them by same way as camera.
How to fix Sony Album app (thanks @alphatact1cs):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64854923&postcount=23
Edit: Sorry, I'm pretty tired, I didn't notice that 'framework' is the name of a folder located into 'system'

Ok, thanks DHGE
I try again next week to install Xposed. But I need more info.
You have a classes.dex file in your deodexed CameraCommon.apk ?
What is its size ?
I'm on jre8, lbd 2.5, sgp771 firmware 260
Some users report the androplus method works but they don't give their specs
May be there is another system app to be deodexed for the CameraCommon app to work.

I can not answer your question since my Windows7 virtual machine where I tried the fix is out of reach for me atm.
I still get the error message "camera.common stopped working" even though I deactivated the camera app.
The whole thing is not a big deal for me since the Google camera app works and I shoot my photos with serious equipment anyway and not with a tablet.

Excuse me, I don't understand if the Z5C supports Xposed or not: in the first post is listed, but rovo89 says System.apk can't be deodexed as far as he knows. Does Xposed work? Which version?

Maybe you read issue about other Xperia models (M2, T2...).
Xposed (v79, arm64) is working for all Z5 variant.

Thanks. Before asking I followed the guide, but my phone bootloops, and I think it's because I'm not on the latest FW release (I checked only fot OTA updates).
I'll try again after I update to 32.0.A.6.200, and see if it goes well.
Meanwhile, in case there's someone interested - like Mr_Bartek (that actually asked for the Z5) - I've attached an already deodexed CameraCommon.apk from my Z5C.

When you installed Xposed at the first time, first two-three booting will be bootlooop, but it's needed for preparing (for now).
Quick Question: I think the app "Album" (dont know the englisch name), anyway, I mean the official app from Sony where you can view your photos, has to be deoxed as well. Because I cant open it.
I did it. Here's my advices to make Xposed and Sony camera work on Z5C.

That's right, but I want to point out some things from my experience: on 32.0.A.6.152 bootloops keep occurring indefinitely. For me the right combination was updating to 32.0.A.6.200, then installing a different kernel to keep root and TWRP, and then following the instructions in this thread.
Also, if you update your firmware you have to check that you have ADB debug active, ADB shell with root permissions, and busybox correctly installed.
For anyone's convenience here's the files I used with success.
ROM: http://xperiafirmware.com/8-firmware/126-sony-xperia-z5-compact-e5823
Kernel: https://kernel.andro.plus/kitakami_r2.html
I've also attached the deodexed CameraCommon.apk for Z5C, so you can follow AndroPlus' guide from the 6th point.

Ditto, it FCs. Is this issue known? Is it solvable?
