USB Version? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just preordered my Nexus 6P, somewhere in satans belly it is gestating, waiting for my tender touch.... Sorry.
So I heard a rumor that the USB interface is only USB 2, is that true?

I'm about 99% sure it's just USB 2.0 Type C.
All of the accessory cables on google's store page are USB 2.0.
Sucks, but oh well I guess :/

Google Store pages say 2.0 and 2.0 speeds. but on the Nexus 6P pages it says 7 hours of talk time from 10 minutes of charging... so idk what to believe!
Edit*: Android Police confirms it is indeed 3.0 and not 2.0

It just confuses the hell out of me why they would do that on their top flagship phone.
I guess it isn't a super big deal and certainly not a deal breaker but I just don't get it.

They could have done a lot of things - including bumping the price another couple hundred.
It is good to see nexus going back to best bang for the buck though. Got nervous after the price on last years 6.

Shouldn't it be USB 3.1 not 3.0 if it is the faster standard? USB 3.0 doesn't have a types connector unless I'm mistaken

apparently the reasoning behind it is that a USB connection is always on, and at this time USB 3.0/1 draws too much power to be worthwhile in phones...

I had to watch that with no sound... damn work computer... I wanted to see the ratings though. Did the Nexus One have the multi-touch update? I would assume no. And I am also assuming that would go a long way in helping out on a couple of those 4.0 scores.
They did not include the new MT support. Time for a rematch!

There is another thread about this I found. Search for it. Anyway, it seems that the issue is Touchwiz 2.5. SO...we have to wait until Froyo comes out with TW3.0 and THEN see if the TV out is available. All of the other SGS phones that have it are TW 3.0.
But I'm with you man.

This is partially true, but not totally true.
When people talk about TV out, it's helpful if they define how they wish to get TV out.
All four US Galaxy S series phones support DLNA, which is why Samsung claims TV out features for their phones. But that's now what most folks would consider TV out...
Only the GSM phones have TV out via the 3.5mm output.
So to say that this is a TW 3.0 issue, would be inaccurate. The Fascinate has TW3.0 and does not support TV out via the 3.5mm port. I read a post somewhere that described the CDMA chip not being able to work with the 3.5mm out port, but I haven't been able to find it. I thought it was BS at the time so I ignored it, but now that the Fascinate is out and the 3.5mm port does not support TV out, I'm trying desperately to find it to double check the specs.
That leaves TV out via the microUSB port. Samsung's website was offering (they still might be) an HDMI cable that worked via the microUSB port and specifically listed the Galaxy S series (including the Fascinate, Captivate, Vibrant and Epic by name) however, nobody has been able to get it to work.
And thuse we're left with the speculation that TV out via the MicroUSB might be a Froyo addition, but not necessarily something that might be part of TW3.0 independently.
I found the post. Here you go:

Hi, I'm a Sprint employee and Epic owner. Having worked with the Samsung developers a little I can tell you with assurance that the TV Out option was not "disabled" by Sprint's choice. It's a h/w limitation. When you first boot the phone you get an auto update which appears to disable the TV Out option, but I think that's a mandatory because the shipping ROM is universal to domestic carriers from Samsung. The TV Out limitation is due to the CDMA SOC (system on chip), which will be true for the Verizon model coming soon. The Galaxy S devices based on the GSM SOC do have the TV Out option.
DLNA is the only option for displaying multimedia on a remote display, but keep in mind you are limited to self-created content. You can't broadcast YouTube or SprintTV across DLNA as the DRM encryption is not supported on either the Epic or any remote device.
We're glad you're a Sprint customer and hope you remain happy with your Epic!

Because you cannot share your self-recorded Movies through every DLNA device. PS3 and the Xbox both do not support our 3gp HD movie format.
I would like to visit my mother's house and be able to plug into her TV and show her the recordings of her granddaughters and other self-recorded video but I will be unable to do so without expensive extra hardware.
Well, don't shoot the messenger - I simply pay attention.
And second, RCA jacks are so 1990's I don't really care if they don't support them. This is a top of the line phone, so I'm glad if they sacrificed somewhere that they sacrificed 1990s technology.
That being said, don't give me HDMI out with the Froyo update and, well I'll have a CDMI issue. Good thing I'm on Sprint with 4G and not Verizon where I'd be really screwed. No 4G, no TV out, nothing to justify my costs, really...

Given that last post, I'm almost tempted to gamble with $40. If anyone else has seen this done, just 1 more person to verify and I'm in. Now that I've heard a physical 'my own 2 eyes' confirmation, I'm feeling a bit optomistic (although probably setting myself up for disappointment). Anyone else tried or know someone who's tried?

Well, I agree that people shouldn't be upset if it ISN'T there. However, if people are mearly asking for alternatives/workarounds, or possibly finding unadvertised features (ie 3.5 jack on gsm models) I believe that's exactly what this forum is for. However I also believe people should not be starting a ton of threads. Search for those that exist, and continue that thread (or make this one 'the thread')

Galaxy Tab Cable on the Streak?

Has anyone else noticed that the Galaxy Tab uses a connection pretty damn similar to the one on our Streaks? After doing some reading it looks as though both use PDMI and cables sold as Galaxy Tab cables are a damns sight cheaper. So I've just ordered one and hopefully I will have some good news to report, we'll be able to spend a fiver instead of £30 for a cable! Not to mention car chargers.
But if anyone knows someone with a Tab they can test, we might get an answer sooner?

Ahhhh that sux! But I think, had I searched google for "Dell streak with galaxy tab cable" I would have noticed the amount of people that had the same bright spark idea.... It does annoy the hell out of me, how they can use a "standard" and make it proprietary.

EVO HDMI

This is an attempt to get some information about HDMI.
For a long time I hear people saying somebody from the CM already got it working but so far the only thing I see is rumors like nobody knows for sure. Some people don’t live in a 4g are so like me they don’t worry about 4g, so for people like us the only thing keeping us for going in to cyanogen or any other none sense rom is the HDMI.
So here is my big questions, does anybody know for sure if this rumor is true or not about the HDMI?
Anybody from cyanogen did something with the HDMI or not?
Would that be any hope for CM7?
I know somebody already got the 4g working on the CM rom, I just hope someday soon we can have HDMI as well.
If anybody out there from CM see this thread I will really appreciated if you give us any hope.

I tend to agree with you. It really brings back shades of the Nexus 5 with this price point. Also, VZW is not the sole carrier and BB along with others is selling it for basically $299 after credits / gift cards. The only 2 things that slightly bother me is the lack of waterproof and no wireless charging neither of which is a deal breaker. I'm curious what they look like so I'll head over to BB later. Now comes the question, will there be a Pixel 4a and what will that be like?
I was kinda bummed about wireless charging but I just put a wireless charging receiver on it from Amazon and it charges surprisingly fast.

Awesome brother, yeah I have not regretted buying my 3a. I had the Pixel 3 when it first came out and sold it for a used Galaxy S9 and a OnePlus6T which were both better than the Pixel 3. The Pixel 3A has already booted on DU and Carbon. TWRP trees exist for it too. They just aren't finished, but they work.

Yeah I saw the du post. Excited. But that was for the xl. I would assume they share the same source but I'm not positive. Flar says there are hardware differences over on the ex thread.

Here it is. Not sure what he meant as I thought the only difference was the 0.4 inches in screen and the 700mah battery size.

Yes the only difference is the panel and battery from what I can tell.

A good developer, @tdhite, mentioned swapping over to a Pixel 3a from the Samsung flagships, not sure if he's going XL though. I also heard someone is working on TWRP, not sure on the progress.
