brand new OP2 stuck in bootloop. Help please!! - OnePlus 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so my whole day was wasted sitting at the house waiting to sign for this thing. get it at 4pm. go get myself a nano sim from ATT. opened the packaging in the att store. put in the sim and turned on the phone. before i can get through the ****in setup wizard the bitc** reboots. im like whatever. its the initial version of OOS. ill update that bitc** and ill be good.
phone boots up and goes right into another reboot. did this for *fuc*in EVERR!!! somehow managed to get in the os finally and i start to unlock dev options and **** so i can unlock it.
fastboot oem unlock goes fine. reboots and again im in boot loop city. after tinkering with this damn thing forever i finally found a way to get twrp on that ***** and im downloading the latest zip and im gonna sideload it into the storage so i can flash through recovery. hopefully that fixes this nonsense. will update if i get anywhere. pretty lame considering my opo was a ****in boss.
update: I flashed the latest OTA zip through TWRP and it still bootloops before i can get through the setup wizard. Any ideas? seems hardware related since reflashing didnt work. gonna try another rom and see what happens.
update 2: cant install exodus. installation hangs at "patching system unconditionally"
Update 3: flashed oxegen os back and its back to bootlooping, Any ideas?
update 4. got CM12 to flash through twrp and it wouldnt get through the bootanimation before rebooting. so its bootlooping on any rom which makes me think hardware. submitted a ticked. will update when i have something.

Sounds like hardware if you've got this going on for several ROMs. Let me know how the CS works out for you, if they mess up on your case, send me a PM please. I'm a OnePlus mod and can have the staff take a look at CS tickets personally.

i actually got a hold of CS over the phone this morning lmao. turns out the ticket for whatever reason didnt reach OnePlus on their side. no clue. but anyways. got someone on the phone doing something. lol. we shall see whats up
Update:he says we're going to remote session in an hr and I'll receive an email with instructions. We shall see.
Update: Was supposed to receive an email for my remote session by 11am via email but still haven't gotten it. Lame
update: got CS on the line again and they said they requested it but never said they would actually send one. which is BS cuz the guy (francis) told me that he set the appointment for 11am. either way, after *****ing a bunch and requesting a manager someone magically happened to cancel their appointment with a lvl 2 tech so i got my session in. she redid the whole phone, no dice. still bootloops. said she had to escalate further and theres nothing really to do other than wait so it would be AWESOME if @Waterdroid could make something happen. So gay to receive a DOA phone man. was so hyped for this lol. hopefully itll turn out good soon

Can you apply for an RMA request? The fault is obviously at OnePlus' side.

I thought that's what the next step would be. I figured thats what shes escalating for. Should I submit an rma or wait for the response?

I'd say wait for the response.

I'll do that. Hopefully they get on it quick. I'll keep updating if anything happens

They remote sessioned my phone and I even got an email saying that it qualifies for a replacement. Ticket has been sitting with their "r&r" (replacement and returns) dept. Been sitting there, cs says I can't do anything but wait for them. They Dont use phones in that department apparently lol. Any way u could help push this along @Waterdroid? At this rate I wont have the phone until the end of next month man.

Well I can't really go ahead and ask them to speed up as they're working as fast as possible on every case already.. Could you ask what waiting time they estimate and once that time is exceeded without results, report back to me? I can then at least label your ticket as ignored, delayed or whatever.

They said to expect something within 24hrs. It's been a little over 24hrs I gave them my imei. They asked for it in that email they said my device qualifies for a replacement in.I guess I can wait a little more lol. Kinda getting impatient and annoyed since there's nothing I can do and the phone came to me doa so it's killing the hype for me lmao.

finally after dealing with the horrible CS, i finally got an invoice saying theyre sending me a replacement. except they submitted in the ticket to send me an OPO not an OPT. the degree of their stupidity is getting to be ridiculous. Now i get to call these a-holes again cuz i wanna be sure they catch this **** before they send an OPO and an OPT tempered glass. Jesus!!! lol

I hope i get mine replaced to..
Bootloops everywhere..

Have you tried the solution in this thread?

Some what disatisfied with my HD2

Dont know where to start.
1. crashes all the time,
2. crashes when the battery is low, have to do a soft reset to regain functionality
3. the battery life is a joke. charge in the morning and by around 4pm i got to be cautious on what calls i take as it will die on me.
4. freaks out randomly when using opera. could it be my fingers are too big? lol
5. sms some times dont send. found the fix on the htc site, still not working.
feel like i made a terrible mistake getting this phone, why should i have to do hacks/fixes my self when i have never needed to on any othr fone before?
its trully a different fone culture using this, as i type this on the hd2 i have had to retype this at least 7 times. lol....
anyway the basic functions should be flawless, but they are not which worries considerably.
Seems like you got a bad piece which is unfortunate. I hope you can get it changed, because this is not how it's supposed to be.
I think I got a pretty decent piece. I never experienced any battery issues and neither the sms bug which I know many experienced on this forum. Also mine never crashes so I can just assume that you got a faulty piece.
As for the typing I can agree with you. However, if you tweak by decreasing the sensitivity (which actually I never experienced as a decrease in sensitivity, only as an enhancement while typing), that problem will be gone as well. It's not a difficult tweak, it can be easily done by installing BsB tweaks which can be found here in the forums.
Although I agree with you that one should not be forced to tweak this phone oneself, but I guess we'll have to live with it
thanks for your reply,
i will try the tweak, and see how it goes, i emailed vodafone to let them know. i forgot to let them know how slow the phone gets some times.
oh well, this is what i get ditching nokia!
try to see if you can exchange the phone. must be able to if you can show the phone crashes to vodafone and if you have the device not for too long they should exchange it for you as far as I know,..
Vodafone! are saying they have none in stock and cant replace it, would it be worth just flashing it with a different ROM since there is nothing they can do...

Have you tried a hard reset?
Also MaskedMagi just posted that Vodafone DO have some replacement phones left: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5285586&postcount=184
Perhaps it would be worth calling them back.

Yep, just to clarify that was about 3 hours ago so fingers crossed I'll get the phone tomorrow, though with the incoming snow probably not
I'm hoping that it is actually a HD2 and not a HTC Touch HD 2 or something as people have been confused over the phone before, I'll definately check before giving back my old one!
Needless to say I hope the newer one is not in fact worse than the old one! Give them a ring if you want, but remember you have to be within the 28 day period to get a return/replacement.
The direct line for returns they gave me was: 08448540430
Called them back but it was to late, got to call back during normal working hours... they are playing the arse because i called after the 28 days, when in fact I originally called on the 30th December, 27 days from when i received the phone on the 3rd.
I am very much annoyed, if they werent on holiday, there systems were down, then if not that they put me through to 3 different depts to then have to email v-store to them then telling me I am actually meant to call another dept.
These guys cannot be serious!!!
If you make enough of a fuss and tell them your original call was within the 28 day period and that they have delayed you they might listen, just have to see how it goes. Good luck with them tomorrow, keep us posted on how it goes

Originally they did, and the lady was meant to call back. But when she did the phone crashed. So I called back on the land line and got someone else instead.
Then had to go through the whole process again!! Will call back tommorrow though!
Did a hard reset we will see how that goes in the mean time.

Good experience with sending phone to Sammy

Well, I had completely screwed up my phone after flashing some roms.
For the life of me I couldn't get it into recovery or download mode. My phone was hardware locked. But I never bothered to add the hardware fix to the phone because adb worked just fine and I didn't think it was going to be a problem. Yeah, big mistake I know and if all you want to say is "I told you so" you can screw off.
Anyway, was completely stuck. I bought the phone out right on ebay, I am running it on att so there was no where really to turn but sammy to get the phone fixed. I called them up told them about some of the problems I was having and eventually got them to take the phone in for repair. It took about a week total but I got my phone fixed and I am now up and running foryo but this time I added the hardware unlock first thing out of the gate.
Hmmm, I say good on ya for resolving the prob w/o trying for a replacement phone. Just a guess, but it prolly takes Sam 15 mins to zero out your vibe and place it back on the shipping cart?
Thumbs up to Samsung a well. Free support for an ebay purchase is cool to begin with..
Yeah, that is what I thought too.
And I agree about the turn around. The day they got it from UPS they fixed it and sent it back out to me the same day.
I am very happy with the results, and the new froyo rom from 11\7\10 is really nice the phone really runs smooth.

Galaxy S II dead after a month of use

So, pretty much exactly a month after I received my SGSII, the phone is now dead.
As I was commuting to work this morning and listening to music, the phone restarted completely at random. I chalked it up to just being a part of the Android experience until, 15 minutes later, the phone boots up again in my pocket. After that the reboots came in thick and fast until the phone was in a constant cycle of rebooting, with no time in between to even type in my PIN before the phone shut down again.
I haven't dropped the phone and it hasn't gotten wet (unless standing in the rain under an umbrella with the phone in my pocket is enough to wreck it), so there shouldn't be any damage that I could've caused.
At this point I removed the battery and just let it sit for 5 minutes before trying to boot it up again. It started up fine but restarted again after around 10 minutes. I shut the phone down, removed the SD card and tried again, but the phone still shut down after a while. After that I yanked out the SIM but that didn't fix anything either. The battery had around 90% charge at this point, the battery contacts looked just fine and it wasn't overheating or anything so I was a little mystified as to what the hell had gone wrong overnight.
I called up Samsung's Customer Support and they told me to factory reset the phone through the OS. The reset goes through it's paces until it comes time to reboot and then.. nothing. The phone is now completely bricked and will not respond to any key presses nor will it react in any way when I plug in the charger. After I told Samsung's customer rep about this, the first thing the guy asked was if I had rooted the phone or installed a custom ROM, to which I answered - truthfully - that I hadn't. By the sound of his voice he didn't seem to believe me and referred me fairly reluctantly to their RMA service to get it repaired while underlining the fact that they wouldn't do **** for me if there were any proof of tampering with the ROM. After that he said goodbye in a fairly annoyed voice and hung up before I got a word in.
Has anyone had their SGSII just spontaneously combust on them? Right now I'm feeling extremely pissed that I have to go through the RMA process with basically a brand new phone. The repair time is floating around at 2 weeks to a month due to holidays and whatever during which time I'll have to make due with a ****ty Nokia backup phone. The electronics repairs firm Samsung uses here in Finland is notorious for their crappy level of service and they've scratched the hell out of my two previous HTC phones that were serviced by them.
Bad luck ...
A friend of mine had more or less the same problem with the HTC HD2. Random reboots at first, then not bootable/flashable and a couple of tries later it was completely dead. They had to exchange the mainboard. Seems like some chip got damaged somehow ...
try removing the battery a few more times........good luck

I'm somewhat surprised by this, given the fact that Sammy themselves have given a device to the team at CM7 Towers. I always thought they had a fairly relaxed attitude to custom ROMs, etc.

Don't put up with any crap they give you. Considering that moron is meant to represent customer support, he should be more supportive of a customer who bought a £500 phone from the very company that pays him, and the last thing he should be doing is making you feel guilty when you're obviously innocent. The guy sounds like a complete prick.

Two different bits of Samsung DEVELOPMENT and WARRANTY .
Development want feedback etc from the community .
Warranty want no claims else why put a custom rom counter on and send a letter out saying custom rom = no warranty .

i can see where the supporter is coming. just imagine how often people call there because they bricked their phones while flashing/rooting ... its understandable that he reacts like this
Why would the supporter care what's been done to the phone? Him having to ask questions for warranty purposes is obvious, but if a caller lies and the warranty is later rejected surely it wouldn't matter to him personally.

Hello,
Put off the battery, sd card and sim card.
Then wait 10minutes.
When the 10m pass, put the battery in the phone and hold immediately power + home + vol down.
I think your will go in download mode.

You should always say something like "I have no idea what that is or means. All I know is my phone stopped working."
I would do as they said. Get into download mode, then flash the official ROM+Kernel for your device and see what happens. If you still have the same problem, then it is a hardware problem and you need to go through the repair process.
Random reboot, it's a well known issue caused by an app. Frequently the music player, or No lock, or something else...
A youth sin of the SGS 2.
Service is shouldnt pay attention to software changes that could been made, they simply write new software through box and thats it, thats why its interssting why personel asked about rooted or not:O

yes its understandable to ask if its been rooted. but bad customer service is still bad customer service. even if the op was lying, that rep doesnt get paid to have his being annoyed get in the way of providing the customer a friendly experience.

[Q] Bricked Phone? Can't even turn on to recovery and not charging...

holy cow!! I think I just bricked my phone... I hope someone can help me.
Here's the situation. I was on the latest MIUI 1.6.17 demonSPEED v.1.2. Everything was awesome! Then today I went to my dentist and there was a sign that said that they are not in today and to call a number. I was about to call, then everything got stuck. I needed to call them, so I just did a flash in front of the dentist's office with the ROM I had on my SD card.
re-flashed v1.2 with no problem and I was about to select "reboot my phone", then I was like, oh i'll re-flash Swype as well... the swype zip got stuck for like 5 minutes during the flash (and I still needed to call the dentist). So I was like, ok I'll just pull off the battery and restart the flashing procedures...
That's when I put the battery back and the phone won't even boot up now. I'm now home (didn't even get to call my dentist yet after all that), and plugged in the charger and it won't even charge now (orange LED not turning on)... Can't even boot it in recovery. Phone is unresponsive to any buttons...
Does anyone know of any other way to even turn the phone on?
Geez, that was the Noobiest mistake ever!! All that because I had to make a call... WOw, I'm speechless thinking of my stupidity! I hope someone can help...
Thanks in advance guys!
Quite honestly dude i dont think you have much to hope for except to call tmo and tell them its broken. If its truly bricked even they cant confirm it since they cant turn it on. Only thing i think you could try is pluging it into your pc and trying to see if the pc recognizes it and lets you run adb commands or something similar. Hope this helps.

yup, the thing is that I'm not a T-Mobile customer anymore. I wonder how I'm even gonna get in contact with them to get a replacement. yeah man, that was the analysis of the customer service rep that was helping me. He thinks that the battery somehow is knocked out... That's why he's shipped out a battery. Just waiting for that to confirm that it's the battery or something else! If that doesn't solve it, I'll have to send it back to HTC for repairs. Probably won't be able to get a replacement with T-Mobile since I cancelled my account with them like 4 months ago already... but thanks for the input!

[Q] Can Google tell if device rooted remotely?

Hi all,
I just got off the phone with Google support... I phoned them because my nexus definitely has heat issues when I fire up need for speed it gets like a furnace...
When I was on the phone though they told me the warranty was void as it had been rooted (<3 TB)... how can they tell?
Does this mean my nexus is permanently ear marked?
Thanks.
Did they ask you to read out any info from the about screen?

Yeah brand new. Straight from Gplay.
That's exactly what I did... still wouldn't process repair or anything sent me Samsung contact details for out of warranty repair. :S
Keep calling mate say they are wrong, keep at it mate just say i want to talk to a manager bla bla, keep pushing them
That's really strange. If they don't budge then contact Samsung directly using the contact info in the warranty that shipped with the phone for a warranty repair or replacement.

I'm new to all this stuff so PLEASE do not do anything based on my flimsy idea, ... just thought it might help send you down a different thought/investigative path.
I installed a toolkit that had a re-lock and un-root option thinking that if I ever got into a similar warranty situation, I would just kinda go "backwards in time" and after using TWRP to backup my tablet, do a full factory wipe, and re-lock then un-root (or whichever comes first) THEN report the problem.:fingers-crossed:
You may have let the cat out of the bag by calling first though
It seems you need to find out how they know, erase the evidence,re-lock un-root and then as juDGEY2k10 says- DENY DENY DENY- you know, like "Dexter" does:laugh: .
But wada I know. Keep us posted on your progress.
Im no expert but I don't see how they can tell unless when you get new apps or update apps from the play store they pulling information from the units. Hopefully they arent doing that.
G●Note~2 {Jedi X5}
I have never seen root voiding warranty of a nexus device before, even though it says so.
I've noticed their bug report tool, built in, attempts to call su, so perhaps they do check now.
I'd prefer to see a root method where the app hides the binary under a unique name so they can't call it to find out.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
If Google is doing that, hopefully they won't share that info with manufacturers.

Let's assume what the OP is saying is true, which it probably isn't. Many states provide additional consumer protection, even if there was a clause in the warranty which reduces your rights. (There is no clause which explicitly removes your right to root in the Nexus 10 warranty, but IANAL.)
The manufacturer is still responsible for physical defects.
However, I cannot imagine that someone would call Google and receive that answer and not be angry, mentioning the rep by name he talked to, and asking to make sure that the rep's claim was accurate.
Perhaps the OP is not telling the whole story, (e.g. he called and proclaimed that he was an advanced user, gave the rep attitude, rep came back with "oh yeah well you're rooted, we don't have to support you". Anyone who has done customer service or help desk knows what I'm talking about.) or just plain making the whole thing up, since I have never heard of any company refusing to service a rooted device unless there was a problem user with multiple returns.
I do acknowledge that the OP may not be full of crap, but if that is the case, I strongly advise OP not to take what a single rep said as gospel and keep calling back and asking for a supervisor until it's resolved.
However, there's another issue:
If the OP rooted, installed a custom kernel, found his device ran too hot, then called Google complaining without first reverting to stock and testing to make sure it wasn't the custom kernel causing the overheating, the OP's brain is the thing needing a warranty exchange.
I contacted Google about my nexus 10 dropping wifi randomly a few days ago.
The guy who I spoke to was quite nice and told me to do a factory reset. I told him I had already done that and I had also tried CM10, AOKP as some people have said that fixes any kernel/rom issues and I said the problem remains on everything I do so it had to be the device.
I was offered a refund outside the 15 day period and I chose a replacement which was shipped today.
If I spoke to someone who said that they couldn't help me because I'm rooted, I'd hang up and try again. Although if you are having problems a full restore to stock will be helpful if you ring up and speak to them.

I totally understand where you're coming from.
I used to work behind the genius bar so I know what you're getting at.
The full story is that I phoned up first and arranged a swap but realised that they would send to university address and not home phoned back again to change address and that's when the guy tried some extra steps with me and then asked for serial etc, you know the rest.
I get his word isn't stone but was shocked that they could definitely tell, wanted to share exp.
In all honesty the reason I didn't act rationally was that he ultimately called me out and I was major surprised since I'd never heard of anything similar before aka remote sense of root.
This is literally the third android device I've had and I'm only getting into the scene now, there's no custom kernel on my nexus. I run it stock.
FYI this was UK. Oh and CS didn't deny service they just referred me to someone else. Will try again post hols.
Hope explains!

I'd prefer to see a root method where the app hides the binary under a unique name so they can't call it to find out.
