share your Ampere/ "charging test" results (investigating lollipop charging issue)
I created this tread so people can share their Ampere/ "charging test" results (with service mode) so we can analyze the data and get a better understanding the charging patterns.
To access to "charging test" in service menu (in d800 dial 3845#*800# and select "charging test") (replace 800 with your model if you have a different G2 variant)
With stock 1.8A charger with stock cable I'm getting only like 300mA to 500mA (cloudy 3.3, stock kernel).. getting the same kind of results if I use the tab2 2A charter too.. I got the same kind results with stock 5.0.1, stock Kitkat 4.4.2 with dorimanx kernel, Dirty Deeds roms. With this rate phone could take up to more than 3hrs to charge.

but with my Palm 1A charger I'm getting like 900mA to 1100mA most of the times.
Can you guys please share your results too ? so we can get a better understanding what's going on here. you are more than welcome share the results of your other android devices too. please mention the OS, kernel, charger, cable that you are using when sharing your Ampere or "charging test" results.

Battery percentages varies time to time, depends on device n its provided charger. When Battery is near empty, it charges at higher rate and provided charger supplies current at higher rating.
For example; Battery below 15% suppose to charge 1600mA(Fast Charge), it does produce heat. Once it reaches to certain percentage like 50-60% it will gradually decrease from 1200mA, after it crosses 75% may go down a bit more like 700mA and once it reaches at 90% it will be set as around 350-400mA.
If you could notice, Initially device Battery temp. rises and gradually it decrease, because lower the supplying rate better for Battery as well as SoC.
Please re-upload attachments at around these level ~15% ~40% ~75% ~95%

I never got the 1600mA rate.. even when the battery percentage below 15%... here are some screenshots (with the stock 1.8A charger and stock cable)

Using Samsung Note 2 charger (2A), CloudyG2 3.3, stock Cloudy kernel.
Have you tried changing cables? Low quality cables can often impede charging speed.

Currenty I only have stock cable and stock moto g cable. I can't see much different results with those cables atm...
Btw are you getting the same results with the stock charger and cable?

I don't have the stock charger since I got the Japanese version of the G2, which doesn't come with any charger. I've tried it with another 2A charger of mine (used to charge my pocket WiFi) and it returns the same results AFAIK. The only time it charges slowly is when I connect it to a PC, and when I use an old 700mA charger from an old ZTE smartphone.

Can you guys share more results please.? It will only take few minutes.

no pic but today i tested mine. it didnt came with charger so i bought one from amazon. my brother gave me a lg charger rated at 1.2a. so i only got a usb cable wich i think it isnt the stock cable.. the cell was brand new but no charger .. so i got me this supposely lg 1.8 charger.. with usb cable tha came with 1.8a charger i get max 320 it goes up and down. with the usb tha came on the box of cell i get 1100. with a motorola usb i get same 1200.
with the 1.2 charger i get 900 1000. so i think the usb have something to do.. and i also noticed that at times at 900 unlpugging and plugging the charger it changes to higher voltages .. that also happened to my older cell phone i had the s2.. unplugging and replugging gave me more power on same usb cable..

Try dorimanx kernel and enable fast charge .......in normal i got 1600~1800 with 2A charger

LG G2 D802 vs. Ampere (App) compatibility?
LG G2 D802 - Android 5.0.2 - partially working, I think...:
During the use (discharge) of the device, the app always shows -30mA.
No matter the load, since turning on wifi, 4G, flashlight and anything....
During the device charge the value changes, and is sensitive to the load: wifi, 4G, flashlight... It shows reasonable values (200-400 mA), for me.
Q1) May be LG G2 D802 one of those devices without the battery drained current measurement circuit? (If so the discharge current may shows a fake value...)
Q2) Is there someone that already experienced this issue with D802?

Wireless charging issues?

I purchased a charger from a local company here in Australia. We really don't have much option over here as most companies won't ship to here. They tested them out and they worked (I trust the company as I know one of the owners).
Problem is that it mostly only charges to around 88% and peaked out here and stays attempting to charge, but not charging just getting hotter and hotter. So far max was 58deg I think. It has charged to 100% twice only, and I have had them for 2 weeks. These 2 times it perfectly charged to 100,stopped charging and cooled down.. Perfect.
A few others have had issues as well but the suppliers say it works fine for them.
Has anyone had any issues at all like this using wireless charging? We are really trying to get to the bottom of this and trying to figure out if it's a phone issue or a charger issue.
I have tried it with any and all stock and custom roms, both totally clean and with apps installed.
I have attached my battery graphs here in case that helps solve the problem.

We noticed there was quite a few bad remarks about the lg one on Amazon so thought I would ask here.
So, anyone else have issues with inconsistent wireless charging of nexus 4?

I'm having the same issues as well with this Wireless Charger I purchased off eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221166419716
For the first 2 weeks it was charging without issue. Charged the phone up to 98/99% and then switched on and off to maintain that charge, and the phone did not get very hot.
For the past few days it has only been able to charge up to 90% and will not go any higher, but the phone gets very hot and stays like that (45C). Plugging the phone into a USB charger gets it up to 100% so it can't be that the battery maximum has been reached.
Would be interested to know what type of Qi Charger you have to see if it's a problem with a certain 'type'.
Mine isn't that one. It's no brand at all. The guys who imported them tell me they tested some, including that you bought and they say that one was intermittent.
I recently purchased http://www.fasttech.com/products/1154/10001946/1142301 and this works perfectly so far... But then it's only been a couple days...
I am putting it down to a hardware revision 10 issue where it is not perfectly qi compliant. The newer ones are supposedly rev 12 which are qi compliant.... And hopefully they work fine with it so I can sell them to my friends who all bought an n4 today (5 at work in a smallish Xray dept)...

Is this the hardware revision on the phone, or do you mean the rev of the charging device?
As mine evidenced, even if it works perfectly for a while, it could still not be an indication that the qi charging will keep working.
I'll probably just stick with my one until the 'official' one is released. Was a little worried that the temperature staying around 45C for extended periods of time could have a negative effect on the battery or phone components however.
Kind of a necro post but my N4 on the official charger will top out at 88% as well sometimes, then flap between charging and discharging like the phone thinks its full and is trickle charging. If I plug it in and get it to 90%, then go back to the orb, it goes to 100% just fine.

After a few months, mine would do the same thing. For some reason the "efficiency" of the N4 charging circuit (inside the phone) became somehow worse.
The DT-900 uses a TI bq500410A chip for control of the charging. If it detects too low of efficiency it will cut off. Luckily it's possible to modify this threshold. By removing the resistor connected to pin 43 of the TI chip it allows it to charge regardless of efficiency. It still has temperature protection so I don't think there is any danger.

Just to add some information to this thread, I have the new Google Wireless Charger and it does the same thing. It charges to 80% and then just plateaus there, getting quite warm, but not hot, to the touch. Strange.

Z3C Battery Charging Thread

I' hoping this is the right section to post this in.
I don't have my Z3C yet, but I've been searching for information on charging speed, charging current etc. - and there is barely anything to be found. What seems to be consent: A full charge (0-100%) takes about three hours. But then, some people say an almost full charge (0-90%) takes much less, as charging current is greatly reduced for the last 10% to reduce stress on the battery. Sony itself also claims that a small charge (something like 0-10%) should be quite fast as well.
Then there's some speculation about QuickCharge 2.0 being used or not used, that you could use a Motorola 2.0A charger to charge it faster than with the provided 1.5A Sony charger etc., which also brings up the question which resistor values on the D+ and D- wires are necessary to toggle different charging currents. (Or I might be stupid and there's a standard for that by now, which is the same for all Qualcomm devices.)
To cut it short: I'd request those who have a Z3C to post some comments about their charging times, and at best even their charging currents. I used an app called BatteryMonitor on my Desire HD, I'm sure there's others around now that give the same information. If someone could try out different chargers and record charging current over time, maybe even with a pretty graph, it'd surely help all future discussions about chargers, docks, modifications, DIY charging issues etc.
[EDIT] I've created a similar thread over at the Z3 forums, as many things (such as resistor values and charging tactics) should be similar.
With the 1.5A charger it's almost the same speed as other flagships: about 1% per minute or so.

Because it's more difficult for me to get the Moto Turbo Charger from where I live, I ordered another quick charger on the list and will see how it works.

Sorry for the delay. It's obvious that QC 2.0 works only when battery is really low. Not sure it's Sony's control thru hardware, or kernel, or charger's control.

Is this the charger that came with the phone, USB Type-C on both ends?
What was your battery percentage when this measurement was taken?
What were you doing on the phone at the time of the measurement?
I assume from your post that question one is a yes. I ask question two because as your battery gets close to full (and in the case of most lithium battery charging) the amperage will lower to finish topping it off. Question three is important because I believe the Ampere app shows the net total amperage flow. Meaning that (a mA in) - (b mA being used) = (c mA total flow). So if you have brightness to max, music playing, etc. then the total mA flow will be lower.

Yeah am using the same charger usb c to usb
And i checked it on all percentages it ws same it never exceeded 1500 and sometimes it showed me 600 also
I was not doing anything at that time
Just charging my phone what should i do now?
Hmm... I've gotten weird readings from Ampere sometimes. Give the Current Monitor app a try perhaps.

Could be the charger being defective, hard to say. Or the USB C port. Check if there is lint build up in the port.

It's ****ing weird. Never had these sort of issues using the QuickCharge 2.0/3.0 and micro-B connectors.
I cleaned out the port with isopropyl alcohol and compressed air. I've got some 3rd party chargers that register as "charging rapidly" but have yet to see current even close to 3A. Using the same cables, the OEM charger is still stuck on just "charging".
I can't seem to really push past 1.3A regardless of battery state, charger used, or cable.
By comparison, this is what it looks like with 3A charging. The bulk charge rate is near 80% per hour.

Upgraded to nougat and now phone is no longer fast charging.

I'm only getting a Max of 1500mah power using the ampere app, same power I get as with a standard charger. I'm using the official Huawei 9v2a charger. Any ideas?

Fast charging is not about mAh (this is capacity and should be 4.000mAh) but about voltage. Normal charging is at 5V with about 1.500mA at start, decreasing at he end. Fast charging is at 10V at 1.500mA at start, decreasing at he end. So, same current but double voltage thus charging 2x faster.
For fast charging, you need a special charger, nothing to do with nougat.

You probably mean 1500 milliamps. If the charger is a 2amp charger 2000ma it will charge quicker than a 1500ma charger. I am not an expert on Huawei charging circuit but most new circuits will draw as much as they are set to draw during the charging process without damaging the phone...they use current limiting. If you charge with a standard USB charger many of these are only 500ma... and charging is slow...so check your charger.
I have Nougat on my Mate 8 and it indicates 'Fast Charging' when plugged into the 5 v 2 amp charger which comes with it. You can use a higher amp charger like 3 amps and see if it indicated fast charging... it will not damage your phone unless the phone is faulty.
The method of fast charging with a higher voltage to start is very similar to higher amps... the internal phone charge circuit will regulate the incoming voltage and maximum current it can draw to effect a fast charge.

Huawei Mate 8 is limited to 1.500mA. With fast charging at 10V this is equivalent of 3A at 5V. More would damage the battery. In fact, if you have the time, it is better to use a normal charger at 5V.

My Mate 8 came with a 5V 2amp charger from Huawei... . It clearly says "Fast Charging" when I plug it in... and it charges faster than all other phones I have had. Efficient charging of a battery depends on the wattage of the charger... and the circuit in the phone regulates the wattage, by current limiting, based on the changing battery voltage, as the battery is charged, and the phone hardware to prevent damage to the phone circuit...not the battery...most batteries can take a lot more than the phone circuit which is micro sized surface mounted components which cannot handle high currents. So if the circuit is designed correctly, which I have no reason to believe it is not... then the circuit will control the wattage no matter what charger you hook it up to provided the voltage is 5V.
Fast charging, High voltage chargers like 9V is regulated by the phone circuit to effect the maximum wattage the phone is capable of handling. Batteries get damaged by high voltage and Lithium batteries are very sensitive to voltages above around 4.3V

Same here, about double voltage (mine is 9.8V), same current as with 5V. Quick charge is 2x faster.

Charging speed

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
From 8% to 100% mine takes an hour more or less
Now this is interesting.
I am using usb power meter alongside the supplied charger and cable in the box and I found that even after the phone showed 100% charge it continued to draw current (~300mAh) for another 20 minutes until stopped entirely.
So my total charge time from 0-100% was 2 hours and 44 minutes.
Also for the first ~60% charge the phone draw the full 1.55 amperes and after that gradually dropped down to 0.50 amperes.
While the charger runs little bit hot the phone was cold the entire time.
2 hours to charge from 15% to 42 %

This is way too much. You have probably got defective charger/cable.
But! If you are trying to charge it from a pc then is normal as regular usb ports supply only 0.5A instead of the 1.55A from the original charger.

Nowadays chargers are basic inverters with few more stuff.
They have very few components inside but sometimes, usually after hard hitting/dropping on hard surfaces the soldering can get damaged with varying consequence between simply stopping working to working abnormally as lowering voltage, current, overloading and many other things.
For example I had a strange case with fully working charger with healthy components and solder joints but was working on random intervals. It was caused by solder whiskers touching nearby naked track and causing shorts. If it was cheaper charger it would blow, but in this one the overvolt protection was able to save it.
And this is why you can just buy usb power tester like this one

Our phone does not have fast charge. As such it will not charge faster no matter how powerful charger and cable you can equip it with. For example I have one with 2x2.4 Amperes supporting QC charger mods and etc. - it will draw only up to 1.55 Amperes within 5 Volts range.
The normal USB 2.0 port can supply with max 0.5 Amperes, USB 3.0 within the basic implementation can supply under 1 Ampere.
In simple language this means with usb 2 it would take up to 8 hours to charge from 0 to 100%, with usb 3 it would take about 4 hours and half from 0 to 100% battery.
Of course depending on the manufacturers you can find usb 3 and 3.1 ports that are able to supply way more current, even values like 3 Amperes and higher.
This is why the best way to charge your phone is to use the supplied charger. The cable is also very important because of the current depending on the used wire gauge.
With cheap cable (using thin wires) you would not only be unable to use the available current, you can find yourself in the middle of fire.
But there is a big problem, the price sometimes doesn`t represent the needed quality.
Notice I`m not talking about durability. I can show you cables strong enough to endure 10 kilograms but with so thin wires that can`t carry over 0,5A trough them.
Put your trust only on products that are widely commented and tested by the buyers.
Now, I have tested the cable supplied with the phone. Although it easily handles the 1.55A current used by the phone if you put over 2A it will get really, really warm. This means the wires are big enough but are not expected to handle high current. In simple words don`t use this cable for other things than charging this phone, just to be safe.

TLDR;
If you don`t have the necessary skills don`t try to repair it. Any repair error can easily make it burst in flames. Better try with another charger but make sure it can get you at least 1.5A otherwise it would take really long time to charge.

yes, I recommend oppo charger. In just 2hrs the batt will be full.
Is there a way to charge faster? In my case I can charge my phone maximally at 5.19V / 1.42A. Charging from 0% to 100% phone with such parameters takes more than 3 hours, because amperage is adaptive.
