Availability at Launch? Predictions? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As many of you probably remember from the Nexus 6, and I think even the Nexus 5, Google seems to stock 100 units per day.
I want to pick up the 6P, but almost certain I won't be able to for at least a month after launch because I never can catch a break with getting online while units are available.

Just replied to u on other thread "You will need to be concerned, since they were sold out in about 10 minutes the last 3 launches! My finger was in pain from hitting the PC F5 refresh key...."

for those who can manage to hold off for a month i think will benefit most, as any concerning defects or software problems will be beyond the paranoia stage into being facts. And its battery life will be confirmed for real world usage also, rather than people posting SOT snap shots.
hard to resist though, i know.

Why not buy it now, and return it within 14 days if you don't like it??? Buy buy buy.

Sure hope it doesn't follow the Nexus 4 launch ? It was also only sold through the Play Store at first, and that thing sold out in seconds, was nowhere to be found anywhere until like February the next year.
It sold out the first day right away, and then two weeks later went back in stock on the Play Store, and 30 seconds later sold out again for 2 weeks. Rinse and repeat for three months. That Nexus was near impossible to get, it didn't have a steady supply in stock for at least 3 to 4 months after launch.
I don't expect the 5X and 6P to be that bad, but I will not be surprised if it's close to that poor supply. I bet these new Nexus phones will be super hard to get over the next month.
Basically you will need to order one the split second they release it, not wait 10 minutes, let alone later in the day. These will sell out super fast, and the 5X ? LOL that will be gone in 1/10th of a second.

I've never had a problem ordering a nexus product on launch (since nexus one), until last year with the n6. Even though that process was stupidly handled.. I think it had to do more with Motorola and their promising carriers certain amounts. I don't think we'll have that problem this year. at least I'm crossing my fingers on that one lol

It will be interesting to see, how many google can actually deliver, because if they are really like the leaks say, they will go away like an iPhone.
After the Nexus 6 many waited for a smaller one (5X) and many want one with a better cam (6P). Also after Stagefright and the general dislike of samsung like roms and the update problematic, most a bit better informed ppl, want to get a nexus device next. If the phones are as promising as they look .... it will be hard to get one.

I'd say units won't ship until at least mid October. I'm gonna wait until November to get one. Hopefully T-Mobile carries it so I can use my upgrade.

My prediction, we are all screwed. Google will troll us and put it up for a second then claim to be sold out for a week or two

Check out firefox extension "Check4Change"
It'll auto refresh the page every 5 seconds and notify you when something changes. IE the button changes from "Coming Soon" to "Order Now"
Maybe sharing this will hinder my ability to buy one.

I love how one of the biggest technology companies in the world can't figure out how to do preorders. They shouldn't "sell out" until, you know, the device is released. Just keep pushing the estimated delivery date back as orders come in.
But I guess that would be asking too much of Google.

For some reason I think the 6P won't sell out right away, especially due to the fact the 5X is being released at the same time, and the fact the N6 is still a strong, bigger device.
Does anyone remember the price of the N6 when it first came out? Wasn't it $599?

I got my N6 back in April, been a solid device but I think I've done all I could with it.
Then again, when the Marshmallow ROM's start coming out probably this weekend, I might not even want to get the 6P. There are a few things I need to see on the 6P before I just up and buy it...probably a hands on review of it first.
I'm not familiar with the manufacturer what so ever, which is another concern.

Probably not, but last year the nexus 6 had about a 10 second window to pre order it on launch day. They offered some more pre orders the couple weeks after, though.
If it's available on US carriers it'll probably push more people to wait.

True, but I mean that was going from a 5" decent Nexus device all the way to a new manufactured 6" with front facing speakers and AMOLED screen.
I doubt the "demand" is going to be there for the 6P later today.

Can anyone tell or guess when is the 2nd batch of Nexus 4 going to available?
Hope next time there is enough inventory to meet such a huge demand

Someone posted in the other thread that they called the play store and the lady on the other end told him to check back in 3 days...
Not sure we're going to get much surer than that.
Even if we do, I'd take it with a grain of salt.
I called last night at about 2AM EST and they told me the Nexus 4 would go on sale at 9AM PST.
Lo and behold, it was sold out by the time I got on and checked around 850AM PST.
:/
Google outed the order page at 830 AM PST, there was a timeframe of about 2 minutes before their servers got hit hard and flooded, I had my phone in cart 5 minutes after the page went live, and I couldnt complete the purchase for another half hr, before then it was errors and non responsive google wallet popups when trying to check out.

Same thing with me, I tried to purchase it at 11:40 EST time and it took a good 20 minutes before I could complete the order because of the google wallet errors.
Who knows, Google guy said they will be trying to get more stock "in the coming weeks".
You can never tell with paper launches...
I can see why they wouldn't do pre-orders with these stock levels though, there's no good way to handle tens of thousands of pre-orders if you are only getting a few hundred in stock. You could just ship according to order time (although they completely failed to do this with the N7) but then you might still have the problem of pre-orders waiting for weeks or months after shipping starts if stock is very limited.
LG is probably cranking out Optimus G's as fast as they can while having one or two people slowly assembling Nexus 4's in the corner....
Do you realize how everything you said is retarded?
You think they had a few hundred in stock?
You think LG is manufacturing more Optimus G than Nexus4?

Most people don't even know it exists, let alone were hammering the website to beat the rush. Tell me compared to iphone nuts how many people do you think were hammering Play store all night to buy them out so fast? I'll I doubt they even had a ten thousand for North America or a thousand for Canada. There's a reason Google will never release numbers. They could prove me wrong...
Somehow I suspect that the Bell's launch of the Optimus G here had as much or more stock as the Google had Nexus 4 in Canada.
Selling out in minutes when relatively few people were even trying to get one screams paper launch.

Seems consistent with my experience. I got in there within about 20 seconds of the page going up and just clicked through and completed the transaction - I was shocked that it actually worked. Obviously beating the news had a great deal to do with it (as did having wallet all set up).
I did notice the coming soon and in stock messages tended to go back and forth over the next 10-20 minutes. Maybe they had issues updating all their mirrors or something.
They should have set it up like:
no more than 2 phones per a google account. someone getting 10 orders of four phones is flat out wrong.
set up a que. you're assigned a number when you add the device to the cart and can make the purchase, using the rules above, when you're number is up.
seems pretty fair.

They really let people make multiple orders of several phones and suck up stock like that? What a mess.
Please people don't reward those jerks by buying the phones from them at inflated prices. Myself I hate buying 2nd-hand because you're asking for trouble if you need warranty service.

Kinda hurts the folks like us who just want one, or, two for a friend/gf/wife/husband/etc/whatever...
If there will be more in three days, which make is Friday, then I can wait.

I wonder if the stock is so limited that pre-orders would be an even bigger mess.
Doing it this way it will just be very hard to order one as stock trickles in. "OMG people it is flying off the shelves!"
With preorders it could be possible that it takes several weeks or even months to ship out all the preorders as stock comes in. In that case the rage and frustration would really boil over. "We are doing our best to fill orders *whimper*"

Preorders failed completely with the nexus 7 which is probably why they are trying something else. Unfortunately it still doesn't work.
At least with the 7 preorder you could actually place an order even though deliveries were then either delayed, sent to incorrect addresses or sent out last come first served.

[Q] When again

Anyone knows when our beloved N4 will be available again? Any official statement besides it is sold out? Surely I am not the only did not put my order through :crying:
rumor round up, Nov 15
1, some suggest to check in on Friday, confirmed by google + and some T Mo stores
2, google backorder mail suggests to give your F5 a 3-week vacation
3, email from google support says "soon" but do not know how soon
Nov 16
1, For those who want to order from Negri (http://negrielectronics.com/lg-e960-nexus-4-16gb-unlocked-black.html#.UKYW7IdQS3E), there is a coupon code you can use: 10offsite will take $10 off. Cheers!
2, reported by some threads: today several lucky ones were told that their phones are on the way as we speak, after receiving BO mail yesterday.
3, no word on when it will be available again for the rest of us...keep waiting
4, got a word from google support that the N4 will be in stock and the price will NOT be changed. This is to respond to some rumors saying play store will not sell it for a while, so the local electronic stores (not ebay) in different countries can gain some, because some will be forced to pay higher price. Certainly hope google keeps the promise to sell us N4 soon.
5, rumor has it that India will receive N4 on Nov 30. This might suggest when the 2nd wave comes!
Nov 18
New rumor: the 2nd batch comes in a few days!
Note again, it is just a rumor from a blog: Nexus 4…weeks away? “Days” according to Play Support
No one knows. Hell, we didn't even know when the thing went on sale yesterday. It was just a feeding frenzy!
No
No.
Edit: I managed to order a 16gb 1 minute after it became available here, but I really feel bad for you, man. On the bright side, early adopters are gonna get screwed with a lot of issues. Sorry, man. Hopefully it becomes available soon.
google play store plays us
maybe then we can just decide to sleep when we are tired and not to refresh the website any chance we get.
is this the official statement from google?

Why?
We have just some 4-5 weeks to go until the end of the year, so "in coming weeks" could easily mean "mid/end January".
Quite possible if you think, that industry is currently scrambling to produce enough stock for Christmas and will be mostly idling afterwards. So google could use it to produce more N4s.
I just hope there will be plenty of stock eventually instead of all this selling out nonsense.
I was online and had the opportunity to buy the 8GB version but i was confused, i looked at the 16GB version and still said "Coming Soon" so i thought it hadn't gone on sale yet, little did i realise it had already been and gone
So while i was waiting the 8GB version sold out too, gutted.
Might be reading too much into the Google+ Post but:
There’s been so much interest for the Nexus lineup that we’ve sold out of some of our initial stock in a few countries!

If they sell the second batch in mid-january, this means making everyone wait 2 months.
2 months is a lot, especially if you have no guarantee that in 2 months' time stocks will be enough for everybody.
The problem with phones is that they age very quickly, and the sooner people get them, the more they are likely to keep them.
I, to conclude, really hope that we will see a second sale next week. Even if stock is going to be, if possible, even lower, it doesn't matter: angry people will stay angry, but we will have some more "lucky ones" which will have a new phone.
But this is just my opinion.

I've heard everything from them coming out this Thursday/Friday, all the way up to in one more month.
Spoke to a CSR today and they -of course- cant give out any days because they don't even know. "Being a guesser" the CSR said, "i would guess that it [a new batch of Nexus 4's] could come out the 21 to the 23 of the month ,that way they would be ready for Black Friday" he kept going, "but then again, it could take them until December, that's just my opinion. It all depends what the marketing team wants to do."

We get anywhere near mid-end of Jan and im passing, you've nailed it with the "tech moves too fast".
No way this will be the best hardware on the market at that point, only selling point is its a Nexus, which despite me being a fan wont swey my decision.
Stret
I just want ask to google, why the hell are so many Nexus 4 being sold on ebay, if i can't buy one in playstore?????
I unfortunately missed being able to buy N4
I imagine Google will have more stock in before Christmas, or they would lose out on quite a bit of $$.
I've heard they are supposed to have more in by Friday 8am (GMT)(or midnight PST) however cannot confirm this.

Will the second batch of Nexus 4's sell out as quickly as the first batch did? I know we still have 2-3 weeks to wait until the second batch comes.
I very much doubt it. They got their "wow! nexus is so great it sold out in 20 minutes!!" PR. The next batch I bet will fulfil.

The way it sounds it seems like the majority of the second batch are gonna be used to fulfill the massive amount of back-orders that are pilling.
I hate how it's going to take 2-3 weeks because that means I have to continue using my G1. I wish it was 1 per customer because I'm seeing a trend of people who have purchased nexuses. Hopefully I'll be able to get one before that through T-Mobile...

This is just my guess, but with doing this online order starting at a certain time BS with the iPhone for years, yes, it will sell out fast. Or at least crash their site again, because what will happen is word will spread like wild fire on these sites and everyone will rush in to get one from round two. So in three weeks or so when Google opens ordering again, we'll see these same " damn, I couldn't get it ordered again" threads.
I sure hope I'm wrong and the next time things open up, we'll all get one....

I went up to T-Mobile today to ask them about it. The manager told me if you order one from their website you should have it by November 22nd. I wasn't planning on using my upgrade for it since it is so cheap off contract but now I am considering canceling my order (since I'm one of the back ordered people) and ordering one through T-Mobile for $150 cheaper...
to be honest I doubt next batch will sell out so fast.
People that didnt buy it the first time will either:
1. find alternative phone (here in UK you have nokia 920 with charging pad and some kind of headphones for £400 on PAYG)
2. will buy from phone carrier (for a bit extra)
This is people mentality, if something is popular or drives demand it will sell out straight away, those who didnt get it will do anything and everything to obtain it. Even if it means they have to pay extra premium on top of the retail price,
Both of those above factors will ease the demand for the phone, so I'm hoping I'll be able to order it in couple of weeks.
I bet they will be gone just as quick again. Will be January when stock is healthy.
But why the 3 week delay ? Did the Galaxy Nexus stock dry up completely last year, for a period of time ?

how long would it take to make a single phone seeing as they would have everything in the factory set-up to go.
My real worry would be if they have to go back one step and source all the parts first ,then it could be a long wait.If the factory is in full swing they must be able to make a few thousand a day surely
I would hope they could fill the back orders faster than the 3 weeks and then be on there way for new orders. Its not like they are making this from scratch the systems must be in place
anyway time will tell i suppose

That's what I'm saying but who knows how they really operate. I remember when the Wii first came out years back, it was years before you'd actually see one not sold in a store. More recently, when iPhone 4 was launched I stood inline at best buy at 4am, I did some recon the day before and a BB sales rep (at my local store) told me they only had 5 phones. I got one but its mind boggling when stores get so few of such a hot item. The N4 isn't really the same since they sold 1000's with in minutes but I hope they don't restock like apple and others do.

Yes, the second batch is supposed to be available in 2-3 weeks.
This is what I think will happen with the availability of the Nexus 4 after reading all of the posts:
Google will make sure to have MILLIONS of N4's in stock so they don't sell out again. Also, all the hype surrounding the Nexus 4 will die down. It's like that for every device. For example, whenever Crapple releases a new iCrap, they sell out very fast. After the initial excitement, the iCrap is much easier to get in the 2nd and 3rd batches. I think it will be similar but not exactly the same with the Nexus 4. Because of how many people were ordering N4's from the Play Store, the Play Store server crashed so many people who should be receiving first-batch Nexus 4's will not be getting it. The second batch of N4's is supposed to hit in around 2-3 weeks. While there will still be many people who will buy the device, there definitely won't be as many people as there were with the first batch. This is good for people who haven't bought their Nexus 4's yet. Google might also use some of the second batch to fulfill some of the pre-orders on the Nexus 4's that didn't go through. All in all, expect to be able to buy a Google Nexus 4 when it is available again.
Anyone else wondering what the numbers were for Google's initial stock were? I mean are we talking ten thousands, hundreds of thousands, or more?

Who's camping?

I'm really thinking I might at the very least camp it for an hour before my T-Mobile opens. I was told they only have 5 phones to sell and they didn't know if they were getting another shipment. I assume they are though, because why else would they delay the launch. If I can't get one, then it's not the end of the world.
So, what are your game plans? Anyone pitching a tent?
BTW, I went in and checked out the demo. First impressions were good, everything I had expected although I will say this: the midnight blue is the BIGGEST fingerprint magnet I've ever seen. The back of it looked like it had already seen three years of hard abuse. I'll def be putting a case or skin on it

I'm pretty confident in saying that you won't have to camp. Nobody outside of these forums even knows the phone is being released. I work in a dept of over 300 people with smartphones and not a single person has heard nor cares about the N6.
The are you going to buy it poll on the most frequented android forum in the world had a whopping 155 votes. People are acting like this phone isn't going to be available.

I tend to agree. I contemplated camping until I considered I might be the only one outside waiting. I might get there 20 minutes early though. Just in case. Even if they sell out the stock before I get a chance to buy one. I'm doubtful it will be on back order the first day. So odds are they'll be able to ship it in a couple days, hopefully.

I think it'll be win win. If I get one, awesome. If not then I'll get what I really want: 64gb white
My impression was waiting 4-5 hours before they open. Interesting that people in here are not to worry about it. Guess depends where you live. When I got my M7 on launch day in Bellevue, I went half an hour before they opened and was like 4th in line, and several people behind me. Going based on that.

For perspective, the Nexus 5 sold less than 5 million units since release. The Note 4 sold nearly that in a week. No matter how difficult Google makes it to get online, the phone will be widely available at the carriers. Nexus devices have never sold well, even at 299-399 dollars. I suspect the 650-700 dollar Nexus wont be flying out of the stores, either. If people want a Phablet, they'll just get a Note 4, its pretty much cornered the market on Phablets. I love the Nexus line, but I can count on one hand how many people I've ever seen in the wild with one since the Nexus one, and I live in NY.
At the earliest, I'll be there around 1 hour before release. Like others have said in the thread so far, this isn't a very popular release outside of the XDA forums. In fact, most Tmobile reps are clueless about the launch itself.

I agree. And on top of that, getting any consumer electronics item a few weeks before it becomes widely available isn't going to improve your life in any measurable way. By the way, I ordered through Motorola and am expecting delivery on November 26th. I think I can wait another 11 days.
Does camping around your phone that has two apps set up to alert you when it's available count? I will actually be working at T-Mo that day, I'm in training so don't go asking me questions b/c honestly I know as much as you all at this point. I'll get outta work around 2-3pm and maybe drive around to take ganders at it if I can.
I'll be camping at the website waiting to order a 64 GB one. Haha

Same and hopefully they allow us to do that at Midnight.
i seriously doubt camping is necessary. google did no large scale marketing at all, and stores typically get new devices in during a shipment midday (unless led by apple who can drive a SPECIFIC launch date world wide). heck, i sold 2 galaxy edges at my att store on the 13th even though we expected them to arrive on the 18th. so fingers crossed we get our nexus 6 before the expected arrival of 21st.

I'll probably be showing up right when they open at 9AM. I was at one of my local stores at 9AM for the Z3 release (returned it due to lack of group messaging support) and I was the only one there.

Should I wait to buy

I'm on the fence here. I remember back in the n5 days (i think) ppl complained about the wobbly power button but in later releases it was resolved. Everything I've read and seen looks promising but wondering if waiting til customer and site reviews such as mkbhd come out. I have a one plus 1 now and in the first release there were complaints about a yellowing at the bottom of the screen. Bought mine months later so I never had that problem. I'm leaning towards the 6p frost 64g… think it looks beautiful but just don't want to get a first release with problems that need fixing

I was in the same boat, you will have 15 days to decide after you get it and after that I'm sure if anything serious is wrong google will replace it.
Go for it with hands on to decide...

Wait 30 days at least. By then new batch is out + price dropped. Not worth buying android phones at release.

I bought the n5 the day it came out. And was 100% happy from day one ... No wobbly button or nothing. There is no better feeling than having the best thing before everyone else even knows it exist. I just bought a g4 in April and I'm getting a 6p. BUY IT!
I have just about every current Nexus device, except the 5 (did the LG G2&G3 thing for a bit), and I haven't had a problem with any of the devices or customer support from Google.
At the end of the day, can you get the help you need and/or can you return it? If yes, why not go for it?
If you want to play it safe, wait a month.
Only you can decide which you are comfortable doing.

Price drops after 30 days? Wow. Someone should have told Google they forgot that policy on the N6. They might have actually sold a few of them.

Oh okay. I don't buy used phones so I wouldn't know. Good deal for those who do.
I'm planning to wait.
I want to read reviews. I want to see how the 810 chipset in the phone performs (given its troubled history). I want to see how the camera does (many many phones have made big claims about new cameras, only to disappoint--and don't refer me to DxoMark's ranking of the 6P, their rankings are beyond bogus, just hype for the industry, like JD Powers). I also want to wait until I'm not caught up in the release hype so I don't make an impuslive decision (since I'm still not sure I want a phone this big and I'm disappointed there's no OIS). I'm hoping eventually there will be carrier availability so I can see one in the store first (and if not I won't have lost anything by waiting).
Further, Nexus phones, like all phones, have had a history of having problems (software and hardware) in the very first phones. There have even been minor hardware changes in later batches.
So I say, let other people be the guinea pigs. There is little to gain from induldging one's impatience.
Thanks all. I think for me waiting is a better bet. Still def want the nexus just want to see reviews saying its a great buy. Even still if Reviews are lackluster I know what to expect. Don't sites like androidpit, mkbhd etc get the phones before they are out to the public?

This is exactly why I've been holding off. I remember with the Nexus 5 there's this rattling issue. Got the phone minutes after it was released and unfortunately had it too but people who waited didn't. Hoping Oct 25th isn't to early to order though because I want that $50 google play credit.
This phone is so well priced, buying new is a no brainer. If $100 makes a difference to you then you are not in this phone Market.
Buying new isn't a problem. Just interested in customer and site reviews to see a in depth look at it

do you have any you can reference? i'm not aware of a single hardware change for any Nexus device since the 4. I think maybe the N1 had some changes, but the 5 and 6 (as far as I can recall) had 0 changes. everything was software based.
also, good luck to anyone thinking there's going to be any sort of a price drop on this phone. the 6 started high, so there was room to wiggle. yet i remember getting caught up in the hype of trying to acquire one, when everyone was sold out (i didn't).
the 5X/6P are the first TRUE cross-carrier models in the Nexus lineup. people have sworn that VZW would never see another Nexus device and here we are today. if you're worried about cost, i suggest the 5X. i'm mostly worried about Hauwei as a manufacturer than i am Nexus history. i'm expecting that everything everyone ever thought they knew about the Nexus brand went out the window with the 6 and i'm expecting the 5X/6P will prove that.
if there are going to be problems, it's going to be because of Android 6.0.

When I said this phone is so well priced it's a no brainer, I was referring to the starting price of $499, I should ahve been more clear about that. Even the 128GB version is only $650, so I'm not sure where you are getting $700?

I was thinking of the Nexus 4 when I wrote about hardware changes. Since I did not get the Nexus 5 or 6 I did not follow as closely what happened with them, so I don't know. They have also happened with some HTC phones in the past, to my knowledge. After a while some phones even getting upgrades, a memory option that wasn't there (though not really relevant for the 6P), even a newer chipset has happened (I know it's wishful thinking, but I have a fantasy that once the Snapdragon 820 hits the market the 6P will get an upgraded model) . So, though it may not be likely, hardware changes are not unheard of. I don't see the harm in waiting a couple months.
Also, there could be hardware issues that become apparent but do not get fixed. This has happened in the past with weird sounds in the earpiece, reception issues, noise cancellation defects (the Nexus 5 has a noise cancellation issue that was never fixed), etc. And of course, the Snapdragon 810 chipset has had a bad history of problems. Probably the 810 will be good enough in the 6P, but a lot of other manufacturers have claimed to solve its issues only to be proven wrong when their phones come out and get real world use. If the 810 in the 6P ends up being a overheating/throttling nightmare (which has a pretty good chance of happening given its poor track record in other phones, including even the new Xperia Z5 that was supposed to have found a solution) then I want to know that before I buy.
I don't think I said anything about there being a price drop, so I assume that was in response to someone else. Still, the price isn't going to go up, so there still is little harm in waiting and a lot more to be learned about the phone if one does wait. Plus you don't have to be the guinea pig for any hardware changes or (more likely) working out bugs in software. Early adopters are guinea pigs.
I decided to cancel my 6P order as well and wait. I've had this nexus 5 for two years and I am itching for a new device but a couple months this won't hurt me either.
I rather see it in person or at least see some in depth reviews on it and get the reviews from the general public as well. Also wait to see if the build quality is as it should be and if there are any first batch build issues that need to be worked out.
