help! my g2 only boots into fastboot - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was trying to install a custom recovery (twrp) by several different methods, with absolutely no luck (but that's another secondary issue at this point) and i screwed something up. Not exactly sure but i think the last thing I did was:
using "Rashr - Flash Tool" i think i went to "flash kernel from storage" then flashed boot.img.
now the phone goes immediately, directly into fastboot even without being connected to computer.
so i tried getting into the stock recovery by holding "volume down" and "power" until lg logo, releasing the reholding until factory reset screen. after choosing yes 2 times i get a
"boot certicification verify" or something message for about a second then it goes to this screen (sorry but apparently i haven't had enough posts on the forums to include clickable links.)

ok, i do have access to fastboot (actually, as soon as i power it on, it immediately is in foastboot mode, even without being connected to computer). i tried using srktool's repair tools via fastboot. it seems like it's working (ie phone shows that it receives command) but that's it. does it take a loooooong time or something?
btw, i can also get into download mode by holding "vol up" while plugging into computer. so, i tried using srktool utilites via download mode and nothing.
also, i just noticed that while connected to computer in download mode, in device manager it shows G2 under "portable devices" with an exclamation point on it.

I haven't taken the back off (yet) but all indications are that it's an AT&T (D800).
What part of my description makes you think that it might be a franken phone?

Did you try connecting the phone in download mode or fastboot to the LG Mobile Support Tool and performing an upgrade recovery?

not sure what you mean by "lg mobile support tool". i googled it and found and installed "lg pc suite". is that the same thing?
nevermind that last question. i found and installed and tried the upgrade recovery tool but for some reason the phone wont go into download mode anymore. when i power it up whith ""vol +" help down, it shows download mode for a second, but then goes right into fastboot mode.

Is it recognized by the program in fastboot mode?
Here's the program I was referring to: http://www.lg.com/ca_en/support-mobile/lg-LGD803
Even though the program says it is for the 803, I used it to recover my international d802.

Thanks for the reply! But when I have phone connected to USB in fastboot, it shows up in device manager as "android device > USB modem phone port". Is that method the right fix for my situation?

ok, so likei said my phone is indeed in fastboot mode, connected to computer via usb (shows up in device manager as "android device > USB modem phone port". using srktool, i can send commands to the phone (command shows up on phone but thats it.....doesnt matter what command, it just sticks there until i unplug the phone then srktool shows the operation competed and phone shows
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwQdFsCQ9KZVSVg3OTZLcXV0N0E/view?usp=sharing
but none of operations actually complete on the phone.

flash stock ROM via download mode or flash custom ROM via twrp.
the first choice (stock ROM) is better

thanks for the responses!!
before i saw your reply, i flashed the stock .tot firmware and now i have my phone back.
but, before all this started, it was lollipop(5.0.2) and now it's Jellybean(4.2.2). i bought phone on ebay, so im assuming that it got lollipop via an ota update. so now i'm looking into flashing it back to lollipop. what's the easiest method to install stock lollipop?

Removing USB connection while flashing

Hi all,
I have a serious problem with my G2 which I could not solve: I used the new LG Flash Tool 2014 with stock KDZ file, everything was going just fine till I received an error message that LG server is not available, I disconnected the USB cable by mistake from my G2 and afterward I saw that it was in the middle of flashing process (12% was completed). I turned it off and tried to reach download mode again and nothing!, I'm receiving the "LG" logo and nothing- the screen goes black (it is still on).
I tried also to connect my phone to the computer- I received a list of 13 "new" local disks "H" to "T", only "H" disk is available and it's showing "image" folder with list of files.
I cannot reach "download mode", nothing is working!
I hope this is not the end for my G2..
please help me
Thank you so much!
If you could receive all those hard disks then you could maybe fix it with linux/ubuntu if you have it. Search for guides to cOpy the neccesary stuff bacK like the bootloader. I can't really help you atm as i am too sleepy.

Thank you for your reply. I found this on the sticky threads: "[FIX] NO Recovery mode, No download mode, after OTA on rooted LG G2".
I installed ubuntu and followed the instructions. when I type the following: "gdisk -l /dev/sde" I receive an error message:
"GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.5.1
NOTE: Write test failed with error number 13. It will be impossible to save
changes to this disk's partition table!
Problem opening /dev/sde for reading! Error is 13
You must run this program as root or use sudo!"
My device is not rooted, is this the problem?
Please help me!!
Thanks
@NNCa It says you need to run the program as root on ubuntu.
Just use sudo in front of the commands.
You need to type once your password to use sudo, you can't see the password if you enter it for safety I guess but just click enter after you typed ykur password.

Hi,
I powered off my phone by pressing volume down + power for a while ("LG" logo blinked once and phone was fully powered off).
I pushed volume down + power till I saw the LG logo, released it, and pushed again- and finally I reached the Factory Hard Reset screen. I have pushed 3 times the power, and I have got "Factory reset processing..." and nothing is appeared, even when I'm pushing several times on power again.
I guess this is the end of my G2 :crying:
Thank you all for your support, this is an excellent forum!:good::good:

Nope it isn't the end try to install the recovery again or try to push the custom twrp recovery again to the right partition! Dont give up that fast when i hear your things then its still fixable! you already got the factory reset processing so try to Push the Recovery again and search for an guide about recovery maybe Then you would probably get your device fixed.
Just read my things about simplicity so think easy and you can fix it. AND STAY POSITIVE You will repair your phone today :good:

Hi, sorry to say but you have unfortunately completely hardbricked your device. It happened to me too however I was able to get it replaced under warranty at no extra cost.
What happened was that when your phone was still detected by linux, you had a chance to recover by flashing the correct partitions to gain access to download mode and from there, flash a KDZ to go back to complete stock. However, the files you used were probably incompatible with your variant which has now corrupted your bootloader sequence. I suggest you read this reply by fizzy177 as well as the rest of the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51522304&postcount=118
So right now, you cannot do anything as you have already found out, no computer will recognise that your phone is plugged in. Your phone fails to boot when you try enter the download mode and it just freezes on the splash screen which looks like this: http://www.lg-phones.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/image2.png
What's meant to happen is your phone should load past that initial splash screen into this http://www.androiddunya.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/LG-G2-DownloadMode.jpg which accepts KDZ flashing and warns the device has been rooted.
So it's a blessing that your phone cannot boot as LG cannot find out you have voided warranty and you will be able to get a replacement free of charge.

Hello
From past 2 weeks i am wondering on internet for a solution . Hours and hours of surfing and articles but still
Hope some one solve this issue.
Okay. First i m using LG G2 F320 K update to lollipop . Non rooted. It was working fine . I can transfer files in MTP .
But about a month ago i get an update for my phone . And after some days i need to transfer some files to my phone , i wonder when i connected my phone to computer nothing happened . No notification on mobile for changing PTP MTP option . Also nothing happened in Computer device manager..
From that day i am unable to connect my phone with windows 10. It always charging mobile.
I uninstalled all drivers in device manager and installed from LG website. I updates windows N and NK MTP update from windows for windows 10.
I changed different data cables and different computers and different ports . All stuff i can do. Still no luck.
When ever i plug USB data cable it always put my Mobile on Charging . No notification on Mobile. Also i go in setting > storage> and there is no option in upper right corner to select USB PC connection .
I am in developer mode and debugging mode is on also. Also USB tethering option is Disabled .
Kindly some one help me regarding this.
LG G2 F320K updated to stock Koren lollipop 5.0.1 . Non root.( i updated lollipop in April 2015)
Issue i am facing is no notification for Charging/ MTP/PTP Usb Debugging on mobile notice bar when i attach my phone using USB cord with computer. Also in computer device manager nothing happen. Even i checked on windows 10 , 8.1, 8, 7 .
I remember it was working like charm 4 weeks before I can change MTP PTP or Charge only mode by selecting notification when i attach it to my laptop. I can transfer files can use LG PC suit .
Then i received an software update like 40 mb and i updated my mobile. That i remembered.
After that 2 weeks before i need to transfer some books from laptop to my mobile. When i plugged my device there no notification to select MTP mode . Also there is nothing happened in my windows 10. I looked in task manager. No yellow icon in computer task manager for driver thing.
Laptop is just silent and mobile is just on charging .
Then i go to setting in LG and looked for USB PC connection settings. I wonder there is nothing . Settings > storage > 3 dot in upper right corner.. it suppose to be there . But here is no 3 dot in storage. Then i looked into share and networks in android setting and i found that USB tethering. But its faded mean it is disabled and i am unable to use this feature also.
I tried on different computers different cables , original, but nothing. Always when i plug usb mobile went on charging and in all computers nothing happen in device manager.
USB debugging is on.. I factory reset device 2 times. but useless. Also i uninstall all drivers from my laptop and then reinstall drivers from LG website also i tried google drivers , ABD, different ports. Nothing nothing happen.
Also now if i try put mobile on download mode by turning device off and then push + vol button and then put cord in mobile . No download mode also it went on charging. Well charging from laptop or from charger is okay.
Hope i explain all.

[Q] L01F no download mode, no usb reading.

Hello. Please help me. I have a Japanese version of G2 (L-01F - DoCoMo) and i tried to flash an european version of kitkat because i couldn't update in OTA. Now the phone is bricked, it is bootlooping, the Download Mode doesn't work, it shows a few of blue dots and it stays there (the phone can't be recognized on PC using the USB cable). I can enter the Recovery Mode (the grey screen with LG logo) where the phone can be read by PC and using ADB tool is shown as "recovery". I can't use fastboot.exe because the device is not being recognized. What can i do? Thank you very much.

Actually i'm trying to repair it since October 2014. No-one knows the solution. I went to 3 different GSM Services and they don't know what to do...
So...when i'm trying to put it in download mode it stays like this and the PC doesn't recognize it.
The only way to connect the phone to the computer is to put it in recovery mode (Backup & Restore) by holding Volume Up and Power Button at the same time with the phone turned off. It should appear something like this. The PC recognizes the phone but only in ADB. Look.
The third possible screen, which also is useless is this by typing in the CMD the following: "adb reboot recovery" (click). Here, the PC doesn't recognize the phone too.
Fastboot doesn't work.
And that's my problem. I don't know what to do.

Phone boots normally but can't enter Fastboot, no recovery.

Hi guys, I'm having a weird problem with my zenfone 5 (a501cg). I have searched a lot but still can't find out a proper solution So I post it here and try to provide as much information as possible so hopefully developers at xda can help me.
My phone is rooted and I'm currently using modded rom called "bazzrom pinaslang" in the forum. Recently I want to use another rom so I decide to use adb sideload again.
However, the problem occurs: using adb sideload only show "error" message". BUT Adb devices show the phone.
Then I decide to use adb reboot fastboot to enter fastboot. But the phone only show a usb icon, and using "fastboot devices" doesn't show the device anymore.
I try other way by enter recovery mode "adb reboot recovery". The phone show resting android with "no command" message. I also try hold power and press down volumn after that but nothing happend. I try anything with that "power" + "volumn" combo but nothing happend (or it just shutdowns the phone).
Also, using "power" + "up volumn" to enter Droid boot doesn't work.
Driver is install. In device manager it shows "Android composite adb interface".
The only good news is my phone still boots normally and I can use it. Please help me get back my fastboot so I can upgrade my phone to Lollipop and other modded ROM.
Thank you so much !!!!

Hi dgadelha,
I have seen your link before my post, but I still wonder because the "last resort" in the link is used for "bricked" phone or the one that doesn't start up or stuck in somewhere. My phone can still boot and use quite normal : ( except one thing that my sd card always unmounted in this Pinaslang modded rom.

UPDATE I decide to try xFSTK but my computer still recognizes the device as "adb..." . if I turn off developer mode it becomes "portable device" in Window Device Manager.
The xFSTK can't recognize any Cloverfieldplus. (it shows "CLOVERFIELDPLUS...: 0")

Hi,
Because the last resort will use a hardware function (xFSTK way) to update your dnx, ifwi and fastboot images. This way you can restore your fastboot.
Thanks.

Hi techgeard,
Looks like it's a driver timeout.
Which OS are you using? I see they used Windows 7 or before on the tests.
Also you should try getting xFSTK developers (on SourceForge) to help about this issue.
Thanks.

[HELP] LG Spirit H440N cannot access to Download mode

Hi everyone, i have a big problem. Today i was trying to help a firend of mine by unlocking his bootloader on this phone but i got a strange message when i was trying to boot in Download mode. The message was:
"fastboot init( )
loading keystore failed status 5 usb init ept @ 0x8f20700
udc_start( )
fastboot: processing commands"
Basically it doesn't allowed me to enter in Download mode, so no reverting to v10f software, no pushing aboot, no twrp and no Marshmallow zip. Nothing at all, i could do nothing. In the following lines i will tell you what i did and tried:
1) Using different PC usb ports, no way to make it work
2) Using different cables, no way to make it work
3) Trying to boot in Download mode by removing battery and try without it, desperate, obviously no way to make it work
I spent two hours trying to find a way to make it work but i failed miserably...so i'm here hoping someone better than me can help me.
NOTES:
The phone was on original Lollipop firmware v10e (Italy) but rooted.
Basically i did nothing, just tried to put it in download mode (Vol - and plug usb in), tried also other ways but nothing showed up
When the phone is connected to pc (when it's on) it charges only, don't show the option to use mtp so... i think adb won't work
Hope it can help and hope you can help! XD
I had same error, cause of flashing the wron zip basically i needed to get into repair mode and use adb while its trying to repair use adb commands to reboot to recovery

Can you give more details? How can I access that repair mode and how to use adb commands on it? I have a bricked board that I want to put back on use.

Hi, i tried vol + but the phone just boots... i will try again and let you know in the evening
When device is off hold Vol- and power key until LG logo appear, then release the keys and hold them again, its really hard to time it correctly, but if you do you will get a factory reset option, on that screen you navigate using Vol+ and - buttons and power button is ok

Thank you, after the factory reset the combination Vol+ and USB worked (after a few try) and i was able to boot in Download mode, then i flashev v10f, rooted and pushed modified aboot, flashed twrp 1.1.0 with flashify (twrp official app failed many times) and finally installed v20b and supersu. Everything works as expected =)

Do you have twrp installed on your phone ? If, yes try to boot into it.
I have a similar problem with my LG Spirit. When it tries to boot, it shows an error message: Boot Verification Fail, DIFFERENT_HASH... After that it just restarts endlessly... I can't enter download mode, because the computer doesn't recognize it when I plug it in via usb cable... The only thing I can do is to get to the hard reset screen, but that is useless because it just restarts and shows the same error mentioned above... I'm out of ideas, the only thing that comes to my mind is to try and see if Ubuntu recognizes it, but then again, there's no LG Flash Tool made for Linux, or is there?
Sorry for mistakes, english is not my native language.

Thank's for your reply. I did just that, but without success... I also tried to do what MadjijaHacker wrote, but I can't get it right. I mean, I can enter in hard reset, but can't get to download mode. It seems that my phone is dead...

Bricked Chinese version, only ADB sideload is working. Appreciate any help.

Hi,
Messed up badly Furious that ZTE made the phone incompatible with Daydream, decided to root the device. Tried various ROMs, but could never get the modem to work in the UK. Eventually tried to reinstall Chinese stock ROM and, to my surprise, the modem still didn't work. Attempted to restore the modem files from TWRP backup and bricked the phone completely. Can only boot into Chinese recovery where only ADB sideload enables the phone to be seen by Windows as Android ADB Interface. EDL mode cannot be seen and Axon7toolkit cannot see the phone even in ADB sideload mode. Attempts to update software result in this message: Package expects build fingerprint of ZTE/P996A03/ailsa_ii:6.0.1/MMB29M/20161027.021856:user/release-keys or ZTE/P996A03/ailsa_ii:7.1.1/NMF26F/20170224.135053:user/release-keys ; this device has ZTE/P996A03/ailsa_ii:7.1.1/NMF26V/20170912.013327:user/release-keys. Most likely, updates won't work anyway, because when the phone was running, updates resulted in a mismatch. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

You messed up real bad. I assume you forgot to flash the modem files when you flashed the custom ROMs?
EDL mode cannot be seen? What do you mean by that? Keep the Device Manager open, phone disconnected; then hold both volume buttons, wait 5 seconds, connect the USB cable while you are holding them, and wait 3 seconds more before releasing them. The device manager should refresh.
The phone should appear under Ports (COM & LPT) or under USB devices as QUSB_BULK. If it is under USB devices you have to right click on it, Uninstall -> Delete driver software. After that hold all 3 buttons for a long time (both volume buttons and power) and device manager should refresh itself. It should install the Qualcomm driver then. If the driver is ZTE handset diagnostic interface, you'll have to disassemble the phone

Thanks. The phone is listed as ZTE Handset Diagnostic Interface(DFU) (COM10) in Ports. It is listed as Unknown USB Device in USB Controllers and following the procedure you described doesn't install the Qualcomm driver. I take it, then, that an engineer would have to disassemble the phone.

Or you. Follow the 4th category brick repair manual. I'm just rewriting it but it'll take time
Where are you getting adb sideload from?

Well, with your help I may snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. I'll ask one of the local engineers to dismantle the phone according to your guide and we'll see what we can do. The adb sideload screen is in this photo.
Thanks again.

You still have one other option though. May save you.
Do you have an SD card? If not, get at least a 4 GB one (or one with 3gb free), download an official A2017 update package, unzip it and put the update.zip in the sd card. (If you get a bunch of folders instead of a file called update.zip just take the original zip and put it in the SD).
after that, put it in the sd card and select the option that says 'sd'.
It may work. Right now it's your best shot at not taking it apart

That's forbidden. When I've tried to update from the SD card using that option, I get a message saying I don't have permission to update from the SD card. I will, however, try again because you've mentioned some things that are slight variations on what I've done before.

Yeah, it's possible. But I have one more idea. Can you try one other thing?
There's a way to get to EDL if you have only DFU mode, which is by getting adb (not adb sideload, just normal adb) and issuing "adb reboot edl". If you can get adb (i think you may have adb from the main recovery screen) then you can get to EDL and flash stuff with MiFlash. Try to issue 'adb reboot edl' when you are on the main screen of the recovery mode.
The other way, which might work on your state, is turning the phone off and holding volume down + power. It might open FTM mode (it's a white rectangle in the middle of the screen with the words FTM written on it, can't miss it). If you get there just issue 'adb reboot edl' and flash with MiFlash

Thanks, but I've already tried it. The phone only communicates with the computer in adb sideload mode, so trying adb reboot edl results in an "error:closed" message. If not in sideload mode, adb cannot even register a device. Occasionally, I've seen a small Linux penguin in the middle of the screen and today it hung on the MiFavor logo for some time. If those are significant, I don't know how to get them back. The ZTE engineers have been very thorough. It's frustratiing because the adb sideload thing might work with the right software package, and I can clear the cache and wipe the system; but then I'm back to square one. Your suggestion about dismantling the phone sounds like the most promising path forward and I will have a go tomorrow.

So you get the 5 seconds screen? Have you tried to enter fastboot?
If I'm right, you get the Linux penguin when you hit the power button when you are on the 5 seconds screen (the 'Your device can't be checked for corruption' screen). If it appears, use a volume button to get to the options, select 'Bootloader' and try to enter Bootloader mode. It should have fastboot, being an A2017.
If you get to fastboot you can issue 'fastboot boot twrp.img' and your phone will boot into TWRP. Take Lineage, the Universal Bootloader and the A2017 modem and flash them, then format data, and you'll be good to go.

I do indeed get the 5 seconds screen, but the reason I didn't mention it is that it does nothing from what I can see. The phone "boots" after five seconds, but if I press the volume buttons to enter options, Bootloader is not one of them. The Fastboot option just makes the phone reboot and the Recovery option sends me to the screen in the photo upthread. Like I say, they've been very thorough.

Curioser and curioser. I went through the steps to short circuit the test point on the motherboard and MiFlash successfully flashed the Unbrick ROM which you advised. Obviously, the Qualcomm drivers were recognised e.t.c. The state of the phone now is that it is caught in a boot loop. It shows the ZTE screen and the 5-second screen. Going into recovery on the 5-second screen causes the ZTE logo to appear again, then the battery icon keeps showing, switching off and showing again. The Fastboot mode on the 5-second screen now takes me to the Fastboot screen, but entering recovery causes the same battery loop. Did I make a mistake reassembling the phone perhaps? Should I try to flash a different ROM from the test point?

So now you have fastboot? Put the TWRP-3.2.1-0.img on the adb folder, then open CMD, navigate to that folder, write 'fastboot boot TW" and press Tab, the filename should appear, if it does hit Enter
If you get to TWRP don't turn the phone off, and flash the universal bootloader, Lineage, the A2017 modem, and Magisk 15.2

Sorry, I didn't make that clear. The 5-second screen directs me to Fastboot, but there are only four options there: Start (doesn't work, obviously), Restart Bootloader (brings you back to the same place), Shut down and Recovery (goes to battery icon). Don't know what went wrong--maybe a connection got damaged when the phone was dismantled--but I discover I can't repeat the short circuiting thing and, even though the phone is seen on the system as Qualcomm 90.., MiFlash cannot flash anything different. I despair. I'll send the phone for recycling. Making the Axon 7 incompatible with Daydream was the last straw. I very much appreciate your help just the same.

No, when you are on the screen with the 4 options you have Fastboot. That is the bootloader mode. Get there and issue 'fastboot devices' and you'll see that you got fastboot from there.
Don't repeat the 4th category manual, just turn the phone off and hold volume up and down, then connect the USB. If it appears as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 you're in EDL.
What's the name of the package that you flashed?

You star! I've followed your advice and now it is exactly the phone I was looking for. (I had made a mistake and forgotten to reconnect something in the internals, but the ROM worked just fine once that was sorted and I've flashed all the things you recommended.) Your name will be sung down the ages in my household, Choose an username. Many thanks
