Auto sleep / wake function - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought the official flip case for my moto x play and it doesn't wake up the phone when I open the lid. Is there a magnetic sleep wake function on this phone, same like nexus 5?

Are you using the moto display within the moto app?

Yes its on and it works quite ok but not the same way as magnetic sleep wake function. Is there a magnetic one on this phone?

No reviews I've read mentioned it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist though. No idea

It doesn't exist. Even using a sensor app, there's no change in readings on the magnetometer when the flip is open vs closed.
(yes, I own the cover as well, and that was a surprise to me because the case has a magnet to keep the flip closed

I was so used to it with nexus5. Now I'm always closing the lid with display open

I just received my official Moto flip cover & it doesn't sleep/wake the screen either, on the sellers site it says it does. On to Moto site we go.

Us an app called " Gravity " on the play store, works well on the MXP. using the proximity sensor instead of a magnet. Not stock but it works & doesn't seem to use much battery or memory.

Gravity screen was a huge battery drain for me

[Q]Flip Case Auto Sleep Function

Hi All,
Did anyone purchase a case with the auto sleep function? It does not seem to work on mine even though advertised.. Does it actually work the with Tab 4?
Thanks.
I've tried running a magnet over it, and can't seem to find the supposed magnetic sensor anywhere.
Oh really? I wonder how safe is it to have magnets close to the screen... I hope no damage is done...
I got a cheap flip case on ebay and it is a smart case. For the price the quality is quite good. The magnet is about 1" from the left edge ON the screen. It has magnets to keep the cover closed also and it can be used as a stand.

I have a case (generic one from Amazon) and the auto-sleep (and auto-awake) functions work well.
I can't find the sensor on my 7. Does it have one?
I bought the Pellem case and it works well

For an 8 right? Not a seven
Yep I have an 8

Sorry everyone for the confussion.... Turns out the case I got from eBay was defective... I was able to get one that actually had the auto sleep function working...
I bought the official Samsung Book Cover Case for my Galaxy Tab 4 7". It does have magnets in it to support the wedge/propped up mode. The box even indicated the auto sleep/wake functionality. But it never did work.
I don't know about the 7 as I have an 8 but there is a check box under settings>general>accessories for the flip cover. On my tab if I put a magnet 1" from the top left ON the screen it shuts off. Hope this helps.

how to wake up the device? only by pressing the power button????

I was a Samsung guy but now with the new x play , how to wake up the device? only power button????
It is so uncomfortable......Samsung always have a button on the screen
Unless you've adjusted settings, just pick it up and then swipe on the screen.
what settings exactly pls?

Moto Display settings. Every time the phone is lifted from a surface, nudged or pulled from a pocket, the display should show a B/W lockscreen with the clock and notification icons.
the only problem is it last 1s only not giving enough time to swipe.......maybe I have a faulty device

Guys, really there is no double tap or wave to open?
I was just about ready to upgrade my Moto X and then realised this and I am so dissappointed. .. the wave to wake was so convinient....

It is possible to implement it in the kernel. It will be done, eventually

Well, there are so many phone out there, why chose a phone that does not suit me?
Did you have a Moto X 2nd gen? You know how comfortable was to just hover your hand when it was lying in order to check either time or if you have a message?
Now you have to click the side button or is there another way?

I've just bought a Moto X Play, and it did take an hour or so to get used to the swipe-the-dot to unlock it, that's because I was swiping in the wrong direction lol.
But seriously, just pick the phone up or pull it out of your pocket to check or swipe.
anyway, i dont know why it seems so weird?
The sensors are so usefull and comfortable and phones get continiously improved, that i am very surprised about it.
If all improvements were neglected and seemed strange, i would have stayed on my Sony Ericsson P900...
On my Moto G Lte and Moto X Play using Gravity Screen with only proximity sensor uses here on both phones only 0,2-0,3% a charge according to Gsam. Other options in that app like movement use a lot more battery so have that disabled in that app.
Now screen off: put device face down on table, etc. Or put in pocket or bag.
Screen on: pick faced down device up. Pull out of pocket/bag. Or wave over proximity sensor next to top speaker grill on the right.
As extra screen off without using power button I have set: slide up home button=Greenify+lock screen. Double tap home screen and/or status bar with Apex or Nova launcher. A sleep button in Quick Setting and Power Tools.
Moto's lighting up Active Display was also far to short for me. But more irritating was the so often unneeded lighting up of display and keeping device awake according to Wakelock Detector. When device in bag or pocket while walking or driving. Putting glass on table. Moving leg in bed. Even when heavy trucks drive trough the street where I work.
So now using Moto Ambient display. Only lighting up screen after missed call or text. Idle drain is now less than wirh Active Display.

I understand you. It was a nice feature and strangely one of the main advertising features of last year's moto flagship. Now it is gone and nobody wants to talk about it. I want it back, but don't want to exchange against battery life and the camera of moto x play. And I miss my wooden battery cover. The style's battery is to small battery [emoji41]

I am waiting for my Moto Play...
If i dont like it in the first month i will just return it! Let's see.
Received my Moto X yesterday. First impression compared to my Moto X 2014, is that Play does not have the character and style of 2014 model.. And with no wave to wake or double tap, I feel that I went years back, in a negative way... At the current levels of mobiles phones, if you dont put the two above at least put a fingerprint sensor.
I will test it for 10 more days, but first feelings are negative. On the positive side is the wonderful camera!

Screen keeps pulsing even with no notification

I did a Google search for this and couldn't find anything that matched my issue. I thought there was a post on XDA about something similar but nothing came up.
I have 'approach for moto display activated'. I have all other moto activations deactivated.
I have 'wake screen on moto display' activated. I prefer to wave my hand to wake my screen.
I have noticed that when I'm driving, the phone keeps waking the screen. It's like the phone is thinking I'm moving the phone but I thought I had all those options turned off. There isn't anything making movements over the IR sensors.
Am I mistaken when I think the screen should not come on when it senses motion?
Yeah, I also think the sensitity is way too high... I have it sitting next to me on the desk @work about 50cm away.... display goes on all the time... annoying ._.

The phone senses movement and will wake. Put it on a pillow or something and gently move the pillow. The display will wake. Same principle in vehicle. Any jarring or bouncing motion will wake display. The phone won't do this if its face down or on it's side.
An option to disable the movement wake would be great. I'm surprised they don't have the option along with the approach option.

Face down doesn't help when you're using the speakers.
A double tap to wake option in a custom kernel would be beneficial IF it would be feasible with this processor.

Well that's the only way to disable it from waking when you move it, LOLZ.
I know.... But my statement was I wish that they had an option to disable the motion like they did with the approach. I'd much rather have approach enabled and motion disabled.

I totally agree.
I thought mine was doing that too but after testing it yesterday on the way home I think that it's my hand that's activating it. I have the phone mounted on an air vent next to the steering wheel and when my hand is up there it activates the screen, if it's not there it doesn't seem to come on at all even going over bumps etc.
Maybe you have something similar? I have all of the assist option on and it's in driving mode during this.
Mine does the same, but it was on a table far enough from me to not be triggered by movement, just reproducing some music. If it s also sensible to that it doesn't make sense. I already had to switch off moto voice cause it got triggered by almost everything, even the runtle of the fridge. If I have to switch off all the moto functionalities cause they work bad well than I could have bought another phone.
Have to say I agree here. I would love to be able to either adjust the sensitivity to movement of durable the move to wake while keeping the proximity and turned on.

Magnetic Sensor Locking/Unlocking

Okay, so:
I've had this phone for five or six months. The first case I ordered was a wallet case, and I was heartbroken to find that the phone didn't lock or unlock magnetically.
Since I purchased the phone pre-rooted and it already had AICP installed, I thought “Hey, maybe it's just a glitch with this ROM.” However, many ROMs later, I concluded Motorola cut the feature to keep the price down (which was odd, considering my 2014 Moto G had the functionality). It just wouldn't work.
Until today.
Randomly, while watching a YouTube video, one of my earbuds fell out of my ear and made brief contact with my screen... and the screen locked. Perplexed, I try to duplicate this and was promptly able to. It locked when the earbud hit the left side of the screen, and not the right side.
Suspecting this was the magnetic lock I thought I didn't have, I go to my bedroom and find my old wallet case that I haven't been using for about a week now. I hold the magnet in the case over the left side of my screen (contrary to where it—and all wallet cases I've ever encountered for that matter—would normally fall; on the right side) and it locks/unlocks my phone flawlessly.
So I was just wondering; is this a huge mistake made by Motorola in all MXPEs, or did they just mess up the placement with my particular unit?

Galaxy S8 G950FD magnetic sensors out of calibration

Hi
i got 2 brand new S8 G950FD and i got the same problem with both
tge magnetic sensors "compass" keeps losing calibration.
this becomes very annoying when using Google maps onfoot everything is upside down .
recalibrating the sensor is always successful but for some reason it doesn't stick for long even when using high accuracy location settings
I'm not sure if the problem is with Google maps compatibility with the S8 or with the sensor itself
anyone having the same issue ?
does the calibration rest automatically when going to the sensor app (*#0*#) ?(even though I'm going to the sensor app becomes the map is upside down )
thanks in advance

My FD doesn't play nice with one of my cases, as it has some metal in the back of the case. Compass won't even calibrate when the case is on. Makes sense though.

make since but i don't have any metal in the case, and it does calibrate
I've got exactly the same problem. I never thought that a protective case could be the problem, however, I'm using the Samsung original clear case and it does recalibrate...but it's very annoying because you can't rely on your compass, it will abandon you without warning.
Has anybody found a fix to that? Is it hardware related?
