In short, it's still Awesome to me!
The best thing is; there's so many stable ROMs to try, I don't think much of 2013 device has any development going now at all. So yeah I'm pretty satisfied.

I think it is a good phone today, but at this time i can say that only if i have stock debloated rom or cm11, lp roms have too much problems and freezes to use it as daily driver for a long time.
Btw i suggest you to try every single rom on this phone if you are getting to it now

Try CM11 by Bagyusz [v150826] if you haven't yet.
It's the smoothest 4.4.4 ROM I've ever used!

I have never even flashed phone than the SP.
The only reason i still have it, i like the colour lights.
Soooo sloww, android 6 rom fixed it but maybe too late?

I still regret buying it. It has been a disappointment for me from the beginning and has given me so much frustration. Honestly I think this phone actually made my life incredibly hard at the worst moments as if it could sense it. If I would have had a good working stable phone, I think I would have been happier the last two years. I'm not kidding and not exaggerating. I really mean this. So I'm very glad that I'm buying a new phone soon... I just have to figure out which one... But when I have one I'll be throwing this ****ty stupid thing against a wall, kick it a few times and throw it in a fire. I've literally had blue knuckles from hitting this phone hoping it was going to do what I wanted it to do. I even flashed and unlocked it and everything which I don't even want and like to do. And then somehow all roms slow down within a week even without installing anything other than whatsapp which seems to work fine for on phones of my friends. So I might even leave android and go for the new Lumia 950. Anyway, never a Sony again because I'm still blaming them for not giving us a stable stock rom and kitkat. I'm done with them, I'm done with this phone and I might be done with android.
So yeah... that is basically the rage this phone has given me.
edit: usually I'm a really, really calm and patient guy... really... but this phone got under my skin so many times, I can stand some amount of lag, but not this amount. I'm traumatised for life.

could you just try this :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-sp/general/lagfree-want-lagfree-4-days-battery-t3245164

Sometimes I don't like how it lags.
But it's cool to use custom Roms on it.
I have it since 2013, but I want to buy a new one, lag free.

as long as i get new ROMS to try .. i love xsp

using one right now, rooted but with JB 4.3 and stock ROM. it gave me quite a headache at first due to some lag/freezing issues. was able to resolve those issues after deleting the built-in Facebook app.

I love it. It might not be the best phone but I love it. It can easily cover my needs ( mainly lots of video streaming) and I recently went back to stock 4.1.2 (from a 5.1.1 rom) that I've modded on my own. I just can't find something really bad to say about this phone. I'll keep using it as my daily driver until it can't cover my needs.

I have been using mine for 2 years and it is still a really good phone, yes it sometimes very occasionally gets the yellow fading and the memory management could be a bit better but in general it does everything you can ever need. Recently I have been a bit a bored though as I have had no justification to get a new phone So just started playing with the lollipop roms. Definitely given it a new lease of life!

Well i have this phone for a little more than 2 years i fell in love with it's compact design and of course the unique illumination bar,
it's still like day one on the outside, i bought it because my Neo V had dropped of my pocket and went to heaven.
But after 2 years i really got bored with,i didn't have many lags maybe because i don't use it more than average but the worst was that the keyboard kept disappearing and it didn't show up.
With XSP i am doing my first steps at heavy modding flashing etc,i remember those day that i was super happy cause i did made it to change the menu icons in my K800i and i was showing of at school ,anyway,i am afraid to get it bricked but i read tons of pages with one purpose the goal for me with custom roms is to find the battery drain, and the stability (ok ... sort of) of the original version, hopefully.
I definitely won't regret buying it, it worth's it's money, i comfortable keeping it even more, and i am still angry with Sony for not getting 4.4kk .
Peace !

I have it since last 2 years. Sold it last month to try Xperia M5, returned M5 (Because its a horrible phone) and re bought my SP with loss of 10 pounds
Best feature Notification LED and yup Gaming on XSP >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> M5

very laggy phone, would not recommend it to anyone

No One To Share Joy With But XDA...

It's crazy. The phone is great, it's what I've wanted for years. I got it just today and besides having to get used to the on-screen keyboard I must say it is the best phone I have ever used.
The Rhodium, in retrospect, was a clunky machine, and one of the best windows had to offer. This late in the game though, just an antiquated OS. I am so happy to be done with a Windows.
Why the thread?
Do you, geeks that we are, find no one in your immediate circle who understands?
I got home and am soooo satisfied win my decision, no longer having to tinker and be OCD, I know, not very geeky. Just I think I have been spending a bit to much time modifying and not enjoying my phone. I also didn't want be in he hands of Steve and the fruit phone.
Any similar stories...
Mine stopped vibrating after 5 seconds, apart from that great phone.
Quick tip: Setup haptic feedback on the keyboard if you haven't already. It truly makes a touchscreen keyboard 5x easier to use/learn.
I'm basing my opinion on haptic with the N1 vs. non-haptic w/ my iTouch. It's nice to have "something" that tells you that you just pressed something.
Also, learn to use the auto-correct. Especially holding down new words/names that it normally "tries" to auto-correct. (Such as "app(s), Haha, and various others that the phone tries to correct to really odd words) (Haha, will default to BAHAMAS!!!... WTF?)
Just thought I'd try to be useful
I know exactly what you mean... I got a TyTN II and the first thing I did was flash a custom ROM so it would actually be useable... then, after about 6 months, I found out I could run Android on it... really well! After a couple months of looking at it, I finally took the plunge to see what Android was all about, not thinking I would be blown away, especially considering I was running it on a WM device.
What did I discover? Android ran better on my Kaiser than WM did! I was hooked, and a couple months later got myself a G1 to replace the Kaiser... The G1 still had some issues, IMO, in terms of speed and found myself still flashing customer ROMs, but it wasn't out of total neccesity at least.. and now, I have a Nexus One, which is hands down the best phone I have ever experienced! I don't even feel like it is needed to put a custom ROM on it, I have and will again, but the stock experience is more than fulfilling!
Mate, I get the exact same feeling.. No one really "gets" me when it comes to this phone.
It's just a phone they say, what does it do that your HTC Diamond doesn't? Seriously.. the only thing I can come up with, is it has a flash.. But we know it's so much more than that, don't we?
I've already been told by a few people; "oh don't buy googles first phone, it'll have lots of bugs, you should wait till the second release." Little do they know nor understand.
First moment I got my Diamond I flashed it because it had too much carrier crap on it. Who wants everything to be customized by someone else.. Seriously..
*Eagerly awaiting my new shiny phone*
I was quite surprised by no real bugs to be seen or heard of myself. I was wary of the purchase, but easily the best one I ever decided upon.
I'm still trying to see if the great developer folks figure out a re-lock... But every day I'm considering rooting... Ugh!
I can connect to my home PC (Edit: from anywhere with 3G) and mouse and keyboard around on it using the Remote RDP program for Android. I find this impresses people fairly well.
I'm fine with using Gmote for free to pull any music/video to my phone... Still haven't hopped onto the paid apps bandwagon yet. Still working my way through the free apps, to get a grasp on what I like, and don't like.
But, it would be nice to have even more control remotely. I'm just staying in minimal-mode for a bit.
I'm surrounded by iPhone and BB users, most of which are completely, utterly technologically illiterate--I'm talking about people who don't even understand processor speeds/RAM size, so they can't even appreciate how fast the Snapdragon is. People who aren't users of either want one. "Android" is like Greek to them.
I do know a few geeky people, but they're rare around here. :/

I did the exact same thing man. I had the first gen iPhone for about a month, hated it. Then got the AT&T tilt, and flashed a custom rom on it. I worked at T-Mobile, and my co-workers would say, I should just go work for at&t lol, then I finally got the G1 a week before launch and fell in love with android. Its the best OS I could have asked for and knew it would be a winner. Then up until 2 days ago, I finally received the nexus one and WOW, it is so much faster, i'm still shocked. I haven't rooted or installed a new rom because I don't think it needs it. It runs great stock. Awesome phone, that I think only us xda nerds know how to appreciate. It really a great device upgrade for those of us who had stuck with the G1 for so long.
Nice feedback
I made a thread saying why I moved in the Rhodium forum and should have known better. I just wanted to share. They are letting me have it.
But it is so true, this device is a great medium. Customizable, elegant, powerful, what more could we ask for(lets further he Convo)?
Glad you guys love it. I'm looking forward to getting one for my wifey while I get the HD2.
Well then she can hang with the best and you can hang with the rest
I tend to explain the phone as "a netbook with a phone feature that fits in you hand." The specs truly are that of a netbook.

No question... the N1 is the best phone I've had.
Love my G1 and still use it but my N1 is my dress to impress phone...
Agreed.
Noone has a clue enough to appreciate it.
Unlike the iPhone it doesnt have a hype machine to make people desire it.
For selfish reasons I dont want too many people having them. Id prefer everyone knowing about and wanting one..but few actually having it.

I see everyone drooling over the Nexus One all 'round.
But when it comes to their next phone, most of the techno-illiterati

And that, in my book, is as it should be

New Galaxy S keep it or return it?

Hi everyone. I recently bought a Galaxy S (Bell Vibrant) for my wife, she saw it and really liked and i was pretty familiar with the specs and all that and all the good reviews so i jumped in and got it. Now since she has it (4 days) the phone has turned itself off for no reason twice and has also frozen a couple of times with one of them being when i was showing it to an apple fanboy (embarrassed). But anyway now my wife isnt very happy with it because she says it feels very light and cheap and she thinks it would break very easy and also complains about it turning off. Today she saw the icrap 4 in the store and she liked it and now she wants that . She says it feel that it wont break easy and its stylish . Now i dont like the iphone at all and i really dont want to return the SGS and get that but i want whats best for my wife. I just read so much on this forum about all the problems people have with this phone turning off, freezing, lag, screen problems, gps, touch buttons, bad audio quality and a few more... I wonder on the screen i dont know if it will last a year before it starts tint issues burn ins and so on. Now i want to know do you guys think this phone would last at least a year two and do you think all this stuff will be sorted out or should i get her the icrap 4. I really dont like that iphone but it seems suitable for my wife as all she wants is somthing that works takes decent pictures and looks good. Please let me know what you guys think as this is really pita.
Sorry for the long and confusing post..
you keep the SGS and get her the "iwantwhateverybodywantsphone"
SGS is not for the normal person
SGS is for people with computer knowledge and linux understanding and windows haters
SGS is a amazing phone if you know how to use it, and keep it clean, the same techniques used in windows works the same in Android, and it does wonderful stuff
ironically in windows those solutions never last, in Android you do it once, and it remains forever set.
no GPS problem, no lag, no lag fix, no freeze, no turning off on its own, it works perfectly on JH2
your description of the phone "turning off" could be either a battery problem, or the phone ran out of memory due all the background apps no closing off and releasing the memory back
Shes got her mind set on the Iphone4, get it and live happy. If not she'll be whinning about it til contract is up or divorce (which ever is faster)

Yes i know how it is with Android as i am pretty familiar with it. I have a X10 myself and i love it to bits, i dont think im ready to switch it for an SGS. However i am not doubting the software of the SGS but the hardware, my main concern is the screen, i see a lot of people here that have problems with it so my concern is durabilty and lifespan i also see a lot of people on here who sent their phone for repair numerous times and that scares me. Now my wife is not set on the iphone as she is not a big fan of apple herself and shes heard me ***** about how bad and limited it is all the time but she just wants a reliable smartphone that she can depend on and not have it crap out by itself for no reason. She likes the SGS but she also likes the design of the crap 4 and she asked me if that would be more stable and not give problems. I told her that i am waiting on a update (froyo) and all the bugs will be probably fixed. Anyway like i stated before its the hardware thats is troubling me. Do you guys think it will last, more specifically the screen. Also can you recommend me wich firmware to use and wich lagfix? as i see there is a few out there, or should i wait for the official froyo release? Thank you for all your help, i really apreciate it.

Haha yes that is true. But the wife doesnt really care about the iphone and she is not set for it completly or somthing. She just said she likes the design lol. And if it would work better to get her that. So i am pretty unfamiliar with Samsung phones thats why im doubting it. I know all previous samsungs were crappy and buggy as hell and with weird menus etc.. So now we have the SGS wich is the first phone that i actually like from Samsung but i still have my doubts thats why i am asking you guys.

Wow....
I'm sorry but some of your posts are ridiculous.
"SGS is for windows haters and people with Linux undersanding"?
WTF
I'm sure the Bell rep makes you fill out a pre-requisite form before you take away a SGS to make sure you have Linux knowledge and hate windows... Thats how they are marketing the phone too...??
This phone is being marketed to the main stream.
And as far as JH2 being perfect. Guess what? When my SGS died I had already updated it to JH2. I got it back from repair on Friday, its JH2 still, and it has turned off on its own twice now. Fresh from being wiped and repaired. Just browsing these forums and seeing all the people with the same issues JH2 or otherwise is a clear indication that there are some serious issues with this phone. Oh, and my co-worker who picked one up after me has now had to send his in for repair as it died. Its his first smart phone, with all of 5 apps installed, so don't try to blame it on hacking or rooting.
You're apologetic fanboy like posts are getting tiring to be honest.
/rant
As for the original poster. Take it back and get your wife an iPhone 4 if thats what she wants. Apple fan boys drive me nuts too, I know, after my SGS died on me I have never heard the end of it..
Well i definitely see where you are coming from and understand your lack of interest on the SGS
but i'm coming from a total 180, and this is the perfect phone, everything came out as planned, from spec, to speed, to software, to features, to funtionality, to well you name it, everything works the way i expected it to work out of the box
way better than windows devices
i've been through a lot of smartphones before, and nothing comes close to the SGS, all previous "smartphones" were nothing but disasters and let downs
just the same way you think about the SGS i think about the HTC devices and the Blackberries, and the Treo600.
However the Treo650 was quite decent, albeit slow online but it was way better than its predecessor in every other aspect.
I still prefer PalmOS over Windows
put either Android or Palm OS on any device with good spec better than SGS and I'm all over it.
right now at this point in time the SGS is the creme of the crop, the supremacy, the top of the top
Looking forward to next years contenders

Hey there, I bought the i9000 on recommendation from two friends that were both iPhone users that switched to nexus ones and never looked back. I have been a blackberry user for about 7 years and gone through (destroyed) most of them. This is my first smartphone and i was looking for something with minimal buttons (to break) and a good screen and good battery life. I didn't realize i was also going to end up with a mini super computer! Lagfix not only solved all lag issues, it now performs like a pack of rabid monkeys... on a touch sensitive leash. I have had no issues with the screen, rebooting, or any other hardware related problems. Any issues were related to my inexperience with android which is how i found this place. Just be careful... so while i can't give you any further information about the hardware, I have to warn you that there is a lot of information about rooting Vibrants that doesn't apply to the i9000 even though they are relatively identical, most importantly the recovery hotkey combination.
Anyway, I'm getting off topic. My i9000 is rooted with MCR Script lagfix, GPS fix, and SetCPU on Performance. Its lightning quick, bloody bright, and about 1000x more than I ever could have hoped for out of a smartphone.

I am on my second Bell i9000m GXY S. Me and my girlfriend bought one just over a month ago.
Mine suddenly died. I had done many flashes and other such things on it, but that wasn`t the cause. The cause was a bad MoviNand chip. Samsungs chip that runs the phone. Before I even modified the phone I was having Force closes. Random reboots and other errors. Having to do battery pulls to get your brand new $600+ phone to work is ridiculous.
I came to Android from Blackberry. Being an apple hater I had no other real choice in my market.
My second Galaxy S (replacement under warranty) came in today. Before I touched anything root it had 2 force closes. It froze once so far under heavy use.
My girlfriends is completely stock and after a couple weeks has random reboots, and other errors similar to mine. I fear her phone will go the same as my first (and likely second) did.
I love the phone but the i9000m seems very buggy and unreliable. I can`t use it for an alarm because 1 out of 20 times it will freeze in the middle of the night. Hers too; which is stock.
It seems to be more of a problem with the Bell variants of the phone, as I see other bell users with the same problems more often then American customers.
I would really wait to make any permanent impressions on the phone until Samsung releasestheir Froyo FW update and possibly fixes the bigger problems with the i9000m.
So I wouldnt push you one way or the other, but be prepared to take that galaxy s off your woman`s hands and buy her a crapple. I may be taking my girlfriends and getting her a Desire HD or whatever HTC releases next in my market. HTC for my friends seems to be rock solid. Again thats just my view and I am probably inaccurate since I don`t own an HTC.
If samsung doesn`t fix the GPS bug (which I have run into on both our phones--- one stock and mine on several roms) and the crashing (stock) on the next couple of updates I will not be buying Samsung again, but will be sticking with Android. I have tried to use the GPS in 3 provinces and 4 states and its really accurate for me less then half the time.

Say what? Froyo isn't released yet. Nothing is forgotten before you actually have an officially released product on your phone. Stop being a retard and don't pollute threads with problems about inofficial firmwares. 3g is not entirely perfect on the released firmwares, but it's definetely there.

I have the Sgs from the begin and any problem... no freeze, Reboots, I thing that people thing froyo will solvent all problems, but this kind of issues are caused for a defective hardware, no software... then maybe should contact samsung to replace the mobile.

and disable all the apps that you don't need to be running in the background all the time
it doesn't matter how "smart" are the smartphones now in days, it's still a freaking computer, if it's not optimized, it will just go crazy
i don't even have a task killer installed, as it's not necessary, as long as you maintain the list of apps you allow it to run in the background then the rest is smooth sail.
i9000m stock JH2, no lag fix, the only fix installed is the SMS time fix

I have tried to use the GPS in 3 provinces and 4 states and its really accurate for me less then half the time.

X10 is a stylish phone, its heavy and looks durable. So why not try to switch (assuming she doesn't mind using your "old phone" .. , and you two are on the same network / phones are unlocked)
Being a sgs owner I would recommend you to return it, it has too many issue straight out of the box. This phone requires alot attention, fixes, patient and time. It does have the potential to better then any mobile out there at this time but only if you posses the aforementioned qualities.
My advice get her desire HD or desire, she will appreciate it more then an iphone.
HTC Desire is really popular within the UK even amongst the women because it is easy to use and is works brilliantly out of the box.

As everyone more or less said:
- install the lagfix!
A) if you're technically inclined, flash the rom to something stable and tested by many (yet unofficial and "beta"): JM8 + voodoo b4 (it's in the dev forum)
B) if you're not, get one click lag fix from the market, it doesn't get any simpler! follow the program instructions, and be done with it
Let her play with it for a while with lagfix.
About the hardware quality, i got a i9000 (not i9000m), there's many different SGS and even with the same design might come from different factories etc etc.
Mine is extremely strong even being plastic, i'm very happy about that so far.
Also it's thin and light and has a big screen.
The iPhone4 has a smaller screen, and its a lot heavier than the SGS.
Additionally, you need to add a cover (bumper, case, etc) around the phone to alleviate antenna issues (granted you don't _need_ but it's very highly recommended), so you lose all the neat design factor.
After exposing her these arguments and showing up the lagfixed phone, let her decide. If she wants the iPhone4 (or Desire HD or what not), then just go for it and ebay the SGS many will buy it.

Woooooowwww....the VIBRANT is really an awesome phone!!!

When I first got this phone I was happy initially but wasn't all that satisfied with its bugs, lag and wack GPS. I don't know exactly what bugs you may have encountered but mine on 2.1 went as follows
- Some live wallpapers caused my phone to crash and reboot if I tried to set it. One of them (Pano-planet) always forced closed on me
- I couldn't play Fruit Ninja's and Flick Kick Field Goal because half the time I tried to, it would crash my phone.
- Ever since the update to make the google maps have that 3d came out, every single time I launched the app it would crash my phone.
- Lag, Lag and more lag
- My gallery app when launched always crashed on me
- When on the phone and I'd get another call on the other line, my screen would stay black for like 5-7 sec before it showed me who was trying to call me
- Battery life sucked.
Despite all of these issues, I got used to them and patiently waited for the Froyo update. Finally it came out and from what I've read, its a total mixed bag. A lot of people on hear said it wasn't worth it. So I personally was disappointed and didnt want to get the official update, afraid it may make my phone worse. Until I found out about custom roms. I'm a total noob but did research on custom roms and long story short flashed my phone to the Bionix-V by teamwhiskey. I should've done this a loooooooooooooong time ago. Not only is every bug that I mentioned fixed, but something that I thought was a hardware issue apparently isn't. The GPS on my phone is the best its ever been since I got the Vibrant. And the battery life on this phone is beautiful.
For the first time since I've had the phone, it functions and runs the way I expected it to run when I got it. I was thinking about getting another phone that I thought would be supported better but changed my mind cuz my work runs so well now. It functions so well, that I'm afraid to try out other roms because I don't want to mess up things. Which brings me to my next point.....SAMSUNG!! Its soooooooooooo sad that they have a line of phones that are capable of running so well get backed up/supported or lack thereof with TERRIBLE software. Thats like Sony backing and putting ps2 like quality games out on the ps3....makes no sense.
Anyway for those of you who are still running 2.1 software and are on the fence about which way to go (official or custom), take it from a noob like myself, who a week ago didn't know nothing about flashing a phone and custom this and that. FLASH FLASH FLASH....SCREW THE OFFICIAL UPDATE. ONCE YOU FLASH YOU WON'T GO BACK.
same here, once I got fed up with the waiting and the bugs, I rooted, then eventually popped a custom ROM on my phone and it has been great seeing how well the phone can work with proper software
I love the developers here. It's amazing what they can do, especially considering samsung doesn't really seem to care.

This is a great phone and when the Vibrant 4G comes out we will be able to kite off what we need from them to make this phone even better
I just switched from an at&t x10 to the vibrant. Couldn't be more happier, i'm in love with this device!
Was hesitant to root for a while. Had a rooted G1 and loved it but I figured I would just let this one pan out. The T-Mobile OTA bricked my phone... So after learning how to use ODIN I decided to root it and see what I could get going on this and wow what a difference it has been. Still on Nero V3 and my phone runs smooth as butter. Amazing development community around here.
i'm new to this phone and someone recomend me to buy it. this rly is a surprise for me all this android stuff and the devs here are rly cool. i love my vibrant phone, won't change it even for an apple 4.
Ever since upgrading to stock 2.2 this phone has been the epitome of unreliable. It's like a pretty bad winmo phone running an android skin. Have to soft reset it (hole power down) like 5 times a day because the screen doesn't turn on. Pretty bad because you can think the phone is fine when you're really missing phone calls emails and notifications. Have tried factory reset switch batteries etc. Nothing works. It worked fine before the update but right now this phone is utterly unreliable and robust is not a term to describe it...

This is true. When the 2.2 official update came out I reverted back to stock so that I could update and see how well Samsung did. When I did, I saw the horrible ****tiness everywhere... slow and unstable... only had it running for 10 minutes before I just went back to custom software
It surprises me how Samsung ****ed up the official Froyo update when all the leaks we've been getting for our ROMs have been stable and acceptably fast.
Right now I'm using Bionix-v 1.2 and Dragon kernel 3.2 (a well optimized Voodoo-supported kernel that allows a maximum overclock of 1.4 Ghz and many more improvements!!)
im using bionix-v 1.2 by team whiskey myself and can't wait for stable froyo 2.2.1. im especially excited for voodoo sound that will bring our phones the highest quality sound output through headphones (thanks supercurio) and will soon be available to us without sacrificing battery life. i truly appreciate all the efforts devs here put into all these things.
anyone who hasn't been around here for long, please think twice before asking questions in dev threads.. i started flashing just about a month ago, flashed a number of kernels, roms, modems, custom frameworks, etc., and never had to ask a single question and never had any troubles just by researching, reading op and following instructions prior to flashing anything to get a sense of whatever i was doing. i understand a noob doesn't mean to be a noob. but seriously if you try, you can avoid getting problems unless there really is a bug. good questions encourage devs for sure, but a majority of noob questions don't and make serious devs leave us. i just really hope the devs who are working day and night trying to bring us good stuff without any rewards stick around and continue to produce quality creations as we've seen so far as long as my vibrant is still working and usable.. im so thankful.

Honestly it didn't surprise me one bit. Samsung probably made an exceptionally buggy release on purpose, part of their way of trying to shut people up and convince us that they weren't ready. I gave up on samsung support a long time ago and probably wont get another phone until the N2 comes out (I'm through with manufacturer support).
I switched to custom roms after 1 month of having this phone and i have to say i absolutely love it. I personally favor Master's roms. But all in all the devs here are absolutely amazing. They allow this phone to reach its potential in ways samsung never did. I'm excited to see what comes out of Eugene's source kernel.
Thank god for all the devs who do all this stuff for free.

Samsung software engineers dont know what they are doing. Period.
it is a good phone...the Bionix upgrade definitely made my phone run better but it gives me some slight problems on the vibrant that i have to work out
I had a Behold 2 and upgraded to the vibrant a month ago. I told my sister she have 10 minutes to play with the stock rom before I dismantle the POS rom and rooted it. 10 MINUTES guys!! that's how long the stock rom lived on my phone. i never even consider running stock.. currently running Eugene froyo 2.2 final r2 build with gingerbread theme.
I had a battery life hiccup for a bit. The A2SD caused the sd card mount to get hot and burns battery life. So i took all apps off SD and into internal storage and i'm now back to 24+ hours battery life.

It's funny because I said the same thing when I came from G1. "This time i'm gonna wait before I root". I ended up rooting it 3 hours later. Lol.
And yes as much as we ***** and complain about this phone, it's still a wonderful device. It's still 2nd best in terms of raw CPU/GPU power, with the best now being dual core tegras.

[Q] Getting bored of Android.. Should I get the One?

So guys, I really love Android and have been using it for three years now since Galaxy S, after that I got a Galaxy S II and now own a Galaxy Note II... and Android has evolved beyond my imaginations throughout this whole period... I love Android and I can't believe I am saying this but I think I am getting bored of it.. A year ago I would've laughed at that and recommended the thousands of ROMs and launchers available in Android that change up your experience drastically...
I have flashed almost every ROM that is available for every device that I have owned, MIUI, CM, PA, SlimJB, SlimICS, ARHD, Omega, WanamLite, CarbonROM, HyperDroid, Liquid Smooth, AOKP, Hellybean, and so so so much more. In fact 1 year ago, I would've been considered a flashaholic as I was changing my ROM every week I loved doing it and so I did... I never honestly thought it was possible to get bored of Android but two weeks after getting the Note II (4 months ago) I got bored of it...
I have also tried almost every launcher out there, ADW Launcher, Launcher Pro, Apex, Nova, Next, Action, SPB Shell 3D, TSF, Chameleon, TouchWiz, and many more, I have also used a ton of widgets and watched tutorials on YouTube on how to customize many other widgets..
I know many people buy phones as tools and to get things done but I get phones because they're a hobby and exciting, and I like to keep things exciting which I can't make my Android phone to be anymore, not that anything is wrong with it, but because I think 3 years is enough to try out everything there is about it... iOS would get boring in under 3 months tops..
So my main question is, is the HTC One different enough (Sense) to be exciting to buy for me, considering I have only ever owned Samsung smartphones, maybe HTC Android phones are different and may provide an exciting experience? I know there are many people here like me who have been using Android for a long time and may be able to relate to this and this question is directed at them.... only other OSs I can buy is a BB or a WP8, neither of which I have ever owned.
Go too a local shop and play with the One for some time. Consider yourself if that experience is on another level than you have right now with your note ii

sense is deffinetly a ui appart from others.
so far i only owned htc devices and sense sure is a beauty but also verry tight.
the only modding i can think of is start skinning it youreself to keep the overall experience intresting or maybe learn to cook.
also in htc devices since the s-on(security) its a little bit more stepps needed to flash something wich set me back on my flashing rate(used to flash every day o.0)
not sure how the blinkfeed is as im still waiting for my pre order to be deliverd but the things like stereo speakers and htc zoe pulled me over to order a htc again(i wanted to leave because the s-on stuff)
all in all flashing is still able to be done with a few steps and if you never experienced sense its deffinetly worth trying it once.
as for youre other devices try buzz launcher, you can interchange homescreens with other users wich is verry easy and lets you have a different home screen every day

Good point, but the thing Is that I thought that the Note II was a radical change with its completely redesigned Nature UX (when I used it in a store) which I hadn't used on my SII but two weeks later and I was bored.

Yeah but isn't using Sense like installing a different ROM? And after some time I am sure I will change the launcher to something I have already used and wouldn't I then be bored once again? And I did think about cooking stuff up myself but I am knee deep into my A Levels and don't have a lot of time to burn..
My guess is that you will get bored of almost anything so assume same for the HTC One.

So you're recommending a different OS?
buy it and dont histate, i have all the iphones which really boring, nothing intersting they all look the same with little to nothing changes, and the windows phone is not as popular or appealing yet, you will like it.
I get bored with Android from time to time as well. I took a month+ break with the Lumia 920 and a 2 week break with the BB Z10.
In both cases I loved the change and something new but I still got bored and came back because at least with Android you have Roms/Tweaks/etc. to help with boredom, once you play with all the differences in WP8/BB10 and the newness wears off you end up even more bored than you were.
That said, if you use your phone for more "phone" and less "ROM Flashing", I highly recommend you give WP8/BB10 a try. They are both amazing and fluid. (At least go in to a store and check them out)

I actually find the WP8 platform very appealing not as good as android in terms of features but it looks fantastic in terms of interface.
Since you can't make your own decisions, I flipped a coin and it says it's time you move on to other platform.

Extremely helpful response (not that others weren't)... Thank you very much...
And I used to use my phone for ROM Flashing but now I just want to use my phone as is...
You have obviously moved beyond phones as the experience is pretty well the same whatever you get - all confined to a thing you hold in your hand powered by a battery and running similar software with similar features.
Time to get your kicks elsewhere. Have you tried sky diving? I am not a sky diver myself but I am told there is never a dull moment.

No, you will get bored with every OS if you are bored with Android, because nothing is as customizable as Android. Try iOS for a week and you'll fall asleep (not to say iOS isn't good, but for someone like you, you'd never last).

Yep. Coming from an iphone this is absolutely true. Stick to Android mate unless you got the money to experiment with other phones. You will end up going back to the good old droid.

Very beautiful response.. thank you
and I can definitely see how you're right.. an OS couldn't be as customizable as Android and I would probably get bored of other OSs so much faster...
I got the same feeling with Android, since hd2 I'm with HTC and finally after using one x for almost 1 year, I felt bored and gave a thought of getting iPhone for the first time as I was very impressed with its build quality. So, used my friend's iPhone 5 for 1 day and I got the feeling that I've nothing to do with this.
Finally after seeing the One with its refreshed Sense version, I am waiting for it to be available in my country.
I find that iOS is best for iPad for entertainment. But for a phone Android with sense is best for me, as I can't use Android without Sense. Used WP7 on HD2 and I'm not interested in it anymore. These are just my feelings, no offence.

I got tired of flashing roms myself and was seriously considering win phone. But once I've seen it and used it, decided to go with android.
Good thing with droid is that you can make it look like windows phone or iPhone or anything else but not other way around. Start using your phone for a change and stop experimenting with different roms at least for a while. And you will eventually kick out of that mood and start flashing again. Maybe at slower pace.

Time to Upgrade...

Well, about that time again. Had my ATT S4 for a year, and I had good and bad to say about it..
Hated not being able to get a bootloader unlock for it, being stuck on Touchwiz for a very long time gets irritating..
I have had a long list of phones since android came to fruition. I started with the G1 and never looked back. Hated apple and all they stood for and never wanted an iPhone, like most of us.
But its time for an upgrade and unfortunately AT&T doesn't have much to offer at this point in time. Just about the only phone worth getting with android has to be this phone right here, the G3. Ive never owned a LG phone, stuck with HTC until they burned the bridge, had the S4, and now I'm here.
My question, I suppose, is should I just get another android.. or maybe try that iPhone that everyone and their cousin has? I can't imagine going from android to Crapple.. but maybe it's a good change for a year? I hear mixed reviews about the LG OS, and it doesn't look too too unflattering. But it doesn't make me excited to get the phone, even with the fantastic hardware.
Can anyone here who has had the phone long enough to actually get used to daily life with it keep me grounded in the world of Android?
How is the battery life with the 3000mAh battery? How does the phone respond with the LG OS? How does the camera fare?
Irk.. I so don't want an iPhone but I don't want to be stuck in the same position I was with the S4, on a crap OS with nowhere to go, frustrated with myself for getting what I thought was a fantastic phone. I just want to be happy with my next phone. Cause Samsung effed that one up my last go round.
Cheers....

You're asking a bunch of questions that can all be answered with the many, many threads around here and by doing your own research.
I guess I'm just looking for one answer:
Do you think you'd be happier with another flagship device?
I'm reading through all the threads, but it's the usual, bickering and sifting through it all for one or two good posts..

Instead of crying answer his questions. He obviously did some research.
Anyways @OP
The phone is pretty good. The battery life will be better than the s4. The performance will be much better than the s4. The design is awesome.
The LG UI is very nice. Its simple and erogomic and does not look childish. It is also more functional with allot let bloat and gimmics. The phone feels really nice. The display is beyond sharp. Impossible to spot a pixel. The brightness is very good and the best part is that you get a 5.5 inch screen in a phone sized simarly to the S4. Its awesome. I had samsung for 4 years, will never look back. Its a nice new experience. Plus you get 3gb ram and 32gb storage standard. [emoji41]

Thank you for your response. I'm leaning toward the G3. Might hold my tongue for a week or two, so if I like it I can keep it, or return it in time to get the new iPhone on September 9th..
Or I might love the phone. Hoping I do. :good:

I personally love it. I too came from the S4 to the G3. The battery life is beyond anything I could of imagined (given I am rooted and have made cpu tweaks and removed AT&T bloat along with lg apps I'd never use). Bootloader unlock for this phone is looking very promising so hopefully that'll come soon (although an exploit has been shown that could possibly work on the S4 so I'd keep that one around for awhile longer if I were you). I didn't like the LG launcher at all so I switched to nova but then again I always use nova even if I'm on CM or AOKP. I made the switch to this phone purely for the specs not expecting to like the large size or anything else about it that much but I do love it. It won me over. Build quality, camera, screen res, battery life, again didn't expect to like it anywhere near as much as I do. I'd even go as far as saying I don't need bootloader unlock as I'm getting so much of what I want and need with stock firmware. One last word; don't switch to iphone. You won't like it, and you'll quickly notice its not even remotely capable of doing what you're used to easily doing on your android devices. For me iphones are nothing more than your pc desktop full of shortcut icons to apps that you feel are mostly useless. These are all my opinions of course and I don't treat them as facts nor do I expect anyone else to. And everyone's experience with their device is their own. Hope this helps you out on your decision.
Ps once Android L releases this phone is gonna be beyond what it is now and if/when we get bootloader unlock custom ROMs based off L are really gonna shine (especially CM).

Thank you for your response. I'm leaning toward the G3. Might hold my tongue for a week or two, so if I like it I can keep it, or return it in time to get the new iPhone on September 9th..
Or I might love the phone. Hoping I do. :good:

I think you will regret getting an iphone after having an Android phone. It will feel a bit locked down. Like someone put you in a cage.

I personally love it. I too came from the S4 to the G3. The battery life is beyond anything I could of imagined (given I am rooted and have made cpu tweaks and removed AT&T bloat along with lg apps I'd never use). Glad I could help. I'm gonna see if this weekend I have some time to put a thread together listing everything I've modded to get the performance that I get as well as what I've don't to try and squeeze as much battery life as possible so definitely look for that.
