2 Days of Battery Life, That's what they promised - Xperia Z4/Z3+ General

As you all know The Sony Xperia Z5 series is said to be able to last for 2 days. As long as the device is not released yet, we just have to wait to prove it.
So, as I searching around in Youtube, I've found this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxYhhkWgQx0
I was stunned. What !? 2 Days on Z3+ ? It's ridiculously impossible !
in my normal use my Z3+ only last for 3-3.5 hours of screen time, 4 if lucky.
and the goddamn heat issue is still there, even worst you can notice performance dropped dramatically when CPU gets hot.
To be clear I never use Stamina mode, as it decrease frame rate (Which on my old Z1, it is never happened. Back then I always enabled Stamina mode)
therefore, The fact that Z5 series still use SD810 (even they have dual heat pipe) , I don't think 2 days of battery life is going to be possible.
Or they might be a chance that they would successfully fix both the battery and heat issue on upcoming 5.1.1 (maybe that's why they delayed it)
So, Let's hope

Let's hope for that but still waiting for 5.1.1 for z3+
ME

When have manufacturers not exaggerated their devices' battery life? I didn't think anybody took those claims at face value.
Two days is possible with light use.

I usually have like 1,5h of screen on time and 15% battery after ~20 hours. Stamina mode does literally nothing for my battery life, if something it gets worse.
I don't know how Sony usually rolls but if I were them I'd go directly for 6.0 and skip 5.1.1.

Since last charge i've got 2h15mins of SOT, And 19hours total Idletime - Battery is at 58% now. For me it's okay. Depends on your usage profile and if you are on Wifi or on mobile data (once again, look up the "mobile radio active bug". Maybe a Mod should make a Sticky with this and the PC Companion Repair to fix Overheating...).

As @[NUMINIT] said all the manufacturers lie about the battery life but they lie too much about this particular phone. It doesn't even last 1 day. My Z1 was a really great phone, this one is like something to half way.

With light use, I can easily get 1 1/2 days out of this phone. Your experience may differ based on different usage preferences and patterns.
Can I ask what you're hoping to get out of this thread?
Sent from my E6553

The crucial thing is they say "up to " meaning it not definenent but it can last up to 2 days ,I use mine for work and does good job in this role ,I get 2 days and about 2 hours screen time but every device and user experience is different, still doesn't beat my old z3c at battery life

Another thing : if battery life seems so bad far you, why not posting a Screenshot of the battery stats and usage in the battery life thread? This whole "this device sucks" - things is getting on My nerves.

Mine too, but hey, it's easier to ***** than actually look for a solution.

If you don't use Stamina, chances are good you have the mobile radio active bug. I use it and get around 4-5 days. Last Firmware were only two days. I don't have lag or unusual heat as well.
Done a factory reset?

It says = 1 day 19 hours 4 minutes
Only 5 hours to go

One more proof. It exceeds 2 days. BURN!

All I want is to share my experience and yeah, I kinda *****y about it
But hey, I didn't get the phone for free. I do think I have right to complain about the issue.
I'm glad for those who are not facing this problem. you are lucky bastard.
I will wait for new FW to see if it solve the problem. If not, maybe it's time to say goodbye with Sony

Guys, check out the battery life thread for nasty lollipop bug called 'mobile radio active'. My Xperia Z2's battery life was legendary on Kitkat & then it hit the rock bottom when lollipop came out. Same issue with my Z3+, S6 & unfortunately I don't have the option to downgrade these two to kitkat. Lollipop is the only reason why all 2015 phones' battery life sucks big time. Z3+ battery life is still a lot better than S6's if you're into heavy browsing. You'd be lucky to get anything better than this until Google fixes this bug.
It's been told here multiple times - few things you could do to improve battery life
1. Always close all apps (from the MT window) before locking screen while you're on mobile data
2. If you're on wifi 24/7, turn off mobile data permanently
3. Use 2.5GHz Wifi instead of 5Gz if possible
4. Make sure 'Screen' is on top of the battery usage list. Otherwise, you got radio active bug or something else that's draining battery. That said, 'cell standby' tops my list occasionally if I don't use it for a long time. It doesn't affect heavy users but Sony needs to work on that.
5. For past Xperia owners, Z3+ screen is much brighter than Z2, Z1. In order to get Z2 like battery performance, you have to lower the brightness. If you leave the brightness slider at 'zero' with adaptive brightness on, it's still much brighter than Z2 & drains a lot of battery. Stick to lower manual brightness if possible.
6. Root

Sony said up to 2 days. So it is not 2 days. It depends on your usage. My sometimes gets 2 days but if I use it more I can get 1 to 1.5 days..

1.5 days is a lot (for me 1/3 of a day is so much), I am working in a very hot place (Mérida México) and I can take one or two pictures then it get's almost on fire and the app closes, video is a shame pain lag, I can not record 5 seconds... if the app didn't close the video looks like a sequence of photo shots... my first nokia 3250 with symbian makes me happier in that era.
Sony:
Like @ing005 say it's time to say goodbye to you and your new "super" spec's devices, you are using us and we have to pay for tasting.

Battery Life on the X10

Ok, so there was a lot of discussion in Z's FreeX10 thread regarding whether it improved/worsened battery life, so I am running a little experiment. With the aid of Juiceplotter I ran for a few days on FreeX10b4, and then on the stock(ish) Rooted JIT 2.1.A.0.435 found here.

Beta 4 Over 24 Hours
Beta 4 Zoomed in on a period of use
Stock .435 over 24 Hours
Stock .435 zoomed in on a period of use (not the same day as the first image)
Typical use is just web browsing, not games or videos. It certainly looks a little steeper on the Beta4 graph.
Tomorrow I'll flash to the previous baseband and repeat for beta3 vs. Stock. If anyone knows how to make the pictures smaller I'd be grateful... I know how to do it in HTML but I've never posted anything in PHP before!
26/02/2011 Ok, after much delay I'm now running .49 baseband, flashed using Zhidhu's pre-rooted 2.0.2.A.24 found here. As some in the comments have noted, results seem to vary wildly w.r.t. battery life, which is why I thought I'd run tests on them all using the same handset and the same usage (i.e. mine) which should eliminate most variables.
Mine is the best it's ever been personally... Seems like results are extremely varied.
I get a vary of result for example today it has used 49% of the battery in 4 hours o.0
using juice defender but not auto task killer

I totally agree! My x10i may last even 3 days with moderate use of data and wi-fi, barely 1 if use it like it has to...

I think there may be a bit of a battery or power glitch. My phone has stopped charging a couple of times, once at 74%, the other at 92%, and the battery has got quite hot. A swift reboot sorted it.
Generally, I think FreeX10 may be a bit heavier on the battery, but it's really hard to tell because it's so much nicer to use compared to the stock ROM that I think I'm using the phone lots more than I was :-D

I had some woeful battery time with Freex10Beta3, but then yesterday it was fantastic - sure, I wouldn't get 3 days out of it, but I could have pushed 1.5 easily...
Trouble with battery life is that it isn't an exact science (should be), but it seems you can change nothing, and have some drastic improvements. Or hardly touch the phone one day and it's dead in no time.
My X10 since new always drains my battery in one day, it's not a hardware problem, since i got a replacement, and then a battery replacement, i wish we could improve the batttery life a little more
i'm on BETA4
I'm not gonna say my battery life has been amazing lasting for weeks or anything but ive had no problem with it. I mean it lasts more than a day or maybe more than two with relatively light usage. And if I'm constantly on it I can drain it in 8hrs but I never drain it completely. And I've seen consistent life over the roms I've used as long as the flash was good which sometimes takes a couple times. My mom has one and she uses it only sparingly and it lasts over a week so in reality for having a computer in your pocket the life is not that bad. Besides do you really need to update your twitter status every 6 minutes??
Sent from my Delorean using a flux capacitor!
Nice Idea.
Personally I found that the battery life on Beta 2 was better than Beat 3 and 4.
Is is possibile to add it to your test?
Also the only only diffrence between Beta 3 and Beta 4 is the Baseband...
That's really what I'm testing... however I haven't had time to flash back to the old baseband yet. Real life tends to interfere...

Using Bitsnacker's 2.1 ROM on .435; no data, BT, GPS and STILL a strange battery leak I can't seem to trace. F.Y.I. also using SetCPU and AutoTaskiller, and a few Sysctl tweaks, so I may have created conflicts in my ignorance....
I've had a couple of times, since using b4 a weird thing where I plug it in and it drains really fast down to zero while charging. Rebooting seems to fix it though.
If it happens on b3 or stock 2.0.2.A.0.24 I'll know it's a fault with the handset and not a software issue.

Actual Z5 owners... Post your screen on times

As the title... To get a good average example... Please post (ideally with screenshots of battery stats) your screen on times for a single full charge of battery and please state whether you have a Z5, Z5C or Z5P . Whether you have sync and data/wifi active etc.. Auto brightness.. Any other deciding factors
Thankoooooo

3 hours, only my second day but thats with bluetooth/wifi on all day + full brightness (auto) + I live in a poor signal area
I am sure It will get better, its definatly far better than my galaxy s6.
Possibily very slightly worse than the Z3 but too early to tell.
3hrs SoT, WiFi all day, down to 29% now... Not stellar.
I've gotten 6 hours on my 3rd day, but I spent around 3 hours underground, so flight mode was switched on. Overall, I've spent a couple hours listening to Spotify and redditing for the most part of those 6hrs. I am pretty satisfied with the battery life, it's just a little bit worse compared to what I was getting on Z3.
5 hours in typical use with wifi or 3G data on.
~4.5 Hrs. Posted some screenshots -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63442175&postcount=97
Mine will soon hit > 5.5 Hrs though
So far so good for me. Before my Z5, I has a OnePlus One (known for its stellar battery life). Yup, the Z5 battery seems to drain faster than the OnePlus One when using it, but on the other hand I noticed it seems to use less power than my OnePlus on bluetooth + screen off, in the car. I always listen to the same podcast when I go to work in the morning (it takes 1 hour), and my Z5 lost only 2% this morning (from 100% to 98%). My OnePlus One would usually lose 4-5%.
I received my Z5 yesterday though, so I'll let it settle down a bit too. I will report back in a few days
Awesome device though. It's well built, it feels very premium compared to my older phones (a cheap OnePlus One that I liked a lot and an ugly but very good Galaxy Note 3)
Today I'm at 2hrs sot, and down to 40%. I've been offered a full refund, and I'll be taking the phone back on Monday.
I'm very disappointed in the z5, and perplexed how others seem to have great battery life.
Today so far and i was sat nav'ing for half an hour

So Xperia Z5 can make it to 6h SOT with stamina mode on and 3G as prefered network.

Coming from Sony z2 and im bit dissapointed about the S7E Battery Life

Hello,
First i have to say i really like that Phone looks and feels very nice, changed a bit the ui and rly like it actually but...
The Battery Performance is very poor between a z2 and a S7e,
sure i know better screen bigger/faster cooler but when i see my old z2 can handle 2 (40 to 50 hours) days without charging and i get 400mah bigger battery in a s7e and only get around 20-24h from it thats very poor.
I hope they get something like the Stamina mode from Sony which is learning what you do on your phone to safe more battery, actually the Power saving mode gives me 1 more hour...
this phone is 2 years old now and perform so much better in battery stats thats just unbelievable.

That's why I always carry a 10000mah portable battery charger. No bigger then the phone do it's not a big issue to put in my pocket. I went 14 hours 27 minutes yesterday and that was down to 11%. I'm also a very heavy user tho. I stream, Facebook, text, kik, internet, watch movies, etc constantly. So to me that's actually not a bad battery. Came from the s5 and I was only getting 9 hours max on that. So this is fantastic battery life to me.

i never need to carry something extra on my z2 and i would say im a "normal" user fb a bit emails whats app etc i dont play on smartphones nothing. and compared to my old z2 when i go to bed i had around 40-60% battery left actually i have around 10-20% left on the s7e... i think something is wrong with the battery/software or something.
Battery life seems okay to me. Idle overnight for 7.5 hours is only 1% drain...
I do believe than an update from Samsung will improve the battery on the Snapdragon 820 edition. It's impossible for such discrepancy between Snapdraon and Exynos. On the other hand, it may be that Qualcomm is just behind with their efficiency and people are just not believing it yet.
I get 7-8 hours SOT.
I got 30hrs runtime and 11hrs SOT and am now on track to get almost 3 days runtime and 9hrs SOT. I'm not disappointed. Screenshots are in the post your battery life thread. I'm on my z2 tablet now so I can't post them. SD820 on Verizon BTW.
Something is obviously draining your battery. I really don't see why anyone complains about battery life of any phone the first week they have the phone. Most people never put the phone down. I got my S7 Edge the first day people got them with T-Mobile so I think two weeks now. I'm a power user and killed the battery once at like 8pm after taking it off the charger at 7am. I had the Sony z1 and returned it since battery life sucked.
I can't post my Gsam stats on the mobile xda app, but I am at 42% battery life left with 5 hours and 11 minutes of active time over the course of 9 Hours. Very heavy usage those 5 Hours btw. GearVR for 20-25 mins, YouTube for an hour and Spotify both to and from my work. With the occasional Web browsing.
Damn good for me.
I want to point out I disabled the majority of the bloatware with package disabler though.
I've moved from an Xperia Z3 and i find the battery life to be much, much better. No complaints here.
Ok this morning i get a popup about some apps moved into power saving mode now.
atm im coming home and get 70% batter left, WOW!
so far it says around 40h lifetime of the battery i think you are right guys i should give the phone a bit more time....
btw im on the european version of the s7e i think thats the exynos version right?

More Battery Life Or More SOT?

OK, so lately on the forums it seems like everyone is desperate to achieve great battery life and SOT without actually need it , I'm not going to lie if I see that someone with the same device it's getting 2 or 3 hours of SOT more than me I will want the same thing for me ! But the question is , do I really need it ?
We all have different needs and goals with our phones for example there are people that use their phones has an accessory and other that really depend of them , but why are people so desperately to achieve the same result like others ?
In my case I can easily achieve 3 days of battery life with 4hours of SOT but I need to literally let the phone on table all day and sleeping , I feel like its way more productive to make my phone die in a single day but achieving a usage of 8-9hours of SOT.
What about you ? Would you rather extend your battery life and decrease usage or Increase usage and make it last less time ?
Because when other people have better battery than themselves despite similar usage. That mean there's something wrong or something unnecessary draining battery. So people asking for help and trying to achieve the battery life that they're supposed to get with their phone.
Need it or not, better battery life is always prefered.
For example
The phone may last a day before battery dies and pose no problem with daily life. But if it suppose to last 3 days with the same usage, who wouldn't worry? It mean they need to charging battery 3 times more often thus battery will wear out and die 3 times faster than normal. The phone battery that suppose to last 3 years may die in just 1 year.
I may exaggerated it a bit but that's what happen especially in long term when the effect add up.
And for your question at the end. I would say, I don't care. As long as the battery life is what it's suppose to be and I get to use the phone as I want.
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
People use their phone differently to others
I for one have a lot of widgets I bet most don't
I want mor SoT but want to have my phone last long, thats why I always thinking about battery cases, to get best of both world. Also I go for black themes, not so much push messages, power save on all the time, etc
It varies but to be honest the best person to test out what they need is the individual themselves. If I'm at home all day and I go from 3 days charge to 1 day charge and I am doing NOTHING different then there is an issue.
If I used to get 8 hours SOT over 24 hours and now I struggle to get 4 hours SOT over 24 hours with similar usage, then there is an issue.
More battery life = more SOT
I get 8 hours sot with 2 days use. Best of both worlds

I think it really has more to do with usage patterns than what apps you have. If I use my phone consistently for long periods of time and also leave it sitting for long periods of time, I'll get better SOT and standby time. Some weekends I can hit 8 hours of SOT. During the week when I'm at work, I do a lot more short quick checks of my phone, so my average SOT is about 4 hours and about 28 hours of total battery time because I'm waking my phone more often just to quickly check an email or text message.
Now, some apps can definitely affect battery life if they are constantly running in the background and keeping your phone from deep sleep.
Nowadays i dont worry..i charge everyday. Sometime twice on same day. The screen is beauty to look at.

Is this normal in GS7's battery? Share your usage!

So...
I got an unlocked Samsung S7, the Sprint variant, to use it in my country which is Mexico and I get pretty good signal, including LTE and all that. Since I got this phone (about a week ago) I haven't been getting what I think of good battery life, on a full charge disconnecting around 9 a.m. my phone dies on me at around 6 or 7 p.m. with occasional use like checking Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat and a bit of YouTube, no intense gaming or heavy browsing.
At first, I thought it would be all the Sprint bloatware and the fact that it thinks it's a Sprint phone so it tries to activate every time it boots, and I didn't really had the time to root my phone to remove all that trash until yesterday. When I finished the rooting/debloating process my phone had around 60% and it lasted me from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. only playing music and ordinary stuff.
My question is, is this kind of battery life normal? I mean, I come from an iPhone 5S (and before that I had a Galaxy S6 which is equally bad in terms of battery) and I'm pretty used to charging the phone two times a day when it's under heavy usage, but since this battery is way more big than that of the iPhone and the S6 I thought I would be getting a lot of battery life. Basically I need to charge this phone in the middle of my day so it can make it until bedtime.
And I saw a lot of YouTube reviews before getting this phone and everybody says that this battery is great (not excellent, but makes it to the end of the day) but I can't share this thought. I'm running Nougat QAA firmware, rooted and bloatware free, phone is in pretty good condition (like new, so no battery deterioration) and my usage is pretty average as I watch Netflix and YouTube on my PlayStation and usually browse the web in my laptop. I just want to know if this is normal or not, maybe I just expected too much and that makes me think that this is far worse than it actually is. I'll post a screenshot of my battery when it dies on me so you can see how this day went, and I would like to see yours too!
Cheers!
Hi, last year I bought some kind of "refurbished" 930P, unlocked of course because I'm form Uruguay and I use it here. Like you I was very disappointed about the battery life, I mean, at the first my phone died around 3hs of screentime usage. After I flashed 930U rom to solve some issues I was having with uruguayans carriers, the battery life improved a little, so now my phone dies around 3hs30m or in many cases nearly 4hs of screentime. I still waiting 7.0 Nougat for 930U to see if battery lifetime changes.
I recommend to you flash the U rom on your S7, you get free of all that bloatware and I'm sure your battery life will be better.

Thank you for replying, I installed the latest Nougat and rooted it, then, debloated it and I got about the same screen-on time, 3 and a half hours. I would like to install the U firmware but I think there's no rooting for that (please correct me if I'm wrong) and I need root to remove ads and to change the system emojis because to me they look horrible!
Also, would you please post a screenshot of your most intense usage? Gracias!
I would say the best way to improve battery life is to install a package disabler app and manually remove bloatware. Everytime I flash between U firmware and new Sprint software one of the first things I do is disable basically any samsung thing that can be disabled, and google apps I don't use etc. Also Nougat let's you change from 1440 to 1080 and that helps a lot in terms of battery life. Try that.

That's exactly what I've done in fact, I have the latest Sprint Nougat installed and I'm rooted and I uninstalled all of the Samsung and Sprint apps I don't use, my phone is rather clean actually, only a page and a half in the app drawer, still haven't had the battery I expect. I use my phone in 720p lol

The screen resolution by default is HD (not QHD like before), and I must say both battery life and screen on-time have improved a lot (nearly 5 hours!!!) . I'm very happy with this results.

Awesome!! Had to trade in my S7 for an Exynos model though, couldn't live with the poor battery life I had but I'm glad it is getting fixed!
Could someone solve the problem? I have the last update and the battery is drained and turned off with 40%
