Battery overnight - Galaxy S6 Edge+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

7% of battery overnight.
Wifi, 3G, google now and side clock on.
Is this normal?
Standby Cell=2% (5h on time)
Android OS =1% (13m cpu)
Standby Device = 1% (4m cpu, 28m active)

I too loose between 5-7% overnight (8 Hours). Although the battery life of Edge+ is pretty good while in use, I have noticed that standby of the device isn't as impressive as earlier Note variants (Yes, I'm comparing with Note series).
WiFi - ON
Auto Sync - ON
2-3 Apps with Notification ON
Samsung Pay on Screen Off - ON

Your CPU seems to be idle 95% of the time! I never checked mine but yes, mine drops that much too! I don't think that's a rare case with this phone!

Ok so it is good right?
Then why it drains so much overnight?

Depinding on my signal strenght ,i saw -10% overnight ,ok maybe i slept like 10 hrs insted of 7-8 but still . Battery info said that the juice went to Cell signal standby or something like that.

yep, same here... so maybe it depends on the strength and quality of cell signal..
will test in the next days...
I am sure it cannot be any samsung app/service as I have disable 200 of them with package disabler pro
also, location/3g/wifi/sync/googlenow always on is the same setup I had on OnePlus One, that was using barely .5% per hour
it also true that on the OnePlusOne I could also turn off the notification light during night, while with this I cannot so it could happen that the light keeps on flashing for 5 hours, draining battery
also, I have edge clock on at night, still some drining...

I thought the deep sleep or idle drain was caused by lollipop, no? I lose over 10% from a 7hr sleep, even if I turn the WiFi off. WiFi eats up a lot of my battery for some reason, and I know my connection was good too.

It's been 5 nights and I confirm it drains 1% per hour.

This is my usage really bad...
8% in 6h
Night clock on
Wi-Fi on
4G on
Sync on
I received 5 emails so notification light has been blinking for almost 5h
Don't understand, cos stats are not that bad...

Think yourself lucky. I'm losing 50% overnight.
Battery life impressive during the day though

I solved my problem: night watch...
With night watch on I lose 1% per hour at night, with night watch off I lose 2% in 6h

I was consistently losing 2%-3% per hour overnight. But once I found an overactive app (Plume) and changed from instant notifications to 30 minute polling, my battery life has drastically improved. I've also used Package Disabler to disable bloatware on my device.
The past couple days my battery has been around 97% - 98% when I wake up in the morning.

[POLL] Average battery drain % per hour while idle

Just like the title says, I would like to know what is the average battery drain that you guys are getting on your S6 and S6E devices while leaving it on idle. My device is SM-920I and the battery drains about 0.7% on WiFi and 1.5% on 4G per hour. I understand that the mileage will vary depending on how many apps/radios you have installed/turned on, but would be interesting to know what everyone is getting as an average.
I'm running a fairly untouched version of clean rom. The only battery tweaking I'm done is having GPS only turn on for maps. About 1 to 2% an hour
Over night i am normally at 65%. When i wake up its at 64%..... all data, gps and sync are off. And on silent mode....
While phone in deep sleep, it drains 0% for 6H and 1% around 7-8H. All stock and no root.

The only way i can get this is to turn on Airplane mode. Otherwise it drains about 1% per hour.
Usually 5% overnight. 8 hours.

At best I get 0.6%/hr with WiFi turned off over night (about 7 hrs). With WiFi on and connected it's worse, 1.1%/hr drain. Weird to me that yours uses less battery on WiFi.
In either case, my 'held awake' time is between 35 minutes and 1 hour, again this is overnight.
I've done a lot of tests since getting the phone and this is consistent for me.

While on 3/4G, Google Services and Android Systems are draining more data than on WiFi which leads to higher battery usage on mine.

Get better battery starts and check the kernel and partial wakelocks to see what keeps it awake.
I have some atrocious battery drain. Right now im on XTreSoLite 2.0 Odex and uniKernel with pretty much every service disabled, greenified, app removed, etc thats possible and still get bad drain. Ive even gotten rid of the Google app in my quest to fix it. I have more battery and wakelock managing apps installed i do than everything else combined. Literally nothing i do seems to make it reasonable. Right now im draining at 7.9% an hour, I average 5 hours of SOT with 16 of standby. If I let my device idle I get 2 hours or so of SOT with standby of 18 hours. Overnight drain can be anywhere from 10% to 2% and I can't figure out what to do to fix it. And the worst part is, all my wakelocks aren't anything severe. The most severe one I have keeps my device awake for a total of 5 minutes at most over the 16 hour period.
Literally at my wits end.
I even tried to undervolt my processor but I can't find an app that actually works, most just revert what I set after a few minutes. ._.
Stock OS was terrible, my phone would die in literally four hours immediately after after factory reset and not signing into any accounts.

Maybe you have removed too much and some app is waiting for another which you have removed or greenified.
BTW a device draining in 4 hours probably means a defective battery, these things can be very dangerous! !!!!
1-4% based on what I have running when I go to bed. I leave everything on.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
1-2% missing when i go to bed everythings on including wifi
I just have a night mode in Tasker. It drains around 1% over a night (8 hours) if bad cell, else less than 1%.
My night mode just toggle Bluetooth, data, wifi and GPS off and then on again at morning.
Yesterday had gone 25 hours without charging and still have 39% left but screen time of about 1.25 hours and most of the time on wifi. Talktime of about 1 hour. I haven't rooted or disabled any app and i find this is lot better idle drain than my nexus 5. But yeah i can only get around 4 hour SOT because i always use full brightness.
usually down bout 20%~ when i leave my phone for the night.

BATTERY LIFE: Standby Drain

When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the Note5's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I'll test this later today. Charge my phone to 100%, and right before I close my eyes, I'll unplug and see how it does. I'm curious as well.
Typically 0.5% per hour or less with lots of bloatware disabled (200+ apps). Couple gmail accounts, s note and scrapbook syncing.
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
So I unplugged my phone when it reached 100% and got a notification saying the battery is fully charged and unplugged it at 10:40 pm. About 7 hrs and 20 mins later, my phone dropped to 93%. That's about 1% every hour. My phone is stock, no root (yet) with 17 apps disabled. WiFi is on, brightness was on the lowest setting and all accounts on my phone sync through the the night.
I've never done this with one of my previous phones, so I can't really give you my opinion on how I feel about this. Let me know what you guys think. I'll try disabling some more apps and doing the test again and see if that has some effect.

if you are rooted and have xposed. download Mobileactiveradiofix...bassically some apps you are using that utilize mobile data, after you turn off the screen it still using data....thats the gist of it.
Drain about 1% per hour.
Tried 3G all the way. Not much savings compared to LTE all day
I have the 920CD Dual sim. Horrible Battery standby. I lose 2 - 3% per hour on android system usage while i'm sleeping.
I tried disabling apps etc but to no avail!
During night my phone consumes up to 30% of battery, my stand-by is 16hrs at max!!!. I love my phone but there is an obvious problem about it.
On the other side my wife has the same phone and her battery withstands up to two(2!) days.
(Hers is running on stock firmware with simple tuning, mine is also on stock but i checked and disabled almost everything)
My phone is ; N920CXXU1AOH2 hers is N920CXXU1AOGF. Is there a way i clone her phone firmware and copy into mine?
I think you guys above may have Wakelock. Mine started up recently and it drains up to 15% of my battery from just a bit under 2 hours. Before that it would be fine. Unplugged all night (8hours) and lost 2-3% battery
I couldn't believe this rating was so low. This is the best at standby. Absolutely phenomenal. It's literally around 1-2% an hour. I can get home after 11hrs and still have 70% left. Usually it's around 50% with 2 hrs of screen on time / use.
Got an update yesterday. ..it includes the doze feature from marshmallow. ..vastly improved the standby time
ścribbled from my Note 5
I wouldn't call 1-2% per hour idle time phenomenal, It's average at best.
0.5% per hour (or 2 hours per 1%) I'd say that's very good.
3 hours per 1%, that's excellent. This happens to be my Xperia Z3 Compact's idle time when I sleep.
Phenomenal? It would need to be 4 hours per 1% idle time.
My Note 5 is doing 1% per hour currently.
My iPhone 6s Plus can go over 7 hours standby and still be at 100%. One of my biggest peeves with Android was battery drain. Just switched with the release of the 6s and am very happy. Had the Note 5 and still have the Nexus 6. The doze feature still can't even come close. And it only works if the phone is shelved. Not in the pocket. Not good enough for me.
Please everyone who has the drain, write samsung feedback on their support website. It is most of the time caused by the wlan_rx_wake, wlan_cntrl_wake and wlan_wake wakelocks. I am trying to find a fix but so far nothing has helped me except turning off wifi.

Really? I can live without WiFi most of the time if it helps my battery.
I was getting great battery life, I stopped using the Note 5 for about 3 weeks while I reviewed some other devices and when I return I'm loosing 5% an hour, doing nothing. I've done a factory reset once, slightly better, but still not great. Might try another tomorrow.
Let us know if you find a fix.

During night, I switch off mobile network and wifi, but both SIM still active for phonecalls. Drain this way is around 0.5% per hour or 3%-4% per night - depending on how long I sleep
Frankly, I only used the phone with the latest update so, I have no idea about battery performance before it. Anyways, I'm getting great overnight battery performance, with 3% dropping in 7-8 hours (mobile data, wifi and bluetooth off).
all data and BT off and you're dropping 3%? Turn your phone off and you'll drop 0%
Mediaserver, system and kernel kill my standby. Is it worth factory reset or should I hang out for marshmallow?

The battery lost 5% in the night and the device was not a wake

I left the device on 100% and go to sleep.
When I woke up I see 95% so I check the better battery stats and saw that the phone was in deep sleep all the time just minute and half was a wake.
It say the the mobile standby make it.
I think it too much if the device was sleeping
What do you think? I have a problem with my battery?
no, i guess not because i have arond 4 % loss over night in 8-9 hours. mobile signal strenght is also an issue if you have bad reception. but i guess the drain is normal. nothing to worry about. Are you stock or custom? I am on weta with naptime en greenify.
Unless it's a signal issue that does seem high. I get 1-2% over 6-7 hours over night. I'm not using anything like greenify or naptime either. I get that on Stock 7.0 and on Pure Nexus 7.

5% over a whole night and you think there is something wrong with your battery? Assuming that is 6-8 hours I'm not sure why you are worried. It is still on and, thus draining. So, if you let it for 24 hours 15% seems high to you?

No, it doesn't. Everyone has different setups, and <1% an hour is not high battery drain.

less than 1% an hour is a sound result.
I WOULD KILL for that kind of idle battery life. I HOPEFULLY get my 6p Thursday. I am on the S5 now running MM and sitting at my desk I get 5% or more per hour drain if I am lucky. right now, if I am not on it much, 10% per hour.

Hmm, doing nothing with phone it was 1% every 4 hours on stock. With PN7 its like 1% every 4 hours. This is with about 35 apps installed or no extra apps installed. So if you're seeing about 5% loss overnight for about 6-8 hours, it seems to me your phone isn't deep sleeping very well, cause that means there is a lot of stuff still working in the background. Like i said, unless there is poor signal.
Again this is based on what i see on stock and PN7.

After being on Android since Gingerbread and using Sammy and Nexus devices, while doze in MM and N has brought a lot of improvements in sleeping battery drain, I'd say that 2% over an entire night is unusually low.
Also, many folks do different things to their phones overnight. If you leave it 'on' but turn off your radios and turn on total silence as opposed to just letting it go to deep sleep but leaving everything 'on', you'll see significant differences in drain.
I'd still just look at 24 hours of no use, doze drainage and if you only got 15% drain that would translate to roughly 7 full days of standby. That's pretty good. In your scenario, 3-6% drain over 24 hours of standby/doze is pretty much unheard of. I'm not aware of any phones that typically give users 17-33 days of standby

I've been on android only and since the droid X days which was Froyo myself.
My phone is exactly the same overnight as during the day. I rarely ever use WiFi since I'm on TMobile. My phone has to be fully available to me since I'm an IT Admin and that means I'm on call site security reasons 24/7. To me getting 5% a night would be making me search through my phone to find three cause LoL
Im not too sure what setting i changed on mine but when i wake up after 7 hours i'm sitting at 99%

Is the battery life still good? And on that note, how good is the standby drain (asking here because no one seems to have posted on that topic).
I'm worried about battery life because I'm seriously thinking about getting this over the OP6, but there aren't many reviews out there.

After 12 June update, sot has decreased. Now I get about 6~7 hrs BUT my brother (he uses this phone too) still gets 8 hrs. I'm on 20 June update but there's 22 June update (I didn't understand why ASUS gave this update very early. Also it is 410MB but the others were about 200~300 MB so I'm hopeful about this update) So I can't talk about the latest update (I didn't update)
About standby drain: When I was on 1 June update, only 4% gone whole night (11pm~7am) but I can't say anything about the other updates.
I will test sot and standby drain when I update.
Oh btw I want to write today's sot:
Last full (and last) charge: 16hrs 45 mins ago
Sot: 6 hrs 46 mins
5% left
Edit: I didn't see that my battery is 4% on screenshot. I'm sorry
Edit 2: I updated and not changed much. I got 7h25min max (used till 2%). I still couldn't test standby drain but if you want to know something, I can share my latest battery stats. 5h4min sot 15h23min total (so about 10 hrs idle) and 29% left. I guess I will get 2 more hours sot. According to me standby drain is good enough.

Looks decent. Could've been better, but I guess it's because of that IPS screen. Wish the battery could've been a bit bigger than the standard Zenfone 5.
I'm getting around 5:30 hours (on a Zenfone 5, not 5z), how do you manage to get 7:25?
UPDATE:
6:25 of mostly youtube and chrome browsing, bluetooth is always on paired to my smartwatch, as well as wifi and 4G.
(Zenfone 5 SD636). Overall im happy with that, think i can squeeze even more, i have APKpure taking 5% for some unknown reason.

Actually the other day i was doing 6:25 SOT, which I'm quite happy with. 4G and WIFI are on all the time, and my phone is constantly connected by BT to my Amazfit Bip watch.
location is also always on, and I'm on the latest firmware (.19).
I am deeply impressed by the battery life of this phone. In first recharge I got close to 7h 43 min SOT, later in second recharge it went up to 8'36". Both cycles took considerable usage of roaming, bluetooth on for at least 4-5 hours, some streaming over bluetooth, wifi was used partially maybe not more than a couple of hours, google maps was used and finally the second recharge includes live streaming WC Final Match too. Both SIMs were occupied with primary on VoLTE and always data on.
Brightness was kept on comfortable 30-40% level except for while watching match, when it was close to 55%.

Brightness was kept on comfortable 30-40% level except for while watching match, when it was close to 55%.

That's very good. I am getting about 7 hrs SOT. I am losing 8-10% overnight with wifi and data off with single SIM on 4G. Any suggestions how to improve standby drain?

.
Learn how to use mobile manager.
There stop apps from auto starting.
Close apps from recents menu when you go to sleep.
WiFi/data off.
Check WiFi settings where it does not keep looking for signals.
My standby drain over 8 hours is 1%, sometimes barely touching 2...
Am getting 4+ Hrs SOt only...Device idle has more drain in my mobile ..can any1 help to get more SOT...

Check if your area has constantly signal fluctuation. I remember my friend constantly had signals switching between 3G & 4G on his 3T and his battery drain was worse, but only at his home. Otherwise it was good.
If signal strength is good, it might be something else.

Thanks. Last night I kept it in 2G after taking care of above steps and lost 3% in 7 hrs, which is reasonable. However, on 4G still losing around 7-8%. Not sure if AI is consuming battery.

Yes, There is lot of signal fluctuation in my home.. might be the reason for draining . Thanks
I'm quite happy with the battery life on this device, constantly getting over 7h SOT with everything on [emoji108]
Sent from my ASUS_Z01RD using Tapatalk
Around 4.5 hour with 30 minutes of pubg and switching between social media apps
Hope it gets improved in pue update
Initially got 3h43m sot with dual sim in 4G. Switched it to 2G/3G mode and sot increased to 5h45. So guess it was the constant fluctuations from 4G to 3G that was causing the low sot. But the last update a few weeks back and my sot has dropped to 5h, no change in my daily usage. Still in 2G/3G mode. Don’t know why the loss in almost an hour of sot
Hoping for good optimizations on pie.

Standby drain

When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the Huawei P20 Pro's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Had my p20 pro yesterday. Turn on Ultra Battery when i go to bed at about 2300 with 69% battery. Wake up this morning at 0700 with 42% battery.

See attached Screenshot.
Nothing changed like doze settings or smth.
Sleeping like a baby (25 min Sot) wifi and lte.
Got phone yesterday. It had been charging sontooknit off charge when I went to sleep. 7 hours later it had only dropped 4% 96%.
2% batt drop in 9h21m with everything enabled overnight, very happy with that.
I even go to sleep with 30% juice left without plugging it into the charger now
I am amazed at the battery drain, hardly drains at all. I haven't not charged overnight like I did with my previous Pixel 2 XL. Battery drainer faster with P2XL.
Plugged off charger at 0030 last night, now at 0830 had about 85%. Use AOD and no battery saving mode.
This is <2% per hour! Luv it!

Brother even i have a same problem...
Every night before sleeping my phone is usually at 47-48%. Every morning it is at 15% or less..
Thats massive drop in 7-8 hours.
It could be the network signal. I've noticed that in my flat, when in standby, he doesn't drain that much and I'm on wifi and full signal coverage from Vodafone. On the other hand I have worse drain when I'm at work, still connected to the wifi but the network coverage is quite poor, so I realized it drains more even if I am not using it at all.

Well you point is valid.
Here at my place i get full bars on my 4g network. So it doesn't seem that problem.
I tried to test just on network. Wifi off. Battery drained 3% over night. Which is fine.
Then i tried with wifi on, it drained 20%. What i am concerned is that usually when on wifi battery doesn't drain at all in standby mode, which is not the case with my unit.
I want to know if there is some problem with that
Me too. I am experiencing 11% battery drain during standby. When I looked into the battery usage, Screen, Phone Idle and Mobile standby seems to be on the high side of 20%.
What I've just discovered is that in mobile Network Setting -> advanced -> "mobile data always on" was activated by default. Just turned it off and will now see if it reduces both idle and active usage drain when connected with WIFI. Because afaik this setting keeps mobile data enabled when connected with wifi to make switching between wifi and mobile data quicker (which i dont really need and never missed).

Ok, I'll try this setting to see if it works for me. Thank you.:good:
I tried this last night and went from the usual 3% to just 1% during a 7 hr period.

I have p20 pro now, very happy with how little i drain overnight, but with a previous phone i noticed that when it was cold it frained much quicker, i dont know where the guys are who are omlainging about large battery drain, but it could be an issue?
I have set Mobile Data always on to Off but still experiencing great battery drain. Fully charged at 12am and woke up 5.30am with 70% remaining.
A quick look into my Battery Usage, found out that Screen, Phone Idle and Mobile standby is at 20ish%. Does anyone have this same issue or these 3 hardware should stay at a certain range in order for my battery drain to minimise?

I think you definitely has something running in the background draining your battery. I have everything active even Mobile Data always on and still my battery only uses around 2% in 9-10 hours.
