Fire Tv / Stick - Work around Google Play Store without root - Fire TV General

Fire TV /Stick are good with Amazon's ecosystem but with this method you can add any app or game you want from the play store
This method was tested on Fire Tv Stick but it should work with any Fire Tv device.

Good tutorial but I didn't do any of that to install MOD EDIT - Removed? Thought you found a workaround to get Google Play Store working....MOD EDIT - Removed is a great alternative to the Play Store though.
thanks for the tutorial

You are welcome... It's true that if you don't need apps that ask for google services you can jute use MOD EDIT - Removed app, but that will limit your app selection to almost half of google play store

Thats true, a lot of apps at least need the Google Services. So even though you can get them from MOD EDIT - Removed they wouldn't work. Good point.

Hello inwisso,
Thanks for your Great tutorial and for the workaround to get the Google Play Store working on the Fire Phones !
However I have noticed that if I install the "Google Play Service" from the 3er link:
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...ices-8-1-14-2244331-030-android-apk-download/
Although the newest APPs from Google, like:
YouTube v10.37.58
Google-Drive v2.3.283.31.34
Are now working flawlessly, some streaming APPs stopped working, and also sometime the FireTV freezes and also Crashes...
Apparently the version of "Google Play Services" of the 3rd link, is affecting in some way the smooth work and the normal functionality of the FireTV units ... Use with caution !
So, I was forced to use only the 4 Google APPs from the 1st link, and I have decided not to update the "Google Play Service" to a newer version:
https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=73036323a69e3cf1&id=73036323A69E3CF1!1484&authkey=!AIVXLFXAOWDeM0Q
Does Anyone here has experienced the same strange behaviors on their FireTV, or has tested any of the following latest versions:
Google Play Store_5.9.12 Released September 15, 2015)
Google Play services_8.1.15 (Released September 15, 2015)
Google Play services 8.1.18 (Released September 26, 2015)

Thanks, if you guys find a better performing "google play services" version I can update the link.
Are you using fire tv or fire tv stick ?

Inwisso, I'll try to test various versions of the "Google Play Services" APP, and let you know what works best ...
However, as the new YouTube and Google-Drive APPs requires the latest version of "Google Play Services ", I doubt that these two are going to work.

For YouTube viewing there's always the "YouTube for Android TV" app.
Can't login, but it works well enough, I find v1.0.5.5 works best as the latest v1.1.16 crashes on the Fire TV Stick.
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/youtube-for-android-tv/youtube-1-0-5-5-android-apk-download/

As I said before, it is that apps like YouTube and Google Drive, that have been updated most recently, all need to run the latest version of "Google Play Service," but unfortunately when installed then affects others FireTV APPs, that worked well before.
Hopefully with the NEW upcoming FireOS -5 "Bellini", that will be released in October 5 to all the FireTV Models, and that is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop (API level 22), we could then have more compatibility with all newer APPs.
http://www.aftvnews.com/fire-os-5-with-alexa-coming-to-1st-gen-fire-tv-and-fire-tv-stick-in-october/
https://developer.amazon.com/public...re-tv/docs/device-and-platform-specifications
Who knows, maybe we could also install some new APPs Exclusive for Android-TV and launchers, as the "Android-TV Leanback Launcher":
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.leanbacklauncher
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...-launcher-1-1-2-1994870-android-apk-download/
So then we have to wait to October 5, to see what it is and how this FireOS-5 "Bellini" works.
I really hope Amazon has been able to do an excellent job with this new version of the FireOS-5, and that they will come with some new things and fixes !!

Thank you for the tutorial. I tried it but I can never get Google Play to connect.
This is my second stick. I returned my previous stick and got the Google Nexus.
I won this one and thought I would give it it a try. Maybe there was a patch between the posting and Dec 2nd.
I also had the stick lock up and had to unplug it and let it reboot.

Can someone who has Google Play store working on Fire TV/Stick confirm if Vudu app works or not?
Thanks!

Would this work on fire tv 2?

Yes I have similar issues. I have Fire TV BOX and I just side load connecting the box to my PC over Ethernet. No problems there I can get the files over.
The problem is that some programs work fine with Google Chrome to browse the web which is really cool...
but.....
On a lot of apps like "Vice" / Viceland TV, it boots up then says something like "your version of Google Play Services is not compatible please uninstall it" So anyway I can get the latest Google Play Services .apk but look there are 28 VARIANTS! http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-services/google-play-services-9-8-77-release/
How do I know which variant I have on my FireTV BOX of Android that the Amazon front end is running on?
Is there just a simple Google Play Store and Google Play Services I can download once and it will auto-update?
Thanks

I have tried with no success installing Google Play services and Google Play store on my FireTV BOX.
FireTV BOX version Fire OS 5.2.1.1 and I have no problem getting the apk's to my device by side-loading over Ethernet using adbLink and adbLink works find for all other app, so it must be either I need to be rooted or I have the wrong Google Play Store and Google Play Service .apk's
Can anyone help me one this with my FireTV BOX version to get Google Play Services and Google Play store on my device so I can run apps which require Google Play Services?
Thanks

I wonder have any of you ever thought to disable the "Not In My Home" (com.amazon.tv.nimh.apk) service? I gather it's a fairly new (Firmware 5.2.1.1), thing. In case you haven't worked out what this does it basically blocks (from Amazon's POV), unwanted Apps.
Now I'll confess to not having bothered to do my Homework in this, myself. There seems to be little hope that this is the one thing keeping Google Play Services, and by proxy the PlayStore off the Fire TV2, but I haven't seen anything that dismisses it either.
But, the idea that One could in theory, at least side load the Leanback Frameworks onto such a Device, has at least given me some hope that I might be able to get it working on some Chinese Box. One of these days.
I suppose, a better question to ask here, considering I still a noob to this AFTV2 Box; Would be did either of Google's Services / PlayStore, even ever work on the AFTV2?

someone has managed to fix it? i had an apk called mega tv player runing perfect until yesterday that my fire stick was factory reseted by mistake, now i can't load the app or any other apk that ask for google play services.

MOD EDIT - Removed has older apks of apps if you need them (currently a reliable site, but don't blame me once they start distributing rootkits.. ) - also, there are at least two methods out there to patch play service dependencies "out of" apps I know of.
Google and find out.

Google Play store stopped working after Google Play Services v7.3.29 update

Per subject title, Google Play store stopped working after Google Play Services v7.3.29 update
Anyone else seeing this ?
I also had problems with Google Play Services 3.29. Not only did it not work, but it messed up all apps that used location services. Another weird thing was that when I would reboot that after a minute the blue light on the front would start pulsing for around five minutes then stop. To fix this all you have to do is install 7.0.99. I tried downloadin 7.0.99 from the web and it always got parse errors so I just transfed it for my cell. 7.0.99 is the latest version that works properly on the Fire TV. All versions after 7.0.99 did not work correctly for me. I am just gonna keep Google Services updated with the same update from my cell, cause that seems to work for me.
How do you stop v7.0.99 from automatically update to v7.3.29 ?
I uninstalled v7.3.29 and install v7.0.99, it works for a while then auto upgrade it back to v7.3.29. I have auto update disabled and that doesn't seem to be able to stop it
So I uninstalled Google Play Services v7.3.29 and DID NOT replace it any previous version AND
My Play store started working again. I rebooted a few times to make sure it is no fluke and the Play store still works
so the workaround for me is to remove Google Play Services entirely from FireTV

I do not use the Play Store, cause I am not rooted, but I never auto update any apps on any droid device. I actually use 1Mobile Market, Aptoide and Mobogenie to keep as updated n my Fire TV, but I update apps one at a time. They all say I need to update Google Play Services, but I choose not to udate and it doesn't update. You are gonna need to have Play Servics installd or apps like Gmail will no longer work. The lates Gmail requires that you have 7.0.99+ instlled or it will not work.

Works for me, but now "Market Helper" won't work without the Google Framework. I don't know if that matters.

For me, Market Helper seemed to change what version of the YouTube app was available. (Tablet vs Android TV). However, the Android TV version updated at a certain point and did not want to cooperate as nicely. Needed to downgrade that one.
Off topic but I have been trying to get the playstore installed on my rooted aftv. Have tried several methods including renaming the files with no spaces. Everything seems to install fine but when I try to login under existing I get error that my email or password is incorrect and new login just goes back to choosing existing or new account page
Delete.

So I deleted Google Play Services and that did work, however some of my apps wouldn't work without it installed. So I re-installed Google Play Services and figured out how to keep it from updating.
First thing I did was:
go into the AFTV Settings (the one it came with)
go to APPLICATIONS, then APP STORE, and turn click on AUTOMATIC UPDATES so it says OFF.
(I don't know if that's only for Amazon's Appstore, but it's part of what I did.)
Then, open Google Play and:
Tap the hamburger icon (three horizontal lines) on the top-left.
Tap Settings.
Tap Auto-update apps.
To disable automatic app updates, select Do not auto-update apps.
So far, Google Play Services has not updated!! I can post the Settings.apk and Google Play Services v7.3.29.apk if anyone needs it.

Yes. That would be helpful if youd post V7.3.29 Thanks
So I checked the AFTV today, and it looks like it did update.
However, my Google Play Store IS working!!
I just realized in my post that I said I would post v7.3.29, which is in fact the updated version. I can give you the same exact one that's on my system if you want to see if that works for you.

I already posted that 7.0.99 is the newest version that works with the fire TV. Any version with a higher version number does not work correctly. 7.3.29, causes problems with apps that use location services and causes the light on the front to start pulsing about a minute after each reboot. My guess is that some of the versions with version numbers higgher than 7.0.99 are made for devices that have much different specs than the Fire TV therefore they do not work as they should. I have tried every version from 7.0.99 on and 7.0.99 is the only version that functions as it should. I got my 7.0.99 version from my Galaxy Note and transfered it to my Fire TV and it works perfectly. Maybe people should check their phone or tablet and see which version of Google Play Services they are running, if its 7.0.99, transfer it to your Fire TV and it should be fine, but do not update past 7.0.99 or it will not function correctly. 7.0.99 and 7.3.29 are actually the same version of Google Play Services, but since Google Play Services is device specific they have different version numbers. 7.0.99 and 7.3.29 are the latest versions of Google play Service for the specific devices they are made for. There are several apps that do this, and a good example is Facebook, depending on the device you have the latest version of Facebook will have a different version number from device to device, cause hardware is different and apps are made differently depending on hardware. To see what I mean just go to the actual Play Store on your browser and look at Google Play Services and it will say latest version followed by saying varies by device, and it says the same for most apps in the play store.

Thanks for the update. I am not sure why the APKMirror apk did not work for you. Make sure you download the version ending in "036" (the 3 numbers at the end of the file name after the dash). Quoting:
To figure out the right version of Google Play services for your Android device look at the last 3 numbers in the parentheses. You'll see something like -XYZ where:
X defines Android version:
0 for Android <5.0
4 and 7 for Android >=5.0
8 for Android TV
Y defines CPU architecture:
1 for armeabi
3 for armeabi-v7a

7 for x86
Z defines DPI:
0 for universal
2 for 160
4 for 240

I am running FireOS 4.5.3 on Fire HDX 7" and it is not (and never has been) rooted.

I have the file manager with zip support installed.
Uninstall any versions of the 5 apks mentioned below.
Download this zip file:

Open or extract it and install the apks in this order:

framework 4.0.4
play services 7.3.29
playstore 4.3.10
youtube 10.16.53
Reboot the tablet.
Go to youtube and you should get that normal google account login screen.
Login and presto! There you have it latest youtube apk with sign in ability.
Hasn't crashed on me (yet), but play store does not work (I've tried a few versions).
Yes I am aware of that youtube app with the blue icon in the amazon app store but I wasn't satisfied with it.
I haven't tried any other google apps yet with this combo.
I really hope this works for others. I just spent the last 5-6 hours figuring this out and it's now nearly 2am.
works for me
Youtube works.
Not for playstore gmail.
Oh that's cool I'm glad it's worked for others.
I just wanted to give something back to this forum cause I've gone to it so many times myself.
Found a gmail apk that works

Chrome should work regardless of framework (at least it did last time I tried). If not try Opera. Same underlying engine (Chromium) with a different skin.

Is it just me, or does doing this break other apps? Skype won't work properly (no contacts or message history), TuneIn radio won't even get past the initial screen. Why is this happening? Sorry I'm new to this stuff.
I should add that uninstalling these packages then causes everything to work again, so it does seem to be causing it.

Installing Google framework/services/store/etc on Fire OS is always a crap shoot as Amazon has its own set of conflicting services. Many get it to work (at least partially) while others experience problems. Installing framework/services on an unrooted device presents additional challenges....but also adds a layer of safety as you can typically install/experiment/uninstall without serious consequences. Unfortunately, I don't have an answer to your current situation; responding to "why is this happening?". You'll probably get it to work eventually with help from others.
That makes sense. I did manage to get Skype 5.1 working but anything after that breaks. Must have added a new feature since then that gets into that services conflict you mention. No luck with TuneIn, though I found an alternative for that.

If your family is looking for unfettered access to the play store you should definitely look for another device. It will be awhile before alternative roms become available to newer Kindles and most play store implementations are hacks at best. While the hardware is wonderful you really have to be wed to the Amazon ecosystem to truly appreciate the device (or be fortunate enough to have an 'older' model that can be rooted/unlocked and run a Google friendly rom).

I appreciate the frank reply. I was able to set her up with Chrome and Gmail which were her main concerns. The 1Mobile 3rd party marketplace had any of the other apps she was looking for. I also finished moving all her books over so she's going to take it for a spin this weekend when we head to the beach for a night and see how it goes.

If you are comfortable with 1moble (one of my favorite 'alternative' marketplaces) then many of the shortcomings inherent with the Amazon store can be mitigated. Chrome (more often Gmail) can get fussy without google services/framework. Opera is a nice alternative that utilizes the same core engine as Chrome. Gmail is a little tougher to directly emulate; plenty of alternatives if the Gmail app coughs up a fur ball (I happen to like Aquamail). You really don't need root but if you choose to do so Xposed framework adds a few nice touches that can further tame an HDX without compromising native functionality.
Hope it works out for you folks.
You can run Google services framework without root. People have been having issues with the newer builds however. If it does not work for you, try build version 7.0.99.

That will work for now (thanks @lekofraggle for the tip) but be aware Google is quickly adapting apps to leverage capabilities introduced in newer builds of services framework. For now that appears confined to Maps and Google Now (eg: card features) and primarly targets Lollipop.
You are welcome. I know about the impending issue with Google play services. Hopefully they fix the issues soon. Google maps works for now but complains.

[ROOT] Play Store works for a short while, then is disabled by its self-update

Mod edit:
Content removed, Lucky Patcher is considered warez and therefore isn't allowed to be discussed on XDA.

But the key for solving this is to prevent the Google Play Store from self-updating, and perhaps Google Play Services too.

Play services 7.0.9.6 supports the current play store, so you can make play services (7.0.9.6) immutable and play store will work after it updates. After getting gps 7.0.9.6 set, see if play store opens okay. If it doesn't, first reboot and try again. If it still doesn't open, uninstall the play store and install v. 5.4.10. Let that version update, then reboot. May take a couple tries.
OK, that said, you may need framework 4.4.4 to support gps 7.0.9.6. I'm no expert; only know what's worked for me for a month on KFSOWI with same problem.
I am unclear why everyone is using old gapps. Can you tell me?
Last thought: If there is an underlying conflict between Fire OS4 and the last gps, all fixes are temp workarounds until someone figures out the real problem or (maybe) until the next gps or Fire OS update "fixes" it.

Thank you for your comments, they got me going in the right direction, I've updated most of the gapps to the latest, and disabled auto-updates, please see the edit to the 1st post.
I'll try this when I get home from work tomorrow
What version of play services are you using 034 or 070 or a totally different one?
Confirmed working on my HD 7!
Thank you for the excellent write up. BTW I used APK mirror (.com) to get Google Play store 5.5.12 and Google Play services (7.0.99).

If somebody cares to repackage the 4 apk mentioned as a convenient zip, please do so.

Annnnnnnd it is force closing again even with nothing upgrading.... ::sigh:: back to the drawing board....
EDIT: solved I think you can just get root, put the 4 google APK files from system\app to the system\priv-app folder, create the dummy update DIR's, restart and bingo!

Google Play Games Application - Amazon Fire HD 10 (2019)

Hi,
I'm hoping someone has figured this out as its driving me crazy !
I've followed the instructions to put the google apks on via the android police website, install play store amazon fire tablet article (can't link to it as it's my first post !)
Everything initially seems to be ok, signed into google and can access and download apps from the Play store.
When I download the Google Play Games app it runs ok but switching to the Profile tab doesn't show me any profile information and all I get is the busy icon spinning constantly.
Does anyone know how to solve this ? I think this has a knock-on effect of games not working that require a google games profile.
This is on a brand new 2019 Amazon Fire HD 10.
Thanks in advance

That's the problem, your Fire tablet have registered with Amazon account.
Reset your Fire tablet and bypass Amazon account registration. Do not register.
Install Google services and remove all Amazon junk:

Hi , thanks for replying.
How do you bypass Amazon account registering/logon ? I thought it forced you to have an account.
I've used the toolbox before but only after I have signed in. are you suggesting I can somehow get to the home screen without logging in or registering and then use toolbox ?

SuperDisplay - App closes after opening - FireTV Cube

Hey,
i recently bought SuperDisplay and wanted to use it with my firetv but it's not working like it supposed 2. After sideloading and starting it just opens up and closes immediatly. What am i missing here? the Play store? is it even possible to install the playstore to the Fire TV Cube 2nd and if yes without root?
thanks in advance
Is no one able to help me out?
I don't know if its a paid app is not, but most of the apps on the play store rely on the Google Play Services which aren't available on FireTV.
It could be that its not compatible with the android version or display size.
It could also that the file is in splits, which some of the newer ones are, and you are pulling the base only and not the splits, which will DEFINITELY crash the app.
In any of the cases you have to provide the logcat. But my guess is the last one
