[Q] Nexus 7 mirroring via HTC Media Link

Hello, I'm new to this forum, the Nexus 7 and android. I haven't got a Nexus 7 yet, because obviously one cannot mirror its screen up to now. This would be an important feature for me. The HTC Media Link seems to be the only way to connect it to a monitor so far. On the other hand screen shots are possible as far as I know.
Here is my question:
Has anyone tried to write a program which does the following: Make screen shots at a rate typical for videos, permanently build a video out of these screen shots and send this video via HTC Media Link to a monitor or TV?
I haven't got the knowledge to create such a program myself, but may be some users of this forum have the knowledge and may not yet have thought of such a way to perform mirroring the Nexus 7 screen.
Any answers appreciated! Thanks!
" First the app doesn't mirror your screen -- you're limited to playing content stored on the tablet or on the network via DLNA, which means no YouTube, Netflix or games. Second, the app doesn't handle some common file types -- like AVI, for example." -- source.
As far as I know there is no solution for mirroring that doesn't suck until we have a working Miracast support + dongle, and we're limited to things like DLNA.

Google Nexus 10 is not able to play private Android app.

Hi,
I have Google Nexus 10 and I have rooted it. I have build my own video player app which I am typically using it to play H264 encoded RTP streams.
But I am not able to play the RTP stream on Google Nexus 10 using my video player app. However, I am able to play the same RTP stream using the same APK on other tablets like Google Nexus 9, Samsung Galaxy Tab4, and Microsoft Surface Pro 3.
NOTE:
I am able to play RTSP stream on using my app on Google Nexus 10 but not RTP stream.
But while playing RTP stream using my app, log shows:
udp_resolve_host: No address associated with hostname
LAVF_header: av_open_input_stream() failed
Is there any Firewall / app protection settings that I need to change to be able to use my app?
I have "Unknown sources" option checked under security-->Device administartion settings.
**An update to my above question.
I debug this issue further more and I found out that getnameinfo() API call is failing on Google Nexus 10. So I am using ff_getnameinfo() instead as a workaround for this issue and I am able to play RTP stream now.
Can any expert please let me know why getnameinfo() API call might fail, but only on Google Nexus 10? Possibly a security or Android config issue ?
NOTE:
getaddrinfo() API call does not seem to be failing. Android version on Google Nexus 10: 4.2.2(Jelly Bean).
Thank you,

Nexus Player Cast useless

Hi!
I was going the get me a second Chromecast, but went for the Nexus Player instead.
This was a huge mistake. The cast function is useless. It does not work the same way as the Chromecast.
I have tested HBO Nordic, the picture gets all distorted. Then I tested CanalDigital Go (Norwegian tv distributor), here the audio is out of sync with picture.
Both these apps works great on a Chromecast. The Nexus player is up to date, have tried factory reset
Anyone with similar problems?
Being from Canada i can't test those apps unfortunately. However in my experience, casting to my Nexus Player is MUCH MUCH MUCH better than to my Chromecast. Unfortunately it seems that a lot of people have the same issue as you
I, too, can't speak about the apps OP mentioned. But like koperniczx3, I also find the Nexus Player to work MUCH better than Chromecast.
Exakt same problem with HBO Nordic on Nexus player. Distorted picture every few seconds. I so wish I had bought a second chromecast instead
Works perfekt on chromecast.
Just sideload those apps to the nexus and you wont have to cast.....or load lollirock on it and just install from the playstore

Same issue here, new start-up called "iflix" just available where I live. Able to cast to chromecast, but not available on Nexus Player. Maybe the DRM is why it won't work. Only hope is either dev fix the casting (to nexus player) , or release tv version.
I haven't noticed any major problems with casting to the Nexus Player. The only issue I can think of is that the Chromecast plugin for ES File Explorer doesn't seem to work with the Nexus Player but I've already emailed the app developer about it. Google occasionally releases software updates through Google Play to improve the casting feature on Android TV devices. If you use the Hulu app to cast from your phone or tablet to a Nexus Player with AdAway installed, this actually works surprisingly well because it even skips the video ads.

I am having same issue. Casting work well with google products but other apps it works well with chromecast but when I cast from same app to nexus player it doesnt work at all. Example of apps (CTV GO, Lynda, Plualsight) they all work well with chromecast but not with nexus player cast.

The only time I have noticed casting to work better on a Chromecast is with casting a screen. The apps I use either work the same, or better on the Nexus Player. But sideloading and having the app on the Nexus Player is so much better than casting anyways. But some people are more technically advanced than others. You have to control these apps with a mouse but to get around that, just use Droidmote. This Nexus Player has been the staple in our living room and we love it.
I have had both a chromecast and nexus player. (currently posting this on my nexus player with a logitech k400 plus) I have found that casting works way better for me on my Nexus Player. On my chromecast it would drop off constantly, and video quality would go down so I would stop and restart the app/video to get it good again. I have had zero problems casting to my Nexus Player. I cast from my Nexus 6. Although I don't cast nearly as much as I use to being HBO GO is now fully supported and available on the App Store. That was the main thing I casted. I still cast Fox Now, Watch ABC, NBC, CBS and FX Now. I never have any issues. It sounds like a problem more so related to the apps you are casting.

Nexus Player: Problems With Casting Function

Issue with Chromecast function
I switched from Chromecast to a Nexus Player today because I use my Chromecast (v1) all the time and the media player on my new TV sucks so I wanted to use Kodi and Chromecast in one device. Kodi works very well with the Android M preview but I'm having an issue with the Chromecast function. There is some strange smoothing or interpolation thing going on. For example when I'm streaming something from ShowBox or a local file from my phone via LocalCast or BubbpleUPnP the picture looks sped up. In fact I initial though there was some motion smoothing enabled on my TV. But there was not. The sound is also out of sync.
This only happens on the Nexus Player, the Chromecast (old version) does not have that issue.
Does anyone know why that happens and how to fix it?
Edit: I found a posting with the same issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-player/general/nexus-player-soap-opera-effect-v5-1-t3068551
Apparently it was introduced with Update 5.1 and only happens when apps use the native Android video player. Any idea how to fix that? TVHZ did not fix it btw. I'm pretty sure I'm SOL but I'm asking anyway.

Haayot T95Z Plus android tv box

Yesterday I received my android tv box from AliExpress.
Because I wanted a recent I ordered the Haayat T95Z android TV Box (android 12).
The most of it works fine but I thought every android tv box can be used as a cast receiver. But not this one.
After some research I found out there was no Google cast receiver in the system apps.
So it seems there's no android TV on but just Android.
Preinstalled apps include Airscreen and if I turn this on I can cast to it but only photos and no Videos.
I tried castreceiver but no luck for videos.
I could find and install Google cast receiver from June 2022 but there is no interface for this app and it is not enough to install it to let it act as cast receiver.
Now I wonder if all of these T95Z plus boxes share the same problem and if there are custom roms you can install and those custom roms come with android TV.
Or are there apps to implement google cast receiver with support for videos.
Can anybody help?
