N910F Stuck in boot sequence - HELP PLEASE!!! - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys, I came on here last week seeking advice as my Note4 has always been seriously laggy and slow. I tried resetting to factory etc however still the same. So the advice I got was to root and try another rom.
I successfully rooted my 910F device (confirmed by running test root app). I then downloaded a new rom to try out. In the instructions it suggested that I should be running the respective versions of Bootloader and Modem - which I downloaded from the links in the instructions. I installed both Bootloader and Modem via Odin successfully however now the device just loops in a boot up sequence. I copied the ROM files to the SD card however the when I try and load the rom from there it says that 'Update from external storage is disabled'.
I've downloaded a few other ROMs however they are zip files and I am guessing not designed to work with odin??
Hoping that there is a headache free way of recovering this.
Apologies in advance. I am an newbie with this stuff, really appreciate any help!!!!!
Thanks,
OB

You need custom recovery use TWRP.
Rom needs to be a zip DO NOT UNZIP IT.
From recovery flash the zip.

Really appreciate the reply.
The modem and Bootloader have already been loaded. So to be totally clear, I need to download an app called TWRP and load the ROM file (ZIP) with that right?
Thanks a bunch, really appreciate the help.
Bests,
OB

To add, the phone is not booting up (stuck in the boot up sequence) so I cant download and install any apps on it? Is TWRP a PC app?
Thanks,
OB

Nope, TWRP is not an App. It's a Recovery. You will find it in the development section. It's an img which you flash via ODIN. After that, you shut down the Phone and reboot via holding vol up + Home + Power. It will Boot you into the TWRP Recovery. from there you can then Install the Roms. They are provided as Zip. Don't Unzip them. Just select the zip to be installed via TWRP.

Bricked Note 3 - Now I need help!

Hello, I followed the root guide in this forum, it was successful, then I tried to change the LCD density to 240 and the mobile refused to boot!!
I am downloading a firmware from sammobile.com but still have no idea how to do it! should I use Odin or Kies?
Switch off your Note 3.
Put it in Download Mode (Home Button + VolDown + Power), then press VolUp to confirm.
Plug USB cable to Note 3 and computer.
Start Odin, on the left, you'll see a yellow square with "Com.xx", that's confirm your Note 3 is recognized by Odin.
Extract the archive you dlded from Sammobile, Samfirmware... You must have now a .tar or .tar.md5 file
Put it in the PDA field of Odin
Press Start
Wait until reboot
:good:
why not just flash a pre rooted rom in the dev section. You already have cwm. Can you get to cwm?
Edit
or do what luminouche says. You'll probably have to root again though. Not a big deal.
Thanks everyone! It is back to life now, but I will probably try again with the Screen Density thing.. I cannot stand the 480dpi
I think its very hard to brick a galaxy phone.

But why such a big change. This isn't the note 2. You went to the dpi you would use for the note 2. Try 340 or 380 instead

mine is stuck on samsung logo after boot. I can still access the cwm recovery.
Anything I can do or I have to flash the rom again. And will I lose my data ?
How does it happened? have you flashed anything?
Any way you can reflash ROM, flashing stock ROM won't erase data.

I flashed a animation zip file in CWM which I found on xda. There is also a restore framework zip to undo what the animation file did. But I can not transfer that to my phone as its not showing up as a USB drive in my laptop.
Any solutions ? please be detailed as I am new to android.

Try this by using a fat32 micro sdcard.
1. Copy restore to the sd card
2. Insert sd card in phone
3. In CWM flash the restore.
if that doesn't work you will probably have to flash your firmware again.

I think better to have a look to script of estore zip, what restore file does do. bcoz if that packed with some files which is not from this device than it won't work. If previous file which he flashed have script to make backup and restore.zip have script to restore same thing then only it will work.

This is the thread from where I got that animation zip file.
And I rooted by following the steps in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2460720
Yes I am from India. Delhi to be exact. I just don't want to lose data as I spent a lot of time customizing the phone.
Ok good news is that you can restore fom that zip, bad news is you need SD card, if you can manage that then it's easy.
otherwise
If you knoe adb, you can push file with to sdcard with adb command.
OR
simply flash stock ROM, that won't erase your data but you need to reroot.
Do you have internet access on PC?

Tell me more about adb
and where do I get the stocks roms from ? Did a google search but could not find anything
I thought i may help you with adb but i think it will me more complicatd and i have to move now, better i am updating here complete details to flash ROM wait 5 min.
and your device is n900 right?
and do you have samsung driver/kies installed?
Anyway i assume you have driver installed bcoz you have rooted already and if device is N900 then proceed this way.
Download indian ROM
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/247398412/38c8161/N900XXUBMI5_N900ODDBMI3_INU.zip.html
Then extract that to get tar.md5 file and flash with PDA tab of odin (same way you have root device)
if you need any guide you can refer this thread post#1 for installation guide.

Okay I got my phone working. I used adb pusher app , found it on xda. Simple to use.
But now my wifi is not working. Its stuck on turning on.
I did a little searching , the issue was solved by flashing a custom kernel.
Can I do that on a stock rom like mine. And which kernel will work with note 3?
There is no custom kernel available in my knowledge on your device.
Make backup and try wiping device otherwise flash stock rom.
And don't flash any other device component on your, you may soft brick your device.

Detailing his steps

Thanks for this ROM - my install went very smoothly. In case it helps anyone here is what I did - none of it required fastboot or adb:
Stating Point: Skrilax's V8 Bootloader, Thor's 1.7.3 Recovery, Randomblame's 4.3 JellyTime Release 1 (great ROM BTW). All the needed files (new recovery, OmniIROM, gapps, SuperSU) downloaded to my external sd card.
Step 1: Reboot into existing recovery and flash Thor's TWRP rev 2.0 beta 1 recovery. Reboot and make sure I could load my existing JB ROM.
Step 2: Reboot into the new recovery, go to wipe menu and choose Factory Reset.
Step 3: Flash OmniROM from OP, reboot. I did not have the issues others are having and was able get into the new ROM in less than a minute.
Step 4: Enabled developer options so I could reboot from the power menu (not necessary but convenient), reboot into recovery and flash the minimal gapps from the link in the OP. Reboot and make sure I could still boot into OmniROM.
Step 5: Reboot into recovery one more time and flash SuperSU from the OP
I had some trouble getting into the play store at first, it seemed to hang but after two more reboots (after first reboot I was able to load the play store and after the second I was able to access my apps) I was able to install TB so I could reinstall the rest of my stuff.
Maybe this methodical install one thing, reboot and make sure everything is working ok before rebooting to install the next is overkill but in the end it all worked for me.
Looking forward to using this ROM on my A500. Thanks again for all your hard work and keeping this tab alive!

Well I reinstalled W7 and everything went great until, I didnt follow directions on the rom I was trying to flash. I am ICS bootloader unlocked now and I have V8 installed but now I cant get into recovery. I am able to get in to a different menu which says I can boot into recovery but all it does is says booting recovery kernel image. I went in to fastboot mode and used fastboot command fastboot reboot recovery and it didnt work, I do have the drivers installed for fastboot but I think I am missing something small probably. Any help would be appreciated. I wiped system in recovery and flashed Evil Alex rom, then read the directions like an idiot, this is way different than all the phones.

It looks like a bug. Meanwhile you can try to flash stock recov again and do it all over again. This time flash the twrp with odin and uncheck auto reboot and reboot it manually.
And avoid rebootinh to recovery from the system. Boot to recovery only through the hardware buttons. (3 button combo) volume up+home button+power button.
And the restart button is volume down+power long press it.

Sorry for replying here, I'm still below 10 posts so I cant reply to your original post
First: no words are enough to thank you for you effort. It's working and really amazing. Thanks a lot
But I noticed something: when I tried to flash a rom that I have just created, I got an error message "This rom is for e73g while this device is e5lte" I dont know whether this is a problem in my device or it's recovery related
BTW I'm trying to create a deodexed debloated stock rom

Thanks for thanking me??hashiesh.
This is not the problem of the device nor recovery. In the META-INF folder in the Rom zip there is a file names UPDATERSCRIPT. Open it in notepad++ or any other tool and remove the first 3 lines.
There should be something written assert. It checks the device name.
So remove it and you are good to go.
Attach or share the updaterscript here so that we can look at it.
After success you can share the ROM in here.

Thank you for your information, I found the 3 lines of "asserts" but i'm trying to set the assert to "e5lte" and will update you if it worked.
Sure I will upload it and it will be the first time to upload a rom after years of modifying stock and custom roms without even creating a flashable zip file
I'm planning to create 3 roms
1. Stock deoedexed deknoxed rooted with busybox
2. same as 1 but debloated (I consider all samsung apps to be bloatware)
3. Will try to replace samsung core apps with google ones from stock nexus gapps
so wish me luck and remember that all these are thanks to your TWRP

Thanks for thanking mehashiesh.

Got stuck trying to root, just want to return to stock/factory settings.

I'm new so please forgive me and my ignorance through all of this. I had a great root experience with my old LG G3, so when I got my Axon 7 (A2017U) I thought I'd try to root it too. I tried to follow DrakenFX's guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/wip-axon-7-root-bootloader-unlokced-t3441204) but I bit off more than I could chew. I got to the point where I had TWRP up, but this is where I think things started to fall apart. I was confused by the instructions and in a haste I continued anyway. In TWRP I went to Wipe>Format Data typed in yes like TWRP said and boom, I had no idea what happened. Rebooting only got a screen that said "Type in your password" but my passcode I had on the phone before it bricked didn't work. So by now I start panicking a bit. I thought I made a mistake earlier so I went back and tried to reinstall TWRP by putting the phone into EDL. The phone got stuck that way for a while, but I now I have it in TWRP. Right now, I just want to get back to safe stock android.
I'm 200% sure I messed with something I wasn't supposed to and I believe that is the system image(?)which Draken also linked (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68248798&postcount=53). I'm downloading it as I type. I'm going to do my best to leave my phone just like it is right now, in TWRP, and wait for more advice on this before I do anything else.. What I'm curious about is where did I go wrong and what do I need to do to get my phone working again, preferably without returning it? Thank you for any advice you have to offer.
Update: It's worth noting I didn't know to enable OEM Unlocking when I was in stock android. Dumb move I know. I'm new here.

I tried, but the downloads take extremely long and are unreliable for me. I was downloading the stock system file at around 14 kbps and it eventually failed. Any other suggestions?

I've done the wipes multiple times. It's mostly the downloads I'm having trouble with. How and where do you get them? The links I found were dead or had a slow speed.

Did you save the recovery backup? If you did then use the axon7root.exe to flash the stock recovery. Then download the stock B20 from ZTE.

I've been able to find some recovery images that I found on other threads. The thing is, when I try to flash them on TWRP, I get an error about "/dev/block/sde14" being read-only.

no no no no ..................... put phone in EDL mode. Copy the stock image into the folder with the axon7root.exe file you used to flash TWRP. Make sure the stock file is named recovery.img (or whatever the TWRP file is named in that folder, it has been a long time since I did this). Then use the axon7root.exe program the exact same way you did before. It will flash the stock recovery. Then in stock recovery you can flash the B20 from ZTE

Yes, I'm in the process of getting the update from sdcard feature working.
Update: Trying to use the update.zip file or unpacking it into the sdcard hasn't worked. Trying to use adb sideload returns "Cannot read 'update.zip'"

ok - download it from zte. Put it on your SD card. In recovery select update from SD card. Be warned it will work but it is slow. Also note that while I will not say the bootloader unlock doesn't work on B29, I can say it worked flawlessly on B20. If you want unlocked I recommend doing so on B20.

I tried that. It won't accept the zip file and it's unclear which file to sideload. Would you happen to know? This is what files are in the unpacked zip. https://gyazo.com/c7546c3ed0dcb0972653eaeba42fcb40

Maybe - I'd have to download it to find out. If you can't get stock recovery to take it this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69434328&postcount=17 gives you instructions on what lines to remove from the updater-script to make it flash in TWRP (I didn't have a problem making the stock B20 go in stock recovery, but I was unlocked at the time). You could reflash TWRP and try that.
Or just try this in TWRP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68873482&postcount=2

I'm going to try the first option. The second option's link take horrendously long to download.
Update: Trying to flash from TWRP results in error "Could not find 'META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary' which makes no sense since update binary is exactly where it should be.
Further Update: It seems that the problem might have been that when I compressed "update.zip" to fix "updater-script" it changed to file path by adding the title of the folder "update" to the beginning. I think that messed with the path giving the the meta-inf error.

Use CF-Auto-Root
Flash in odin AP section
https://download.chainfire.eu/953/C...-Auto-Root-s5neoltecan-s5neoltevl-smg903w.zip
Or
Flash a custom rom & then flash magisk

Ok. I've asked the forum in another thread but no one has replied. I don't understand. We can't be the only two people who own this phone, running 7.0, who want to root the device...
I think I will roolback and flash 6.0. Looks like there is a lot of support and threads showing how to root from 6.0.

Also make sure you have enabled usb debugging in dev options
Also look for enable oem unlock & if you see it enable it

Well I flashed it using odin. It says "pass" in odin and took a while to boot, but I think it worked. How do I verify? Download an app? And can I flash TWRP? If so, which one?

I'd guess it would be the following for g903w s5 neo lte
https://dl.twrp.me/s5neolte/twrp-3.2.3-0-s5neolte.img.tar.html
Put in AP section of odin
As soon as the device restarts hold power button Vol up & home button to enter recovery
If you miss the moment to enter recovery for the first time after flashing & your phone boots you will have to reflash the image until you enter twrp for the first time

I managed to get TWRP installed. I tried to install Lineage 15.1 as per this site:
https://www.cyanogenmods.org/forums...-for-galaxy-s5-neo-android-8-1-oreo-download/
and am now stuck in a loop. It installed successfully with no errors but will stay stuck on the Lineage loading screen then revert back to recovery.
Any ideas what may be causing this? Should I install 14.1?

Correct process for flash rom
In twrp
Goto wipe
Advanced wipe
Wipe system data cache delvik/art cache
Install
Select rom zip
Install
Select gapps zip - use mind the gapps arm for lineage os 15. 1 http://downloads.codefi.re/jdcteam/javelinanddart/gapps
Optional install
Select root zip (use magisk)
Wipe delvik/art cache
Restart
If you didn't follow the above that's why it would bootloop
Hi, I'm wanting to root my s5 neo on 7.0 and like you, I'm also and finding it very difficult to find a guide that has a successful ending
I'm new to all this but I did notice that you tried to install lineage 15.1 for sm-g903F but your device is sm-g903w. Could that be your problem?
Have you successfully rooted your device yet?
To be honest I don't really want root, I just want to extract or atleast view all my saved wifi network passwords from the device.
