Samsung Pay Experience Thread - Galaxy S6 General

Just got my Samsung Pay Beta activated on my phone two days ago (Sprint GS6) and I wanted to share my experience. In short, it works brilliantly. I tried it today for the first time. I have my chip & pin Bank of America card attached to it.
The first place I tried was Walgreens. They have NFC readers, but I turned off NFC because I wanted to try the MST part to see how good it would work. As soon as the cashier told me how much I had to pay, I put my phone up to the reader and it worked almost instantly. I was actually surprised at how fast it was, even faster than NFC (Google Wallet) from my past experiences. The cashier didn't even flinch or ask questions, I guess she is used to people paying with their phones.
The second place I tried was Dollar Tree. I pretty much did the same thing, as soon as she told me the price I held the phone to the reader and it worked instantly. This time the cashier had never seen someone pay with their phone. She asked me if I had just paid with my phone and I said yes. She told me I was very advanced and modern (she was an older lady) and the old lady behind me said the same thing. She was smiling the whole time I was walking out the door. I laughed and told them it was the new Samsung Pay.
So far it has been a really nice positive experience from ease of use, to cashier response. I need to try it at more places obviously. Just one thing to mention, when the phone is off and you pull up the credit card, you have to swipe up all the way to the middle of the screen for it to recognize what you are trying to do and turn on. I wish they made it a smaller swipe motion.
I'll update this as I try it at more places. I plan on getting the Gear S2 Classic, so I'm excited to try NFC on that as well.

Got my beta a few days ago, just updated my FW today (T-Mobile Latest) still can't get the placeholder app to give me the install button.

no experience yet. samsung just keeps emailing saying im invited to test the beta and i just keep putting in my email....maybe I'll get the link to the beta app on the 27th....

Are you signed into your Samsung account on the phone? Your Samsung sign-in has to be the same email as the email you signed up for in beta.

What carrier are you using? Do you have the Samsung Pay app on your phone already?

@senneca01, though i think i know the answer but you must be on stock rooted isnt it? Has anyone tried the samsung pay on rooted device?

att and no app

Yeah. I wasn't at first but I fixed that quick. Wiped the galaxy app store, account, Samsung pay and samsumg÷ app. I even tried downloading someone else's Samsung pay and framework app. That got me further. I was able to get all the way to where it sees your login and I hit next it tries to load but fails.

I've read that it takes a few days to show up for some people, I hope it works soon for you.

used it the other day. Strange experience. but it worked flawlessly at Home Depot
Its also cool you can swipe up with the screen off and active it so you dont have to have it active all the time
(FYI: i had to call Samsung Pay to get beta activated because this is my 2nd phone and they had tied to the original IMEI i had)

Tried it at GameStop today and the MST worked flawlessly. Only this time the cashier asked me for the last 4 digits of the card. Samsung just updated the app yesterday and now it shows the last 4 digits of the digital card right under the last 4 digits of the real card. It did not show that before, so it is a nice update. Showed him my phone and was out the door. He was totally confused about the whole transaction, had never seen it done before.

had to report my first bug today. Samsung pay seems to break my IR blaster. have a ticket in so we'll see what happens

Reported the same bug and got a ticket in as well. It seems to break both the top IR blaster (used by the Peel remote) and the proximity IR emitter on the front (used by Beep'nGo).

I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what was wrong with my IR Blaster. I'm glad my hunch was right and that Samsung Pay (once a card is activated in the software) is the culprit.

Well, I was very excited to see Samsung Pay available for my use today. After the hour or so of updates that I needed, I went to start adding cards to it. Out of about 6 cards in my wallet, only one actually works. So, yeah, it's great that it can be used at more places than Google Pay or Apple Pay, but only with one of my cards, which happens to be an AmEx, which also means that it's NOT accepted at a lot of places.
Also, when I tried using it at the grocery store, I couldn't get it to work. I kept holding it near the card swipe slot, moving the phone around, never got it.

Does anybody know when it will come to Europe ?

This depends on the given country and also the local banks AFAIK.

I got it activated today and added a card.
Seems a bit laggy at times,
It's froze a couple of times on me.
Have yet to try it, I will next time IF I REMEMBER lol.
Gotta get used to it.
Also Question, do you have to have NFC activated or android beam in order to use sam pay?

Nope. NFC is merely a fallback if it cannot do a MST. I keep NFC off just to try and get MST sales to go through.

I just used Samsung pay at auto zone. . It was so easy and effortless! !

new AT&T sim card blocking google wallet!

I was at the AT&T store to pick up a new micro simcard for my new N4. The rep was about to give me the simcard when he suddenly asked if I had NFC. I said yes and he went and got a different card muttering something about extra security for Isis.
Later, I tried to set up Wallet but it just hung during initialization. When I took the simcard out, Wallet initialized fine. Put it back in, kaput.
Is AT&T actively disabling Wallet since they are promoting Isis or is it an inadvertant incompatibility. I plan to go back and demand a non-Isis card.

Whoa, that would be completely ridiculous. I took the micro SIM from my HTC One X, put it in my Nexus 4 and Wallet authorized fine (haven't used it yet). All it says is that I'm using an unsupported device because of root, but that doesn't change the functionality.
I had to go to at&t for a sim card as well however wallet works great for me. I use it every time I go grocery shopping.

I was really surprised that there really are two different sims now. I forgot to mention that I'm in Austin, one of two cities testing out Isis and there is a major push in the AT&T store for it.
I'll report back when I get my hands on the regular sim.
Before I start my rant, why don't you just cut the old one to size?
Funny how AT&T is shooting itself in the foot, again and again.
For dumbphones:
The dumbphone crowd have little loyalty towards att (mostly CDMA or MVNO). other than that, they usually have cheaper plans.
For iphones (neither smart nor dumb) :
The iphone crowd are leaving left and right (mostly to MVNOs), and now with the unlocking, and the new compatible towers, people are heading to T-Mobile.
For android phones:
Their slow updates and bloatware, causes people to dislike buying from them. The fact that they just quit updating, causes people to leave completely.
Now they are messing with the nexus? A phone that just needs service, not support, from them?
Good thing I threw my number at Google. I change providers any time I feel like it. Right now I'm thinking about trying net 10 <att>

I was in the area and thought I might as well get a new one. It's free and only took a few minutes. In hindsight, I should have just cut it and have a working Wallet.
what is the word on this? it is hard to find information. wallet was working fine on my gnex. i cut down the sim and slapped it in my nexus 4 and wallet doesn't work now. if at&t is disabling software on my phone that isn't harming them in any way, we should be writing letters to attorney generals and calling for arbitration.
After many months of no Wallet access, I decided to fire up the app again and this time everything is working well! I don't know when but Google must have either found a way around the ISIS sim card or fixed a bug. Hard to say at this point if AT&T was actively breaking the N4 NFC. Whatever it was, it's now working beautifully!

I've never had a problem with Google wallet on AT&T. But I do believe when the phone first came out an update to the app was needed to get it to work on any network. The update came out around the time of your first post. Here is an interesting article on Google Wallet and Verizon as Verizon does actively block it on their network.

Bought a Verizon PrePaid Moto G Today...

So let me tell you how this went down...
First, I go to a local Best Buy Mobile store to check out the Moto G for my girlfriend. They tell me they can't sell me one in the store until Jan. 9th, but if I purchase one online and choose to pickup in the store, I could get one. So I stand in the store, buy the phone on my GS4, and pick it up at the counter. Weird process, but whatever.
So I bought the phone. The lady at the register assured me that I would be able to use this on her line (which is a contract line). Go to activate it, and find out that it can't be done until the 9th. That's cool, no problem. Once I get home, I find out that the phone will only work on a prepaid line and BestBuy did not inform me of this. I go back up to the store to return it, but they won't take it back because it's opened. Oh, I forgot to mention, the lady at the damn counter was the one who opened it!
So, is there ANY way that I could get this to activate on a contract line without having it activated on a prepaid line for 6 months, or am I screwed? If not, is there a good way to bypass the activation and use it solely as a wifi "tablet" (for my girlfriend's kid)?
If I actually am screwed, anyone want this thing for $80 shipped in the continental US?
That's a lie about it being opened. I have returned prepaid phone there on several occasions. There is something either shady about your story or the person working but something isn't adding up here.

You can bypass the activation easily, simply hit next 1 time, pull down the notification center, click on the multitasking button and swipe away the activation screen quickly, and boom! You have a $100 iPod touch alternative (which is why I bought it) I recorded a short video to show you, wiped it real quick because I just got it yesterday anyways

Cool story, brah. Nonetheless, I guess you missed the fact that he bought this for his girlfriend who is under contract with Verizon which is a CDMA carrier. You can't buy a GSM phone and use it on a CDMA carrier. The only time one would need a SIM card slot is if you're using it on Sprint or Verizon's LTE network and since this phone doesn't have LTE....
Thanks for the responses guys! I'll try the unlock method later tonight when I have the phone in hand again (girlfriend still has it at the moment).
As for the return policy, I agree with y'all. I probably should be able to take it back, but the lady at the counter seemed like she might have been new or something. I actually tried to take it back about 4 hours later, so way within the 14 day window mentioned earlier.
On a side note, I won't be using the phone either way as I just went ahead and bought a like-new GS3 from a friend that she is going to use (wish I would have known he was selling it PRIOR to all this). If I can use it as a tablet, I'll just let her kid have it, but if not, I'll try and take it back again.
Will keep everyone posted!
keep us posted guy, I might take you up on that offer.

Correct. After being told they didn't have any at my local store I was happy to inform them that they had 8 of them in stock which was very easy to find out online, and a little arguing about whether or not they could sell it yet, as well as a call to their Verizon rep, I finally was able to procure a Moto G without activating it. Hoping to find out this will work immediately with PagePlus.
Good news everyone, I was able to bypass the activation screen and unlock the phone for "tablet" use (using the methods mentioned in this thread). After playing with the phone for a little while, I gotta say, I actually like the thing! While we won't be using this as a phone, I will probably keep it to use as a MP3 player for the house.
I played around with the features a little and the only real disappointment that I saw was the camera. Maybe I'm use to the 13MP on the GS4, but the picture quality just didn't seem very good. Better than my girlfriend's old iPhone 4, but lacking nonetheless.

Let me know how that works out. I tried and the pageplus rep said that the phone was unable to work, and it needed to be 'unlocked.' I wonder if I just got someone who didn't know what to do.
I returned my Verizon prepaid moto g today to BB. I did not have any issues. They did check to see if it had been activated. They turned the phone on and seeing the activate wizard appear turned it off. They only thing I didn't get back was the $0.70 for a 911 fee.

[Q] Google Wallet Tap to pay

Does anyone know if any LG devices are or ever going to be able to support the tap to pay function on google wallet? According to google support it is only supported on devices with a secured nfc chip, which the lg g2 has,
When I contacted LG, they pretty much dodged the question and acted like no one should ever use google wallet in the first place, then told me it is totally up to the Carrier, in this case Sprint, then they said they do not provide support for Sprint subscribers...
Then I contacted Sprint and they said it was up to google which phones would have google wallet, i then explained a little deeper and they told me it would definitely be up to the manufacturer.
I played their little game and called the manufacturer back, played the call recordings for them and he said he would submit a ticket. I asked if maybe it was going to be included in the kitkat update and he said I would have to check my phone....
Needless to say, I got no where.
So I am just curious, DOES ANYONE HAVE TAP TO PAY ABILITIES WITH AN LG PHONE?
On the AT&T and T-Mobile variants tap to pay has been removed. Sprint is a Google wallet partner so I imagine it will be available with kitkat.
Works just fine on 4.4.2 roms. Problem is that Isis doesn't work.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Thanks for the quick answers...I wish I would have known before I got this phone. I sold my s4 and got the lg g2 for $150. On my way home I needed gas but I didn't have any cash on me and knew I had some money on my google wallet account, but I could not get tap to pay to work. While waiting for someone to bring me gas money I made all those calls hoping for a good answer, to no avail. I ended up having to close out my wallet account to get my money, but that only took four days.
So when you say it works on 4.4.2, is that aosp, aokp? or which one? I was trying to find one that was closest to stock, but they're all named pac-man, etc. I wish there was one that was straight aosp, any suggestions?
I am using CM 11 right now. Paranoid Android is very nice as well. They are mostly AOSP. To stay mostly stock seems to mean no wallet, at least for now. Once an official VZW KK comes out I would think both Isis and wallet will work. Fingers crossed.

You can get wallet on there no problem even with a mostly stock Android.( Yes ATT and some others block tap to pay with it. However, look around, it works and you can get it working fairly easy. I have it running now and used it a Home Depot in Atlanta earlier today ). PA and CM11 as well as some others will work with it just fine as well. Wallet does NOT require a secure element on any phone since KK. It's now done via card emulation at the server side by google.
I use Power User Edition ROM and it works just fine on it. Based on an international rom I belive where it IS available.
ISIS works fine on the ATT phone. You just need to get a newer SIM from them if you haven't already.

I am not familiar with Isis, I have Sprint and we dont even get PC Suite to back up our phones, we have to root our phones and use a custom recovery to backup and restore, we don't have a choice. Paranoid Android is one that I was looking for, the problem is I don't think its available for the Sprint variant yet. With the galaxy S4, I was reading that the roms were interchangeable because of the GSM capabilities on Sprint variants now, but I tried installing a vzw rom to get PC Suite working to no avail, I guess I'll keep trying the Sprint thread, now that we have our own, I appreciate all the info

Isis is just like Google wallet although it s a little bit more restrictive to what types of Cards you can use. For example I think it's only American Express and Wells fargo cards that you are able to add to the program in order to pay. I'd choose Google wallet over that any time

New Variant (ME375CL) released into the wild April 2015

This is the model AT&T will be carrying starting April 10th. Seems like a watered down version of the ME572C plus LTE connectivity:
Press release
Too noob to post links... sorry!
K00X?
Well that's strange... I picked one of these up today from AT&T and the model listed on the box and back of the device is K00X.
Now I don't know what to think. When I do a search for that I only get results for Asus Fonepad 7. But the box is clearly labeled Memo Pad 7 and the device does not appear to be equipped to make calls.
Now I'm trying to remember where I saw the "ME375CL" designation. I know if you search for this on Asus' website the correct specs for the device are shown, whereas K00X doesn't return anything.
Kingo Root did not root.
Towelroot failed to make it ra1n.
RootZenFone reported "This is for ZenFone only".
Dose anyone no how to root it?

To date, no root, no lollipop or marshmallow, at least that I've found. Issue seems to be that even though it's a memo pad 7 its an ATT-specific variant that's different enough that the standard rooting tools for the Asus memo pad do not work.
On the plus side, as already mentioned since att is basically giving these away they'll be more out there so possibly some development may occur soon.
Realistically, I'm leaning toward taking mine back - sure it was only $0.99 but I've already got a nexus 7 and do I want to pay ten bucks extra a month for this ( for the additional LTE device) when I really don't need it. All things things considered it's a pretty neat little budget level tablet and if I didn't already have the N7 I'd probably be keeping it for sure... on the fence right now though...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
EDIT - I will say this, the MP7 smokes my Nexus7 in regards to battery life.
Fiddled around with some rooting tools for the Memo Pad and Fone Pad, ie mainly the temp tethered recovery solution just trying to flash the SuperSU zip... everything seems to work except the custom recovery never launches, probably due to there not really being a recovery out there for this model. I tried various memopad/fonepad versions of twrp and cwm but nothing seemed to work. .
I've got until Thursday to return it - my luck someone will figure out how to root it Friday lol. But, I don't want to be paying $180 over the next 18 months for a tablet sitting in my desk drawer either.
Well my two weeks ended today, so I took it back... no point in paying $180 over the next year and half for something I would rarely use, it at all.

Anyone know where to get a stock ROM for this thing? I've got some kind of corruption issue that doesn't seem to be resolved with a factory reset, I think, and I would like to get the built in recover to reload the OS from the MicroSD card if possible. Asus wants me to sent it back in to them but I'd rather fix it myself. Any pointers to a copy of a recent stock ROM?
Thanks!
I got the same tablet (ASUS K00X) from AT&T and tried all the rooting solutions for the Memo Pad 7 i could find, but nothing worked. I guess we'll have to wait a little longer before getting this tablet rooted.
I don't even care about rooting it. Stock ROM is all I need..

Anyway to network unlock this ME375CL from ATT? Would like to use it while travelling....
I too need to network unlock mine. Might just have to pay for an unlock code, sadly it's hard to tell what sites are legit or not for that service.

I actually submitted an online unlock request to AT&T (after their system was messed up for 3 days) and they sent me the code for free within 2 business days. I was really surprised, I thought it wouldn't be eligible for unlock since it was an un-used Go-Phone device. I guess they were feeling generous. Works great on T-mobile, although the process of getting the free 200mb of monthly tablet data was a chore. Have yet to use it, I don't really need it for anything (tab automatically connects to my phone hotspot), just figured it was cool to have for free.
any how to on installing Xposed on a KK OS of this tablet?

Sucks, I did the same today and I got this: "We're unable to process your request because the device is currently active on another AT&T customer's account."
But in fact, this was a prepaid tablet and not tied to any accounts...
Anyhow, I don't have an AT&T SIM and it won't even let me update. Is there a ROM that I can sideload to upgrade to Lollipop? I'm still on the initial KK build, has quite a bit of crashes.

Samung Pay Beta (USA)

I registered for the Samsung Pay Beta program yesterday. Today I received a mail that I've been accepted in the Beta Program. I happily started the Samsung Pay app and it showed a new screen for installation. I installed it. The interface looks good. You can just scan the card and it captures the card number and expiry date automatically. Rest of the information has to be filled manually. However, It didn't accept my CHASE or AMEX card. It gives following error:-
Registration failed
Unable to register your card. Try another
card or contact the card issuer. (645101)
Anybody else having similar issue ?
I am having the same problem with both my cards
I received the beta invite as well. The participation details list the qualifying cards. http://www.samsung.com/us/samsung-p...ID=0125494973&MKM_MID=&CID=eml-mb-cph-815-975

Looks like very limited participants are available for Beta Program. I received a mail from AmEx that my card couldn't be added and when I called their customer support, they said the particular Corporate ard I'm trying to add isn't supported to the Beta program, however, it would be available 28th Sept onward (official launch). The Chase however have no idea about Samsung Pay. They said they are aware of only Apple Pay.
I have it as well. It will only work with US Bank or Bank of America (Visa Debit or Visa Credit card). I also tried my other cards just to see if they would work, nothing else is accepted yet. I did call customer service for all of my cards (Amex, Chase, Barclay's, American Airlines CC and Capital One) and they said they will work with Samsung Pay near the end of September.
Looks like Samsung is just minimizing the testing to keep control of things. Worked perfect at Panera with my B of A Debit Visa card. Of course the girl thought it was an IPhone. Knew that was coming hahahaha

The inevitable... :silly:
I didn't realize this when I used it the other day but Samsung Pay is actually integrated into your lock screen and every screen screen even after you unlock your phone. I previously accessed Samsung Pay through the app as that is how I was use to accessing Google Wallet.
So here is how you quick access it:
Once you turn the screen on, you will see a small tab floating above the home key that says Samsung Pay.
Swipe it up (without unlocking the screen). Choose a card you want to use, then once you want to use it, you use finger print to unlock it. The phone will start vibrating and have some animation on the screen to indicate you can now pay.
If you have your phone unlocked and you were previously using it, you simply swipe up and bam there it is.
I guess in the excitement yesterday I didn't see this. The Samsung pay tab is so small, if you are on auto pilot using your phone you will miss it.

Applepay doesn't support MST and there isn't a way for the phone to know there is a MST terminal in front of it. NFC is 2 way which is why it works for that. They could possibly make it work automatically with NFC capable terminals but it would likely just confuse some people about when it's automatic and when it's manual. I don't find it hard to use at all in its current form.

Well, the Beta programs (Samsung or no Samsung) intend to execute a trial run before the actual services are officially released. Would make no sense if nobody enrolls in it, don't you agree ?

Samsung Pay is a payment system which uses NFC and MST. Once you've added your card, you can go to any retailer and pay using your phone instead of your card. If the retailer has an NFC system, you can simply tap your phone onto the NFC section of the payment system and authenticate using PIN/Fingerprint and the payment should be made. Otherwise, if the retailer has traditional magnetic card swiping payment system, just start the Samsung Pay and bring it near the edge of the Payment System where card is required to be swiped. Use PIN/Fingerprint for authentication and the payment should be made easily.
Try googling about Samsung Pay, you'll know more in details.

I'd say it's significantly safer than carrying a physical card around since anyone could rob you and use it where as samsung pay couldn't be used unless they chopped off your finger when they stole the phone and at that point the cashier would be suspicious I'm thinking.

We're talking about Samsung here.. You could trust them with your contacts, messages, social media credentials, banking apps and you can't trust them with Samsung Pay. Really ? May be you don't use banking apps (I thought you may bring that up again), and that's okay. It's your hard earned money, I'm sure you know how to handle it better than anybody else does. You might wanna look into Samsung Knox bdw (just for information purpose), its even NSA approved.

And even if someone manages to do all that, one can simply call the bank to nullify the transaction. A chopped finger would suffice as a proof! :cyclops:

I think the toeknization is the real value here. When you go to target and buy something they don't actually have access to your card info, they have a token because the card info stays at the payment processor and is activated by the token. At least that's how I understand it.
Hell, in theory, if target gets hacked and your token is compromised they can do a mass update and scramble the tokens only for cards used at target in the last X number of days.
IMHO this is exponentially safer than using your card at a store. Skimmers are probably less effective too, all kinds of joy with this innovation.
They should of had all major banks on board. So people dont sit around and think about why it may not be safe. Big mistake not not have a feature ready by launch. I have capital one and Wellsfargo and i am waiting not even knowing if they will ever sign on.

As long as they are VISA or Master Card, they should work. Atleast that's what I understand. Also, there are only limited banks supported for Beta, you should try Capital One and Wellsfargo after 28th.

American express, Visa, MasterCard and some large banks are on board - seems to be a pretty good backing and show of support to me. Anyone that thinks it isn't safe clearly has no idea of how the system works because it's actually significantly safer than a standard card.
