hey guys. check my stats and tell me what you think please: faster discharge than charge....even worse if i dont regulate my cpu to 800mhz durimg gaming...tab doesnt even get too hot so where does all the energy go?
the first image shows one percent takes 1.30min to deplete so i get 150min overall when playing games. also 40% discharge per hour so 2-3x as fast depletion as when browsing or writing with spen. and that even thouh cpu max is 800mhz!
My guess is, there is something wrong with the KitKat firmwares we have. Maybe that's why they haven't released it in most countries.
tried draining it completely last night... started around 8 with the process, 8.30 it was supposedly empty. after that around 15 reboots still possible, 2 hours screen time in download mode and about 20 minutes left to play around with it. battery kept jumping to 3-7% on reboot and then drained again. so lots of juice was still in there.. will see how it does now, that a complete drain was performed

Save your time. Draining and complete discharging is an old trend with batteries, made with older technology. Modern batteries are totally useless to drain, it only calibrates the device. Which can be done by Battery Calibration app.
Save the time and try to calibrate it. Requires root.
I've had this problem for months (strangely I feel like it only became a problem a few months after I bought the device). I've heard some people say it's a motherboard issue and they sent it in to Samsung for repair. Others have said don't waste your time.
As for me, I just grin and bear it... and know that if I play a game I'll need to charge it soon after.

I rooted it so samsung will tell me tough luck but it is my own fault i guess... damn this is not the way I imagined it going...

I have the exactly the same problem.. I have tried one of the battery calibrating apps from the play store. Also I have now done a factory reset and also booted into recovery mode and deleted all cache. Then I have done another factory rest within recovery mode. So far seems much better. Hoping that it is fixed.
If not I am going to blast Samsung. I spent the £500 on this tablet and i expect more. Thought this was a premium product. See what happens but I notice there is only a 6 month warranty on the battery so Samsung may try and wash there hands of the situation. Does everyone have this issue who is using kit Kat?
See what happens but we may need collectively 'fight' Samsung if this is a hardware issue. I would encourage people to post there issues here just in case.
Have you noticed when you get to 0% battery life, if you reboot it will probably jump upto 30%? The calibration is well and truly stuffed!
FYI, I just got this tablet this past Sunday and it comes with KitKat. Spend sometime turning off some bloatware from the Application Manager. No root yet for Wifi without KNOX tripping, so I can't disable any other apps. Played around with the tablet a little bit and the battery life is not good.
Stats:

So it's Samsung and/or KitKat. I can't even tell what caused Android OS to keep the CPU awake for so long. With this, I assume playing game will reduce the battery even more.

Most likely because you've got location on, and apps constantly requesting your current location.
Location/GPS is the mother of all battery drains especially if you haven't got a consistent lock on GPS satellites

My thought is that if I am connected to wifi, the tablet will use network based location service and not GPS.
I also have GPS ON all the time on my Note 3and it didn't cause this much CPU awake. Both the Note 3and Note 10 ate connected to the same wifi network.

Just to clarify when you say GPS, do you mean location services? Thought you meant the GPS was actually active.
Edit: location services work a bit differently going from jellybean to kitKat

Have you got the same apps running on both devices? And same location reporting settings for any apps that use it?
How many charges have you been through? Some times when installing new ROMs Android OS does come up as using a lot of battery, not sure if that applies to a fresh stock tablet though

Can't tell much from the stats you've provided.
I'm no expert but I don't think limiting the cpu in anyway let alone so severely will help, most likely make things worse.
Games are normally more GPU intensive than CPU and it's not the frequency that determines power consumption it's the voltage.
800mhz would require less voltage to be stable but if your just limiting frequency, your voltages might still be going up when more resources are requested.
What Rom and kernel are you using?

I meant GPS as in BOTH the GPS hardware and the location-based network. Sorry for the confusion, but my Note 3 show "GPS" while my Note 10.1 show "Location".
Anyho, both devices have both GPS hardware and location-based network turned ON. Correct me if I am wrong, but if the device couldn't find GPS signal, it'll just revert to the location-based network. I think it doesn't make sense for the OS to use both at the same time as it will create a conflict on the accuracy of the location.
For the Note 3, it use stock ROM but rooted. It is on 4.3 and I have installed many apps.
For the Note 10.1, it use stock ROM and not rooted. It is on 4.4.2 and brand new, no 3rd party apps installed at all. I only setup Google account for email and calendar. No Google Now. Disabled bloatware from "Application Manager".
With the Note 10.1, something must have changed in 4.4.2. I will try to turn off GPS and location-based network completely and see what happen.

I had the same problem with my Note 10.1 2014. Send it to Samsung for repair and they said it was the battery. Got it yesterday and after a full night to charge to 100% it only gave me 3 hours and 40 min of use. I used to have 8 to 10 h of use. It's Kit Kat, I'm sure. It's really crap. I used to love it before the update now I just hate it.

Wait, did you have the awake problem like mine? Also, did you meant 8 hours of screen on time?
As shown in my first post, I have 1.5 hours of screen on time and with the awake problem, I still have 68% left.

Yup, that's what I have. I am going to turn off GPS and Wifi-based location completely (from the dropdown menu, press the "Location" button) and see what happen. The tablet is charging now, but I will post update soon.
Did you do a factory reset after updating?
I know Samsung says it's not neccessary, but it still is highly recommended.
I too have stock 4.4.2 (factory reset, than rooted) and nothing else, didn't even bother to debloat it yet. I will play around with it today and report back.
Edit: surfing drains about 10% in 1 hour. Have not tried gaming yet.
I thought i'd give some of my personal experience:
I just installed a game called DeProfundis Requiem (a 3D, diablo 2 like game) and had some serious battery draining at first.
The other day I played maybe 1 hour and my battery dropped to 15%. 3 minutes later (or so) it dropped to 5%... I rebooted, and the battery showed around 29%. Tried to play again and that only lasted 5 minutes and then the tablet turned off.
Since then, things seem to have stabilized. I now can play that game for over 2-3 hours, with quite a bit of battery left. What I did notice is that if the tablet got hot (on the right back side), then the battery drains quite fast. In the contrary if I'm indoors with AC, the battery seem to last much longer.
I think this has to do with the tablet overheating and therefore draining the battery faster. Maybe something you can try is that as soon as the device start feeling a bit hot, turn it off for 10mn, and try again.
I hope this can be useful to some of you.

Just a quick update:
I hard reset my tablet (remember, it's brand new), which already have 4.4.2. Configured Google account, disabled bloatware, turned off GPS, turned ON Wifi and installed Zinio for a test.
Left the tablet overnight, use it very slightly. Check out the battery drain caused by Android OS... It's definitely some sort of bloatware or 4.4.2...
Not familiar with the battery app you've got, pretty confusing bunch of numbers there! Better battery stats is one of the best battery monitoring apps and gives you concise wake lock info.....it may require root now though, can't remember.
Your Android OS is always going to consume a higher percentage of your battery if you don't actually use the tablet. 86% after 12 hrs off the juice ain't to bad?

It's GSAM Battery, quote popular in XDA. BBS require root, which I dont have yet.
Since this tablet is brand new out of the box, I conclude it's Android OS / one of Samsung bloatware causing the drain. Not much I can do til I root the tablet, but I am waiting for one that is not tripping KNOX.
What is the typical battery life / performance for Galaxy Note 4 users on this board? And what is the typical life advertised by Samsung, and featured in reviews?
I get about 13-15 hours, with 3 hours screentime on my Korean Note 4 (sm-n910k). But I thought I'd seen reviews boasting near two day usage...six-ten hours screentime.
What is going on then for me? I am BITTERLY disappointed with battery performance: The attached screenshot shows my typical day. Is this normal for you too?
In this screenshot example no calls made during the day, no GPS usage, and almost no apps beyond Gmail and Twitter. I have just a handful of additional apps installed, but the phone does however appear loaded with bloatware.
I took the device to Samsung Service Center in Seoul on the weekend (for a second time) and showed them the problem. It drained 5% from 15 mins of screentime right in front of the engineer.
After resets and reboots engineer said this was normal and that all tests showed the phone to be normal.
Or is it only normal for the Korean variant, but NOT for the international variant?
Help much appreciated!

I got both the SM-N910K an the SM-N910C at home, mostly because at first my 910K did not want to enable 4G in my country no matter what (even though it was supposed to be supported) So when we got the local 910c i got one too. It turned out that after a firmware update, my 910K started working in LTE in Brazil normally, i dont know why. But what shocked me was the terrible battery life of the K in comparison to the C. SO i swapped their batteries to see if it was a battery issue but the C kept maintaining amazing battery life. So I rooted the K, replaced the rom with a custom N910S rom that i found online (it works just fine because they are identical) and begun deleting crap that i knew was unneeded because my C didn´t have it and while i am still running some tests it would seem that the battery life of the K has been improving. There are a ton of bundled crap inside the firmware, even the custom one...so hang on to your K, once a decent custom rom comes out of it, it will be a lot better. Mind you, i also compared them a bit and the screen on the K seems better than the C when it comes to color fidelity (the C is a bit warmer), and going thru benchmarks, the K always pulls ahead by a bit. It´s almost as if it was clocked a wee bit higher. Keep digging!

12-15hrs autonomy, 5h30 to 6h of screen on time. 50% WiFi, 50% HSPA+.
Disappointed a bit because I expected an improvement over Note 3 and it's not the case at all.
OP, something is wrong there try a factory reset or a custom ROM. Root and install a wakelock detector to figure out what's happening

A few things bothered me about the device: the battery would take forever to charge, even using a Qualcomm certified quick charger, and the battery would drain abnormally fast. Even with no apps running, Antutu would only score 40,000 to 50,000 and 800/2500 in Geekbench.
I found out that the T-Mobile MyAccount app was always running in the background and took up 6% of my phone's battery, just above android OS. After I disabled that app, I found that a full charge would only take about an hour, versus the 2 hours it took before. Battery life also skyrocketed from about 8 hours to 14+. Antutu scores went up to 60,000 to 67,000 (I tested several times) and Geekbench now consistently scores 1200/3500 for me. The phone also doesn't get NEARLY as hot as it used to.
One other thing I did was to change all my accounts in the hub to sync every 15 minutes instead of push, which also seemed to help with the battery life. Hope this info helps you turn your Priv into the best phone it can be!

I heard that some people on Blackberry forums were reporting that T-Mobile My Account app could/is causing battery drainage. I didn't like my account app showing me notifications and went to options in that app and remove all the check marks from the there. I had no issues with battery, but as a precaution I always disable apps that I never use.
Thanks for the heads-up. Finally picked one up today and felt that it did indeed heat up quicker than it should and definitely wasn't charging as fast as I thought it should be. Hopefully this helps!
My Priv's battery has been an utter nightmare - gonna give this a shot. Have you noticed any adverse effects from disabling the app? My main concern is if BingeOn will still work. I'm okay with not being able to disable it (not a big video guy) but free music streaming is super important to me - streaming music at work constantly during an 8hr shift, in the car during my commute... yeah, I need that.
And, before anyone says anything, it's not the music streaming doing it. In fact, the battery seems almost better when I'm doing that since I've just got the phone sitting in my pocket. Wakelocks are an absolute nuisance though - "awake" time is well over 10x SoT.

BingeOn doesn't require any T-Mobile bloat to run. It's handled on the network side, not on the device itself. Also, unless they recently changed something, you don't need BingeOn enabled to get free music streaming. Music streaming is free regardless.
Thanks for that. So far the Priv is doing a fine job keeping itself alive now that app is gone. Nice to know I won't be blowing past my data allowance. I'm new to T-Mobile and so far, so good. Well, other than their app destroying my phone of course.

You'll get all that bloat with any carrier
I do want to point out that the Priv does an awesome job of standby. It makes sense that a 2K screen could drain the battery quickly, but I've gone 9 hours with only 40% drain when I barely use it, so it stays alive well when you aren't actively using it. I was also streaming music the whole time, but since the screen itself was off it saved my battery.

Yep, that's been my experience. On for ~16 hours with 3hrs SoT. Not bad, really. I wouldn't mind a little more longevity but hey, that's what power banks are for.
Here's my own battery experience. I only removed the t-mobile apps and using Facebook on chrome and not the app. I'm a moderate user 2.5 hrs of on screen time!

The screen is a killer on this device, but it shouldn't be quite that bad. Are all your BlackBerry apps up to date? Some people have to manually check for updates for some reason.
Also, I disabled every T-Mobile app except visual voicemail. No idea if that'll help or not but it's worth a shot.
Finally, how long have you had the device? Phones always seem screwy battery-life wise during the first few days, regardless of system health.
I disabled all bloatware, this phone dies WAYYYYY to fast compare to my prior note 5.
I really dont, but i'll need to trade back in this phone if I don't get this solved. A man needs a phone with a battery!

How about this one for a little bit over 2 weeks and so far it's been phenomenal for me 1 degrees in love with a good battery life is I disabled Facebook and I just use the web to look at Facebook so that save my battery by at least 20%.

Other than battery life, how are you liking the switch? I like but don't love my note 5. I hadn't had a note since the original version, but I'm finding again that I just don't use the spen. I'm thinking about jumping back into a blackberry with keyboard.

I'll take back what I previously wrote, as of yesterday I managed to get 24 hours on phone battery. at standby this phone doesn't use any sort of battery, I killed 20 percent in 40 mins on youtube though..
Going to give it a solid week, if not i'll return it and hopefully pick up the new s7 if release by then. I was on the same boat as you, got tired of the note and just wanted a switch. I'll keep checking back leaving my reviews here

I'll second this - screen off, next to zero battery used. Screen on, battery tanks like crazy. I think I'm gonna stick with it though I'm tempted to give the V10 a shot - I need a tough phone and this most certainly is not.
Hello everyone!
So I have been having these battery issues since April security patch. the phone gets really warm to the touch even by doing the simplest of things like browsing and watching youtube. Android OS keeps the phone awake 80% of the time and I am only getting 2-3 hours of use throughout the day. Restored the phone to factory settings(fresh start, nothing restored) three days ago and still the same issue. Android OS drains the battery life even though I made sure that only google apps are installed on the phone.
But today things got even weirder. I disabled Google Now and location services as a test and the battery drain and heat issues were gone temporarily. I was getting a great battery performance from morning to afternoon. I check my battery stats and I notice that Google services mysteriously drained 17% of my battery life and that it's been running for 21 days straight? That's impossible since I just did a fresh reset to the phone three days ago. I rebooted the phone and that "Google services" drain changed to WiFi instead?! That's crazy!
I contacted Google store support team and they have been really helpful so far. They offered to replace the phone with a refurbished unit, but I don't think I am ready to give up on this phone just yet.

I was getting a great battery performance from morning to afternoon. I check my battery stats and I notice that Google services mysteriously drained 17% of my battery life and that it's been running for 21 days straight? That's impossible since I just did a fresh reset to the phone three days ago. I rebooted the phone and that "Google services" drain changed to WiFi instead?! That's crazy!
I contacted Google store support team and they have been really helpful so far. They offered to replace the phone with a refurbished unit, but I don't think I am ready to give up on this phone just yet.

I hate to recommend this, but sometimes things go out of wack after a SW update, so a hard reset would probably be needed. I would try that (just start from zero) before jumping into a refurbished phone that might have some other kind of issues. Have you tried a hard reset yet? I see that you did a fresh reset. Did you go through the recovery though? Not just the regular UI. I think it's better to clear cache, and every thing through the recovery (custom or stock).

I did it through recovery. I have cleared the cache and rebooted the phone several times the past few days. Nothing seems to help at all.
Turn off your google backup.

Wow. Maybe a custom ROM might help? Have you tried that? That's the last thing I would do. Good luck!
Not recommended but I just flashed January vendor and ROM and that has helped my battery life. I. Believe it is the security updates that kill our battery.

Is it a widespread issue? Like I said in my post, I saw the decline ever since I got the April security update. The May patch actually managed to make things worse. There seems to be something hidden in the OS that it's draining the battery and causing the awake issues. I haven't tried rooting the device because I lack the experience to do so. I will probably look into it on these forums, but at this point I have tried everything.
Disabling Google now helped a lot and it exposed some sort of a glitch with the stock battery monitoring app. I am not sure if it's hardware or software, but it's certainly not normal. I am tempted to just replace it, but I am afraid that this issue will just plague the new one from Google. I am really disappointed How Google handles updates on this device. I always thought that stock android is most stable version of android, but the software on my old Xperia Z is actually more stable than this. It never had battery drain issues and standby battery life was always great. The battery life on Nexus 6P is actually worse than the Xperia Z even though that phone is 3 years old.

I've seen a lot of posts over the months with people having the same problem we are. I came from a mid range LG stylo with a snapdragon 610. I would have 8 hours screen on time daily. Its sad that goggle cant get the same out of their own hardware. Also I have seen that the Note 5 and S7 Edge both get better battery life as opposed to our stock phones. For as much as people praise stock and look down on Touchwiz, they are doing something right over there.
But it doesn't affect everyone and that what puzzles me. Only certain phones are hit by these issues, while other people are getting excellent battery life. I have seen plenty of people post screenshots of 6 hours+ of on screen time. I am lucky to get 3 hours. I think Google should really invest in creating a better power management system into Android. Companies like Sony and Samsung built their own and the battery life on their devices always perform predictably relative to what I am seeing on this phone. I have never witnessed The doze feature kick in since I have bought this phone. Sony had stamina mode since 2013 and it actually worked.

Most of those people posting those outrageous number root and do kernel tweaks. I've gotten at most 6 hours SOT on stock without root. You are right our phones do all react differently to certain circumstances. I don't know if it's feasible to you ,but you should try rooting and trying out a few Roms some help others don't. If you aren't into Roms and decide to root try earlier vendors and stock roms and see it those work. I'm not an expert by any means just my suggestions.

Well, the fact that you are having great battery life proves my point. It's either that the quality control of the batteries used on these phones are terrible, or that the software or kernel are corrupted from factory causing these issues. There is no way to fix them by hard reseting the phone so far. I am going to try to flash a stock rom on this device and see what happens. Thanks by the way.
1) Are you rooted? If not, at least do that and install BBS in order to track down what's eating your battery.
2) Probably we'll run into a common problem / bug the last two months.
After unplugging the phone, it seems that the wakelock *backup* runs constantly, does not let phone get into sleep, and runs in the background while using your phone causin battery to drain faster.
3) About battery life. Comparing battery results between two users it has no point, unless you really now his usage pattern. Not only the setup, but which apps of them used most etc.
For example Facebook app is real battery eater. I've seen an hour more SOT without this app.
I can give several examples like this.

I jumped in and bought a K1 to replace my dying GPad GPE. After 3 days, this seems like a huge mistake.
The K1 is very laggy in basic apps like Play Store and Chrome, does not register touches very well and has terrible battery life. I even charged it overnight and didn't get a full charge. On top of that, I am constantly getting the screen overlay message any time I need to enable a permission.
What could be causing this? This tablet is so highly regarded I don't get it.

For charging you need a 2 or 2,5 A charger. Then it will charge (if it's not faulty) in around 2 hours. The screen overlay message is coming from the quick launcher (or how it is called). So disable it or give it the right to draw over other apps.
I don't have problems with lags or touches. Are you on the latest updates?

Its got a crappy Nvidia CPU in it, thats the issue. Like my N9, that too is crap, again, Nvidia inside.

I am using the correct rated charger. This even happened when charging with the tablet off.
I am on the latest update. I waited to install my apps until after all updates were applied. The touch issues may be lag related. The back button almost always requires multiple touches. Keyboards often time register multiple touches or just freezes.
I am also noticing network issues. Apps report loss of connection when the wifi shows connected.
I hate to say it, but I am leaning towards returning this for a Samsung.

Also a recent owner of the k1. Running stock firmware (1.5) but with BitO-K kernel. The only thing I am experiencing is mediocre battery life, charges from 50-100% in under an hour using a 2.5A charger. The only thing that sucks, and this goes for android tablets in general, is the removal from 4.4 of the TabletUI. Seeing we're already at 7.1 and TabletUI is still dead, it looks like we'll have to fight to get it back again.

That lag is not normal. And my tablet charges from around 10% to full in about 2 hours. Maybe you should try a factory reset. If that doesn't help I would return it.
I won't buy a Samsung tablet. I would try a replacement. I own the k1 for a year now and I'm still very satisfied with. And Nvidia updates it. Which Samsung usually doesn't.

Your experience does not sound typical. Perhaps it's a hardware issue, but I agree with @edisso10018 that the first step would be a factory reset.

The Nvidia CPU is pretty good shame it's not the X1, It performs better then some of my phones with QC chips, Do a factory reset and see if the lag is still there, Battery life is poor can agree on that
My k1 is over a year old it is still playing games with no trouble yes a agree with the battery life but mine charges with no problems a have noticed a little slow down but am not running bit os updated kernel yet but a still rate 10/10 best tablet a ever owned.
Tablet is laggy, no denying it.

K1 here-- I don't run stock (DU 6.0.1), but I used BitOK for a while and realized its not very good. Switched back to stock kernel (from my ROM) and its more stable. You don't lose out on much anyway-- BitOK doesn't have features I want like voltage control. Examples of instability caued by BitOK: GPU was stuck at ~350mhz, would not ramp down fully to 72mhz. Also stock is smoother. You can still use adiutor to monitor and control a few things.
One more thing: be very careful when flashing blobs and other stuff in fastboot that it is for the K1 version and not OG shield! A lot of devs posting these things arent explicit as to which version. DTBs and Blobs are specific to the shield type-- one might work for the wrong tablet version, or it might brick it, or it might be unstable.
As for the Batery life I can tell you it does suck even on the best case scenario. There is no way around this as it is small and the large screen, as nice as it is, sucks a lot of juice. Lowering brightness helps somewhat but still I'll be lucky to get a couple hours of SOT out of it.
For the price its a great tablet, with a few small compromises, such as bat life, but thats the price you pay for great screen and sound at a cheap price. We are lucky to have at least a few devs still doing work with this device, and luckier still that nvidia is STILL supporting it with updates, even if slowly. They recently announced 7.1.1 will be forthcoming.
Mine was laggy too, I flashed stock firmware with my PC and now it's working perfectly.
Bought mine as a refurb and it works fine. I think you either have bad hardware, or a bad install. Try flashing stock and see if it improves.
Tbh my only complaint is with battery life, I switched to BitO to see if it got any better, the tablet is smoother with this kernel than stock but the battery is the same, I wish we had UV'ing, my favorite setting on any kernel, back on my N10 my battery could easily be improved 10-15% and the heat was reduced drastically, good binned ones could shave up to 200mV on some steps. K wish this was implemented

I just bought a K1 (discount price 169€) and I don't have this problem at all. Even if I use only 1 core (settings performance) for basic app it's smooth smooth smooth.
And the battery life is huge !!
For gaming tho I switch back ofc the performance setting.

I bought a K1 three weeks ago to use as a display for my phantom 4 quadcopter. I am very impressed with its performance. I'm not experiencing any lag other than at startup. Once it's up and startup is finalized I dont have any problems. The battery life isn't great, I'll agree there but hopefully it gets better with Nougat.

I bought a K1 last week to replace my aging Nexus 7, did a factory reset and still wasn't satisfied with it being laggy. Did my share of Google searching and finally stumbled upon a quick fix to try : disable Daydream. Since changing this one setting it has been very smooth since, no issue for lag or touch registrations.
Give it a try, might not help your charging but I did notice a much reduced battery drain while sleeping also.
My only other changes were to root, change the DPI to 240 and use the Google Now Launcher which compliments the display nicely.
I wasn't happy with it as well until I flashed cyanogenmod 13 and a custom kernel with overclock. Now it's a beast, battery is great, signal as well. And I also now have the option to OC the processor to 2.5 GHz before I play some more demanding games and then set it back to 2.2 or even lower if I won't need all the juice. Seriously, the stock marshmallow ROM sucks, I have only heard bad stuff about it. Also, the nougat update is about to come out so I'd give android N a chance, too.
About the battery life -- see which apps are using the most juice under settings/battery/. Some of them may be using more CPU cores, and have a higher frame rate than is needed. Go to settings/App optimisation/ and crank the numbers down. Next go to settings/Accounts and see the long list of things that want to autosync with you. Turn the autosync off for those you aren't using. Turning off wifi except when I am using it has made a significant difference for me as well.

Putting the CPU at 80 or 90% CPU speed in the performance settings will get you that reduced power consumption. You might not even notice the speed difference. These speed tiers also run at lower voltage.
Using the GPU frame rate limiter will dramatically extend gaming time too. I find 30 fps acceptable most of the time.
Of course it would be nice to run the thing unrestricted, but it's just not practical when you also want battery life. Look at what Nintendo is doing with the clock speeds of the X1 in the Switch.
