Maybe he means with stage fright going public it might mean a chance for root?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=62895600

No what I mean is I just got done with a Motorola soak test for the Verizon Moto e 2nd generation and it patches the stage fright bug
Sent from my XT1528 using XDA Free mobile app

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that it was coming and to not take the update if they're looking for possible root because once its patched I don't think it will be possible ever
Sent from my XT1528 using XDA Free mobile app

It will be firmware version 23.16.5.en.US
Just a heads up in this is only for Verizon that I am reporting this.

Don't care about rooting this phone anymore but the update was pushed today. Just happy to have the vulnerability patched.

You absolutely need to have stock recovery on it for this to work for any OTA to work
Sent from my XT1528 using XDA Free mobile app

Any link for the stock recovery would be great help. Moto e2 3g variant

Even the last update did not fix the vulnerability

Because there is a new version of the virus.

ATT Moto X Camera Update Rolling out

Looks like the update is rolling out. Guessing this should not break the root exploit for non dev editions correct? If one is currently rooted, they would have to return 100% to stock so stock recovery is there for the OTA update to successfully install. And then re-root?

I cleared framework data and didntgdt the prompt. Although this phone is getting returned tomorrow and I'll be picking up my 32 GB when I get home.

I did that with this phone once and it screwed it up. I do not recommend this method unless you want to factory reset.

I'm wondering how I can get the update. I bought the phone from Rogers, but use it with Bell. I'm not on the Rogers network, so I'm sure I can't get the update OTA from Rogers. I'm hoping there's a rom or kernal or something I can flash/install.

Shouldn't matter. The update doesn't come from YOUR provider, the device's ROM is designed so that it pulls from Rogers' servers. When Rogers releases the update, you'll get it.
Just got my update and installed!

I did something wrong. My phone keeps restarting after every 30 seconds. I guess I'm going to factory reset.
And that isn't working. Looks like I'm in for a couple of hours of figuring out how to make my phone a phone again.

For those of us that use Motoroot, should we unroot then update, or can we update with the root?
Also, if we unroot to get the update will we be able to use the same method to root again?

so did you just follow the instructions as the tutorial thread or did you do something different? My phone pinged that the update is available, but I'm still at work so it'll be a few hours before I can do anything with it.
Wrong quote I meant to quote the member with the restart issues

Same happened to me. What I did was as fast as I could, went to settings apps running found Google framework and moto framework cleared data and cache. It seems to work no more reboots. I still can't do a reset for some reason. Hope this helps.

There really was only a very short window of time to unlock the bootloader. Unless you got an M after the update that was still on the original firmware. Almost right after Rosenberg published, Verizon sent out their exploit patch... I really wish Verizon would stop doing this stuff. It makes no sense.

Motorola just released kernel source code, i dont know but can this help?????
Sent from my XT907 using XDA Free mobile app
This will not likely help much unlocking the bootloader, but it is nice of them to do so promptly to allow the few devs who build ROMs to continue updating with the new kernel.
It will help with our custom ROMs...

KitKat troubles
I purchased two used Razr M's for use on Straight Talk. After using Radiocomm, the phones worked great. My wife updated to KitKat and lost her service. I used Radiocomm on hers and have it running again. I upgraded mine also and now we both screwed. Modem Fast Dormancy Monitor Service error pops up all the time. I watched mine screen come on like a reboot three times yesterday. Before I went to bed, I noticed that I had no service. A reboot and service came back. I sent two emails to Motorola and have no reply as of yet. KitKat runs great, but now I just may have to buy two more phones. I don't see any help coming and would advise people to stay away from these phone unless using on Verizon. I didn't know all the trouble a locked bootloader and not being able to root would cause. I read that it had been implied that Android slow release stages were to cause people to buy new phones for updates. So I guess the KitKat issues I'm facing are the same. Encourage me to buy before my wife skins me alive!
There is a fix for the Modem Fast Dormancy bug but it requires root in order to edit the build.prop and disable it.
Without root, it is possible there maybe a way to disable those functions by editing the NVM, but it will require some considerable work to isolate the NV Items and parameters responsible.
After editing the build.prop the phone performs pretty well under KK for GSM/WCDMA service.
I will try and take a look at the NV dumps and see what I can find. No promises.

Anyone know if there's any risk taking the soak with unlocked BL's?
Shouldn't be but if it did lock the boot loader you should be able to unlock using the same code. I don't think they would bother worrying about a few unlocked phones.

There will be no problem taking the soak with an unlocked bootloader. I was unlocked prior to taking last soak a couple months ago.
I can neither confirm nor deny that I got an email for a soak test

House of moto is what I would use if you want to keep your data.
Got the email but I'm going to ignore it and see how things go for other users, dont want to be the guinea pig to find out whether it re-enables write protection and breaks root.. Using my N4 right now anyway

Is it 4.4.4 or in the emal there are not any information about android version of SOAK? Maybe a new SOAK have android version 4.4.0 as a previous version 19.6.3.

OTA's on ROM's typically don't work unless the ROM maker implements their own OTA system like Cyanogenmod. So no. Wait for the official thread to update with it.

Is it Safe to Upgrade to Lollipop?

My wife and friend took the Lollipop update on their Non Rooted Verizon S5 when it first dropped and had all kinds of issues. So I Odin ed back to NK2 on both phones. Is it safe to Upgrade? Have the problems been fixed?

I was on the latest stock OTA that came out this month and I had no end of problems (which, btw, persisted after a full factory reset). Downgraded again last weekend to 4.4.4...
It's nice having a cool phone again, one that doesn't freeze or stutter or close apps constantly. Oh and my battery life is great again. I understand some aren't having these problems, but I know I sure did.
Well I rooted my wife's phone she hasn't let me do that since her Droid Incredible days. Just looking for a stock Rom stable and good battery life.
