I have a usb Logitech F310 controller and just ordered a usb otg adapter. Do I need to root my tablet in order for the controller to be recognized?

Yes, you can connect a controller via usb OTG cable/adapter without root. I connect my "Enter E-GPV gamepad" using OTG cable and "PNY OTG adapter". But unfortunately my gamepad's keys are not getting mapped correctly, so I am unable to play any game. I think you have a PS3 controller, so it will work properly.
