Power button stuck - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How do I unstuck?

I would answer, but I'm not sure if you're talking to me ...

Wish mine was stuck it might stop it rattling.

No you don't, it causes random reboots
Which takes forever, since each reboot optimizes every app

Occasional 'spasm'

Occasionally my Hero will go into a kind of spasm
It'll be sleeping on my desk, and to use a recent example, I was in the market, about to download Yelp, when I had a call on my work landline.
Put my phone down, whereupon it sent to sleep.
Finished my call, and picked my phone up.
Pressed the red button to wake it, and it doesn;t wake. The screen is still dark.
I press the red button again. Screen goes dark.
Expecting a reboot I wait.....nothing.....still nothing. Press the red button a couple more times.
then 15/20 seconds later the screen will come on, go off, come one, go off, as if it's catching up with my previous keystrokes....
what's up with that ?
Eventually I just pulled the battery.

so.. how often does your car sink in lake??
those times when it does... my guess is that your HERO was able to work and be a HERO and help you out
I have this same exact problem. Hopefully when (if) we get the new kernel, it'll be more stable and won't have this problem.

Again LOLLL
Actually, I noticed my lagg got REALLY bad after posting in this thread joking about it
(Nah, JK). But really, I had never had THAT bad of a lagg when waking up the phone, but lately it had been getting worse. I figured the only things I was using differently was Weather Bug Elite (it adds temperature to the taskbar) and the battery widget that also is on the taskbar. I unninstalled WBE, and the lagg got way better (it's not gone but WAY better than it was). Do you use the WBE app?

Alot of times it has just come off the charger, in which case I understand the lag...but most of the times just when it is sitting on my desk.
I do wonder if it has to do with the orrientation sensor, just because it's typically face down (Like after ignoring a phone call) when it happens

Phone shuts off randomly

I'm running the latest DarchDroid and my phone just shuts off randomly. I don't know exactly when it happens. I'll be at work, and I'd take my phone out to check my email... and it'd be off. I have no idea what the god damn problem is and it's driving me CRAZY.
Has this always happened or just on your current ROM?
How often does it happen? This happens to me twice a week, at least. I did check my battery cover and it was off and the battery wobbled itself out. That could be the case..
It happens at least five times a day. It's happened on every ROM I've tried.
Then it's likely to be a hardware issue. I'd take it to Sprint and get a replacement.
only thing like that i've ever experienced is when i have JIT enabled. I get random reboots.

Ok, getting on the phone with them now... If I have to take it to a store, then I'll flash Damage's ROM. I already have the new hboot from about a month ago, so it'll look like I upgraded it.
She said I have to hard reset it. Anyone know what the keycode for that is?
its ##786# or u can boot to recovery and do a wipe or power off hold home then power on

Thanks I asked you instead of asking her so I could use Titanium Backup first.
Did the hard boot ever help the shut off problem? Mine is having the same problem...

This is a really old thread. According to his signature, the OP now has an Epic, so he probably doesn't check this forum. You may want to try to PM him.
Will do. Thanks.

[INFO] Random Reboots aren't True Reboots

I think many of you are misinterpreting the "Random Reboots" you're experiencing. Unless the screen goes completely blank, then it is not a true reboot, if all it does is flash back to boot animation it is just the graphical shell crashing.
Good point, I did notice that it booted up significantly faster than a full reboot when it happened to me before and that it only dropped to the boot animation.
That makes a lot of sense actually
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Thanks for the suggestion - that does make some sense. Is there a way to verify this, though? In my case, my DInc will be in a stand on my desk - screen off, so I can't actually see what happens - when I'll hear it vibrate, and I'll notice the white HTC screen followed by the boot animation. It's only done this since I rooted, and it has done it with at least three of the ROMs I've used.

Yeah, same deal. I have learned to do "real" reboots, especially after rooting. What I mean is actually turning it off, counting to like 20 (maybe pull the battery), and then turn it back on.
Recently I had an issue with the capacitive buttons not lighting up at all so I tried a "quick" reboot (the kind that requires root) and it did nothing, then I tried a "real" reboot and they work fine now.
Agreed. I can confirm the Atrix is not doing a full reboot. I had a call on speaker phone then all of a sudden my screen showed the boot animation and I could hear the other person talking for an additional 15-20 sec while the phone finished "booting". Our conversation was not ended until the home screen came back up, at this point my bars/service dropped to no service. Also, I have not rooted or modified the Atrix, its stock.. w/LauncherPro+.

I had those "reboots" twice now. Once while using Maps and once while sitting on my desk not being used. I was also using LauncherPro+. I wonder if that might have been part of it. I stopped using LP+ and haven't had a "reboot" yet (knock on wood)

contacted google...they had me plug the 7 in...hold the power button down for about 20 secs or so...it actually rebooted...was told it is an issue with the 4.1.1 bootloader not playing well with the device...does not happen often...so if this happens to you...plug it in...hold down power button until it wakes up or reboots...

I have exactly the same problem, happened to me two times today already.
Nearly once a day I'd say.
Did google say, if they are working to fix this bug? It's strange that no one else is reporting about this problem...

sounds like sod(sleep of death). its most likely a bamf rom/kernel issue, not a google issue. sod usually occurs because of lowered core voltages or from undervolting. sleep of death is when your device wont wake but is still on. a force reboot will bring it back.

Just wanted to add, that rotation sometimes stops working on my device. If I toggle Auto-Rotate in the notification bar, this will result in a complete freeze and I have to force reboot as well. Thought the problem was gone after a factory reset, but startet again.
I think I will get a replacement device on monday...

Currently I'm using stock ROM/kernel. So this is a known software bug and no hardware problem? Haven't found many threads about this problem, so it seemed not to be that common. That's why I though about a hardware defect.

facing same problem right now. The phone freezes frequently and then gets okay on its own. This time it took a lot of time so i thought to restart the device but it got stuck on shutting down screen but not turning off. Don't know what to do now!
