Marshmallow 6.0 - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys! When do you think when we'll expect the marshmallow update? Can we hope for the same dates as the nexus devices?

Its started...
We stand a good chance to get it but I'll be surprised if its before Christmas. Definitely not the same time as nexus devices. They seem to get it exclusively for a short while.

I just know I'll hold off to make sure it doesn't mess up our phones first. Admittedly, Moto has had a few updates that really messed things up in the past.

my guess is nov-dec,

Motorola has announced that the current generation of phones have a short, but undefined window for upgrade, if they follow the previous trend, we'll be looking at November/December in North America, and January/Feb for the rest of the world
Motorola posted the update here

in my experience, it could be months. As in Q2 2015
Knowing Samsung it might not be till end of summer 2015 (if you are lucky).

There have already been two preview builds for the S5, both shown by Sammobile on YouTube. Which means they are working on it and they're almost there. I would expect an update closer to the end of the year or at the beginning of the next.

Meanwhile, the good people at LG are releasing Lollipop for the LG G3 this week. Samsung is always way too slow with updates, for no acceptable reason.

Android in G3 is not so heavily modified than in Samsung phones. Maybe that's the reason.

Yes they will get it this week, in fact people already have it.

Enough proof for you?
I am pretty confident/optimistic that we will have the update during Nov-Dec, 1-2 months from now
So far we have seen 2 leaks of Lollipop for S5, 1 leak of S4, so imagine at what level the newest flagship of Samsung is
Even more, all companies are promoting fiercely their update plans, so Samsung should be at least worried and thus speed up their game.
Lastly, last year we had the same case as with Note 3, it was released with 4.3 Jellybean and it received the 4.4 Kitkat update in early January.
The best news relateed to this is that Chainfire was able to root Lollipop on the Nexus 9. It is encouraging that if you have an unlocked bootloader, it seems likely that there will be root for Android 5.

According to this article it's late November early December.

But I wouldn't hold my breath.
As I mentioned, don't expect anything before a few months. I estimate q2 2015 but this article seems to say February 2015

Are you joking? There are builds for the S5 and the S4, the latter being almost 2 years old now! There is no way the the Note 4 will get an update in "Q2 2015". And the article you linked to has no substantial evidence or insight. On the other hand, we know Note 3 was released with 4.3 and got an update to 4.4 in January, so it's not far fetched to think the Note 4 will be treated the same way.

I hope you are right, but I highly doubt we will get it before end of Q1-2015. Yes there are builds for many phones, but Samsung tends to take their sweet time coming up with a final draft. I suffered plenty with the Note 2 and Note 3 (still on 4.4.2 until now). Maybe the fact that almost every manufacturer other than samsung will have Lollipop before end of the month might make Samsung move faster (but I doubt it, because they know that most of their end users aren't on XDA and don't know lollipop from lollygag).
What's really funny -and to be frank, quite sad- is how we use words like "suffer" when we explain how we feel about waiting for an update. It's a phone. Save your capacity to suffer for things that actually matter.
Maybe Samsung will see this and we'll get the update this week........or in Q4 15[emoji13]

Android 6 aka Marshmallow

Android named 6 version as Marshmallow as I thought. If LG does the same think like Lollipop we will see Android 6 for G3 soon as 3rd and final preview released today.

some blogs report is already avaiable the unlock of LG G3 bootloader with bump! i dont know if is the real method or not but i dont see it anywhere!
about having the Android 6, i think only about february or march next year! Because now we have the G4 first to receive it.
People will riot to LG building in Korea if they wait till next year for Android 6. 5.0 for G3 is so buggy.

That's all we want. We must get Android 6 as soon as Google release it. There were 3 preview builds so what do really do LG software department anyway. They get money like US gets oil from middle east(lol), so what are they doing with all that money? Hire talented developers and make updates rain.
If Nexus devices had enough battery like 3000, i wouldn't lick LG's backpack for updates anyway.

to be honest I never liked LG's software development. I always believed in developers here on XDA. In my opinion LG is making powerful hardware, this is why I will stick to LG int he future, but they not tailor the OS perfectly to the device. I always liked more Stock modded softwares.
Is there any release date for 6.0 in general? Or that last dev/preview build is like RTM for Windows?
We won`t get anything this year guys. Lets be realistic. Google said M will be ready "later this fall". So we can expect it maybe in October. LG G4 will be first with the update, rolling out in December just as
G3s last years Lollipop update. I am guessing for Q1 2016 (earliest) if we get the update at all
I bet we won't get any official bootloader unlock, nor android marshmallow before january '16.
I have decided to go back to Nexus next time. Not for the latest shiny widget but to ensure I get security updates ASAP and not 1 year after my phone has retired.
I like my LG G3 but that I have to live with well documented and exploited security holes for almost a year is ridiculous.
In this case I suspect it is as much LGs fault as it also would be my carriers who insists on retesting everything for x weeks.
Nexus 5 or 6 2015 edition, bring it on

6.0.1 In the US?

Hey guys. I am rooted and currently running the 6.0.1 Asia release image. Just wondering if anyone knows why there's been such a delay in getting the OTA for the US variant? I've really enjoyed using the Moto X and with the Moto Credit i opened it would have been easy for me to justify upgrading to the 2016 version when it is announced. But being as OCD as i am about timely OS updates, going back to the nexus line is looking like a better option as the days go by. I get that 6.0.1 is just an incremental update, but that makes me wonder even more why it hasn't been rolled out. I'm hoping that this just means we'll receive Android N as quickly as possible, but i wont hold my breath. Thoughts?

Moto X Pure edition says goodbye - RIP. The 3rd paragraph in this article reads: "well, according to renowned leak artists Evan Blas's, the Moto X line up is no more. His tweet in the matter simply read "goodbye, moto X. details tomorrow. Which could mean a lot of things, but it's the goodbye part that is the most scary.
I hope they still plan on supporting this phone, not going to hold my breath.

Just because they're discontinuing one line and starting another is no reason to stop updating the previous line. The device is not even one year old. It'd be a terrible (and BS) decision to just drop support for it like it never happened. Especially with them discounting the device so much lately, they'd have a lot of new pissed off users on their hands.
Thinking on it, I honestly think the release of 6.0.1 to a limited number of handsets may specifically be targeted to see what problems will arise. Not the first time a manufacturer has done this. But informing customers would be a good move when doing this.

Wow, Moto does it once, while Samsung has changed theirs 7 times (first was the 1, then 2 then 3 ...... now 7!!!) Must be a VERY slow news day, and he needed something to post.
The life of a report must be VERY hard.

If Lenovo is smart, it will happen on this time frame. After all, this was one of the selling points of this phone and brand. I can understand their stance on quarterly security updates vice monthly, so I don't think it is indication of any delay to be expected. Having recently acquired the Moto line, failure to meet this expectation would be bad for business. My only hope is that the level of quality fit future phones remains intact. I have had the bad luck of being burned by both a laptop and windows tablet by them. Both had mobos that quit within a few months of the year warranty being up.
It shouldn't take more than 2 months after the release for nexus which means in november ; marshmallow was released fir nexus devices in october and our moto recieved it in december! Actually I believe that it shoudn't take more than a month ! I mean the job is pretty easy for lenovo! No modding no UI changes..... It's pretty much stock android All it takes is a clean build ! It isn't that different from making an update for nexus devices!

Will Moto X style/pure get Android N update?

I do hardly believe that Moto X style/pure might get N but there is no official news about it...
I tweeted Moto_Us and Moto_India but got same reply that
"We currently have no info.. For more info kindly stay updated"

Voted no only because I'm doubtful we'll get it officially, but as the other people have said... custom roms bro.
I think it will get 7.0 by the end of the year. It got 6.0 pretty fast, and is still pretty much the flagship of Motorola. People just lost hope because of the ignored 6.0.1 update. I'm hoping to switch back to a Nexus anyway so I don't have to worry about updates anymore.

But is it still a flagship with the new Moto Z's coming out? Way things have gone with Lenovo I'd not put money on it BUT never say never.
Well, if they abandon any real support for this phone in one year, I won't be coming back to Lenovo/Motorola. I'll just have to decide if expandable memory is still a deal maker/breaker with the next gen and go Nexus or something else.

Agreed!
Android 7 will be there!!!
With X-Style there aren't any technical/hardware issue or even a minor reason for not supporting the Android 7. So with this the liability of providing or not providing Android 7 will be with Motorola (Lenovo). Providing with Latest Android version being a USP of Moto phones, there is very chance that they will not risk reputation with this phone by excluding the update.
In-case this is not done for some reason then my steps would be:
1) Root and install Android 7 rom.
2) Buy a new Nexus phone.
3) Collect Invoice of all my Moto phone (Namely: Moto G (8gb), Moto G (16gb), Moto E (4gb), Moto G3, Moto G Turbo, Moto X Style).
4) Submit the collected Invoice plus the nexus invoice to Motorola with update as why they lost a loyal customer.
*Infact I was planing this for the delayed patch, and made my disappointment by tweeting the same to motorola. Were they assured me of early notification of update.*
[rant] motorola sucks/how to kill a perfectly good device
Motorola/Lenovo service has been horrible both in replacing defective hardware and with software updates even though they committed to timely release! They will probably at some point release Nougat on this device but really how long will it take (see where we are with MM updates!!) ? And as far as custom roms are concerned we're seeing so little developper activity for this device that I think everyone has already moved on! This was my first non-Nexus device in a long while and I'm not eager to duplicate the experience. It's really too bad as I really liked the Moto X pure. :crying:
Ffs these threads need to stop. Yes the Moto x pure 2015 will get 7. IT WILL TAKE TIME release of n is rolling out give it a few months
