There is only one way to be able to root your tablet, it requires installing a rootable kernel, which yes, requires a custom recovery. This thread has the kernel you need and this thread has the custom recovery you need. We all had to learn some time or another

ok i dont wanna brick anything so im gonna make sure i do this right.. only part im stuck is :
how do ya boot in recovery on step 2 so you can flash in the zip for the kernel..
1: odin in the philz adv. CWM
2: go into recovery
3: flash in the rootable kernel (ill need steps but im guessing i can find that)
4 edit section) will i need to root it at this point or it already is?
(edit)
just found that i can use CF auto-root for my tablet it was on the philz DL so im guessing i odin again the cf autoroot right after the flasinh of kernel
so im guessing : 4: reboot back in download mode to odin in again the auto-root
then 5: restart my tablet
and 6: rooted tablet
edit: added info i found on philz

No cf-autoroot. Once you've got the kernel installed you need to flash the latest supersu zip

ok so :
1 : odin the philz
2 : go into recovery mode
(oh and how do i do that? i know download is home + dwn vol + power but isnt it power + vol up?)
3 : flash in kernel
4 : reboot again in recovery (then again Q2: )
5 : flash supersu
6 : reboot final regularly to start the tablet
did i get most of it? thanks in advance for the answers to #2/4
i know i ask a lot but i dont want to do something bad for 1st complex root(for me that is)
thanks

Download mode : Power Vol- Home . Hold on all buttons then Vol+ .
Recovery mode : Power Vol+ Home . Hold on all buttons .

i'm now the proud owner of a rooted tablet thanks for all your help everyone

any clearer instructions on this? the custom recovery won't take hold in odin for me...

just adding : the kernel and superSU files gotta be on the sim card of the tablet..
you odin in phil'z recovery(links and info on philz page posted earlyer up,) go read on their page how to do it its simple
in the recovery just after; you just read the instructions. kernel 1st then supersu if you read well all should do well too i didnt have trouble so.. just be carefull and READ dont just skip ...

You installed a 4.3 recovery on a 4.4 phone.
Most likely you downloaded the TWRP on the main page and did not download the latest 4.4 compatible one.
Please flash this in Download Mode: http://techerrata.com/bigbiff/hlte-recovery.img.tar
To get into Download Mode, remove the battery, wait a few minutes then put it back, Hold the Download Mode Combination then it would boot directly into Download Mode.
hey nicho, thank you very much
so that was the trick. REMOVE THE BATTERY --> PRESS THE DOWNLOAD KEYS AND HOLD THEM --> THEN ENTER THE BATTERY BACK.
it costed me the whole day yesterday searching for a solution.
at least now I can continue to install a new rom
Thanks man
TWRP
during twrp it told me, there was a newer one. 2.x.x.9
so stupid me, if I had sticked to the plan, nothing would happend.
I used twrp b4 some days ago, for my samsung note 10.1 (2014) without trubbles,
I guess, I overread something
but I'm happy it is all fixed now.
thx for show ur interest

Solution To Loop SM-N900P
I am new to XDA and have only been with android for 6 months but i figure this will help new comers to this issue. Power+Volume Down+Home at the same time to enter download mode. Flash CWM via ODIN. This should work to fix the loop. I found out the hard way but it only took me an hour. I am not sure if this will work if you have not already rooted your phone but it should (since this is the major step in rooting). I believe i deleted my CWM file (accidentally) when i was trying to clear space for my recovery with ROM Manager. Be sure to download the Samsung drivers if you had not already done so during the rooting process.
Hope this helps.
Gives me same error message
But after that it boots into recovery.
Should I proceed installing custom rom or is there anything else to be taken care of
Thanks!
Thank you very much, you save me a lot of trouble.

Based on my experience, using rom manager to flash recovery always results in a problem. I suggest you use odin to flash this in download mode.
Btw, 4.4.2 is Kitkat

The way I did this is, first install the cwm recovery then flash cf-root after. You can always use odin to flash back the original firmware.

Just make sure reactivation lock is off.
When you first start odin, F.Reset Time and Auto Reboot are ticked off so let them be and make sure only those are checked and nothing else.
You probably know this but just to make sure, load the recovery on the AP slot before hitting start.

hello guys,
i bought a used galaxy s5 from someone running Poland Android lollipop 5.0 and it shows the model as SM-G900F When i try to root it with CF-Auto-Root-klte-kltedx-smg900f It gets stuck on the boot screen saying
"1. RECOVERY BOOTING (in blue),
2. RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING (red)
3. Set Warranty Bit: recovery (yellow)"
i googled alot and flashed Phillz recovery which removed the error above but when i go to recovery its the stock recovery? .... I cant install twrp-2.8.7.0-klte.img.tar Either because after flashing it when i go to recovery its stock recovery again. Activation lock is off, SE for Android status is "enforing" does this mean this phone has a locked bootloader? Maybe this phone was on At&T, Sprint or Verizon and the last owner flashed 900f firmware on it to make it look carrier free but it maybe a carrier phoone? Please help me i am very very frustrated right now. i dont even know what recovery is seandroid enforcing means.....:crying::crying::crying:

Ok guys, try this.
1. Download philz kernel that matches your modem number. I think philz_touch_6.26.6-klte.tar.md5 works good.
2. Put it in ODIN on PDA/AP
3. Uncheck "Auto Reboot" and make sure Re-Partition is NOT CHECKED (keep F. Reset time)
4. Flash
5. It will say RESET on Odin and nothing further when it is done so just wait 2-3 minutes when RESET appears to be entirely sure that the procedure is done.
6. Pull out phones battery.
7. Put it back in and now go into Recovery directly (Vol up+home+power)
8. ???
9. Profit
Hopefully this might work, i think i did the same

You need to just boot into download mode (voldown+home+power) then push volup to enter download mode
Use Odin to flash trwp 2.8.6.0 tar file in AP spot
Download a pre rooted rom of your choice for g900f
Place on sd card
Reboot to twrp by holding volup+home+power immediately during start of boot
Flash the rom you just downloaded
Now you'll be rooted
(That's what I did in order to get my phone rooted after installing the newest stock lollipop ota)

u haven't rooted your device,
u have to flash the supersu zip to get the root access
http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
first download this file and place it in your device storage, once u pull the battry off and put it back in go straightly to the recovery
select install zip and flash the supersu.zip
then reboot it,after the first boot then go to the recovery and
install your custom rom

I followed instructions given earlier to install philz recovery, i opened it by booting into it immediately i selected format for new rom install. after that i am stuck on samsung logo i think the old rom is now deleted. Now i am downloading fresh 5.0.2 UK from sammobile i will download it and try to root it normally with flashing CF ROOT via odin. if it does not work then i will do what u guys said. I dont know if TWRP will work by the same method (booting immediately into recovery) but philz recovery did. And i will also try flashing a prerooted Rom. What i dont understand is that why is this happening in the first place? i had an alpha before i could enter into TWRP normally i rooted it with CF AUTO root normally...no errors or anything why is this happening on my S5? the last owner must have done something weird with it ...i am trying to figure out why is this happening in the first place. Appreciate ur feedback.
I also dont know why this is happening
and yeah
i had all the galaxy S series upto S5 and this the only device that is not rooting with CF-auto root
the latest updates from samsung may have done something i dnt knw
and eralier mentioned method worked 100% for me and i did root my device like that
And last owner may b or may not done anything with it because my device is a brand new and still i had that issue

Is this the correct way to get the root on N910F 5.1.1?

Hi,
I'm a new user of this phone and i'm pretty disappointed on some point... But first of all i'm disappointed because i can't get a root wihout trip knox and so bye bye warranty.
Anyway could you check if this is a correct way to get root on N910F with firmware 5.1.1? thanks
1. Open Odin and check on PDA or AP
2. put the phone in Download Mode
3. flash the recovery TWRP, downloaded from this link
Once I'm inside the recovery:
4. Install the kernel (I hope that enforced kernel is best choice) "N910F-Stock_Kernel_XXU1COH4_Root_Enforced-PhilZ.zip" that i download from here and I found on this thread by Phil3759
5. END (i should have the root, hoping no problems/lags/errors) :fingers-crossed:
Now I have another couple of questions:
- without flash TWRP, can I flash by odin directly same kernel that i post (just .tar version)?
- and if I can do that, the knox will trip anyway?
Thanks
then you have to flash the SuperSU after you did all the 4 steps found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
youll find on the botom, there is a cwm philz version to flash..
i dont think you can flash the kernel without recovery first, but youll need the recovery for roms and others stuff too, so just use odi and flash it.. i rooted my note 4 a few days ago too, im running stock rom, is the best..
and yes i think it will trip as soon as you flash the kernel and recovery..
glad to help.. this should be enough to help you root it
edit: i use philz found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/snapdragon-dev/trltexx-philz-touch-t2927930
i think i read somewhere that it's better for n910f, maybe im wrong, but its good too

[Q] Root Tab 4 SM - T331 (Lollipop)

I have tab 4 sm - t331 with android 5.1.1 and i rooted it but somehow it's failed because supersu wont install binary update and anyone can help me root the devices ?
Answers :
=>Use the one from here called sm-t331-Philz-6_58_9-recovery-FINAL.tar
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=23544
Download to your PC the Philz recovery tar file for the SM-T331 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-...-smnu-t2980094
Download to your tablet the SM-T331 rootable kernel from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-...table-t3164499
Download to your tablet the supersu v2.52 zip from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps...v2-05-t2868133
On your PC run Odin. Boot your tablet into download mode (home, vol-, power) and connect to PC with USB. In Odin disable the auto-reboot option, this is important. Flash the recovery. Once it's done flashing, you must boot your tablet into recovery (home, vol+, power), it should be Philz Touch CWM recovery. In recovery, first install the kernel zip, then the supersu zip. It might help to wipe cache at this point, I honestly can't say for sure. Obviously make sure you're doing this with at least 50% battery

Make sure you have latest twrp 2.8.7
.0 if not go to twrp official website find your device (n910c listed as Note 4 Exynos LTE (treltexx)) then download and flash it.
If you want root on 5.1.1 just flash a custom kernel like Perseus-Halaszk or any custom rom. I believe Cf-root method doesn't work on 5.1.1 atm and will get your phone into a bootloop.
Also next time you're posting make sure its in the right section.

Man i really say thank you but i had the problem that some people are talking that samsung blocked the device by android to downgrade or doing anything in odin... SW rev. check fail. device 2 binary 1 Everything that i do in my device connected to odin gets in this and odin fail
Try following these steps:
1- Download TWRP from here.
2- Download this kernel. (If you are on COI4 get v1.04, COJ5 get v1.05)
3- Put the kernel .zip file on your phone
4- Open Odin and disable AUTO-REBOOT. Import the TWRP into PDA, then flash it.
5- Now take off your battery, put it back in, then boot into recovery. (Boot into Recovery, not the OS!)
6- Flash the kernel .zip file through TWRP and install root when it asks you to.
7- Reboot.
Hope this helps.
